@alphahowls with the recent discussion of tracking shoe mileage I have to ask...how many pair do you go through in a year, and how many miles do you usually get from your shoes? 36.62...dang!

@garygse Congratulations! I keep thinking that there ought to be someone in this group faster than a 63 year old dude with arthritis in his right foot; now you are officially that someone. Way to go, and maybe I'll see you in Boston on Patriots' Day 2020. Most likely you'll start 25 minutes before I do.13

Another day, another indoor run. Had left foot pain again although it eventually eased. I definitely prefer the indoor track to the dreadmill. At least on the indoor track I can look outside occasionally (at the horrifying cold) and down at the swimming pool, badminton courts, and also make faces at the people lifting weights.

I did end up finding some time to run a bit before leaving Orlando. Got in 6 miles with my brother, his daughter, and son-in-law. As an added bonus, we had a snack during the run....so many bugs flying around you just couldn't help but swallow a few But it was worth it!

W4D3 completed. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to go out today after the snow came late yesterday. However, it was the perfect snow to run it. We got about 6 inches and I was originally going to run in the park that I usually run in, but driving by it earlier in the day I saw that the gate to the park was closed and the roads through the park were not plowed, so I had planned to go running on another trail. However, 2 hours later on my way to the alternate trail I saw that the gate was opened and the roads had been plowed. So, the dog and I turned into our regular park and went running. Most of the run was on snowed covererd paths. Most of the paths were not plowed and some parts were untouched so the dog and I got a pretty good work out running through the snow. As we were about to start the last running interval I noticed that my dog was over all of the snow, so we made our way over to the plowed roads for an easier end to the run...the dog was happy. W5 starts next week, it will be interesting to see what will happen as we are expecting a couple of rounds of snow over the next week.

Long run of the week. I must've underestimated how hungry I was, since I spent half the run thinking about the sausage in my fridge and the various ways I was going to cook it the moment I got home.
All in all a good run. My pace didn't suffer even though I felt like I was starving. In fact, I remember a particularly good run along almost the same route nearly a year ago that went at about the same pace but feeling more like a 10k effort. I remember back when I was first getting into running, when every new long run was a PR and speed PBs came along all the time. I've almost forgotten how that feels, but I might let myself get a wee bit excited about this run today.
Congrats to everyone who raced this weekend!

Hike and evening walk and life added up to almost 20k steps yesterday so I went to bed not knowing if my legs would be up to that lovely c25k 20 minute run this morning. Woke up early, didn't want to wake anyone up so I lay in bed considering options. The dirt road I wanted to run is by the river at the bottom of the hill this village is at the top of, and I've bonked a few times in the past walking home up it after runs. So in the end I decided to break my principles and drive to where I wanted to run. For some reason it feels wrong to me to do that, but following my promise to be gentle on my legs it was the best option. Beautiful sunshine, had to take my jacket off before I was even done with my warm up walk. Couple of loose dogs but they were friendly, got chased by a chicken and yelled at by a goat. Really love these country runs. I started to think I might need to slow down even more to finish right before the woman with the annoying voice told me I was half way, so I turned round (always feels like it gets easier on the way home) and my random playlist started making Steve Tyler ask if it was over in my ear, followed by a bunch of guys telling me they're just suckers for pain. Made me laugh all the way home.
Finally I feel like I'm running again. Also think now I've done the driving to run thing I might try driving out to the beachside boardwalk and running that some time, which that silly principle has always stopped me doing before.15 -
Thanks to all the advice and support from you lovely people. Went out for jog this morning. Went back to couch to 5k, well tried to but the app dropped out after 5 mins. Fortunately I had also set Runkeeper going so I had a notification of every km. This helped, and I jogged over 3k without stopping, which is more than I have managed recently. In total 4 miles covered this morning which brings the months total to 14 miles.

Yesterday, I ran a local 15K that has been put on by our local running club for the last 35 years. I had never run it before, but it starts and ends less than 5 minutes from my house, so I thought it would be convenient and fun.
The route is pretty hilly. The running club jokes about the “gently rolling hills.” It is so big of a joke that they put the elevation change on the shirt this year.
The 15K didn’t start until 9:00, so I slept in until 7:00, ate and dressed, and made it over right before the 5K started. I realized after i arrived that I had left my headphones at home, but hubby was kind enough to drive them over before my race started.
It was about 40 degrees with clear skies when we started. My whole goal today was to try to do better than my time of the one other 15K I had run. I didn’t expect a huge change considering this route was so hilly. If nothing else, it would be a fun training run for my half.
I ended up getting first in the 35-39F age group, and I shaved off 13 minutes from my last 15K race! I was really surprised that I had improved so much.

I would love to be faster than you but I doubt I am capable of that. So I proudly rep the mid-packers.5 -

@PastorVincent I'll make the same offer to you and everyone else here. Come run with me in Minnesota and I'll bring the bacon! I'm just frying up some now before I head to the trails on a very snowy day.

Slept in this morning and woke up to some fluffy snow but less wind and a bit warmer temps. A friend needed to do her long run today (one who fell yesterday in the icy condition and warned the rest of us not to try the trails) so I met her for the second hour of it. The sun was out by then and it was so much better than yesterday that it felt much warmer than the temps said. I woke up with a stiff lower back but it mostly worked out during the run. Overall a nice morning out.
Two weeks out from my next HM and four weeks out from my Spartan race. I'm feeling pretty good about the first after getting a couple of 10-mile runs done. At least I should be able to last the distance unless the weather is spectacularly awful (that's not a challenge, weather!). The Spartan race is another story, I just get more nervous about that one. It's a team thing and supposed to be all for fun though, so let's just hope that it really is fun.12 -

Congratulations to all for your great runs this weekend! Extra congrats to those with races, including the PR's and BQ. You're ALL so motivating and inspiring. You were all on my mind in the middle of my run today. Thanks for joining me.
It was about 9F (-13C) with a 'feels like' around 0F (-18C) due to the wind. Because we'd had a decent amount of snow the past couple days, and our walk yesterday was rough, I debated taking the dogs for a short walk beforehand and just running alone. I changed my mind when they saw me changing my clothes and figured I could bring them back and finish up if needed.
They plowed the roads overnight! WOOT!
My plan was to run the same 4 miles I did last week, but at 3.5 miles I decided to push just a little farther. We ended up with 4.5 miles in 1:08. That puts me at 13 miles for the week (because I postponed my long run last Sunday to Monday). Came back and showered, then went out and dug out our and the neighbors driveway.9 -

When I was a teenager lunch meat was a treat to have. I thought “I’m going to live on lunch meat when I’m on my own”. Remember Al Bundy? There was an episode where Kelly moved out and her fridge was stocked with lunch meat... hmmm, yep that’s my SES right there... but, the universe is humorous with cruelties and I can have no lunch meat with out payment of pain. Why! I must have been naughty in a past life. I wanna run, but have hip issues, I wanna be smart but have brain issues, I wanna have friends but am “broken” and don’t like people.... haha haha! Oh I’m just rattling on this AM to give you something to laugh at... 😹 enjoy your friends, preserved meats, and runs! Oh and that ball of fat that’s so awesome!9 -

60 posts behind. I'll go back and ready but atm I'm anxiously waiting in hope that my new shoes arrive today. They should have been here Friday but nope, and its now Monday. There is no information available on the tracking (typical for NZ post really) so I'm not feeling overly confident but hopeful? I want my new shoes damn it! I dressed appropriately so I can take them for a treadmill run at lunchtime if they do show.
I hate living rural sometimes. Everything takes longer to get to you. I'll know in an hour7
