@7lenny7 - Beautiful pics! Poor Kody getting full of those little things. Whatever they are called - I call them velcro balls.
@shanaber - you definitely need a road trip with Hobbes! Congrats!
Thanks for the congrats everybody! I didn't eat or drink enough Saturday afternoon/evening after the duathlon. Wait, I did drink enough but not of a proper rehydration drink. And I mixed wine with Fireball shots. So I paid for it Sunday. A regular old-fashioned hangover. I'm too old for this nonsense. Oh well, it was fun on Saturday night. l

@garygse loved your race report - so inspiring and I am so happy for you.
@rheddmobile loved your report too! Great job - looks so fun, but tough! Good luck finishing up the series!
@martaindale I love this: "So, there. I did my stupid long run." I need that t-shirt. I can so relate to the thought process and bargaining with yourself. You did it! And nice pace.
Here we go with another week, friends. I feel like I don't know how this one is going to go at all, so I'm just going to try to coffee up and kick *kitten* to the best of my ability.6 -
2/8 - 2 miles
2/9 - 3 miles
Was a bit cold yesterday, but made the warm hot chocolate afterwards all the more worth it 😋6 -
I am late to the party but finally made it. I am now 11 weeks away from my 1/2 marathon in Scotland. My goal this month is to run 100 miles. It will be the first time I have accomplished that. Yesterday, I had my longest single run ever at 5 miles. I averaged 14.13 minute pace which is pretty good considering I normally average about 15.30 minutes on the road. This weekend is my first 6 mile run. I'm going to extend it to 6.2 so that I can officially earn my VRC Acadia medal I've also gotten much better at treadmill running. I am still ridiculously slow but can run for miles instead of minutes.
I wish I could catch up with everyone and personally tell each of you how awesome you are but I have a riveting paper on the Transportation and Warehousing of rice in the Walmart China Supply Chain waiting to be completed.

Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
Sloppy, snowy, slushy, icy this morning with the temperature right at 32 degrees F.
@shanaber If we do have a turtle race, I'll be glad to represent the 65 - 70 age group. I can rock slow almost as well as I rock rest.7 -

(I really have no problem paying taxes, just wish it was not so flipping complicated to do! I mean could you imagine if McDonalds made you fill out 500 forms and what not before they allowed you to give them money? Crazy!)
Ever since I read about the Scandinavian system of sending pre-filled tax returns the clunkiness of the US tax system has really chapped my kitten. And then I found out how much money TurboTax has put into lobbying against streamlining tax filing and let’s just say I definitely don’t give them money anymore.
If running pants came with back pockets, I would totally try the hand-warmer thing.
if you get a cycling shirt, it might cover your bum and many of them come with a back pocket(s)1 -

I have heard that cycling shirts are longer, but I didn't know about the pockets! I'm pretty short so most shirts are long enough for some rear coverage, though it's taken some trial and error to figure out what to tuck into what for comfort and so on. Honestly, I think the thing I miss the most about running in the summer is not having to think so much about my clothes.1 -

I have two words for you that will solve the pocket issue: Duct Tape.5 -

Eeeehhhh, I feel like the removal of said duct tape could be an issue. That said, I did remember that two of my shorts have large side pockets - not quite perfect placement, but maybe worth a shot!1 -

I bag the women's 40-45 spot!
Can't remember whether I posted yesterday or not, and I'm too lazy to go back and see, but I've completed week 5 of c25k now and have signed us all up for a little local charity race series, which starts on Sunday with a 3k (then there's a 5k mid-March and a 7k towards the end of April. You get a T-shirt if you complete all 3, woot!). Figure as I'm due to do 22 minutes on Saturday a 3k on Sunday instead will be fine. Just have to stop myself from actually racing it :-D
The local HM is on November 3rd. So I pretty much have my runs mapped out for the next 9 months lol. Finish c25k then an 8km plan then a 15km plan then split the weekly mileage at the end of that into 4 days for 3 weeks to get used to 4 runs per week instead of 3 then HM plan. Not that I'm obsessed or anything

I am many pages behind... That little tickle in the back of my nose Thursday proved to be in fact, the cold virus out to get me. So at this point I'm just trying to hydrate, eat zinc and elderberry suplements in an effort to keep it out of my chest. With luck, I'll be in working order by the end of the week. Then I can report my running. I think I'll just start "week 5" over again as soon as I feel well enough to start huffing and puffing along on the treadmill. Good luck to everyone else! and Happy Running! I'll just lurk along until I can run again, lol!11

@MegaMooseEsq I saw these and thought of you - tights with a double layer butt! Also: pockets!

LMAO at “hamhock-*kitten*”. I’m going to have to check my budget...5 -
@MegaMooseEsq in summer I have more issues storing things. In winter I wear a vest on top, with pockets. Never considered wearing my cycling jerseys for running, but I guess there's no reason not to!
@garygse and @rheddmobile great race reports!
@eleanorhawkins great job on completing week 5 of c25k! Your ramping up-plan sounds very doable
@Crafty_camper123 Get well soon!5 -
@garygse awesome race report! I too got a few tears at pike, pikes are the best!
@MegaMooseEsq I'm the opposite, hanging out for cooler weather. This heat is energy sapping! But then our coldest does not include snow. I think a few of you will have to save your snow pics so in a few months when I'm complaining about the cold you can remind me what real cold is!6 -
In other news, shoes are officially on the courier! I'll have them in 2.5 hrs.
They better fit after all this sigh10 -

In Canada my tax software imports all my tax slips from the government tax website (from work, retirement savings, etc) and all I have to enter are my charitable donations and my daycare fees (they're a refundable tax credit).8 -
@garygse great race report! I have definitely teared up at or right after the finish line before.3

So, it's good I didn't set a goal for this month yet. Had an insane work week last week because I was last-minute asked to give a presentation at a workshop today. On a new-for-me topic (i.e. at least I've never given a talk about it ). Spent all evenings/nights preparing it and only did short runs, no strength training, and half a day of skiing.
Flew to Munich stupidly early Sunday morning, must have caught a bug at the airport or eaten something bad, because I felt queasy all afternoon and spent the night being violently ill. I dragged myself to the workshop long enough to give my talk (thanks, adrenaline!), back to my hotel right afterwards and mostly sleeping. No more throwing up since a few hours, yay! I just felt okayish enough to go to the super market next door to buy crackers, sugar cubes and sports drink to try and get back on my feet. But I don't think I'll be running tomorrow either. Super frustrating: I picked my hotel to be close to an ideal running place, rather than convenient wrt anything else. And now I had to take a two our nap to recover from walking to the shop on the other side of the road17 -
Now that our storm season is ending I'm looking forward to getting back on my run schedule. I run 2-3 days a week 3-4 miles at a time. It isn't a lot but works for me. Goal for February is to hit a minimum of 5 miles a week while I work back up after not running much Dec/Jan9

PastorVincent wrote: »@MegaMooseEsq have you considered taping hand warmers in your shorts to keep your backside warm?
I was thinking maybe add some shorts as an additional layer. The butt coat probably helps, but cold air is still getting up there. I tend to double (or triple if it's really cold) the running tights and that helps. Ski trousers also keep you warm but mine impede movement and make a swish-swish sound when I run.2 -

2/1-9 Totals: 57.1 km run, Other cardio 190 minutes
2/11 - 27.2 km run
I'm not sure if doing the long run today was a good idea after poor nutrition, very poor sleep and a dose of public humiliation yesterday (it probably wasn't that bad, I was a guest singer for a concert, blanked and faked it, making up my own words on a solo. Maybe no one noticed??? Maybe the TV cameras weren't broadcasting live??? I'm guessing very few people other than me actually care but still.) Woke up with a headache, but couldn't really put off the run schedule-wise.
On the run I had to reroute through sketchy parts of town due to construction, saw a guy who had been swimming in the freezing cold river (decided I'm not the craziest person on the loose today), ate my snacks and drank my "vitamin water", listened to a podcast about a wild DNF in an Alaskan ultra race, made peace with sections of last year's marathon route, and just kept going. Eventually I got back home and my family arrived shortly afterwards with the very Thai food I had beed daydreaming about on the run. Headache was gone during the run but is back and I don't feel so great. Maybe I ran too far today. I'm fueling, hydrating, and taking it easy.View at the reservoir.url=https://www.TickerFactory.com/exercise/wwrvE1U/]

Oh, I've totally been wearing shorts as a mid-layer over my leggings and under my butt coat. When it's really cold (sub 10-ish) I add long underwear but any warmer than that and the rest of my legs are too warm. Honestly, I think a lot of the reason this has been such a struggle is that there's such a disparity between how cold my butt gets and how cold the rest of my legs get. I ran 90 minutes in 16 degree weather yesterday with a single layer from thighs to ankles and was completely fine. I ran a half marathon in 30 degree weather in shorts! It's just the bleeping hamhocks...4 -

Today I got to run 1.77 miles home from gym. It was tough, but so am I. *grins*
Seriously though, the couple of patches of bare pavement felt like heaven after running on a couple inches of snow in various stages of compaction. And I walked pretty much every time the elevation increased even slightly, because running in snow after heavy deadlifts is hard enough when it’s perfectly flat.
Once again, the only time I lost my footing was when I was not running - yesterday I almost wiped out crossing a street at a walk, today it was ascending a mountain where the curb cut hadn’t been cleared. SHOVEL YOUR CURB CUTS, PEOPLE!
