What nobody tells you about losing weight

Its not easy but it really pays off and you'll feel so much better
Its not also as easy as loosing 5kg equals going down a dress size though, sometimes can be double that!5 -
@ahunter1283 I’ve also noticed that I didn’t not get sick and I teach in an elementary school! Kids and coworkers are always sick but I stay healthy!16

That fat drops in odd ways. I noticed a difference in my hips the other day- left side has dropped noticeably more fat than the right. Eventually it will even out. Just a great reminder that the body has its own agenda when it comes to picking which fat it burns first. (I giggle at articles that claim they know the secret to targeting fat loss in specific areas.)
Another thing I've noticed lately it that my fingers feel different when they are interlocked. It's a more comfortable feeling. Not sure how to explain it properly.

I Had the same thing! I had these saddlebags right south of my hips...but one side was significantly bigger. I looked weird, but another few months and it evened out on it's own. My fingers have lost fat too, I know exactly what you mean4 -
Okay, here's my running list of my changes. I keep a list of everything I can so that if I don't see progress on the scale I can still look at my list and see that YES, I am seeing results:
My jawbone is starting to feel boney
My thighs: I used to have to stand a yardstick apart for my thighs not to touch, now it's just about 18 inches (as of Jan 2019 it's now 4 inches apart)
Can now feel my skull again at my temples
Can feel my butt bones
Can now feel my entire ribcage outline, back and front. I used to not feel my ribs, they were hidden in fat
My "Neck hump" of fat is gone from my neck/shoulders
I can now cross my legs again
My belly button is drooping
My knees have a new dent in the side where fat used to be
My elbows are boney and have empty "Dents" now where there is little to no fat
I have gone from a size 3x to 1x (26 to 18 approx)...as of Jan. 2019 it is now size 16
I have to use a padded shower seat ( My butt bones hurt, and I sit down on a bench to shower so I don't fall)
My wedding rings are too big
My collarbone is really visible and my wrists are tiny
As of Nov 2018 I can now shop in regular stores!
Jan 2019. My shoes are too big!
Also let me just say this, find a good thrift store and if you can't then shop online. Poshmark and Ebay have helped me replace all my clothes (coats too) because buying that much clothing would be thousands at retail stores. I have a thousand different changes that have happened, this is just some of them....it's exciting!

It’s hard when people around you express jealousy. A coworker was passing out staff T-shirt’s we’d ordered and she said “Here’s your small T-shirt “. Another coworker expressed disgust that I was a small. It is hurtful. I used to be jealous too but I didn’t express it out loud.36

On a related note to my post above. I guess I used to bond with other people who were overweight. Like joking about needing chocolate after a stressful day. Or saying I’ll start a new diet later. But now I don’t have that connection with other people. I’m not comfortable sharing how good I feel unless they bring it up. Even then I’m afraid I’ll come across as judgmental.32

When you get on the treadmill and crank up the speed and your heart just keeps on at 118 like Meh this is no problem.37

THE CONFIDENCE!!! Before I had my kiddos, I lost almost 80lbs. I was my heaviest in high school and started my weight loss journey shortly after graduating. Running into old classmates who didn't recognize me or all of the sudden "showed interest" in me, when before they barely gave me the time of day... I learned a lot about myself, my worth and how I view myself. I realized how shallow people can be. I wore less make up, stopped dying my hair vibrant colors... I realized I was trying to distract people from the fact that I was heavy. In all actually, I don't need any of that. Even now, after having 2 babies and putting some weight back on, I'm still confident with who I am and who I know I can be!!
All thanks to my weight loss journey.... It changed my perspective and my life!!

You will hit a goal weight and then your body says "Sorry that's enough, lets put some of that right back on" even when you are still in training and not eating differently. Oh and don't get me started about the loose skin. I could make a toddler out of what they would take during surgery if I could afford the surgery.36

You've crossed into a new way of thinking! It can be difficult to deal with people who reinforced your old way of thinking. But you don't really have to be judgemental towards them, no more than you have to be harsh towards your old self. You can simply say things like, "I hear ya...what a stressful day! (No mention of chocolate)" "I hate it when I feel run down too." "Backaches are the worst!" You can acknowledge their reality without being judgemental.35 -

Well my 2 cents is for extremely overweight persons like I used to be but back in 2011 The world will not really be better once you are fit
Once you get used to eat little portions you can get addicted and with health problems like bulimia really easy
The scale will become a new addiction
getting new clothes will become almost as expensive as chocolate and chips :P
Keep it going after you reach your weight goal, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month or even 1 year diets are nothing, if you lived something like 30+ years destroying your body don't expect less time to recover, but 1 hour is all it takes to start the change
Amen. I've got a 102 year old friend who is maintaining 60+ years of lost weight. He's a ways past the new clothes stage, his beloved wife passed on decades ago. Yet the love he spread on the earth continues to return to him with regular visitors to his nursing home room.30 -
This may sound strange, but my teeth look whiter and feel cleaner!10

That you’re going to be cold. All the time.22

That you’re going to be cold. All the time.
100%! Jumpers, coats & big thermal socks make me audibly groan these days & I could weep for joy everytime I bring a new warm thing home!
Folk are forever saying to me now "Oh, are you not staying...?" cos given the choice my coat will stay firmly on 😂15 -
Some people think I’ve “suddenly” lost weight and I might be getting “too thin.” It took me 12 months to lose 30 pounds. And my BMI is 22.7. I’d have to lose 28 more pounds to be underweight.26

That the day may come when you realize that the thing standing between you and smaller clothing sizes is actual bones, and starving yourself further is not going to shrink your pelvis any.49
-
That you may still not be able to do some things. Only the reasons will change.
(Though as reasons go, I quite like 'I keep accidentally bruising my arms on my pelvis')14 -
Even though you think your friends and family will support your journey, many are disgruntled by the amount of time you dedicate to the changes you're making.
Just because you feel better and want to be more active, those around you may not be as enthusiastic about being active.30 -
That you will be told time and time again "if you lose anymore weight there'll be nothing left of you". Argggghhhh im still bloody big, just smaller than i was23
-
That your friends will make passive aggressive comments about how you better be careful about gaining the weight back if they see you eat "junk food," despite the fact that they put 0 effort into controlling their weight whatsoever and wonder why they are so overweight when they eat in a caloric surplus 7 days out of the week.29

I've lost almost 40lbs so far with 14lbs to go, and being able to spoon with a loved one on the couch without feeling squished or falling off is awesome.
Also, when you started getting right swipes from the hot guys on tinder.19 -

Very true!! Pretty sure it is physically impossible for me to get below a size 8/10 pant due to my hips.... Gets to the point where the weight keeps dropping, but my pant size doesn't.

That you can hug allllllllll the way around your kids22

How about having the new you sitting in your vehicle, which are still contorted to your old body? Through my weight loss, my tail bone has no more fat protection. Said tail bone has discovered that it can uncomfortably find and feel the metal frame work in my truck seats, that my once larger frame squished down a bit. Time for a new truck!18

I had to buy a tailbone pillow for my office chair.12 -
How cold I am all the time. How emotional weight loss can be-I cry all the time out of sheer pride. How those little NSV's will get ya- from sliding right into a movie theater seat without thinking twice to crossing my legs to not worrying if I'll fit in a booth to being capable of running- these are the life changing moments that make weight loss worth every tear and drop of sweat.36

Catching yourself in the mirror unexpectedly and stopping for a minute to make sure it's you. For a minute or two you're kind of surprised then, if you're me, you can't see that thinner person anymore and all you see is yourself and the flaws.20

Yep. I have this issue. I still see "bigger me". Granted, I no longer see "biggest me", but I don't see the me that just bought a new pair of pants in a size that I never would have fathomed I'd ever be. I still see the me of 20kg ago.
But I take heart and have hope. As my mind has shifted in the last 7 years from seeing "biggest me" to seeing "bigger me" that someday, I will just see me in the mirror.
The mind is slowest to shift, it seems.37
