Do you follow the people around for their entire day? If not, you are not really learning anything about their habits. Food choices in snapshots of time can be very misleading. Plus, when it comes to food it only really matters that a person eat an appropriate number of calories. The type of food only matters for overall nutrition.

I know. But if my interpretation is dramatically different than everyone else's, which is seems to be, then that says something. Either this is a losing battle, or my interpretation is wrong. Either way, this probably isn't the thread for me.

I will say if anyone saw my breakfast this morning, I would probably be the subject of similar pity (if that's what we're closing to call it...) Unless normal BMI exempts one from such judgement when eating Pringles for breakfast.7 -

as I have stated in other forums... I work in a well... uhhhh.... giant lab.. yeah lab... all of the uhhh patients are controlled as best as one can control a human being. I have watched several uhhh... patients... get the same food. Obese, overweight, and lean. Now intentional activity is controlled. NEAT, genetics, past diet history, ect cant be. I have noted that many of the lean patients will leave food on the trays. Then the next meal eat it all. Not always, but IN GENERAL, they seem to have a higher sense of self control around food. Just N=1 data. Part of my job is to actually record intakes, so yes. Creepy, but... huh🤷♂️5 -

FWIW, I shared this interpretation as well. I didn't see it as a judgement on the food so much as commentary on what the lady *said.* It reminded me of back when I used to smoke cigarettes and I would make little joking remarks about how I was "putting another nail in my coffin." I would pretend like I didn't care that I was doing something unhealthy, but in reality I did. That's not to say that it's what *that* woman was thinking, but it was the first thought that came to my mind. I think it's clear that we all interpret things according to our own experiences and thought patterns.13 -

I don't think you can tell what a person is feeling by the large amount of food on a plate and an overheard jokey comment.
Anymore than you can tell what a person is feeling by the small amount of food in their diary and the large amount they log for excercise.
We can always infer things, but we could well be wrong.7 -
