Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: This week I had some abdominal pain, so I took it easy exercise wise. I still lifted and did Cardio but had two extra rest days. I think I may have been pushing the exercise too much in terms of frequency but perhaps not enough in terms of intensity. I should sweat more.
As for diet been a little under calorie goal for the week. Pretty good with today’s recorded weight as I have clearly survived my first holiday season in maintenance mode. I think I need to be more mindful of hitting my calorie goals, meaning not coming up short. But I also think we ate out so much over the holidays that some of my estimates were low.

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: This week continued to have some crazy holiday-related fluctuations. I dropped quite a bit of water weight at the beginning of the week, but then put on a huge amount again after New Year's, and am back up again to where I was at the end of last week, high above my maintenance range for the past couple of days. Not a great start to the new year, but I'm pretty sure that it's just related to all of the holiday festivities and am hoping that the next couple of weeks will get me back down into the middle of my range.

Wins:
Got a lot of exercise this week, including jogging.
Dropped down to pre-Christmas weight ( I went up to 132 right after Christmas).
Started eating my usual “workday “ salads for lunch, even though I’m not back at work yet.
Challenges:
Did indulge in some late night snacking of sweets: half a cookie and one candied pecan. The portions were not large enough to have an impact on my weight, but I just want to make sure I don’t fall into my unhealthy habit again of late night snacking.8 -
Want to get on this thread badly. Hope to lose my 15 lbs this year!12

Success/Struggles: When the water weight settled out, I managed to stay just within my maintenance range over the holidays! I didn't track for most of it, and I found out I really don't like stuffing myself anymore - momentarily satisfying but the reflux and over-full feeling just really aren't worth it. Good insight, I don't think I could have said that this time last year.
Wishing everyone a successful week!13 -

Struggles/successes: Post Xmas/NY weight is down a bit. I’m happier right at the bottom of my range but middle is fine - clothes all fit, measurements don’t appear to be changed and I don’t feel like I actually look any different so I think it’s marginal. Got in 5 workouts and 2 runs this week so at least I’ve stayed consistent there.
Have a great week and start to the year all x

Success/struggles- stayed in maintenance all through the holidays and it wasn’t that hard!!! Spent it away visiting family and the look on their faces when they saw me was perfect. I didn’t tell any of them that I had lost and I haven’t seen them in a year and a half I ate what I wanted ( in moderation) and stayed active. I fully expected to gain a bit due to no control on meals served, and no scale but I didn’t and it’s a great feeling.
I have two family members who asked how I lost and are both now signed up here for MFP and doing a monthly workout challenge with me I would never push it on anyone but it was a good feeling that they asked and that they trust my opinion. I showed them my before and after photos and they were sold.
I don’t think I realized what a difference the weight has done for my appearance until I saw everyone’s reaction. I think I look better but still have my insecurities and feel my mind still has to catch up with my body.
Happy new year everyone!!

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: I started this journey last January and reached my lowest weight of 159 (about twenty pounds less than my initial goal weight) back in August. At that point, I got the usual "don't lose any more!/you've lost too much" comments, which I chalked up to the significant change in my appearance. However, after talking with my doctor at my annual physical in the fall and an honest self-appraisal, I decided to gain back about ten pounds. I lost more muscle than I would have liked on the way down and this is an opportunity to rectify that. 170-ish is hopefully a good target, and I'm inching up towards it. When I reach it, I'll re-evaluate whether a new weight range is in order.
I was generally on a nice stable trend over the holidays (despite a few days of overindulgence) and was able to continue workouts even while on vacation. My goal for the first year of maintenance is the same as the last year of losing - better health and fitness, which I hope to be a good motivator in the years to come. I've been shadowing the boards for a few months now and have found the suggestions and advice to be quite helpful - thanks to everyone who shares their knowledge!11 -
Hi Ben-
Congrats and achieving your goals and entering maintenance.
We are about the same age, height, etc... I had a few comments similar to yours about don't lose anymore weight. My mom especially. Still not sure why she would think it was better for me to kill my self one potato chip at a time versus having a healthier body fat percentage and nutrition to go with it.
I am currently at about 16% body fat and still trying to drop that percentage a little but not through weight lost, rather with exercise and maintenance calories (recomp perhaps). Just wondering what's driving you to the slightly higher weight goal, though it is only ten pounds more then my target?reversemigration wrote: »Name: Ben

Hi Eric, thanks for your kind comment! The comments from others were always interesting, though I know they were generally well-intended. I believe that the things people would say along the lines of what your mother did were because they felt self-conscious or felt that someone else's weight loss put them in a bad light. Though I am very careful to make sure to discuss my choices in a way that made it clear that what other people choose to do is their own business, I think some people just take it personally.
As far as my goal, it's a ballpark figure that I decided on after discussing it with my doc as well as looking at my physique. I haven't ascertained my BF in any meaningful way; however, even moving weight from the places that could still stand to lose some (abdomen) to places where I need to add muscle mass (a lovely boney ribcage) will likely not be enough to have the amount of muscle mass that I'd like. From a health perspective, I know that at my age there's a general and accelerating trend of muscle loss, so I'd like to put on what I can while I'm able to do so. I've seen the effects of sarcopenia in senior citizens - the consequences are sobering. I also feel confident (now, at least!) that if I get to my new goal weight and feel that it's a bit too much, I can recalibrate without too much fuss.
My health markers (BP, lipids, resting HR, etc) are all great since losing weight and have remained so as I've put on the ten pounds since my lowest. I'm trying really, really hard not to let the experiment in adding a few pounds become a license for poor habits or turn into a permanent trend. I find that I need as much focus doing this as I did in losing - I will occasionally make bad decisions that require a few days of buckling down to rectify!Hi Ben-

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: I am re-evaluating the quality of food that I am eating. I keep my calories in check, but haven't paid close enough attention to my macros. I am ready to make proper nutrition a priority. I weigh less than I did in high school, but I do have an interest in building muscle and improving my physical health. If I have to slightly increase my weight to build that muscle, I am ok with that. I managed to get through another holiday season without eating any cake, cookies, or sweets, but butter is another story. I have now had a taste of how easy life is when you aren't carting around an extra person on your back and I am looking forward to making this my permanent life.11 -

Happy NEW YEAR!
Success / Struggles: My house is finally free of holiday treats. I am looking forward to getting back to my eating / logging / posting routines in the new year. I haven't been consistent with these routines, and I need to be! Other things have been taking priority over my health, which, I guess, is to be expected. Time to refocus!9 -

Home remodel is almost done. One or two more weekends of that stuff... but then school starts this Tuesday. Too many competing priorities, but health has to come first. Life is good. I am just blessed with too many opportunities at once!
Have a great week!

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: The good news I am the lowest I have ever been or at least since Middle School 36 years ago. The bad news is I did not really want to lose anymore as I want to recomp. I weighed my self last night twice and twice this morning, the scale is right with about a pound difference overnight, normal for me. And I saw this coming as I weigh every night throughout. My official weekly weigh in though is first thing Saturday morning.
The problem is I have not been hitting my full calorie allotment. The trend shows a deficit running about 1,600 intake a day and need to be at 1,990 more ore less. I need to eat more. I guess my Holiday eating out estimates weren’t as under estimated I thought. I figured some of the stuff I ate must have been way higher in calories. Always a work in progress. Been eating at home now since New Years so it will be much easier to hit my marks.

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: Being between semesters made this a good week for workouts, and I was able to get in three days of strength along with my usual six of cardio. Yard work yesterday pushed my steps up to over 22K, and I kept up my six-month streak of getting at least 10K every day. Eating-wise, I am back into routine and have done a better job of getting protein intake up to where it needs to be. Better yet, I was able to ignore the cookies and pecan coffeecake on the kitchen table - made easier by the fact that my eldest son is still home over break and hoovers up food, so no treats last long
Weight-wise, I've been mostly stable, and I was probably a little too strict with eating over the latter part of the week and didn't eat back enough exercise calories. I'd at least like to stabilize while recomping, if not (very) gradually float up to goal range. From a week-to-week perspective, however, it's no big deal. Forest, trees, etc!7 -

Stress has made it a struggle to eat enough to maintain. Especially since hiking and the gym are my main stress relief! I'm happy with the weight I lost, but don't want to go any lower.10 -

Successes/struggles: Was really hungry for a couple of days this week, pre-TOM. Allowed myself to eat more. Then the scale went down! Hilarious when that happens, but I also hate it because it gives newbies the wrong ideas.
Now within goal range, below the middle of my range. Happy spot!9 -
Hi Kirby- I understand about not eating enough. I worked so hard to lose. I don’t want to lose more but I sure don’t want to gain either.
I also tend to try to save plenty of calories to snack at night, then work out and get some more and can’t snack that much. I am forcing the issue now at eating more but here I am 7:30 pm and with the after dinner biking I just did for 50 minutes burning at least 200 calories I still have 800 left to eat. Just to used to running at a deficit.
I’ll get there though. Wishing you all the best on your journey.Hi y'all! New to posting, wow, this maintenance thing has been so much harder than losing...
