This might not be needed...but we can give it a whirl...

What if we each contribute one recipe for a healthy but tasty meal in two weeks? So, this first time would be for meals beginning Monday the 14th. This would give us time to post the recipes and shop for them. If at least 7 people participate that would be a week's worth! If there's more then we have choices!!!

I like to cook and I like trying new dishes. But I don't like researching them.

If no one is interested that's fine and dandy. I'll just stick with allrecipes....

If you want to give it a go:

List the nutritional value, if possible (MFP has a neat option where you can enter the ingredients and voila! it will provide the nutrients.)

Don't worry about allergies. If someone's allergic to something in the menu then oh well. They move to another one.

Links to a recipe are welcome.

Please only share one meal each week. If your meal has more than one recipe, great!

    I'll share mine tomorrow :)

I really love this idea, but I am such a basic cook. I don’t use recipes for meals. I am so fussy I don’t like a lot. It sounds like fun though.

I really didn't want to go to the gym this morning, it was a struggle and a half!! But honestly the accountability of knowing I put it on here helped motivate me.

    January 5th:
    -Get to the gym
    -Walk 30 mins
    -Stay in the green

That accountability has helped me do something more times than I can count. I just don’t want to have to come back the next day and say I didn’t do something.

    JFT - Friday January 4th
    2L of water - 🙂 2.25
Calories in Green - 😈 in red by 280 I made burgers and fries for supper because I know it is something the Grands will eat without argument. The pack of burgers had 6 in it so I ate 2 so I didn’t end up having to freeze just one. How insane is that logic?
Walk 1 Mile - 🙂🙂🙂 4 Miles! I was scared I wouldn’t get my walk in with the Grands here so did the 1 mike while Michaela was in the tub. Then did the 3 mile after I got them in bed.
    5 Fruits and Veggies - 1/5
    Only 1 evening Snack - 🙂
5 something at bathroom break - 😈. Michaela is potty training and every time I go to th bathroom she insists on joining me. Hopefully this stage ends soon!
Write in Journal - 😕 too tired
Do not disappoint myself, be conscious of my choices. - 😕

    JFT - Saturday January 5th
    2L of water
    Calories in Green
    Walk 1 Mile
    5 Fruits and Veggies
    Only 1 evening Snack
    5 something at bathroom break
    Write in Journal
Do not disappoint myself, be conscious of my choices.

Rodger was trying to let me sleep in this morning. He turned his back for a minute and Michaela snuck away to wake me up. She came in the room and whispered “Grammie, Grampie can’t find Anna”. I got up, the problem was she wanted to watch Frozen and he couldn’t find it. I need to update my Netflix payment. I was able to find it on You Tube in a 50 video series. I had forgotten how much I enjoy that movie.

I will be taking them home today and then going to Costco to get some water.

I received some good news yesterday regarding my EI. The payroll guy fixed the ROE and I called Service Canada again. I should be receiving money by the end of next week!

I need to do some laundry today and I want to play with my Cricut some more. Other than that it will be a quiet day.

I love this idea!! After so many years of cooking, I get so bored with what I cook... seems like the same thing all the time! I will try and remember to post a recipe soon. Great idea! I also cook most of our meals, so love to have new ideas.

My Dad passed from lung cancer. He was diagnosed on June 11 2012 and passed December 9th if that year. I was very fortunate to be able to get home twice in those very short months. In August husband, 2 adult daughters, 1 son in law and 11 month old Grandson went to have a vow renewal for my daughter who had been married the year before here in Alberta where none of the family could attend.

    I

My dad also passed away from lung cancer ... he was just 73. He went in for cataract surgery on Dec 12, and when doing the chest xray, spotted something on his lungs. He had surgery right away, but he developed pneumonia from the surgery. He was gone in just 2 weeks. My father passed away on Christmas eve ... so this is part of the reasons the holidays are especially hard for me. (also had a brother that committed suicide on thanksgiving day), another brother passed away from pancreatic cancer Jan 3... another brother from leukemia Feb 9... a sister passed away Sept 21 ... and my mother passed away the day before my birthday ... so just too many dates with painful memories. It has been hard for me learning to live with all the losses, as I know it is for you to.

That is a beautiful picture of your father ... he looks like a very kind, gentle man. I hope the memories are what you will always remember the most .... that is what keeps me going. The painful parts want to take over, but I thank God everyday for all the memories. This is why each and everyday is so so important. We just never know what will be ahead for us. We are never ready/prepared to lose the ones we hold so dearly.

I am a huge fan of faking it. I tell myself the universe (including my scale!) does not care about whether I'm excited about Doing The Things; what ultimately matters is whether or not I did them!

You never know who you might inspire even if you're not "good at it." Sometimes people who are getting their groove on even if they're not doing the same thing everyone else is are the ones I admire the most!

I try to remember that as long as I'm moving enough to get my heart rate up, and I'm not running into anyone else, I'm doing just fine!

Everytime I read your posts I have to laugh .... I remember so well those days!! Everyone talking, constant noise ... a lively household! When our 2 kids were little I used to also babysit 4 others .... so there was a time when I had 4 kids, all under the age of 6!! I must have been nuts! Oh wait ... it was because we needed the money! .

But you know, before you know it they will be grown up, and you will miss all that noise! Housework, all those other things can wait... but little ones just keep growing! So just have fun .. go with the flow .... and shut yourself in the bathroom if you have to for quiet (If you can even do that!!) .

And keep telling us these stories ... for us empty nesters, its fun to read! I wish I lived closer ... love to come over and give you a break and watch those sweet little ones!

Recipe: Chicken and Mango Salsa with Side suggestions
    Links included
Chicken with Mango Salsa (can also use tilapia)
    4oz of chicken per person
Rub with Cajun seasoning. I've included a recipe in case you don't have it--uses basic ingredients
    Saute
    Top with mango salsa

Sides Serve with Rice and black beans seasoned with salt, pepper, cumin, and garlic (or a bit of the Cajun seasoning)
If a green is needed, I would choose broccoli.

Mango Salsa You can change this to suit you. Some add ins: diced avacado, peaches, red onion. Remove seeds from the jalapeno if you want to make it less hot (or omit it altogether)

    Cajun Seasoning

Not sure how to saute a chicken breast? Here's a link. Timing will depend on thickness of the chicken. If you are using a thinly sliced breast then you might start out on 3 minutes per side. Omit the salt and pepper and use the cajun rub, if desired. The important step is to pat the chicken dry and then add the seasoning (I usually do this in a zip loc bag)
    Sauteed Chicken

All recipe links include nutrition information

    Happy Eating!

Recap F 1/4 ~ Rest day. Today at lunch will be first time I have opportunity to see hubby (awake) since we both returned to work on Wed. I'm sure we'll be discussing his new employer & changes being made ~ not going to be a fun talk. = Hubby and I each shared how we dealt w/ situation through prayer, and then he updated me ~ employer seems very open to communication & flexible on benefits. That is a huge relief.
    1) Move hourly / stairs breaks at work / 5 somethings = Fitbit 10,126 steps, 250+ steps 13/14 & 47 floors
    2) Meals & snacks prelogged but not sure if I'll stick w/ plans (leftovers) / net calories zero / 14c water = Ack! Had another snack attack of peanut M&Ms in the evening ~ tbh, I was quite active & supper just didn't seem to be enough. Logged & moving forward. Net calories -672 :s , sodium -1,214 (scalloped potatoes & ham higher than I realized), sugar -78 :s , fiber ok, protein good (yay) & 14c water (yay)
    3) Clear remaining emails during vacation in work inbox = Barely :D
    4) Evening: do banking  / read sales ads :| partly then Kitty climbed into my lap to snuggle / vacuum tree needles & put furniture back no need ~ hubby had done when I got home for lunch <3 / put presents away  took labels off all items, and put everything away, including all gift bags/boxes & packing materials, to be reused ~ multiple trips upstairs & basement / other to-do's? packed up some decorations
    5) Unplug 10:00 (no alarm Sat.) / FLOSS  / retainers  / bed & tv off 11:00 :/ just before midnight

JFT Sat. 1/5 ~ Lazy day at home with hubby ~ be patient w/ him as he doesn't want to "do anything" :p
    1) With melting snow on roads, not sure if there's ice under water/snow, so to be safe I walked treadmill in basement = 3 mi 49:36 + cool down + stretched
    2) Move hourly / 5 somethings
    3) Drink 12c water
    4) Making new recipe for supper ~ lentils & kielbasa / net calories zero
    5) Unplug 9:00 / floss / retainers / set/verify alarm, bed & tv off 10:30 (Bible class & church)

Weekly Weigh-In = When I'm active I eat back calories. My weaknesses: I love food... my sweet tooth, especially chocolate... portion control... FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). Saturday a.m. weigh-in is my MFP logging day, and I peek occasionally other days. My digital scale only shows half pound increments & I'm too cheap to buy a fancier scale. No goal dates set ~ this is not a diet but my lifestyle.

    Age 61, 5'4.5"
    GW #1: 150 in a livable way = It's. Not. A. Diet.
    GW #2: 145 normal BMI
    UG maintain: 145 - 150 [Need to be realistic! Revised from 140 - 145]

11/5/15 = 195.0 joined MFP with no real plan except It's. Not. A. Diet.
1/10/17 = 185.5 clearly not a regular on MFP / joined JFT, best group ever!
5/31/17 = 180.5 two end of month celebrations / committed to posting weekly weigh-in
    06/03 = 177.5
    06/10 = 179.5 pre-10K spaghetti supper night before
06/17 = 179.5 numerous meals away from home, several occasions w/ alcohol, happy no gain
06/24 = 178.0 fluctuated during week, but ended ok
07/01 = 176.0 Yay!!! Achieved June goal to stay <180
    07/08 = 177.5 oops

08/12 = 173.5 scale flirted with even lower numbers on daily weigh-ins
08/19 = 173.5 had couple of high calorie days
    08/26 = 172.0 kind of a surprise
09/02/17 = 170.0 Woohoo! Officially overweight, not obese
    09/09 = 171.5 backsliding, ack!
09/16 = 169.5 yay, the middle number is a six!
09/23 = 168.5 have lots challenges in upcoming week
09/30 = 167.0 met Sept goal to stay under 170
    10/07 = 166.0

    02/17/18 = 153.0 thrilled with annual physical on 2/15/18: BP 110/68, pulse 64 and BMI 26.14 :star:
02/24 = 154.0 little out of control last week, but at goal for the month
    03/03 = 155.5 oops / still lower than before I was sick
    03/10 = 153.5 back on track
    03/17 = 152.5
03/24 = 153.0 evening snacks & two days straight of 8 hr seminars (+ lots of sitting)

    @Bex953172 Thank you!
Oh, and I LOVE the pictures of your little one sitting on top of the dog. LOL. Cutest picture evuh!!!

@Snowflake1968 Great job doing 1 mile & then 3 mile walk!!! Leslie Sansone?

I am having a lot of difficulty keeping up with everyone. So, sorry if I don't respond to y'all

I do want to tell you all that so far you have me terribly motivated!

    Yesterday:
*Red cup challenge- but 4 cups will be acceptable for me. That is how poor I am at drinking water. Just 4 cups daily is HUGE for me. :)
    *Stay in the Green :)
*Stay focused!!! - (no matter what, no excuses... I can make them for every meal and every bite, but not going to pass muster this year). :)

JFT Sat., 1/5/19 A lot of what I post will be the same tame, every day...
    Weigh:
Back exercises including crunches & planks
    Push-ups
    Triceps dips
Red cup challenge- but 4 cups will be acceptable for me. That is how poor I am at drinking water. Just 4 cups daily is HUGE for me.
    Stay in the Green
Stay focused!!! - (no matter what, no excuses... I can make them for every meal and every bite, but not going to pass muster this year).
Get parent's caregiver's checks ready to mail
    Go to post office

    Extras, maybe?:
    Laundry...
    Dishes ...
    Declutter/clean a little...
    Do some meal planning...
    Find fitness classes to attend
    Make a schedule

I might not get all this done... but had to get it down, at least, in a list.

Let's all make it a great day!!

Haha thank you, her name is Casey, you'll see lots of pics of her, she's my youngest and I was pregnant with her from 2017 to Feb 2018. so she's nearly 1! but the ladies from the 2017/18 thread helped me through my pregnancy and have all become honorary aunts lol!

Thanks Bex. He has a rapid dementia. Two years ago he was presenting round the country and a world authority on arts and crafts furniture with museums calling from round the world for his opinion and that was only something he took up in retirement. Now he’s bed bound, can’t speak any intelligible words and needs a full time carer as he can do nothing himself. It’s a heart breaking disease. No survivors and no treatment. He’s happy in himself and it’s a privilege I get to have him live with me but it’s been a real battle to get the help he needs even when he’s paying for it all from his hard earned savings.

Your health is your real treasure in this life so I do need to lose weight recognising that fact.

    xx

@frenchfancy2014 ... Hugs. My heart and prayers are with you. I'm Mary, BTW.

    Saturday 5 Jan

Neighbours are coming to dinner tonight so plan, shop and cook a meal that does not take me too far into the red :) Fitbit says yes! planned and served stuffed mushrooms, pork in sloe gin and veg then blackberry and apple brûlée
No alcohol before the meal :) Had Seedlip and tonic before dinner. I am beginning like Seedlip more that G& T
Log accurately, drink water as well as wine with my meal :) really tried and got there but probably more wine with the meal than water!
    Water challenge :)
    Meet Fitbit excercise goals :)
Laundry :o sorted it but it's still on the floor unwashed,
    Tidy 10 items away :)
Clean and tidy 1 kitchen cupboard :)

A nice day despite the MFP pop up saying how long I'd been on the app. Loosing weight is easier than keeping it off. I can get to my goal but then relax and the weight creeps back. I am hoping this thread will help. I'm currently at a good weight, just need to stay there!

Love this idea! That’s a great motto: one day at a time. My goal this month is to complete 31 miles by the 31st. Clever, right? Lol

Also, I’m looking for more support, so feel free to add me!

@toaljasa thanks for the recipe idea. Could sure use meal suggestions. (Honestly would so love to give up cooking)
@frenchfancy2014 Lurking sounds better than stalking – all in for positive CHANGE. I’ve looked at stuff written 10 years ago and it’s the same darn issues as right now. Like all your faces :)
Jan challenge – drank 48 oz today. Added the MVI mix (which tastes good) and kept putting that bottle in reach.
