You sound like me right now. I keep telling myself "Do not try to PR at the Marathon, your PR target is the 50k that is only six days later."
I do not think I am listening well though.
@PastorVincent did you not read the part about us having sticks and knowing how to find people? Listen, man!

@7Lenny7- I have not tried it but a gentleman was recently asking about it on the LDR group forum. He was using it for a torn meniscus. You might want to search around for that thread. My husband was interested, so please let me know if you find it to be helpful. Also, congrats on your 50 miler. It took guts just to show up given what you have had to deal with recently. I am looking forward to the report.4

Does anyone here use CBD oil or cream, whether it be for running related reasons or anything else? What do you use it for, and how do you use it?
After my race Saturday I was a hurtin' pup. My sister gave me some of her CBD cream to use and while my pain did subside quicker than I expected, I'm not willing to give any credit to CBD. I am, however, intrigued enough to explore the substance further. I bought some of my own Tuesday and applied it to one of my still painful quads as a test and it didn't seem to help it recover any faster than the untreated quad. The product I bought, however, has a low concentration.
I tend to ignore "miracle cures" but for some reason, I want to find out more about this.
I haven’t tried it. It’s still a no-no if you are subject to random drug screenings as it can/will have enough THC to pop on a test. I have heard a lot thorough the grapevine that it helps.

Yay @avidkeo, although I don't envy you moving to New Plymouth at the start of winter - it'll be a bit of a shock to your subtropical Northland system! I see new running layers in your future!!3

Well, I said earlier I was gonna do 3 miles and I did13

It helps if you can find a pace group that Meb is pacing. Then you'll want to hang with him for most of the race to listen to what he has to say. Anyway, that worked for me at the Shamrock Half. Didn't PR, didn't win the age group, finished in great shape.
I could have run fast enough to win the age group, but I still would have come down with the stress fracture. Then I'd be beating myself up for doing something stupid. As it stands, no regrets. I did everything right, and the stress fracture happened anyway. Just have to move forward, at whatever pace I can.10 -
Congrats @avidkeo on your official job offer! And best of luck selling the house quickly and without too much stress.
Welcome to the newest newcomers.
@brittanystebbins95 good work making your posted mileage come true! Nice job.
@MobyCarp glad you are being smart in your recovery, and setting a good example for the rest of us. Hope certain someones take heed and don't need to be beaten with sticks.
Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative

05/02/19 :::: 3.5 :::: 7.5
After work I dressed for a run before taking the dog out for her walk - and she was moving along nicely so I decided to try running with her again. It started out moderately successfully, but she started to really drag in the second mile. She just doesn't enjoy being "forced" to run, even if she is normally pulling me along at a plenty fast pace. We made it 2 miles before I gave up and let her walk and sniff until we got home. Then I put her in the house and finished 1.5 miles by myself. She was all mad about that too. There's no pleasing this dog.
I'm going to edit this to add a couple of Spartan photos I just got. The sandbag carry one I was feeling pretty beaten down at that point so not surprisingly it kinda looks like I'm going to cry. The fire jump was at the very end - I guess I really gave that one my all14 -

Having done a Spartan I know that face well! But you DID IT. You beat the course despite its best efforts.2 -
@lporter229 Yes, we will come after you with a stick, but, as others have pointed out, you would probably just outrun us. LOL Good luck with just enjoying the experience and not going out too hard.
@kgirlhart Hope you get good news from the doctor.5 -
May Running
5/01: 4.01 mile easy run
5/02: 3.65 mile easy run
Total: 7.66 miles
Will hopefully have time to post a longer update tomorrow!6 -
5 miles walking, 30 minutes intervals stationary bike. Ankle is still not up to running, but can walk comfortably now without needing my ankle support thingy or heel cups. Which is good because walking with the heel cups was making my hamstrings really sore! Has anyone else noticed a similar problem with high drop shoes?
I sent my husband out running after we got home from walking. Just because I can’t run doesn’t mean he needs to lose his fitness too. He was reluctant to go because he didn’t want to make me too jealous. So I kicked him out the door.
Slept poorly for the past three nights due to AC being dead and temperature in the house being in the low 80s. The repair guy may or may not be able to replace it tomorrow depending on whether the stuff he needs comes in. BUT! A miracle happened! There are kind people in the world! My husband mentioned to our friend at the gyro shop that the AC was dead and he sent us home with two massive industrial window ACs to tide us over. He just replaced all the ones in the shop and is planning on selling these. Would not hear of taking money from us. I am basking in the cool air with my hair blowing in the breeze!

I had an hour long talk with my daughter today. A couple of months ago she told me she wanted to run a HM. She's run a few 5K's and was running 12 to 15 miles a week at the time. She said I inspired her and she wanted to see if she could do it. Well of course she can! I created a training plan for her and have been giving her advice and offering encouragement from time to time. The race is this Sunday in Independence, MO and she was wound up with anxiety, doubt and many legit questions about every facet of racing, from prep in the days prior to recovery after. I was very impressed with the questions she came up with. After an hour on the phone I think we worked through everything and she's feeling much more confident.
She initially wanted me to do it with her, which I'd love to do, but with a big race the week prior I didn't think I'd be up to the task. I also have work to do this weekend which I can't avoid so I can't even drive down to support her, but I'll be with her in spirit. Thankfully my wife has the time to go and surprise her. I can't wait to hear how it goes. She said she ran her last long run of 11 miles in 1:50, so I'm expecting her to finish in 2:05 or so, though her goal is 2:15 to 2:30.
That's not the only racer I'll be watching this weekend. A girl who grew up next door is running in a 10K Saturday, her first race. I also have been mentoring her and created her training plan.
I say "girl", but both are 23 years old.

So New Balance have discontinued my new favourite shoe and they are no longer available in New Zealand or Australia (the two countries that love the shoe according to the NB guy here), but they are still available in the States (where they don't like them so they have loads left). You think they'd just send them over to where they want them, but no. So while I get to buy them on sale from NB USA, I have to spend a fortune on shipping (and of course it's not straightforward as they won't ship to an international address so I have to have them shipped to my aunt in Tucson (for free) who will then forward them to me (for the aforementioned exorbitant shipping)). To make it worthwhile I bought two pairs! Now to see how many weeks/months it takes for them to arrive...9

@7lenny7 - I have looked at CBD oil, not for me but for Hobbes the Vizsla. It is highly recommended in the holistic treatment areas for mast cell cancers and others. My brother who is disabled and has chronic pain uses it and swears by it. He also gave me some pointers when buying it and basically said to do your homework because there are a lot of rip offs and what you get is not a concentration that will do anything. It seems to be pretty expensive everywhere but I have heard so many good things about it from reputable people in the scientific community. Apparently it was used for 100's of years as a treatment for all kinds of things before it was made illegal.
Also very cool for your daughter and neighbor friend - I wish them luck in their races! I bet your daughter will have a blast!
@katharmonic - you are a bad *kitten*! Awesome pictures!
@ContraryMaryMary - I had a similar experience in reverse... The Skora shoes I love were no longer available here but I found them in a Tri store in Dubai. I emailed them and they sent them to me and comped the postage! I wish I would have ordered 2 pairs at the time but I was being cautious. When I tried to order another pair they were all gone2 -
ContraryMaryMary wrote: »Yay @avidkeo, although I don't envy you moving to New Plymouth at the start of winter - it'll be a bit of a shock to your subtropical Northland system! I see new running layers in your future!!
LOL yeah already seeing they are on average 4 degrees colder. So so glad I got my sleeves hahaha. I see gloves in my future, perhaps a mother's day gift4 -
@7lenny7 cbd oil is unregulated so there is no way to know what's actually in th oil. It could be pure CBD, it could be a mix that has THC, it could even just be olive oil.
Most researchers are on the fence. There seems to evidence that it helps epilepsy, but everything else seems to be just placebo - which is fine, cause it works if you think it will work haha.
As you used it as a cream, is possible the massage actually helped more than the oil - its a bit like arnica cream bringing out a bruise, it's actually the effect of rubbing in the arnica that brings it out.
But take my thoughts with a grain of salt if you want, I'm a bit of a sceptic at heart and prefer to follow the science than anecdotes.2 -
Can't not share this, especially after having my knots dealt with yesterday lol6

Finished off another 4 mile run last night before racing off to baseball practice for both of my sons. May goal: 60 miles. May 1st: 4 miles. May 2nd: 4 miles. A busy weekend is upon me, but going to try to squeeze in a couple of light runs.6

Tonight is the expo for the Pittsburgh Marathon. Are any MFP'ers going to be there? I know a couple of you are running. My wife and I are planning to be there around 5pm. Might drag my 15 year old along. He is over 6 foot now so he is good for looking over people and finding things.
I am hoping to find those thingies that let you wear a bib without pins. Do not know what they are called or who makes them so it probably is a futile hope, but without hope, what do you have?4 -
@rheddmobile So glad you were able to get AC relief. It's so hard to sleep when it is hot! Glad you were able to kick your husband out of the house for a run too. But, it is sweet of him not to run if you can't.
@7lenny7 That is so great that you are inspiring a whole new generation to run. Good luck to your young ladies this weekend. Glad your wife is going to get to surprise your daughter.

@PastorVincent
The magnets are called bib dots, or something like that. I don't know anyone who uses them, a couple runners said they can fall off.
I use a bib belt, which works well for races short enough that I don't also need a hydration belt. Mine is made by Nathan, but I've also seen a guy who has a combination SPI belt/bib belt. IIRC, mine cost something like $8 or $10 a couple years ago.

Hmmm, will look for them at the Expo and see how they look. I am still undecided if I am going to wear my Wunjo, my Nathan hydration belt, or nothing. There are plenty of water stops, but I crashed and burned hard in my first marathon because I got in a haze and missed all the water stops between mile 20 and 26.
Right now weather is 50s F and rain, but there is still time for that to change yet.1 -

I can't see them on the US version of their website, but Decathlon here do a shirt with a plastic pocket for your bib. They seem pretty popular over here...1 -

Cool idea, but then I have to wear just that shirt. I was looking for a bit more flexibility than that.0 -
What a great story about an amazing success:
http://www.runnersworld.com/news/a27346203/pittsburgh-marathon-director-steps-down
I can not believe that TWENTY percent of runners on average pick up their race bag (shirt, bib, etc) and then do not race. I mean I could have guessed that fewer people start than sign up, but I would have thought a much higher percentage of people that made it all the way to packet pickup would show up race morning, pending weather.0 -
5-1 injury idle
5-2 rest
5-3 injury idle
May Total: 0k
May Goal: 100k
January Total: 131k
February Total: 159.5k
March Total: 183k
April Total: 126k
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
Really having difficulty being patient and waiting to heal. Walked an additional 3k yesterday, so of course my back was howling last evening. May go out and just amble around today. The first group of radishes I planted in April look like they're almost ready for harvest.
2019 Races:
4-13 Shine the Light 5K - 31:12 chip time; First Place male 65 and older
6-1 Freedom 5K (Will be off the schedule due to another commitment)
6-30 Strides for Starfish 5K6 -
@7Lenny7- Good luck to your daughter and your neighbor. Sounds like they had some good coaching, so they should both do great!
@PastorVincent - That statistic blows my mind! 20 percent??? I tend to wait until last minute to sign up for races because I worry about things that can happen in the meantime, but if I do sign up for a race, you better believe I am going to participate in it, even if I have to walk!3 -
Welcome to all the new challenge athlete's.
Wednesday evening I was in Grande Prairie for the 22 km Evergreen Trail Trek GP.
A beautiful evening Race through the Mixed forest Sand Dune trails. 6 minutes slower than last year - was a little under trained in comparison to last year but I still enjoyed myself and managed AG first place.
