I bought biscuits. I ate some biscuits. I ate some more biscuits. I went over my calorie goal, but that's OK, I'm still within maintenance... just another custard creme... ooh, and I'll just tidy up that last mini creme egg... and a bit of that really good dark chocolate... I went over maintenance... my stomach was starting to feel like a sucking black hole, so 'hungry' it was painful, I was clearly entering hideous binge eating territory...
...reader, I stopped eating. I informed myself that if I couldn't control myself around biscuits I would throw away the rest of the tin and never buy any more, and apparently I believed that I was serious (I was).
Ten minutes later I wasn't 'hungry' anymore, but I realised I was dead tired and went to bed. Over my calories by 500; but not by 3,500. I entered binge mode and I got out of it again. And you wouldn't believe how important it is to me right now to know that I can do that59 -
Are you able to drink water when you feel like that?1
-
I can drink water or tea until I slosh, but why people keep advising it is beyond a mystery to me. It does precisely nothing to affect the 'hunger', especially as that kind of craving is almost entirely non-physical to start with.13
-
Hmmm that's interesting. Water satisfies me for a while you know. I understand why it may not work for you as everyone's body is different.......A few days ago I went over my calories about 600. It's because I put too much stuff on a salad....lol you should have seen that salad....I thought I was doing something good. But we learn from our mistakes..11

I consider this an NSV in my case. I have logged in successfully for 21 days! YaY!21

However, if you can definitely feel the difference between food and water, drinking water isn't going to help you!

We start running into each other at the gym and next thing you know, we're working out together. Two weeks ago, while spotting each other, I mention casually that if he wants help with his school work, I'll tutor him, but only if he will work as hard in tutoring as he does in the weight room.
He has taken me up on it and has come to my classroom 11 consecutive days for tutoring. And he's working at it. Report from his other teachers is they are beginning too see a real turn around in him.
Too early to tell if it will stick but I feel I'm on the verge of a significant non-scale victory BECAUSE of my efforts to live a healthier life.
Related, just today, he mentioned to another kid that we work out together in the gym. The kid said, and I quote, "That explains why Mr. Morgan is looking skinnier."

Yeah, I perhaps overreact a bit when people suggest it to me these days, because people have been suggesting it to me regularly since I was about seven years old. It's so well known that people apparently thinking I might not have considered it gets increasingly irritating
...what would be useful is if anyone had ever suggested that maybe I am more likely to get binge cravings when I'm tired, and that maybe I should try just lying down and turning the light out. But nobody ever has. Which is a pity, since that is the actual problem maybe 75% of the time.18 -
@ceiswyn how about laying down..... You MIGHT just be tired.....😁9

The water thing is like everything else though- if it's an insight you've only recently realised about yourself, you mention it to others!
On the plus side, you've been useful to me? My sensory mismatches are many and legendary, and I'm wondering if I could be doing that myself. I already know that a poor night's sleep sees me supporting myself through the afternoon with food, and now you've put it like that, I'm wondering how much late-night munching I could eliminate by just giving in and going to bed. Now I've had this revelation, I will be on lots of threads anout hunger pangs, recommending that they give up on the stuff they were trying to complete before bed, and just go to bed now!

You are NOT WRONG
I am waiting patiently for the NSV that will be 'I got up at 5.15am, did my 7.30 BodyPump class, went on to work, and didn't feel like dying by 3pm with three hours still to go'. Though I fear that one may still be a fair way off! And I am trying not to think about the fact that the work kitchen is currently full of cake...9 -

I'm glad I may have been helpful! Really, I should have realised that one about myself long ago, since one of my more famous sensory mismatches is that I can't tell when I'm tired.
(One of my exes had a simple rule of 'if ceiswyn is being snappy and unreasonable, lure her onto a comfortable surface somewhere quiet, make an excuse to leave the room, and wait for her to fall asleep'. But ten years later, I was still getting overemotional late at night and then staying up even later to try to talk through the 'problem'... *facepalm*)9 -

You just made me cry. Thank you for the guidance - you are changing this young man's life10 -
YES!!!
Finally achieved my goal: ==>>> 8 pull-ups!!!
It's taken me over 11 months to go from 7 pull-ups to finally this 8th pull-up!!!
I can't find my notes right now, but I'm guessing it's taken me almost 3 years to go from 1 to 8 pull-ups.
Gotta stick with it!!!
Well this makes me feel better. I'm trying to get my chinups to 5, but I can still only do one pullup. I've only been trying for a couple months though.8 -
I went to the doctor yesterday and had my lowest doctor's office BP ever. 111/70. Made me super happy.22

A little background: Mostly, I walk, for exercise. 3-4 miles with dog in good weather, and treadmill in winter b/c roads are snow/ice covered in Wisconsin (US). I also walk in 5 / 10K races a lot (next is 10K 3/30/19). Know I need to include strength training (used to), so this winter I started to x-train with hand weights, hubby's weight machine & home-version of beginner's circuit training (googled this).
NSV: This morning I finished a basement session on the weights & circuit before work and I feel like I'm getting stronger. Sets are not as hard & I've increased reps. Next will be to increase weights. My balance is improving & I can see muscle definition starting in my upper arms. Wowie!!! Btw I'm 61 yo.21 -
Forgot to enter this nsv last week: at my annual physical my BP was 112/80 and resting HR 56. 56!!! No white coat syndrome this time.16

I entered binge mode and I got out of it again. And you wouldn't believe how important it is to me right now to know that I can do that
This struck a chord with me. Recently caught myself headed for a chocolate binge - and stopped - without thinking too much about it. Reading your post made me realize that my self control has improved. Thanks for sharing your insight.

Since I have lost weight and started to walk/run on the treadmill I have way more energy and ambition. I do a lot of cleaning now. I actually enjoy it. Go figure. Sweeping, mopping, washing dishes, and cooking are enjoyable.
I never did like doing laundry and I still hate to fold cloths. My wife doesn't seem to mind me helping.15 -
got aggravated yesterday and did not binge eat. Told myself food wont help, love myself, if I eat I will be aggravated and fat so better to just be aggravated, it will pass. Biggie for emotional eater.21

My calves and thighs are stretching out the seams in my skinny jeans. I’ve been strength training for the past year and I thought there wasn’t a huge change to how I look over all but because of how tight my jeans are in some places I’ve noticed a lot more muscle definition in my quads and calves.16

Giving away the pants that dont fit me anymore19

This morning I slept in instead of going for my walk/jog. Seems like a bizarre nsv hey? But the nsv is that I listened to my body this morning when it was telling me it needed a bit longer to sleep and I don't feel one little bit guilty or like I have messed up and now I'm going to fall off the wagon completely. Nope, I know it was a needed rest morning and that tomorrow morning I'll be right back into it.18

Swam every day for 6 days, even when i feel i dont want to, i make my self go and feel better after x11

I need to improve my swimming to do a triathlon this summer. I showed up at a masters swimming practice, and the instructor told me to get in the water and float. My legs kept sinking, and he said: "you runners never have enough fat to float!" My swimming sucks, but I'm not fat, so I have that going for me...16

Good for you, rest is important too, well done for listening to your body4 -
My wedding rings are getting loose and I need to constantly keep turning them back into place!11

Talked to a new trainer today. He got me started on an actual weight lifting regimen. My body is so sore right now, but I'm so proud of that pain. I know I'm doing what I need to do to become healthy again. BTW, I never realized just how long 30 seconds can be when I'm "planking". Ugh. Looking forward to the day when a full minute plank is doable.12

That is incredible! I’m a teacher too so I know how tough it is to get through to a difficult kid! It’s also inspiring to see how your healthy life choices are having an effect on other areas of your life. You go!5
