I had a shoulder surgery yesterday and was required to fill in an extensive medical questionnaire. When the anaesthetist came for his pre-op visit he gestured down the length of the form and all the ticks in the ‘No’ columns, and said ‘So nice to see this, you obviously keep yourself fit and healthy, we don’t see this often!’
I’m 58 and just squeezed under the overweight into normal BMI threshold last week. (Although I’m still a fair way from goal) so that was a nice little boost to my resolve which will hopefully push me through my recovery on close to maintenance level for healing and back to losing once I’m fixed up!
I was dreading being derailed by sensible decisions for the recuperating period.29 -
Historically my wife has very low blood pressure and mine has been high for years. My HIGI BP from Saturday was the same as hers when she went to the doctor yesterday (high for her, low for me).19

I'm getting my waist back!!20

I visited and walked a bit around my former home area yesterday and all that bothered me was being a little sweaty because of the unusual October heat and not having a hand towel with me 😊16

Had a dr's appointment yesterday and he went over some blood work I had done before the summer. All the tests were great. According to him the average 60 year old female has a 12% chance of having cardiac issues. My numbers say I have a 3% chance. After I got home I was annoyed because I didn't ask how to get it to 0%, but maybe its just my age? Or maybe its the last 10 pounds that I struggle with all the time? Anyway, I have worked very hard to lose weight and put in the hours of exercise so it was rewarding to hear this information.26

I walked away from a jar of salted caramel sauce at the grocery store today. That's my favorite flavor in the world but it's not how I want to spend my calories. A major victory for me. 😀28

I am getting through a pretty stressful couple weeks at work, but have been keeping at maintenance or below. I can't say I haven't eaten for comfort, but I have made good choices and stayed within my calorie limit.30

I found a jeans at the op-shop that is cut exactly to my body ! What a wonderful find :-)14

I used to dread dress shopping because in the past, unless it was very carefully cut everything made my stomach poke out and look huge. Well this weekend I finally went dress shopping because all the ones I have are too big (had waited way too long), and had the most amazing experience: had to go down to the size I used to wear in college, and everything looked good - even a sheath dress! I bought one and wore it to work this week and got like 4 compliments. Huge confidence boost :-)28

Tomorrow, my son is in college all day so I will go out alone, to prove that I can manage by myself.
And I did it. By myself. Bike paths and very quiet roads.
I was terrified on the roads, especially when I heard a car behind me. I have never gripped the handlebars so hard. The relief I felt when the car went by was immense. Fortunately the driver was courteous and left me lots of room.
And despite being anxious about my son being anxious, he was overjoyed that I'd gone out by myself.
I CAN do this, and I WILL do this. I will not let one idiot spoil things. Because to give up cycling would be a most awful thing.

Went to a baseball game on Tuesday. Planned ahead and managed calories so that I could enjoy a hot dog and a couple of beers. Finished the day with a deficit.29

Finding out that I actually LIKE to exercise!21

There was definitely some wiggle room around my waist in my swimming costume today, water sloshing about when before there was no room.
This could be because I swim before work and leave it in the car all day for the elastic to rot, but I choose to believe it's because I'm more streamlined 😁26 -
A favourite t shirt I couldn’t wear comfortably years ago now not only fits but there is enough room around that it’s hanging off me! It’s a good reminder that although my weight has not budged much lately I have made a lot of progress overall. I feel like I can keep going with this and lose 20 pounds more.23

Just got back from a diving trip. I am 30 lbs lighter than the last time I wore my wet suit and it fit so much more comfortably. I also was much happier to pose for pictures this time around.26

I'm getting feeling back in my 2nd toe again. I was diagnosed as prediabetic last April and it is what prompted my WLJ. I'm currently down 73 plus lbs and for the 1st time in a year my 2nd toe is not numb anymore (just slightly tingly, but not anywhere close to where it was). I get my A1C checked on Monday and have been worried about it. Maybe this is a good sign? I know this may not sound like much, but for me it is huge! My dad had both legs amputated from complications of diabetes and it eventually took his life.54

Doctor cut my Metformin dosage in half (previous visit three months ago, he removed the Glipizide I was on and reduced my statin dosage from 40 mg to 10 mg).30

Clothes shopping today! Down from size 18 to size 16 jeans, and I got a proper bra fitting done and I'm down from a 38 band to a 36.
A properly fitting bra is like a damn miracle. No wonder my back has been hurting so bad. Shout out to the awesome lady at Nordstrom who took one fast measurement of my ribs and came back with 10 perfect fits. That's skill.38 -
I went to Kohls today and was able to shop in the regular section. Everything from the plus side was toooo big!38

Walking in the sun yesterday, I could swear my shadow just didn't look quite as wide as it once did. (I do understand that that could also be time of day when sun is lower and EVERYBODY's shadow is thinner 😆). It did make me feel good for a moment.39

Just went out on the bike by myself again.
More roads than cycle paths today. Wasn't too busy as it's Sunday so the roads are a little quieter. Nearly got hit off my bike by another "cyclist" (read: silly teenager doing tricks on his bike, showing off to his mate). He did apologise though, which surprised me, normally around here you either get a load of verbal abuse or stabbed (and yes, I mean that - you have to be very careful what you say and to whom you say it. Knife crime is a very real, very scary issue here).
One car spooked me slightly and made my pulse race a little but it was fine.
And I actually really like my new bike. Now I'm getting used to it. I hate to say it but it is a better model than my old bike. Once it's fully set up for me, with the modifications I need to help with the horrible arthritis, it's going to be an amazing bike.28 -
I started mfp in June, so have only been wearing shorts through the summer months.
Today, it is chilly, so threw on my favorite jeans. OMG! They're saggy, baggy elephant big on me! Woohoo! 😃39 -
I had a medical test done at the hospital recently and they brought a bariatric chair to wheel me in and the tech laughed about how tiny I looked in it. I'm FAR from tiny as a 5'8" 170 lb woman. But it was cool in the back of my mind to realize a decade ago at 300 lb I would have possibly needed that chair instead of a regular one.30

Today is exactly 6 months since I started my journey. I went outside for a very long walk and then started sprinting for the 1st time ever to celebrate making it this far. (and to actually see if I could do it!) 6 months and 74 lbs ago my legs and feet felt like lead weights. Today, I just wanted to keep going and going. Tomorrow I see my Dr for the follow up exam. Nervous but excited to see my lab results.41

Going to have to take in my bras because they don't fit right anymore and I'm already on the last set of hooks.
I know I can only do this once due to the fit, then time for all new bras.
Bras are expensive18 -
This is not recent, but yet to come. I am still gonna hate it and hope I can avoid or have somebody do it for me, or not have to do it often; my future NSV will be when I must, the newfound ability (due to hip replacements and better fitness) to comfortably and safely shovel snow this winter! I will still have the added bonus of not having to be anywhere most of the time, so I can afford to wait also.

On Saturday, I felt HOT for the first time in a very long time. I went to a wedding, and due to a delivery mishap, had to wear an unplanned dress. But as soon as I put it on, I was shocked. I kept looking in the mirror and thinking it doesn't really look this good, I must be delusional. But as soon as I got to my friend's house and he opened the door, the look on his face was exactly the same as mine LOL. He hasn't seen me in a long time and ya, I was looking hot. I wore make up and felt like I was absolutely glowing.
I also had 2 ladies at work this morning tell me they are really starting to see a difference, and one said I look like I'm down 3 or 4 sizes! OMG! It's 2, but man .... how good it feels when people say nice things after working so hard for so long.
Happy Monday, everyone!40 -
I got another, "You're looking really good!" compliment at church this weekend.
Also, my dad took a couple pictures of me this weekend and I didn't hate how I looked in them! I thought I looked quite a bit smaller.16 -
