Welcome to all the new members of the group!
The best vacation I ever took was a Caribbean cruise four years ago for my 25th Anniversary. I would love to do it again next year for #30, but it probably won't happen. Right now my son is in Japan so I would love to visit there. But Ireland, New Zealand and Costa Rica are all on my list of places I would love to go.6 -
I'am new to this group and my goal for September is 120 plus miles. Had a Ankle injury that sidelined me last month for about 2 weeks, I still had over 104 miles.8

Best vacation was a week in southern Turkey. Got some sailing and swim time in the Mediterranean and some beach time on the island of Rhodes. So much history...9

100 MILE CLUB
Gonna try again!

Aiming for 100km again in September. Didn't quite make it in August, so fingers crossed! Another aim is to get my longer runs up to over 8km, and maybe get my 5km under 30 mins. We'll see!
My best holiday was the country of Georgia a few years ago. So beautiful, incredible hiking in the mountains and delicious wine, what's not to love?! Tbilisi is a fun city and the history and achitecture is unique. It's also incredibly proud of its food, so everywhere you go you find incredible Georgian food instead of the boring international standards of pasta, pizza and sandwiches...
My next big holiday when I have some money will be the Baltic states. Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia all look so beautiful.

I made the 50 miles goal for August. I’m going to aim for 60 miles for September8

vacations. In theory I'd like to see the world... But I like being home. I don't like change, and I don't like the gypsy nature DH has: he can pick up and go somewhere with no plans. I gotta have plans and back up plans. I get stressed away from regular.
We haven't had many vacations. When we first married (9yrs), we went to hot springs Arkansas. Beautiful area. But the visit seemed unproductive... Unplanned. I think we went back a time or two, but I can't remember anything other than Rolando's Cuban cafe. And the duck tour I didn't get to do. And the run didn't get to go on. We did do a bath house. It was a little pervy for my taste.
Of course, Hawaii was awesome. DH has come along in planning. Although, I'm keen on doing nothing special and just enjoying the change. The next trip may involve surfing, prob just for DH. I guess I a lay down and paddle, distract some sharks... 😱
anyone have another monthly question for the group? I'll try to think of something better, but I'm kinda brain dead. It's been phagocytize, I think... (Joke cuz my grandfather had CJD). Dh thinks I'll have it. And why not? I hope I get good meds and and all the nachos I can eat.

I was woefully short of my 60 mile goal for August. I have decided to try to follow the Jeff Galloway 10K training plan in Sept and Oct, so I'll see how that goes. If I can do it, I should get in over 50 miles of walking and running for the month. So, my goal will be 50 miles!
As far as vacations go, I guess my most enjoyable was a month I stayed with my Aunt in Alexandria,VA when I graduated high school. I took the Metro into DC everyday and just explored the area alone. It was empowering for me and I really enjoyed seeing all of the sights.
I'm not a big world traveler - prefer staying home and just enjoying quite time. However, my dream vacation would be either a month in Australia or a cruise to the Galapagos Islands.7 -
I’m in for 50 for September. I quit my second job doing therapy with a few clients in the evening to give myself a little more self care, so I plan to run more than I have been lately. I signed up for another marathon for March.
My favorite vacations have been to Iceland and Scotland. They were both so beautiful, and we did a lot of hiking in both. We just got back from traveling around the Baltic/Russia/Scandinavia for a couple of weeks, and I’d like to go back to Stockholm - it was a really cool city. I have such a long list of places I want to go.11 -
After doing some calculations, I'm going to up my goal to 150 miles for September. That may be a reach but I'll go with it and hope for really nice September weather to make it more likely.9

200 mile minimum goal

September goal 100 miles as usual.
Best vacation ever? The 4 of us went to Madeira Island one winter and it felt like Spring there. I ran a marathon and my kids swam in the ocean. There were so few runners in the marathon distance that I placed in my age group. Very few tourists that time of year. It was just all-around glorious. I've looked at tickets to go back though, and we must've got an awesome deal because I haven't seen them at those prices since.11 -
Looking forward to another month!
1. September Goal: 41-44 miles total
2. Run 3.25 continuous running without walking
3. Run 3.25 miles in under 30 minutes

This month I'm aiming for 200km - I'm in build up for the Auckland Half so should be clocking up the miles this month.
My best holiday ever. Well, I've had a lot of great holidays, but every holiday has it's highs and lows. The most memorable would be the week I spent in Cinque Terre as a part of a month in Italy. Gelato, bruschetta, cheap wine and floating in the Med. Bliss.
A month snowboarding in Canada comes a close second. Also the week in Austria - the snow was amazing and the pastries were unbelievable!
My girlfriend and I would take random weekend trips around England when I was living in London. Had an unexpectedly amazing time in Winchester one time. Such a beautiful little town.
I've had a number of amazing destination running events - Christchurch Half and Marlborough Half were both awesome weekends away.
Then there's the holiday my husband and I took early on in our relationship - we just hopped into the car and drove.
And if I think back to my childhood, those long lazy camping holidays set the tone for a lifetime love of beaches, swimming, nature, reading and life under canvas...

I'm in for 190 miles this month!
ETA: I'm considering signing up for a 50K in March. Please help talk me out of (or into??) it10 -

Cinque Terre - When my daughter graduated from college she went traveling in Europe for about 3 months and at the end invited me to spend the last weeks with her revisiting some of her favorite places. We stayed in hostels and took buses and trains everywhere. It was September and most of the vacationer crowds were gone. Cinque Terre was one of our stops and you are right the gelato is so good. We ended in Vienna, one of my favorite places that she hadn't been to and treated ourselves to a lovely hotel and ate at a Biergarten every night!3 -
First run for September on the board: 7.3km done in the forest before it gets too hot. I'm doing a bridge to 10k program when I have time, and really enjoyed it this morning, although I was very slow.
The vacation talk has reminded me of another: backpacking around New Zealand about six years ago. Great country, amazing people, and so, so beautiful. Taking the train over the southern alps was a particular highlight, as was climbing Fox Glacier.

Missed a few months here but I'm back. Need accountability to keep getting out in the autumn and winter as I've signed up for the half marathon again next year.
Best holiday ever - 18 day trip to States many years ago. We flew to LA then drove to Tucson to see an old friend, visited Desert Museum and Tombstone. Went on to see another friend living in Alberqueque, spent a few days exploring there and Santa Fe, saw the Balloon Fiesta. Drove west taking in White Sands and the painted desert. Got to Grand Canyon to watch the sunset, took an early flight a cross the canyon and saw the sun some up. 2 crazy days in Vegas and then 3 in LA. Loved every minute.8 -

I signed up last night for tomorrow’s Labor Day 10K. I wasn’t planning to run this year because a newer staff member is on call this weekend for the first time, and I want to be available to help, but I figure she can manage for a little over an hour. It really didn’t take much for a friend to talk me into it...13

June Total: 161.5k

Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
Cloudy and cool for today's recovery run, which was more like a plod. Did loosen up my Achilles some, but my legs were pretty dead. This will be a strange week schedule-wise, so I'll just try to have fun and run.

6-30 Strides for Starfish 5K - 31:34 chip time; 31/77 overall; second male 65 and older (no official category)

Wow! I love hearing these vacations. Who knew there was so much to see and do! (I am not telling dh).
I want coffee, sleep, good food, sights, and trail. I think I like water over mountains, but I am scared something is gonna get me. I can even scare myself in an unfamiliar pool. 😑 but Hawaii water, not scary. Neither was Cozumel (think that where we went). Maybe it just dirty lakes...
@noblsheep ... I want to go to Japan . I need a time machine so I can have money to experience the best this world has to offer... Ya id take all y'all. Not just one like Dr who.6 -
3 muggy miles this morning. Hopefully, tomorrow’s race won’t be too hot and humid.7

I’m off to a good start for September! Got my 10mile long run in this morning. Had a very frustrating end to August when I had to cancel two planned runs due to house refurb disasters - loss of hot water and then a very impressive flood through the ceiling! I so wanted to get out for an hour to get that last six miles but things were conspiring against me!
Ah well. New month and feels good to be off the mark..
9/1: 10m
September total: 10m
September goal: 80m
August total: 85m
Hope everyone is having a great start to the month10 -
Seeing as work will be busy this month (I work at a university so it's new student time!) I'm not setting a distance goal. My first half marathon is the first weekend in October though, so my goal in September is to run as much/often as possible in the spare time that I do have.
With that in mind, rather than have a lazy Sunday I got outside today for short-ish run!
01 Sep - 5.6 miles
Hope everyone has a fantastic month!10 -
