8/22: 3mi treadmill mountain simulation at 8% incline (37:28) 12:27/mi avg. 1,271ft elevation gain.
Needed a break from the heat outside. Felt a little drained this morning. So indoors today. Aiming for high altitude mountains tomorrow.

This quote stuck out to me: “But what I couldn’t understand was: why had he done it?” I get it but I don't, you know?
Skip was running a 5K in June and a guy came out of no where in front of her, he cut the last corner and she said "hey you cut the course". His reply "no *kitten*". What a complete jerk. I'm sure he got some big satisfaction beating her that way. I don't get it at all.

8 miles today.
Car doesn't seem to drive or run any smoother than before, but I now have anxiety over whether the small leak is dripping into the spark plugs. So, yay for that? With any luck, the new tire won't wear uneven - and I'll count it as good. It's been about a year since the last big issue, so it was probably due. I don't have a lot of luck with cars, and this car has been a mistake since day 1. They sold it to me with oil in the coolant, and 3 different sizes of tires on it. One of the rims had a wobble and needed replacing, and there was a suspension issue that they probably didn't correct properly before we even drove it off the lot. They did *something* to make it drive reasonably, anyway - probably the non-adjustable tie-rod end that just got replaced... The air conditioner has been broken the entire time I've owned it, the radio display doesn't display, there's a missing vent cover and a bunch of cosmetic dents and scratches. ...Buy a newer car with fewer miles on it, they said, it'll have fewer issues, they said... No, for me it seems a newer car with fewer miles is just more expensive before I start correcting all the issues.
This latest drama was nothing. I hope this car is done with the drama, now. I do need to go and see about having that spare (the one with the screw in it) dealt with. Even if I haven't needed the spare, you know that when the spare is flat, you're more likely to get another flat. I'm pretty sure I can have Discount Tire patch the hole, and even as worn as it is, it'll be better than a donut. Anyway, that's the last I want to speak of my car.

Sick again. So over this.12

@polskagirl01 funny, I hadn’t made it in here to post my picture yet, but one of my last runs also had turkeys. Although, there was no chasing involved. If anything they might argue that I was chasing them.
I am only at like 12 miles for the month. And 5 of those miles was a route miscalculation that was an awful lot of walking for a run, and about 2 miles further than I intended to go. Ugh, one of these days I gotta get back on this wagon....or stop eating.

I can understanding cheating when something is at stake, such as charity money - don’t agree with it of course but at least I can see why someone would do it. But why someone would cheat at an amateur running event isn’t clear to me. I had a 5k last year at which I placed 7th in AG, and being the competitive sort of person I am, I looked at the finishing video to see who had beaten me, and was surprised as heck when I found three out of the people ahead of me hadn’t finished the course properly! One had walked the 1 mile course, one was a man wearing the wrong bib, and I can’t recall what the deal was but there was a third person - I’m thinking she wasn’t on the video at all? Anyway I wrote to the race timing company and ended up in 4th place, and a couple of other people actually ended up winning AG awards that they had been denied. It seems just crazy to me that anyone would deliberately cheat on a local 5k. I feel like the man may have been an accident rather than intentional cheating - probably borrowed a bib from his mom or something and didn’t think it would be an issue. But there are photos from the awards ceremony which show the walking “winner” accepting her award, so she must have known what happened. What sort of person gets up, smiles and waves, and accepts an award they didn’t win?
Anyway ever since then I have checked the footage of my local races, and never found any issues. The race with all the cheating is coming up again soon and I’m wondering if there will be any weirdness this time around.1 -
Was meant to go for a run and err...actually went for a run. We are trying to choose a holiday destination for next year so the motivation is: 'being on the beach without people trying to push me back into sea.'

Yesterday I managed to slice open my finger unloading a broken dishwasher at the recycling centre and as a result spent half the day in hospital. So no running! Am now nursing a sore strapped finger and a sore arm from the tetanus injection so am unable to do any weights or body weight stuff for a week. Running it is then! Stayed on a gentle and well populated trail near home this morning in case I got faint or anything but all was fine. A nice sunny just over 10k run.

Re: cheating. Last year I was looking at Strava flyby of a half marathon and saw a guy suddenly start going super-fast and got almost to the finish when he slowed back down to run across the finish line. I'm pretty sure he got a ride from the same pickup truck that offered me a ride (I refused - didn't get why they'd even ask such a stupid question - but he must have been already in the truck at that point). He didn't win anything or brag about the race on Facebook, so I didn't bother reporting him. It was weird to me how obvious it was, though, and how he made no attempt to hide it with public Strava in his full name, public Facebook and he is apparently even an employee of one of the sponsors. I found all of this information within a couple of minutes of seeing the flyby.

We're having some really nice weather here - almost feels like fall. I had a plan to meet up to run this morning at 7 but when the alarm went off I snoozed it a few times and finally realized I really just needed sleep. It's been an exhausting week. So I put off the run until after work. I had to stop by my gym so ran from there, part of it a very similar route to what I ran on Wednesday and found ended up bailing and running inside. What a difference in weather in a couple of days. Today I forgot to bring my water once again, but was fine for the whole run.
Tomorrow is supposed to be equally nice, which is great news for the long run. I really need a solid long run after being gone for the bike race and Spartan races the last two weekends.

8/23: 9.6mi trailrun to 11,000ft. 3,300ft of climbing. Enjoyed the 51f temps vs 106 in the valley. Felt great! Endurance is improving.
August total: 111.6mi11 -
No run today. Today I cross-trained by unloading a full-sized Uhaul for a friend. For most of the time, due to issues beyond anyone's control, it was just me and my son doing the heavy work.8

Been having a really rough week on the mental health front, but I made it out for two runs, so that's something. They were both pretty tough, lots of walking, but I did it. I've got two weeks until my first half of the year. I'm hoping to run 7.5 miles this weekend and 10 miles next weekend, then the half the weekend after that.
34.24 miles so far this month, which is more than I ran in February, March, May, June, or July. If I get that long run in this weekend I'll top my mileage for April, and one more run after that will make this my highest mileage month of the year. I am alternately happy and sad about that.15 -

Official start to marathon training. Just an easy 11 to start. Good that the beginning of the plan is low mileage, as I needed a little break from all this hot summer running.
Took a few walk breaks to keep it just under 10:00/mi pace.

Finally getting back on track with the long runs in training for the half marathons in October. Today's weather was fantastic, it was 59 degrees F to start and I wore a long sleeve over my tank while driving over because I was chilly. I ditched it immediately before starting and it did get warm, but overall very pleasant compared to most of the summer. I was in a cranky mood but my running pals were good support and entertainment to get me out of that. This was my longest run since a HM in early June.
I am 8 weeks out from my double half marathon weekend. I just tabled out my training plan for these remaining weeks so it seems quite serious now. Last year I was so much more on top of the plan - being filled with terror about finishing a marathon was pretty motivating. This year, I'm not following to plan quite as strictly. I am starting to develop a little (lot) more of the fear about the two HMs though so definitely time to get in gear.

So I just realized that I am inside the training window for my next "big" race. The Liberty 10 miler. I have not run a 10-mile race in something like 1/2 a decade, so wondering how I will do. One thing I know for sure though, I need to you know, actually train, if I want to find that out... ops5

I had time for 5.5 miles this morning and time for lunch with my mom before heading to the airport. Waiting to board flight now. Only 4.5 miles to meet my goal for this month.7

Skipped two runs this past week because I felt some pain in the meaty part of my shin on the outside. Figured it would be smart to take a few days rest 8 weeks out from my race than to push it and miss weeks of training because of an injury.
Booked a 10 night long river cruise thru Europe two weeks before my race. We'll see how that will affect my training. Supposedly there is a treadmill on the boat, but I don't have high hopes for having the time to use it or being motivated to run while there are sights to explore.
I can't figure out what is going on with my damn weight. I'm tired of not making any progress in that department. Like so frustrated I wanted to cry. I weigh my food, wear my Fitbit, carry a deficit 6 days a week, and nothing. I drop a few pounds then I gain them all back plus some. Went from 136 -132 in two weeks, then today I was 138. I'm not overweight, but I'm uncomfortable and my clothes are tight. Ugh.8 -

It's always great to look at your age group competition and realize you somehow got into the wrong age group.7
