Less Alcohol - February 2019 - One Day at a Time

I always joke that I'm "sober curious". I focus a lot on cutting back and have mixed success. Was doing well at cutting back in the weeks leading up to my first marathon in Jan. Once that brutal training schedule was over and vacation came I was back into bad (and caloric!) habits. My biggest issue is on the days I do drink I tend to have too much, and then eat too much. Wine goes down way too easy! I just started tracking so who knows how many AF days this month, but I do know I'm on day 3 of what I hope to make a streak- who knows how long....7

@RMSchmidt17 that is a good beginning no matter what. I remember when I started to become aware of wanting less in my life. It was all I could do to get through one AF night followed by 6 days drinking. Excellent job!

I can’t seem to do these quotes properly, but thank you to those who responded to my last post! Very encouraging that we are all in the same boat.
Here’s a small victory- I wasn’t planning to drink until this weekend. Today I had just enough calories for a glass of wine, and thought “why not?” Instead , I decided to see if I was still peckish after dinner. Glad I didn’t drink the wine because now I can have some more food and still meet my calorie goal!
It is sooooo amazing how our drinks of choice go down so easily.
@Lilylady3k great idea about having some non alcoholic drinks in an opaque stemless wine glass! I love it.2 -

February 8 - AF, but was planning on some champagne in the bubble bath. I had such a nice dinner that I didn't have any calories left for champagne - heavy whipping cream chicken pesto with linguine. Lots of calories, but all within my range for the day.

Mulled wine at my house tomorrow, in between the snowmobile events, bands and fireworks. (We will be out standing in the snow, the streets are closed for the event). The mulled wine will simmer all day. Really looking forward to some wintery fun and the smell that my house will take on from the cinnamon and cloves, oranges, port and wine. I like that I have known about it for weeks and am happy to have racked up AF days this month. If I don't feel well Sunday morning I will just stay in bed.
February 16 - Mulled wine over the course of 8 hours. Kept it topped up every time we came back to my house out of the snow in between events. I actually am not sure how much I had. It was delicious. I don't mind having mulled wine once a year. There is a bunch left over though...
February 17 - 1/2 of a Caesar out at dinner, then 3 drinks later. Plus I ate a bunch of the strained oranges out of the leftover mulled wine lol. 2 glasses of that left, planning to drink them on Wednesday, put it in the fridge. It has been a really fun BC family day weekend. I do feel good to be moderating. I still feel like having drinks every day, but just don't anymore.

Ugh, colds are miserable. Feel better!
Your husbands suggestion brings back memories of my grandmother giving me a teaspoon of “Rock and Rye” when I was sick as a little girl. This was the 70’s. I remember sleeping afterwards, and it did help!
You’re probably much better off with chicken soup and cold medicine, especially since rum in your tea is counter to your AF goals!

Yay, @Lilylady3k !!!1

Thank you @Womona and @Orphia !!! It was a difficult decision last night. I appreciate your support. I'm not getting it at home. That bottle was suppose to be opened on Friday or Saturday night ... but nope ... it is all gone. DH opened & polished it off even though I asked for him not too. Some things are just not worth fighting ... I just had to stick to my own resolve. I cannot do it for others.6

Exactly. @Lilylady3k
Hugs. I know it's hard, but try to realise that he is fighting his own battle with alcohol in his own way. xx
You're awesome because you're at a great stage in your battle.
He may still be in the denial stage where any opposition makes you dig deeper because that's easier than taking what always looks like a huge first step.
It's not his fault, I don't think. Weren't we all like that? My husband quit 2 years before I did, and I didn't stop drinking around him though he'd told me it was hard for him.
Not trying to tell you how to run your marriage. Just some thoughts I've had thinking this through intently.3 -
@Orphia You are exactly correct. Twice this week he opened bottles when I asked for us to save them. Once I gave in on Tuesday but on Thursday I just did my own thing and let him do his. We are on different paths. We are both cutting back but in our own way and time. But I'm glad the journey started. Thanks for your understanding and support and the kind words.
