But I'm not proud that I drank yesterday (about 5 or 6 drinks) just because it was February 1. In any case, man did I feel it today. I haven't had a headache that bad in ages.
Me too. Had exactly the same experience. Drank Friday and last night and will go to Super Bowl party today and undoubtedly drink some more. I am NOT loving the headaches. We went out to our fancy and very expensive dinner last night to celebrate the end of Dry Jan. Went through two bottles of wine (for four people) and our half of the tab was right around $170. I am pretty unhappy with how much we spent and how much I drank. SO not worth it. i am asking myself what I thought was so great about wine this morning, LOL. Planning to be dry Mon-Thurs this week and possibly beyond. That was my pattern before DJ.

I'm kind of struggling with this whole alcohol free Super Bowl Sunday. Here in Texas it's like 70 degrees, perfect weather, and I miraculously have off of work. I feel very tempted, kind of frustrated but still determined not to cave.5

Well, I didn't start February out very well. I drank my usual amount on Friday night (and didn't go to sleep any earlier!) and then the husband's annoying family came over last night. Despite my best efforts to stick to only one to two, I ended up drinking a lot. I was supposed to get a few errands done today and even though I woke up early, I didn't do anything, so now I have to do it all tomorrow. I'm glad I'm writing this down so I can refer back to it next time I'm tempted to drink on Saturday night. I'm not trying to beat myself up over it like I used to in the past, but trying to learn from it and what I can do differently next time.
Last year I bought the book "Alcohol Explained" and didn't read very much of it because I started reading it right after I'd read "This Naked Mind". What I read of it was interesting but I just stopped reading it for some reason. So my homework for this month is to read all of "Alcohol Explained".6 -
A little disappointed in myself tonight. I had a couple drinks with rum while at home. I had a really great run outside earlier and obviously decided to have a drink, which turned in to three. I’m still below my calorie goal but I would have done even better, or would have had a Girl Scout cookie for dessert if I hadn’t had any alcohol. Oh-well, it happened. I still have 3 pounds to lose and plan to continue with my goal, this just gives me more to think about.4

I'm aiming for 100% dry February here! But will be OK with only 1 or 2 single drinks if a special event pops up... kinda doubt my husband will want to do anything for Valentines but ya never know!3
-
This has been my goal all along. To reduce the amount I drink and not just for the weight loss. I sleep better, I feel better when I dont drink. Problem is my husband drinks a lot and I can get caught up in it. I just want to be happy. Why do I act as though I dont deserve to be happy. Sorry for the rant6

I got tired of sacrificing food in order to satiate my drinking desires, oh and I got tired of being a drunk (me not you) so I read Rational Recovery a few months ago and have been and will forever be AF. Sometimes the game ain't worth the candle.7

Managed another week & weekend of alcohol free. Woke up this morning feeling really good and positive. This is a major step for me as I've been suffering over the past 4 years with major anxiety.6

Welcome to all our new posters this month.
Groundhogs Day and the Super Bowl both in the same weekend...both with anticipated out comes. Hope your predictions came true.
Being the only non-drinker at both a pre-game bash and during the Super Bowl for a 10 hour stretch was not difficult at all.
No worries of driving afterwards is probably my greatest joy.
Monday, another week to drink "less".

@Polydactylkat I love it!
Stuck to my AF plan this weekend. All that pizza I ate though... not part of the plan! Haha!3 -

I ate and drank wayyyy too much this weekend. Gained three pounds - crazy! Going to the gym this a.m. was hell, but needed to be done. I'm pretty unhappy with myself except for the part about getting out of bed at 6 a.m. to go to the gym. I wear a Fitbit and am fascinated/alarmed with the way my resting heart rate goes up when I've been drinking. Will be AF today through Thursday at the very least. For some crazy reason I don't find it hard to go back to no drinking during the week, which is good. I've set a goal for myself to lose five pounds this month and I'm definitely going the wrong direction. But today's a new day . . .8

Managed to stay AF this past weekend which I'm incredibly proud of! I'm on a work trip this week with lots of team dinners and outings but I'm planning on staying AF. It was amazing getting off the plane yesterday totally clear headed and then able to get up and run this morning even with the time change. I'm normally hung over the day after flying from drinking so much - this was a much better experience!9
-
I've been thinking about it, and there were two things that I didn't do on Saturday night that I would normally do. One: I didn't feel the need to "catch up" to the other people drinking. In the past if I came to a party late or other people were at my home already drinking, I'd chug a beer or do a shot or two (and of course regret it next morning). On Saturday I just drank at my normal pace all night. Two: I didn't feel the need to drink every beer in the house! In the past I'd drink until there wasn't anymore, but now I still have enough left over for next weekend. My husband was the one drinking my beer after his ran out. So maybe these are small subconscious improvements I'm taking, even though I did drink, and a little more than I had been.8

I made it through the Super Bowl so that was like one sort of "challenge" I felt like I beat. My next two obstacles will arise when we go to the Rodeo on Thursday and of course, Valentines day. At the Rodeo there are tons of little shops set up so instead of buying 10 dollar beers I will buy something of real value, something that can be held on to longer than a buzz. Valentines day might be a little trickier if a fancy meal is involved but I'll figure something out I'm sure.3

Invited my sister over for dinner last night. I really wanted to pick up a bottle of wine for us all to share. But DH is doing so well ... and I did not want to break his 10 day AF streak. The longest he remembers going is 2-3 days last year.
Plus it was a weekday ... and there was no real reason for the wine. It was just the first time I "wanted" it. But that feeling passed.

Had 1.5 drinks last night, but no drunk eating after dinner so that is fantastic for me! Plus I feel fine this AM.
Great job everyone so far! Your posts really inspire me.4 -
After a very wet January and another relationship/booze talk, I'm back to trying to get healthy. Day 4 AF. Sleep is as awful as ever--hope to experience sweet sleep soon. Instead of a midnight drink (or 2) to fall asleep, I went on a peanut bender.
Nothing like peanut burps while running on the treadmill. But every belch was like a little victory as I reminded myself that I never would have made it to the gym--much less at 7:30 a.m., had a had my usual round of wine, etc. last night.5 -
After a rager on Sunday and hangover on Monday....count me in. AF for 3 days now.3

So I started reading "Alcohol Explained" and got through the first few sections. I've been reading it slowly and re-reading some parts because I want it to sink in. Anyway, as I was reading I had an idea. I don't go to too many social functions where there are large gatherings of people drinking and don't even go out to bars much anymore, but when I do, I usually overdo it.
So next time before I go to one of these gatherings, I'm going to write out some motivational messages from me to me, and keep them handy on my phone so I can quick refer to them when I need to during my night out. Perhaps if I can refer to messages such as: "This event lasts only a few hours but if you over drink you'll feel awful for the next several days!" and "Don't worry about how much and how fast everyone else is drinking, it's not a contest!" will help me drink much slower. It sounds kind of silly as I'm writing it down, but I'm going to try it anyway.10 -
Ok. Yesterday was my birthday and it was a very nice day! We went and had German food and beer for dinner and it was glorious. I, again, didn't work out this morning just like the mornings after I drank last week. I think after just eating everything yesterday and not calorie counting, that I am ready to buckle down again to finally reach my weight goal. Since the end of January, I have fishtailed. We are still planning on going out for dinner on Feb 13th so I'm wanting to be AF till then. I'm going to have to get out a puzzle again, I think, for when my husband has a few beers while cooking dinner. That seemed to help me the first few weeks of January.
I'm also getting a very nice used treadmill from a co-worker for an extremely good deal! I am so stoked! The one I have been using was gifted to me by my mother in law but it is like 20 years old and the most basic (I'm going to give it to a different co-worker for free). I've been using it 5 or 6 days a week so I know I'll just be even more excited for this nice one with all the bells and whistles!3 -

I had my first day off in months on Feb 1, 2018, and have been posting in these threads since then.
I've been alcohol-free ever since then.
I didn't plan to quit. I just kept feeling better and better as the days passed.
Thanks to MFP members' support and insights.
There are lots of support apps, and communities such as these monthly threads that are so helpful in battling our brains when they have habitual thoughts of drinking.
Sharing our experiences helps us challenge our thoughts and create new, beneficial habits.
Orphia how did you handle social occasions with friends where everyone was drinking and expected you to participate...3
