Happy September! I started the month with a long run on the trails this morning. A couple of friends wanted to do some trail running and I needed to get my long run in, so we decided to head up to the trails in the state park near where I live. We run in this park all the time, but not typically on the upper trails as they are more technical and a little wilder than we usually want. One friend had to back out so there were just two of us today, but it was really fun. A very nice change of pace to get outside our usual routes. The weather was really nice and cool, and mostly overcast. Lots of beautiful wildflowers and some fun wooded trails.
It was a bit slower going so took a while to get the miles in that I wanted. My friend had to stop at about 8 miles, so I reluctantly went back out to finish up another 3.5 on my own. I was aiming for 12 but I felt like I was totally dragging the last mile and was back at my car so I just called it done.

On the vacation question - I've had a lot of great trips, many of them work-related which gets me to some cool places and usually I get to spend some free/fun time. Some of my favorites have been Alaska, Vancouver, Amsterdam, Grand Canyon, and Costa Rica. For running race destination trips I have been Newport RI, Cape Cod, Key West and Niagara Falls CA - I loved all of those places for the races as well as the other fun things I did during the trip.
Really though, a personal favorite getaway for me is to head to Lake Placid in the Adirondack Mountains. It's about a 4-hour drive from me and I try to get there at least a couple of times a year. It's so beautiful and really speaks to my soul to be there. I'm going again in 3 weeks and I can't wait.12 -
September Goal: 160km
02/9: 5.11
Total KM run: 5.11
This morning was my first pre-dawn run in a long time! I've spent the last few winter months either running after work while there's still a little light and a few degrees warmer, or inside on the treadmill. I just haven't been able to face the cold dark mornings. But I figured since it is now officially Spring and I'm back into an actual training plan it's time for me to get back into my morning run schedule.
I forgot how nice it is to run in the early morning - hardly any people or traffic. I also forgot to wear gloves Luckily it was just a short run today.
Vacations
I'm very fortunate to have travelled quite extensively around the world so I've had many memorable trips. One of the standouts would have to be Africa. I spent a month camping on safari through Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe about 15 years ago and I've never experienced anything else like it. I'm dying to go back and do it again, but next time I think I'll go "glamping"
I'm also looking forward to another dream vacation that I have booked for February. I'm heading to Egypt for a few weeks via Istanbul. I can't wait for this trip. I have dreams of running along the corniche in Alexandria and along the banks of the Nile7 -
Hey all! Been Mia as life kinda just took over for a few days. Went to conference and took the family. Had a great conference but ate way too much and did no exercise at all.
So today I decided that no matter what, I'm going for a run. And I did. Was only 3k. I'm so unconditioned I'm going to slowly build up again. So regular weekday running a long run on the weekend.
I have also gained unknown weight but my jeans are getting too tight. That puts me in the around 6kg gained mark. So I want to lose that again before December. Basically no more junk food, plan lunches, and run/do weights/walk.
So goal is 15ks per week11 -
Off to a good start!
Goals:
1. September Goal: 41-44 miles total
2. Run 3.25 continuous running without walking
3. Run 3.25 miles in under 30 minutes
9/1: 3.23 total miles in 31:55, 2.86 continuous run10 -

I hear ya on the weight gain. I told DH I couldn't go to church anymore because I was too fat. He suggested I buy bigger clothes. I countered with some coolsculpting or lipo.
monthly question #2 weight loss goal by December? And how do you plan on making that happen?4 -
So September, we are in you!
I forgot if I posted my goals or not so here we go!
I am restarting my anti-trex plan a week from Monday (That is about as soon as I can get gym membership started) And instead of just running for time on feet I am going to try and come up with a plan for breaking 1:20 in the 10 miler (Race 11/3). Should be enough time. I did a test run last week and finished in 1:35 (well roughly, I actually ran 11 miles, so that is estimated). So I need to get a min per mile faster in training and that should equate to 1.5 mins per mile on race day. We will see.
Also, now that I have a job, I need to set a new goal of keeping it!11 -
Started off the month with an 8.17 mile run in Pitlochry Scotland. Setting my goal at 90 miles. I will be on vacation for another week and then a week of work travel so I will keep it conservative.15

@Faebert Sorry about your house referb disasters. Hope that got all fixed and the rest of the referb goes as planned. Great start to September!
@Elise4270 Thanks for including all of us in your fantasy time machine.
@marisap2010 Good luck on your race tomorrow.
@katharmonic Sounds like a great start to September. I really need to find some interesting places to run around here. Even though, one of the things I like about running is that I CAN do it around the house and don't have to drive anywhere to get it done.
@Avidkeo Sounds like you have a great plan. Good luck!
@Teresa502 Great start to the month and a lovely place you found to run. Enjoy the rest of your vacation.
I opted to make today a walk/XT day instead of running. So, I walked 2 miles at 3.7 mph pace. At least I have some miles up for September already.8 -
In for 50 miles with stretch goal of 60. I have the West Cancer Center 5k on the 14th which is also my 2 year runniversary, so I hope to do well in it. Although I think I am slower than I was at this time last year, due to long rehab on my ankle injury. As usual, my primary goal is not to reinjure my Achilles’ tendon, and my secondary goal is not to die of heat stroke, since the heat index is still near 100 most days. Last year’s race was very hot, and there’s no shade or breeze on the course.
I got an email for the Memphis Runner’s Club 24 hour tour d’esprit in October - 24 hour event, as many loops of a one mile course as you can do in the time, individuals or teams. I wish I knew 6 other local runners so my husband and I could form a team! We’re definitely going to do it since it turns out the location is right down the street from us, we literally walk past it sometimes on evening walks. But normally it’s posted as not open to the public (it’s on property belonging to a school) so we have never run there. There’s going to be camping, and it sounds like a fun time. I’ve never done anything similar before.
The race location is next to the corner of Messick and McVay which was known to us when I was in high school as “the hairpin curve.” All sorts of local legends and ghost stories had grown up about it. Because it’s on the border between Memphis and Germantown, no one had ever managed to develop it, so it remained a narrow, deeply wooded road with a spooky, mystic feel. Unfortunately about three years ago a developer finally pushed through a plan for straddling the two cities. Apparently even the city government had noticed the special nature of the location, since the plan promised to leave the woods intact for a depth of a minimum of 50 yards from the street. Well... they lied... and now it’s just like any other road. The ancient trees came down, and now it’s mostly parking lot with a tiny fringe of trees. Still, I’m looking forward to running in that area, and it will be nice to literally roll out of bed and head over instead of driving half an hour to get to a race.9 -

My uniform this morning is definitely a bit snug. Sigh.
I plan to lose how I always do. Eat less and move more. So will be tracking with MFP. DH is on board to buy less takeaways now that we are almost settled. And I'm leaving my wallet at home so I can't buy cafe food.
And I'm a) getting back to running (yay) and b) gonna start lifting again at the end of next week when all our stuff arrives.
Oh we move into the house Friday! 4 sleeps!
And every yayer SPRING is here!9 -
August was a rough month, reset in September. 1st run was 6km, which went fine. Took a bit of time to get going so the 6th km was faster than the 1st.
Goals September:
13 Runs....1 run
71km........ 6km
5km PB....Done 1 Sep
6km PB....Done 1 Sep
7km..........x
Youngest to do 5km
Youngest to do run/walk of 10mins/1min.6 -
Started the month out right with a 4.5 mile run today. I miscalculated my numbers in my original post for the month; my running plan calls for 126.
9.01: 4.5M Easy Run (4.5)
As far as vacations, we are going on a Rhine River cruise in October. We are flying into Amsterdam and leaving from Stuttgart. The cruise is a wine tasting itinerary. I have already planned that week to be a cut back week on running- I have a 15K race four days after we return. I travel very heavily for work so while I'm always excited to go on vacation, I also really dislike not being at home sometimes.

September goal: 110 miles
9/1: 8.86 miles
8.86/110 miles completed
Today's run was tough. I wasn't feeling well on Thursday evening and Friday. I was feeling better yesterday, but I still wasn't 100% this morning and it made for a tough run. My stomach was a little iffy when I got up, but it settled as I ran. I was slow though. I was a good minute slower than my last long run, but I did manage to get 8.86 miles in. I normally would have kept going to get to 9 miles, but about 3/4 of a mile from home I really needed the bathroom, so it was kind of a mad dash to get there. Thankfully I made it. I do feel better now and I was really glad I got out there and did my run. But I am also really glad that tomorrow is a rest day and a holiday.
As far as the 2nd monthly question goes, I am having the opposite problem and my weight goal for December is not to lose any more weight. I hit my original goal before I started running and then after I started running I lost an additional 20 pounds. I was ok with that for a while, but I have dropped below my maintenance range, and I don't want to lose anymore. There is a lot of talk about not being able to outrun our forks, but I seem to have trouble eating enough to keep up with my running. Does anyone else have trouble with that?
2019 races:
2/2/19: Catch the Groundhog Half Marathon - PR 2:15:17
5/18/19: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon - Cancelled due to weather
2020 races:
5/16/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon9 -

I'm sorry you weren't feeling the greatest this week. But I'm super happy to hear you made it back to the bathroom in time. I absolutely hate that feeling.1 -

"You can not outrun your fork" is for the general case. It is not a universal law. I actually run into the same issue when I am training seriously for a 50k. Right now I am t the top end of my maintenance range, but my 26+ mile races are all behind me until next season. This is the time of the year it is a struggle to keep it off.
Basically, you need to learn your cycles and work WITH them. I suggest for now you add calories from GOOD FATS and COMPLEX PROTEINS - this will encourage muscle growth and help stave off sugar addiction for when you reach a point that your pounds are gaining again. Try to avoid increasing carbs and definitely avoid adding simple carbs to your diet if you can help it.
Experiment and see what works for you, but that is my general advice as a random faceless person on the internet4 -
September goal: try to keep up
9/1: 3.30
Total: 3.30
Ticker is my goal for 2019 and progress to date:@shanaber @RunsOnEspresso @HonuNui Eric is talking of Hawaii again. There is a tentative plan to go mid May to mid-late June. I was wondering if anyone else is planning a vaca? Thought perhaps we might even share an air B&B. We're still planning, nothing nailed down, but I'ma Amazon shop for a Magnum PI shirt for Eric.
Upcoming races:
Revel Kulia Half Marathon 1/18/20

So MFP ate my earlier post...here it is generally again:
Seeing some great running here to start off the month!
@teresa502 - love the Scotland pictures! Awesome!
@kgirlhart - hope you are feeling better! While I am no longer at my goal weight due to rehab and not running, I have problems eating enough. At the end of 2017/early 2018 I came very close to adrenal fatigue between work stress and physical stress from running and trying to lose more weight. I saw a nutritionist who gave me very specific goals to hit with calories and macros and while I still struggle to eat the calories she recommended I feel so much better and my running is much better. I have lost a few pounds now that I am back running more consistently after the stress fracture but since I am training for a HM this month I am focusing on just fueling my runs and keeping my weight pretty stable. I will worry about the few extra pounds after my race and before training for the next one. If you can see a nutritionist I would highly recommend it. They can give you the specifics for your situation after ruling out (with your doctor) any other metabolic issues. My insurance didn't initially cover it but did later so that was a big plus.
@HonuNui - welcome back! What is better than a sea turtle? A sea turtle doing back flips!! Love it!
@Elise4270 - 2nd monthly question: I would like to lose 6 or so pounds by the end of the year. Primarily running consistently, getting in more intervals, lifting heavier things and cutting back just slightly on my calories. I would also like to try some new workouts/classes at the gym to see if changing things up some more will help too.
I also love hearing about all the fun places everyone has traveled.
So I would be interested in the least favorite place you have been or your worst experience?
Mine would have been that same trip around Europe with my daughter and going to Venice. Our room at the hostel was a disaster, up many dark flights (light was out and elevator was broken) of narrow and broken stairs to a tiny room with 2 twin beds crammed in and no room for our bags. We literally slept with them on our beds. The bathtub in the bathroom down the hall had been filled with dirt and had plants growing in it! It was oppressively hot when we were there and we really didn't enjoy it much.
I went out to make up my long run today with 12mi on the plan. I kept hoping my legs would loosen up and stop complaining but they were decidedly unhappy and wanted no part of running. It was also so very humid that I had a hard time breathing again at first. I am happy to have gotten in 8 but honestly I had given up the last couple of miles and was walking and running just a bit here and there. Also met a friend and stopped to talk for a few mins and forgot to stop my watch - oh well. Hope my legs feel better after some rest before the HM!

Random, anyone else have any lumps about where their laces come to?
I've been wearing old running shoes for work for the last 6 weeks, and just spotted this lump on both ankles. Doesn't hurt or anything, pretty sure they are just lipoma but thought I'd check if anyone else has any.0 -
Ok, ok, I'm in! I'm training for a half on Oct. 3rd so I think I should run around 80 miles this month. BUT...if something happens and I need to back off on my runs, I will. One thing I've learned is to listen when my body says slow down or take a break...before it breaks.8

Are you lacing too tight? I’ve never encountered this before or heard any runners speak of it.0 -
September is off to a shaky start. Planned rest day yesterday, enforced rest today thanks to upset tummy, fever and aching joints - I’ve been in bed since 1pm and am finally starting to feel a bit better (it’s nearly 8pm). Tummy’s settled enough for me to pop some ibuprofen, so aches are easing. Hopefully just a 24 hour thing.8
