The Woo thing

I'm confused. Is Woo like a thumbs down or a down vote on reddit? One post said that it means "too good to be true". I like posting and contributing here, but I find the woos a little disheartening because I'm not precisely sure what they mean ... Even if it's something fairly moderate like 'too good to be true', that's also a bit insulting because I'm very honest in my posts ...

Well, I am not sure what it means personally, but from what I have found is that it means too good to be true or BS. Judging by the look on the little fellow's face, I have to think it's a discouraging thing. Also in my opinion, a bit cowardly if you are clicking it. Just chat to the person why you want to Woo, instead of hiding behind the little woo face. I honestly have not used it, but I have gotten one before. The thing is don't let it bother you. Hey, I bet this post gets a woo! Lol! It's all good. Have a good day.

It’s because you’re pretty and shaped like a woman. Some people hate that.15 -
Just ignore it. I've been woo-ed already and only have a few posts. As @leerena73 said previously, it's cowardly. Also, it's an absolute pain on the mobile app. I've accidentally hit buttons just by scrolling down the page. So there are possible random woos out there.9

The members seem to be split. Some told me that it's positive (woohoo, you go, girl!). Others said it's negative (how could you say that, you're a mean girl!).
I've stopped using it and think they should replace it with a simple to understand thumbs down. 😕

I always get nervous when i get Woo'd,like is me losing weight a bad thing? lol
Edit: i have gotten a few woos during a challenge.8 -
Let's say someone posts that you can lose weight by not eating after 7:00 pm because none of it will be digested and the food won't go anywhere and it'l immediately turn to fat. Or the ever popular starvation mode excuse for not losing weight while still in a deficit.
Those are examples of woo.
Some use it as woo hoo! but if you hover over the woo button, you can see the "wtf" label.6 -

I think that's what threw me off. Every time I have posted about my progress, I get woos and I don't know why - because I'm just answering the question I was asked. Am I being woo'd because I've lost weight? I thought that was the goal! or am I being woo'd because I'm still not yet at goal? No one knows. Woohoo :P6 -
Where I live, "Woo" is the cry of alarm, in incessant chorus, to let one know of an incoming pedal tavern.4

Woo = BS
I notice its usually the newbies that think woo is a positive thing.13 -
If they would just change the name from Woo to BS, the problem would be solved.14
-
I was also confused as I got a few woos posting non-negative things (like plain facts or even my progress in a challenge) but felt the woo was somewhat negative...so now this confirms it's BS. Just give us a thumbs down.7

I didn't realize Woo was a bad thing. I apologize to anyone I Woo'd!11

It's basically a negative thing in a forum that doesn't want to allow overtly negative reactions. Nobody likes it and many use it incorrectly. If you get dozens on a post, you have probably asserted something that isn't widely supported by science. If you get a couple here & there, it's probably people thinking they are cheering you.
Oh, and one other use of woo... the "ha-ha, aren't I funny?" use when people woo all the posts in a thread about woo.10 -
Ok, now I'm sure. The woo is just stupid. 😱11

Yes all true, and in chit chat it is also used to mean “I don’t like you.”9 -

Don't give the "woo" feature more value than it's worth. Honesty on these forums is scroungy at best, as readers are reading with puffed up contempt and disbelief. When you figure that ONLY THEIR POSTS, EXPERIENCES, DEDUCTIONS, FUNNIES, OPINIONS etc are the only valid views to them & their groupy immature cliques, their pathetic votes carries little weight. They are the big boy/girl bullies on the interwebs - woo-hoo lifetime achievement.
Don't give their pettiness the power it doesn't deserve. They know it affects many in here, which is laughable. If they haven't seen a koala in real life, guess what? Koalas are fictitious. That tab needs an ignore feature.
I have disabled the notifications feature. Prevents me from giving depressives power over my posts. Good or bad, I don't see it, I don't care.13 -
I take it as bad, I get wooed all the time too

I’m not accepting that definition. I hereby declare woo is a positive thing which means
“woo hoo! Good job! Alright! Nice going!”
Woo me all you want!

@CoffeeAndContour agrees with you.2 -
I just realized MFP still lets you posts gifs. My favorite sarcastic woo is now this.

Well despite my more than 3000 woos, i have never given one to anybody.......those that dislike me dont move the needle enough for me to care, and posts i find to be either ridiculous or ignorant, i just scroll on by. Hey, who knows what that person may be dealing with? I just shake my head and move on to attend to real life issues15

Really? Never? I have mostly woo’d pseudoscience and judgemental people. I MAY have given a petty woo once or twice as well. I’m a little ashamed of those.5
