Morning all.
Gentle run this morning that I decided to cut short half way through and did some yoga instead because my back and legs are hurting. Back is the worst. I'm glad I did the yoga, it always seems to help.
Well you've all seen our new kitty but here he is again with a cute 2.5 Yr old. We finally named him, Leo.

Loving all the cat pics. I grew up with cats but my husband is allergic to them and doesn't like dogs. So we have two rabbits, which I don't have photos of on my computer. One has been with us for 5 years now. He plays football. The other I got to keep him company, but they fight like cats so have to be kept apart. **sigh**
If it was up to my daughter our tiny apartment would be a zoo, absolutely any sort of animal except spiders, bees, wasps, flies or mosquitos she wants to bring home. She claims she's going to be a zoologist. I miss having cats, there's nothing more comforting than a warm purring bundle of fur snuggled on your lap IMO. I wish I had a dog to run with me. Don't think the rabbits would be able to keep up.

Another 2 miles this morning. I attempted a "speedy" mile; am curious how much the icy/snowy roads and ~15-20F temperatures affected my time. Still, 4 PR's on Strava: 1/2m, 1k, 1m, and 2mile. According to one online calculator, I need to drop that mile time by a minute to reach my minimum goal for my 12k in May. Time to buckle down and run!
Re: snowfall. We are currently in 4th place for the snowiest February on record, with more than 25" so far. The average February is 5". Our third snowiest Feb was in 1939 with 26.3"... and we're expected to get more snow through the weekend.
On our walk home after the 2 miles, I saw a MOOSE in a yard. And then I saw ITS MAMA lying in the snow. They both watched us walk past (on the other side of the street) and I'm actually surprised that my HR didn't shoot sky-high. Neither of them moved though, and my dogs didn't react, so that's probably why. I drove by again about an hour later on my way to work and only saw one. I didn't stick around long though I did snap one pic:

I ran at lunch again today. A pretty quick 3.11 miles. It was cooler than I thought it was going to be and windy and cloudy. I wasn't really looking forward to the run today. I'm feeling a little sore from my yoga yesterday and I'm so tired of the cold, cloudy weather and part of me just wanted to not do anything. But I got out there to do it and it turned out to be a really good run. I felt really great and was pretty speedy for me. It was pretty windy and I still managed to keep my over all pace under 10 min/mile. It was barely under lol, but still under. And I did a good job of getting back to work and not being extremely late. It was definitely one of those runs that just made me feel good.
I'm enjoying all the cat pictures. We don't have a cat anymore. Our daughter had one, but when she moved into her first apartment she took the cat with her. I love cats, but do not want to have to clean a cat box. We have two lazy dogs and we're fixing to be house sitting our son's dog for the next year. I'm not sure how they would feel about a cat anyway.

I've noticed on some articles they are jow part of a subscription. They are ones they send in emails but I never received anything about the new subscription stuff. It's very weird.

I am amazed at the snow pictures, more so that you all are getting out and are able to run in all of that!
@Avidkeo - your daughter is adorable and I love Leo's markings!!
@girlinahat - we had Guinea Pigs for years when my daughter was young. She got one that ended up being pregnant so we had lots of little babies. Our dog at the time (Lakeland Terrier) thought they were his babies and wanted to get in the box with them all the time and lick them.
@eleanorhawkins - my daughter was like yours. She was always rescuing something - dogs (we had 4), cats (we had 3), birds (1) in addition to all the lizards and others that she acquired or bought. She even did a science fair project with rats (teaching them things) and we had 52 of them in cages in our living room one Christmas. Honestly I loved them, they were so clean and so smart! She wanted to be a veterinarian but ended up becoming a pediatrician instead (still working with tiny things )
I did my intervals again today... My legs are still so sore from training on Tuesday with lots of squats and core work that I wasn't sure that I would finish my run. I did take it slow because my sore legs just couldn't give me any more. I am hoping to maybe increase my running interval next week.

I have a subscription to runners world and I still can't get to some of their articles. When I try my logon (which works directly on the RW site) it tells me there is no logon associated with my email. I am wondering if they are setting up for an online program or something but it isn't quite ready for prime time. Regardless it is very frustrating.0 -
Digging on all the kitty pics, here's minechilling in front of the fireplace
sylvia, my brother in law's
little man on the left is my wife's and mack on the right is mine
The cats were feral rescues, mom was killed by vehicle(not mine), and while they need their space I don't feel that they are any more needy than usual.
So went out intending to do 6 this morning at an easy pace. It was 41 degrees and misting rain with some lightning, about every 10-15 minutes, that was so far off that you couldn't hear the thunder. FF to almost at mile 3, rain has been getting steadily stronger and lightning has been getting more frequent, still not close about 10 secs(2miles) off by thunder. All of a sudden the sky lights up like someone had flipped on a spotlight for 5 seconds and less than 3 seconds later the thunder rolls through my body. OH *KITTEN*! Sprint to the closest covered area, sopping wet, nab my phone off it's carrier and call wife. I was finished. She was in town anyways and picked me up about 5 minutes later, dropping me off back at my car and the YMCA to shower and head to work. Get done with the shower and am ready to walk out the door, no rain whatsoever!13 -
3.0 more treadmill miles today. This has been a crazy week, and I'm going to have to push my long run to Sunday, but I'm proud of myself for managing to get most of my miles done anyway. Sorry I haven't been able to keep up with this thread much, but things should settle down a bit in a couple of weeks.
33.5/55.0 miles for February so far7 -
Good short run today. I still stand by the fact that I strongly dislike the treadmills in my school gym.

3.1 miles on the Wolf river greenway where they have STILL not rebuilt the bathrooms, after saying they would be done last September. We go back and check about every two months or so. Today they had the building up, the lights were on, the door was unlocked... and the water pump was hanging from a hoist out back behind the building, with a bunch of workmen standing around conspicuously doing nothing.
Rainy cold day, kind of pleasant - no wind, soft rain, not too chilly - saw a herd of deer quite near the road which is unusual for this park. We always run the last 400 m or so as a fast finish, and according to the gps were doing 7:15 pace for the last little partial split, which is good for us.
We have made friends with the owner of the gyros shop where we often eat after running, and today he sent us home with a box of free baklava scraps - he saves the odd-shaped edges which he trims off for his family and friends. So my after run snack is hot coffee and baklava.15 -

Me three!!!
So, weather here has been very white, wintery, temperatures keep having that pesky dash in front of them, and in general not conducive to running in a town with no sidewalks.
Fast forward to today, when I was having the sort of day at work where I probably have a hole clear thru my tongue from trying to be civil. (And I still didn’t stay very civil.)
I have learned that lifting out attitude is first of all not as effective as running out my attitude, and is much more likely to get me hurt. So, I went to one of the local PT offices that has been trying to figure out the access/liability/other issues associated with trying to have gym access. They are nowhere near ready for that, but I asked them very politely/desperately if I could use a treadmill today. They let me!!! And said so long as I am there when they are, and a patient doesn’t need it, I can do it again! And we would figure out a fee structure. Their hours are such that if I actually leave work on time, I could potentially make it 2-4 times a week. Which might actually be motivation to get my poo in a group during the day so that I don’t work late.
I soooo totally needed that today. So, 2.2 miles today, I think has me at 11.3/30 for the month. Probably won’t make goal, but I may get closer than it was looking like I would.11 -
P.S. - Strange question. Does anyone else find that leggings that work fine/ stay put while outdoor running, don’t on the treadmill or vice versa? Or am I the only weirdo whose form on the treadmill is so Abysmal that this problem is isolated to a sample size of one?0
-
Note to self, never borrow lip balm from @ariceroni!
I'm still running gentle 'reverse-taper' recovery runs, so mileage is being kept low and simple for now...may try to increase it a little next week maybe, we'll see.

Yes, I think your gait changes just enough that it causes bottoms to ride different. I have some that are horrible on the trail, but fine on the Tm.
