Nope, it's mainly genetic, though may get a bit better as you reduce your bodyfat.9

well I dont have anyone in my family with this issue.... not a single person:((....
when you say Nope, were you having trouble getting rid of cellulite or thats just your opinion that it is genetic?14 -

thanks...saw that article while ago....out of all elements mentioned the only one that applies to me is that I am a female.....no genetic predisposition, no stress, weight gain...well i have been around the same weight forever....besides many women lot heavier than me dont have cellulite, age? well im still in my 30ies....
I have read what cellulite is and how it forms a lot lol......except it doesnt really help me to improve it.....6 -
not so sure about the inflammation process....2

I lost all my cellulite, bear in mind though when i started i was at around 41/42% body fat. I've lost 87lbs and now sitting at around 23%. But it's all gone now. Hoping to improve even more with increased resistance training! Good luck2

There was a show on the BBC a while ago (Possibly The Truth About: Beauty??) where they had 8-10 women try cellulite creams, exercise (lunges mostly from the looks of it), I think pills and body brushes. It was by no means a scientific study but the women who used the body brushes saw more of a visual improvement than the others. It's supposed to stimulate the lymphatic system/ blood flow in the area. I'm honestly only mentioning it because it surprised me that any of them saw any improvement at all, I am a hella skeptic, and a body brush is like, £6?? And it can't possibly hurt to try. It is just literally how your body works tho, female fat cells are arranged differently to male fat cells, like it's supposed to be there so I don't think it's worth much of your time worrying about it.
I have have to see rib outlines before I can't see cellulite in my normal mirror. Downlight me and its still lurking no matter what weight I'm at.9 -
thanks for your feedback!! yes I got the body brush hehe...started doing it for little while but didnt stick with it....wasnt much difference if any...but i will start that again as logically it makes sense that it supports blood circulation also
and wow amazing loosing 87 pounds....how long did it take you to loose that much? and when you are saying your cellulite is gone did you mainly think it was due to the gym?? did you do lot of leg machines? high resistance??7 -
it is primarily genetics. just because no one you know has it, doesnt mean that its not in the genes.
and really, how often do we examine grandmas rear end?
reduce body fat. drink water. increase muscle. all of it helps. but it all boils down to genes.
ive lost 130 pounds and still have cellulite.
whatever. lol12 -
lol...good point.....thank you0

Mine hasn't completely disappeared but it's only visible in bad lighting and it's just under the glutes. A combination of lifting weights, building muscle, lowering my bodyfat % has helped.5

Really? You've inspected all of their thighs and derrieres with the same scrutiny you subject yourself to?
I classify cellulite with stretch marks - a fact of life that most people have at least some, but you won't see them in media because it's all airbrushed out. I've wasted zero seconds worrying about them today, and will do the same tomorrow.11 -
I don't have tons of it.. but some on my inner thighs ..and just in recent years when I got out of shape. I've been doing a form of tanka massage on my legs and arms to see if it firms up those areas. It is free..almost like body brushing.. so why not just try it. I feel like it is improving my skin making it more firm. There is some Japanese girl on instagram who does this..she is some beauty guru with a big following. .. of course she is beautiful and her body is perfect but she says her technique helps with loose skin and elasticity. .. so take it for what it is worth. I've been doing it for about a month.. if I get miraculous results in the end.. I'll post.9

I technically still had a bit of cellulite when I was 16 and had a BMI of 14.9 thanks to anorexia. So, basically, I know it ain't ever going away and I've made my peace with it now at 30 and a BMI in the 20s. However, over the last year I've done more resistance training, kettlebells, bodyweight stuff like yoga etc, and I do think it's diminished. Everything feels firmer. But in certain lighting you can still see cellulite. My husband doesn't care. My friends don't care. Literally no one cares except you if you let it.6

The tabloids in the summer are always full of unairbrushed pictures of celeb's derrieres on the beach showing all their lumps and bumps for a reason - because the vast majority of women who aren't like 25 yrs old have cellulite, even the ones who have the money and access for literally anything.
Lowering your body fat % a little more may or may not help, same as building your lower body muscles. It seems like some creams or non-invasive spa/dermatologist procedures help some people, but they all involve continuing the treatments for as long as you want to keep the results. A fake tan can also make it less obvious.3 -
Try to stop caring about it.

Cellulite isn't really a thing. It was a term invented back in the 60's, I think by Vogue magazine. I took anatomy for two years including dissection, and never ran across the term "cellulite" from my college professors or in any textbook. It is nothing but body fat that has pushed through connective tissue that lies above it, giving it a dimply appearance. Like any other fat (including "belly fat") there is no magical way to spot reduce it. Only through calorie deficit.5

I’ve almost never had any.. however when I gained ten pounds I noticed some on my upper thighs and below my butt. After cutting added sugar and weight lifting it’s gone for me. I think for anyone to say it’s impossible to get rid of it isn’t fair, since that’s not true for everyone. I got rid of mine.16

Still rocking white streaks on my thighs from yo-yo-ing during childhood-early teenage years (obese-normal BMI-underweight back and forth several times). Even after a good 15 years of having a fairly stable bodyweight (between 21-23). Paler I get, the slightly less noticeable, but nonetheless still there upon close examination (embracing, not bothered by)0

+1 on the spray tan1

I’ve had cellulite since puberty (11yr old) and I was never over weight until I got pregnant with my son (24 yr old). Some people are just going to have it no matter what and I’m one of them. I’m now almost 40 with bf% 23-34 and still have it some. It is less noticeable the more weight training I do but I don’t expect to ever not have some. I fake tan to camouflage it during shirt and swimsuit season.3

Maybe you should send away from one of those DNA geneology tests. Maybe you're not really related to the people you're looking at to determine your genetic predisposition.4 -
I have some on my legs which looks worse in bad lighting.
It has reduced a lot from when I was 30% BF to now (~22% BF i'm guesstimating). At my leanest of about 18% BF I still had some, but less visible.
So yeah, I think the more muscle less fat you have the less it shows.
I do, however, hold hopes that there is a miracle out there and I take DIM tablets to magically help me get rid of them (still there tho).
I have in the past had massages and some fat freezing treatment thing done and also one time some other machine thing that kind of kneaded the fat (it was cheap, so hey!). With these "treatments" I found the visible appearance reduced, but as soon as I stopped, it came back.
The other thing is, when I have done things like that I was being more consistent with diet and therefore it could just have been the diet rather than the machines. Or maybe a miraculous combination of both.
I haven't tried any creams tho.2 -

Can I be completely honest here, I actually do not know what cellulite is.
No seriously. I've had it explained to me so many times. And yes, I've seem those magazines where they circle some random celebrity's legs and say "omg, look, cellulite!". And yes, I understand that it's the "dimpling of the skin" and that.
But seriously, all I see is some legs. As in, that's what legs look like.
Personally it would be like looking at someone's palms and say "omg look! They have lines on their palms".
I just don't get it.
I can honestly say that I have never seen cellulite on another person's body. Even in those magazines I can't see it. It's literally just legs. Even those people who say "I've have such bad cellulite", I don't see it. What they have is legs. And then I stop staring at their butt because that kind of thing is more than a little rude.
My point is, why are you worrying about something that literally nobody gives a *baby cat* about. That is what your legs look like. You may not like it, but there is really very little you can do about it. I hate my knees, they're weirdly shaped and lopsided, but that's how they look. Worrying about them isn't going to magically make them change shape and nobody else in the world is going to care what my knees look like. So you know what, I instead focus on how boss my arms are looking right now instead.12 -

hehe glad about your arms...
but you would speak differently if you saw my legs believe me....its like there is spongy texture instead of regular skin....very lumpy and very lax:(((....looks a lot like skin of orange...also its jelly even though I weight train regularly...just frustrating...0
