Success/Struggles: I've been feeling for a while that I need to change up my exercise routine but I haven't been able to be focused enough at 5am to try out something new on my own. So I decided to take a took a look at the class schedule at my gym and picked a few to try. Today was the first one, I took my first BodyPump class. I felt horribly uncoordinated but it's a friendly environment and I'm planning to push past that as I know that's something that will get better with practice and it seems like a class I'll enjoy once I'm past the awkward newbie stage.12 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: Ran 10 miles on Sunday. Running the same distance again tomorrow. One more long 12-mile run in a couple weeks, then time to rest up for my first half marathon of 2019. A good friend, whom I’ve inspired to run her own half (planned for September) will be there to cheer me on and to see what these events are really like. I’m very excited to introduce her to the world of racing.
In other news, my husband is really embracing calorie counting on MFP now. He won’t weigh food on a scale though, so he’s been having mixed results, understandably. However, he’s eating more pre-packaged foods instead of fast food lately, so that helps mitigate his less-than-accurate approach to using the tool. It’s so hard to bite my tongue and avoid giving advice, but I know where my opinion isn’t welcome at the moment. Weight loss and struggling can be such a personal thing.
Lastly, ran my fastest 3 mile training run in probably 2 years. My husband’s been pushing speed a little on my half marathon training plan the last few weeks because he knows I would love to beat my previous time on this course. 3 miles in 26:33 min. I’m darn proud of achieving that speed thanks to his influence. For context, my comfortable pace is 10:30-11 min mile middle of the pack runner.
Have a great week, everyone!13 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: Another consistent week. Still working on eating a few more calories. Exercise was toned down a bit, trying not to over do it with too many double days of exercise. Starting the month in the middle of my new range and my average for last month ended up being spot on. Whishing you all much success in your maintenance.

@erjones11, I continue viewing your progress reports and am amazed at your BW given your height. Your sharing has inspired me in my journey. Having "arrived" at goal BW recently, I had it in my mind that I'd be joining here this month but am going to wait another month to validate the permanency of me arriving.
Noticed your revised maintenance range and it's new breadth. I'm leaning towards a 5-lb. range and am currently close to its high side; hence, another month out for me.
Keep up the good work and thanks again to you, and others here, who share their maintenance experiences.9 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: I'm still working on having a little less of a rollercoaster of calorie intake across the week, but since the scale and other measures are maintaining trend there hasn't been as much motivation to buckle down in that regard. I've also found that being a creature of habit has helped in maintenance. I do love food and am an adventurous eater, but I'm also perfectly content having the same breakfast/lunch several days in a row. The consistency works well for maintenance, and it definitely makes logging a breeze.
On the exercise front, I was happy to have another consistent week and not miss a (non-rest) day. My goal is still gaining some muscle mass, and though progress is painfully slow, it has been very inspiring to see the many remarkable fitness goals many people here have reached. It's a nice prod for me to push myself more and consider better routes and routines to get where I'm going. It's just another reason I'm grateful that everyone shares their journey, good and bad.
Have a great week, everyone!

Things have been good weight wise despite two vacations and having company for a week in the past two months( my life is never this busy!). I think I might try to get a little closer the the bottom on my range and have to get back to no late night snacks. It isn’t showing in my weight yet but I know it’s a bad habit I don’t want to get back into.
Would like to add a little more workouts to my routine but this winter has me hibernating. Time to find my motivation!

Successes/struggles: weight is up for unknown reasons this weigh-in. And for a change it’s not actually bothering me because I know for sure it can’t be true fat gain and everything else (measurements, clothes etc) is holding steady. So maybe that is a success for the week - I’m not freaking out! Have done really well with exercise again and managed to stay on track despite having both my kids sick with viruses this week. So, all in all, not a bad week. Would like that weight to be down nearer the low end of my range but def not sweating it.
Have a great week all x9 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week:My weight is up today which I knew it would be. Had a very late dinner last night and up very early this am. Thanks to MFP family I know this is mostly water and food waste still not processed. I have been 130 or so all week, if I was only weighing once a week I would be devastated thinking I gained. My weight was down overall for the month of Feb so all is good.9 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week:
Successes:
Stayed within maintenance range on my weight. Made my fitness goals. Yoga twice a week and 150 minutes cardio with the stationary bike. Meditated every day. Not snacking at work is now a fully ingrained habit. I told my coworker the other day and said I appreciated that she didn’t ask me if I wanted any of her popcorn. She said “I did ask you but you said no like you always do so I didn’t ask again.” 😀 The habit is so strong now that I didn’t even remember her asking me! And popcorn is my favorite snack!
Challenges
Still had a few setbacks with secret snacking after dinner. But yesterday I threw away the chips that nobody else in the house was eating. And I put the chocolate in my daughter’s bedroom. This was inspired by the book Switch which I highly recommend. The book is about how to successfully change both as an individual and group behavior.
I don’t know if this qualifies as a success or challenge but I started and ended the month of February at 129. This is securely within my maintenance goal. I feel great. It’s a healthy BMI. But it’s still hard to feel happy about not losing any more weight. Maintenance is such a tough transition mentally and emotionally!

Success: After a week out of town visiting family, it is great to be back home and back to my normal routine. While I 'gained' a pound or two while I was gone, getting back into the maintenance routine has been easy. It is wonderful that a 'bad' day or two no longer turns into a week or a month (or more) of poor eating habits!
Struggle: I actually did pretty well during most of the time I was gone. My struggle was with the two travel days. Both days were very long with minimal exercise and a lot of doing nothing (which I find stressful). Long days when I get overly tired and overly hungry tend to be a major trigger (whether or not I am traveling). Fortunately, they don't happen often so I just try to accept them for what they are, focus on getting caught up on rest, and get back into my normal routine as quickly as possible. Hoping to be back under 135 by my next weigh in on 3/10.

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: Right now, my middle child (3) vomited all yesterday afternoon. My youngest
(18m) has had a fever since the same time. My oldest has started acting off today too. It's going to be a long weekend. And I can't go to the gym, because the kids are sick and can't go to childcare and my husband is working all day. Maybe I can get up super early and go tomorrow before my husband goes to work. That said, I only got 2 hours sleep last night, so maybe not.9 -
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/profile/usercard/47402296 I feel your pain! Have my three nephew staying with us this week and between them and my own two boys, 4 have been vomiting since yesterday! I’m hoping the baby doesn’t get it and little to no sleep last night didn’t kill my seemingly endless hunger this week. We all missed out on our ski trip today so fingers crossed for a quick recovery on your end and mine so the rest of March break goes off without a hitch! stay healthy momma!6

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: Good week for me. Struggling with an IT band issue, but didn’t let it stop me. Instead of running 10 miles as planned on Sunday for half marathon training, I pulled out the old “brick training” from my triathlon days - 5 miles biking, 3 miles running x 3 for a total of 15 miles biking and 9 miles of running. Then walked the dogs a mile before the snow started. Definitely was easier on my hip than running 10 miles straight; bonus that it built my endurance up more. Picked up some new stretches that seem to be helping. Hopefully, I can tackle that 12 miler next Sunday with no issues. Glass half full mentality.
Otherwise, just taking life one day at a time.
Have a great week, everyone!8 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: My weight was up this week, but that was expected as I went out for a high-sodium meal mid-week and am still retaining quite a bit of water weight now. I'm about a little over a week away from being one year in maintenance (officially) now, and I'm planning to use a different approach to maintenance than I've been using previously. I've always looked at calories from a weekly perspective using calorie cycling (I use TDEE)- having one or two low days during the week and two high days on the weekend to indulge in desserts or to eat out for one or two meals. This has worked well during both weight loss and maintenance for a typical week for me, and works pretty well if I'm on a long weekend vacation and eating out, as I typically will be significantly more active and will eat back extra exercise calories while on vacation. For a vacation of a week or longer, where I'm eating out 3+ times/day for several days, it's still been doable, though a bit more of a struggle, as I either have to be super active to get extra calories, or have a few very low calorie days (1200-1300) to balance out the rest.
My new approach is going to be viewing calories by a couple of weeks at a time, or maybe even on a monthly basis, particularly if I've got a vacation coming up for which I want to eat anything and everything. Since there are some weeks where I don't eat out at all, I can eat at a slight deficit those weeks (without really even noticing) and then bank those calories for an upcoming vacation week to start out with a surplus of base calories to work with. That way, I can eat/drink everything while on vacation without needing to budget in super low calorie days, and then I can use any extra calories from hiking/etc. for extra treats while on vacation. Or for a really fancy high-calorie meal out on a weekend. I'll see how this approach works, but it just made sense to me to eat at a tiny deficit (tiny enough that it's not really noticeable) for a couple of weeks, and then can relax a bit more while on vacation.
I've started to do this already, as I'll be on a 4-day vacation over next weekend. I've eaten at a very tiny deficit over the past three weeks and banked about 1000 calories for the vacation (~330ish calorie deficit each week), so about ~250 extra calories for each of the vacation days. In reality, I'm spreading those calories out a bit over next week and the following week, so it'll be a bit less than that, but my lowest calorie day for the upcoming week will be 1450 v. 1200-1300 that it'd normally be, and my vacation days' base calories will be 2400-2600. I'm anticipating that I'll eat/drink more than that, but I'll easily get an extra couple hundred calories on those days by walking without having to worry about doing a ton of walking like I normally would.7 -

Success(es)/struggle(s) of the week: You know you might not be hitting your calorie targets when you have a Night of Hedonistic Abandon and still end up below maintenance range the next day. There are, of course, worse problems to have. Still, Iosing weight is likely making recomp more difficult, so I'm going to try to be more vigilant.
On a no doubt related note, things have stalled a bit on the exercise front. Little progress in lifting, but I'm hanging in there and didn't miss any exercise days. Some NSV have buoyed my spirits, though, so all in all life is good!
Have a great week, everyone!7 -

I am pretty new to calorie cycling. A couple of questions for you. When you cycle your calories, do you run a deficit from Net calories? Will you use a spreadsheet for a bi-weekly/monthly calorie "bank" or MFP offers this option and I'm not seeing it.
