I have been "maintaining" for about six months even though I still have a little left to lose to get to the place I want to be. It absolutely takes effort. It absolutely makes me question, again, the range I set for myself to consider my maintenance range. For example, I just lost the SAME two pounds I lost three days ago. And ten days ago. And two weeks ago.... Good news is my ten-day average, my two-week trend, and my four week trend are all at least slightly down, or at least flat. That's maintenance, right?
The three month trend looks like an elevation profile of a hike over a couple of mountains, and I'm over the peak and on the way down even if still 300 feet (three pounds) up from where I started. The six month trend looks kind of like the three month trend, but it just started a little higher, and I'm only 200 feet above the trailhead. That's STILL maintenance!
The one year trend is really interesting. Pretty steady decrease until mid August. After that, it's been up in down from mid August to the end of November where it was back where it was in mid August, then a couple other little deviations up and ultimately back down. Another interesting bit; since mid August, my trending weight has consistently and without any exception been within a five-pound range centered about five pounds over my ultimate goal weight. I've been in what looks like classic maintenance, but it's just a little heavier than my goal range. That trend since July sure looks like maintenance.
I have been questioning my ultimate goal range since I set it. It's lower than my initial goal range, and maybe my first guess was right, because I'm pretty much there. So, am I going to revise my goals up to meet what I look like I'm achieving? Well, no. Not yet anyway. I still think I can get to where I want and maintain there. Do I consider myself in maintenance already? Yes I do. Do I still want to get to my goal and maintain THERE? Does a one-legged duck swim in a circle?

Hi to my running thread buddies @ddmom0811 and @Orphia and congrats on your losses and maintaining them so well. I'm coming up on 2 years maintaining about a 60 lb loss also.
I agree with the part time job comments - between running, strength training, yoga, and walking - well I wish I got paid for all those hours! But this is what is working for me right now to be strong and fit, and to be able to eat enough where I'm not miserable.

I may not get paid big bucks, but people that are paid big bucks don't have the time to be so happy, fit, and healthy like we are.
They have to pay big bucks for fancy hotels and spas that spread the myth that throwing money at something fixes everything.6 -

Depends on how you define big bucks really. I work full time in a well paid job and I am glad to note that i am happy fit and healthy plus maintaining. I should also add that I am due to go on a 5 week holiday soon.

I had my weight off 5 years,40 lbs, dont get complacent like I did, I gained 25 lbs last year. Got the flu, scales got off 10 lbs, thought I was 10 lbs heavier and was 20 lbs up, so got mad , gained another 5. Depressing year, after the flu and adult children stress, I couldn't stop eating. Got straight in July and lost it again, thank goodness! This time I looked at the emotional side of eating, like what was eating me?11

How are all the fantastic maintainers doing?! Hopefully all is well and good I had to go through a minor medical procedure in February so I had to take 3 weeks off of exercise and have not watched my portions at all under the excuse that I was in healing mode I think I gained a couple of pounds (hard to tell with the water retention I’m still experiencing) so I’m committed to do 4 weeks of calorie counting and daily exercise of at least 1 hour (even if it’s just walking) to lose a couple of pounds and tone up a bit. So far so good... 1week down, 3 more to go! 😅3

I lent my food scale to a family whose kid was doing a science fair project that required mass measurements. My eyeballing is for *kitten* but I figured I'd try anyway. After a month they still had my damn food scale and I started to feel a little fluffy (I don't weigh. I just go but clothes-fit) so I bought another scale and I'm working on getting the fluff off. Shouldn't take long. But I'm still pissed off about it.11

Was nice to go out last night and eat what I wanted, wings, beer, sweet potato fries and I even split a desert with a friend. I didn’t over eat more than I was hungry for, ate a salad for lunch knowing I wanted to go out for dinner. It’s not an all the time thing and I’m glad for that but was genuinely nice to finally NOT feel guilty for eating.
Having the knowledge to make it fit in my weekly calories and not be the beginning of a spiral downhill.
To trust myself that I finally have this under control is a big thing for me.8 -

I had that experience a couple weeks ago after I went to a museum in another city, we stopped on the way back in yet another city for what someone had heard was great pizza. It WAS great. I ate all I wanted. My scale weight went up, as expected. It didn't cause any consternation. Yay!8 -
Just finished my fifth ninth of maintenance. By maintenance I mean that I have stayed under my goal weight.4

I've been at maintenance since just before the 2018 holidays. I'm thinking about trying Crossfit, and the trainer asked me (on the phone) what my goals are. I said "I'm okay with my weight..." and thought how friggin' magical that is! I am OKAY WITH MY WEIGHT. I don't think I was ever okay with my weight in my first 45 years of life.
I would like to be stronger and have more endurance, but heck yeah, I'm okay with my weight.14 -

After years of yo-yo...I hit maintenance and stayed there for 16 weeks in 2014...and then fell right off thinking I could just lose it again quickly...roller coaster of up and down.
FF> to end of 2018 and was looking at my 50th Bday coming up in March so my mantra became "Fit at Fifty" and hit maintenance range for my Bday...what a gift.
Maintenance range is +/- 5 from Target goal. As long as I'm in Range, I'm good...yet heading to Target and add a buffer to that...
Feels good to buy clothes in sizes that I can find anywhere....and donated my larger clothes since I don't want a backup plan.
Each day is an opportunity for success..let's do this!

I also had promised myself to lose the excess weight by my bday (10 months away at the time) and it gave me something concrete to work towards and was that much more rewarding when I was able to do it 😃

I've been maintaining within a 5 lb range for a year now, and loving it! Last night went to Red Robin for first time in over 2 years, had a grilled chicken sandwich instead of burger, and side salad instead of bottomless fries. Still way too much sodium, but only up .6 lbs this morning. 😁4

Hello to all you wonderful maintainers!!! Hope so far that 2020 is treating you kindly! As for myself, it’s time to get serious! I need to drop 4 or 5 pounds I’ve been holding on to since the beginning of winter the plan is to eat about 11,200 calories WEEKLY plus ALL exercise calories. No food is off limits but going to try to up my intake of vegetables and lean meats. Also upping my activity level by taking short but more frequent walks in addition to my regular running throughout the week. Looking forward to summer and getting ready for bikini season!

My goal is to just keep doing what I'm doing and not gain back what I lost in 2018. I would actually like to drop exactly one more pound, but it's just a mental thing. I'm pleased with the fluctuations getting smaller and smaller as time goes by.
