Just a 30-minute ride for me for 8/23. Not much energy left after an hour of Zumba.

Welcome, johnwhitent! We try to be equal opportunity so if you don't ride every day because you are training for a tri or something, we'll count the run or swim.

skywalker, rest is important and a rest day can include a 30 minute EASY SPIN. It's good for your legs and gets the lactic acid out, supposedly.

    So:

Thanks for welcoming me in! I did a short, easy 34 minute ride as the sun was coming up this morning (8/24) alongside a beautiful mist enshrouded river for the entire ride (an out and back.) I’m enjoying my taper/recovery week since I can pay more attention to the beautiful surroundings here in rural NE Georgia. I managed to average a little over 16 with virtually no effort due to the flat topography - a nice break from my normal hilly rides. Life is good!

    So far I have ridden or run on 8/20, 8/21, 8/22, 8/23, 8/24.
Do I need to include a summary like this with each post or only the current days activity? I'll do whatever is most convenient for you.

And lastly, do the smilely face's in your participant summary each represent something or is this just your own little extra?

good to know... I must have missed that somehow.

yes... if you're training or just pushing yourself more than usual, an easy exercise is good... it keeps the muscles loose while still giving them s chance to recover. that's exactly what I did last night.

Got my 30 minutes in today by going the long way around to the gym. What's up with all the wind lately? Wind, earthquakes, everything is wonky.

You can include whatever you want. We, of course, are just interested in tracking whether you did or did not bike (or whatever) for at least 30 minutes on a given day (that's what my post is tracking).

The smiley faces don't mean much, it just livens it up and I put the yawning one on rest days. :o) I'm weird like that.

LONG day today but I did get 20 miles in. Tomorrow will probably be the 30 minute spin at 530 am since I teach at 8am and it's too blooming dark for a decent ride that early.

I just learned about this challenge from my buddy johnwhitent and want in. I'm very new to cycling but I'm getting addicted fast. I was camping last weekend so got in a lot of non-biking activity. I'm hoping to get credit. I'm commited to biking the remainder of the challenge.

8/20 - swimming, kayaking and hiking for 4 hrs
    8/21 - hiking for 2 hrs
8/22 - 40 min SLOW bike ride with 6yo son
    8/23 - biking for 43 min, 11.4 miles
    8/24 - biking for 83 min, 20.7 miles
  • Please add me in. On 8/20 I didn't bike (I did treadmill for 22 minutes) so I will take 8/20 as 'rest'.

My Stationary bike times on the other dates so far are:

    8/21 40 minutes
    8/22 60 minutes
    8/23 60 minutes
    8/24 60 minutes

I log my time so these are accurate.

Thursday 8/25 did a 35 minute easy trail run. I took my dogs with me since I run out in the middle of nowhere and never see a person. It's great to see them run, play, and swim in the river. Life is still good!

Oh, and I know this is a Vuelta thread, but how about Big George winning the stage in CO yesterday and Tejay taking the overall lead! Americans now have the top 5 on the GC even with Cadel Evans and the Schleck brothers participating. Very exciting!
  • Thursday 8/15 - Stationary bike - for 60 minutes for 15.2 miles. Gotta hit the shower and head to work....

Got my 30 minutes in this morning, once again by taking long ways around during errands. All grey and misty and quiet, it was the perfect time to be out for just a bit.

Got 40 minutes in tonight just riding around town. I am feeling overwhelmed with everything going on right now-work is falling apart and the repairs have started on my house from the July storm damage so I am living in chaos!

Friday 8/26: 65 minute mountain bike ride. They built a new purpose built exclusive mtb trail just 35 minutes from my front door. Oh happy day!

Thanks again for this challenge, Octo! I'm stuck in grading hell at the moment, but getting away for a short break since I HAVE to keep my 30 minute cycling promise!

No bikes for me tomorrow, though, since I'm running a 5k race. But that, with warm-ups and stretching and all, will net me 30 minutes for tomorrow. Then it's back to the bike on Sunday.

I rode for 170 minutes today; 29.5 miles. The worst part was climbing from sea level up 775 feet. But, I survived. Good to see everyone else is having safe and good rides.

Hope everyone doesn't get hit by Irene, and stays safe out there...
