Celiac diagnoses was historically determined by a gut biopsy. Not a really big deal but uncomfortable and inconvenient for sure. If there was an easier, but medically reliable way to find out I think a lot of people would.
When I did my hospital clinicals 13 years ago, I was assigned to colonoscopies for a week. A scalloped appearance on the intestinal wall, according to the Dr. I was observing, is indicative of celiac but without a punch biopsy it wasn't conclusive. I saw it on the monitor. It was interesting. The patient with the scalloped intestinal lining had come in with classic leaky gut symptoms.2 -
