Debbie VA – lovely stove. Great for cooking those low cal meals!
Margaret – awesome falls
Katla – so glad you had such a great trip…even if you did get sick. Feel better fast
Went to the soup kitchen then I had the phone conversation with the lady about Medicare. Yup, I got a supplement, I’ll get a prescription plan but first I want to talk to my MD. Seems the osteoporosis got worse with the Actonel. I was afraid of that. So he wants me to go on Prolia again (yea!). I need to talk to him to see if he can/will fight the insurance co. Seems it’ll cost more if I have the Actonel than the Prolia. Since I don’t inject the Prolia myself, it’s considered medical. Hey, whatever works….Then worked on putting out some of the Halloween decorations.

Hi Gals,
So as you might remember my mom was visiting last weekend and all went fine, well I got a call yesterday that at her house – my brother lives with her – the plumbing was in trouble, it turns out she needs a new line from the house to the city sewer, which is a long run, the house is set back from the street and the line enters on the side yard (weird!) so my brother – who is really failing from cancer- but trained as a plumber – rented a backhoe and is digging the trench then some of his plumber friends will help put in the pipe. Even with all that the job will take 5 days or so, and be $2-3,000 dollars. The biggest issue is 5 days with no water! I told her to come on back up – so I have 5 days with mom – we have not spent 5 days together since I was in college.
This is a bit vent a bit a request for advice, but it is all about older health issues (my 90 year old mom)My mom drove up here and called me from my driveway, after a long and stressful drive, Friday afternoon traffic is awful between her and I so what should have taken 1 hour took 2 .5 hours. But she called because she had had uncontrolled diarrhea and was so embarrassed and needed me to put the dog out and help her into the bathroom. Come to find out in helping her out that this is not the first time this has happened; it’s 1 -2 times a week and her BM’s are the consistency of tar. There ended up being feces on the driveway so I cleaned that up to and very stinky (more than I would expect) and very much like tar… when I washed what was left off the driveway it made a greasy shine like oil would. So this is not “normal” for me, but any input on what is “normal” for a 90 year old??? Thanks! I want to get her into her doctor, but that is not easy.

Long day! 7 hours driving in rain, windy weather. But we had a nice lunch and are at Elmers with middle son, mommy and sweet Athena. She is amazing! I had half of a Tillamook and ham omelet. Some bites of hash browns. I ate well today.👍
Enjoyed our hot tub here at the Double tree Inn.👍
Tomorrow is mega loud chaotic family. 💖

Welcome back Katla, you were missed! Hope you feel better soon and will post some pics.
Barbie Sasha and Bessie, almost like yin/yang
Lisa “childhood memories of orchestral piece s were from either Disney or Bugs Bunny Ride of the Valkyries comes to mind. “ I still smile remembering a horned helmeted Elmer Fudd summoning all the catastrophes, climaxing with “SMOG!” Cathy your mom looks great . . . and so does that cake.
Kim in N CalifScary! Hope you can get her in to the MD soon.
Our line dance leader mentioned whe wanted to go mushroom hunting, but the road to her favorite place has been closed. I invited her up to our little house in the woods, all kinds of strange fungi here, hope some are what she likes. She'll bring her dog which will be good for Tumble as we missed dog group this week. Oh, and we're inaugurating our burn barrel tomorrow. I'm excited, even though I forgot to buy graham crackers for s'mores …

To me that suggests internal bleeding ... or perhaps a very bad reaction to medication. Get her to a Dr.
It may be time for her go into assisted living ... sorry.

Saturday ...
My husband and I picked up a stereo and chest freezer. We decided that since we listen to a lot of music, we might try a small stereo instead of my built-in laptop speakers. We also decided that since my husband has a lot of different veggies starting to grow in the garden, we'd get a second chest freezer. Both (the one we've had for about 10 years and the new one) are small which is OK ... I don't like a large freezer ... but I think two will be convenient.
Then we drove (I drove, my husband navigated) the route for one of the cycling events we're putting on. The event is 200 km long and includes a lot of climbing. I have cycled portions of the route but never the whole thing. I won't be cycling it this time either ... not in shape for that!! However, I am in charge of organising it all so next I have to double check the map & cue sheet, then start thinking about sorting out volunteers. This event doesn't go till Dec 1 ... I've got 4 more events to organise before it ... but it is a very popular event.

morning ladies~
I am awake and having tea.. slept pretty well , but will come home after work and pack things for Toms house..I can stop here during the week to pick up clothes as it is 5 minutes from work and not to far off.
today working and Monday.. then a few days off..
i slept well but still feel exhausted.. that was a whirlwind 2 days
Kim - like Machka said get her to a Dr..with my dad.. he didn't tell me but he was anemic and had colon cancer and we only found out less than a month before he passed.. so get that checked pronto...
and please keep us in the loop.. so hard taking care of aging parents.. now all the wonderful ones I know except for Doris are gone.. will be spending much more time with her...3 -
Morning, afternoon and evening, all,
For Kim:Having dealt with similar issues earlier in the year, I can tell you that they found nothing in my case, after the colonoscopy and everything. Their only suggestion to me was that I add fiber to my diet. Too much fat in the diet can be a driver for tarry, sticky stools, but if the stools are also black, that could be blood entering the stools, and if you can get her there, she definitely needs to see a doctor.
Regarding dealing with it, you can find cottonelle wet wipes in the toilet paper aisle - they're flushable, and quite useful, as they do help control the odor. Can you get her to try the incontinence underwear? They will at least control the incredibly nasty spread of the substances...
Made me happy because I heard from both my kids yesterday - the son is doing well in school, and his work-study job with the veteran's office at the school also has him socializing with more people, which he needs, as well. He says, "i got friends that stay till past midnight and girlies that visit me and watch tv with me lol." If that's a euphemism, that's fine, and if it's not, that's fine, too. He's a social creature, and gets lonely without a group of people to reach out to fairly regularly. He's applying to be a resident assistant next semester, which would give him a room of his own, and another $1,000 a month.
My daughter is at her in-laws' house - and they get along great... but with her family there, and her pregnant sister-in-law visiting as well, there are six dogs and seven people sharing one bathroom in a two-bedroom apartment--and two of the seven people are very pregnant. And they don't leave until Monday morning. She says she can't walk barefoot in the house 'cause the carpet is... not something you want to walk barefoot on. And she's at that horrible stage of any move where, for the time being, you are literally homeless. It's NOT a good feeling. I feel for her, but she gets her new house on base at Fort Riley on Monday, so she's only got a few days left...
I've got some furniture moving around to do today to get my sewing room set back up, so... I'll get at that as soon as the hubby is up and getting coffee, another couple hours in my future. Rest day from the gym today, the knee is a little tweaked. But lots to get done.
Later y'all,
Love,

Top of the day, evening, or morning to you all.
I am attempting to catch up and found my last post commenting on everyone’s adventures was back on page 36. A mere 8 days ago. So please excuse the long update.
Machka – Your bike rides are scenic. I am really glad the two of you were able to meet the whole life-saving crew and were able to get the full story.
Karen – Josephine is a beautiful young lady and she is an inspiration to us all. She continues to smile and emit her light to those around her. I can see her strength and determination in her pictures.
Kim– It was good to hear you were not caught up in a fire situation. Everyone asks how can you live in Florida with the hurricanes and I say I have lots of time to prepare and leave, if I want. Fire is absolutely the scariest of all things to me. So happy you were able to save some of the food at the camp. You’re very creative!
Ginny – I hope the knee is feeling better and you are able to enjoy your normal activities. I can appreciate your one step, next step walks down flights of stairs. I own a townhome and know that sometime in the future I will have to sell it and find a single-story home.
Janet – Matthew is adorable!
Allie – It is wonderful you received your sign. I hope you have been able to get the rest you need and deserve. I am very happy the scale is moving in the right direction for you. I just read about the accident – life has not been easy for you lately. Sending positive and healing thoughts your way.
Michelle – I am still trying to figure out how you bake so many wonderful things and manage to stay away from the sweet treats. I broke down and went out for some chocolate hummus a few days ago and managed to eat it in two sessions. It is something I cannot buy in single-serve units. And, obviously have no self-control. So for now I have to ban it from the house!
Lisa – You definitely had a full house! It seems like you had a wonderful time while everyone was there. And, like you and your DH, Charlie and I enjoyed our time together and minimally socialized. This was not a problem when he was alive; we had a great life together. But, for me, even 11 years later I am still having challenges building a circle of friends. Smokey the Cat has the same reactive to intruders within his domain. He hides while visitors are here and does not come out until everyone has left. Of course with a little cat-titude.
Lanette – I am enjoying your Master Gardener stories. Go and buy an orchid! I simply love mine and each has its own likes and dislikes. I am fortunate to live in Florida where I can throw them outside and they thrive. I am currently experimenting with growing Phalaenopsis indoors. I have not yet invested in more expensive varieties because growing them does take a little getting used to and finding just the right spot in the house can be challenging. I do find they are forgiving.
Barbie – Tracking water is a challenge for me too. I found a good insulated bottle. It holds 3.5 cups and I make sure I drink at least one by lunchtime and second by dinnertime. One of the gals at work bought a BuildLife water bottle. It has the time of day and little motivational sayings next to each hour. She loves it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C4WLRPL?pf_rd_p=183f5289-9dc0-416f-942e-e8f213ef368b&pf_rd_r=QWYRFF9SCGT3DRVRB22V
Pip – Love all of the puppy pictures.
Luci – You look great! You seem very happy to be celebrating the upcoming arrival of your granddaughter, Iris.
KJ – Welcome to the world little Miguel. Your daughter is beautiful and see looks like such a relaxed mother. I love the picture of her and the two boys.
Heather – Hope you’re feeling better and were able to catch up with your rest.
Rita – Sorry to hear you’re having such challenges with your medications. I hope things are settling down for you.
All – It seems many of us have posting issues where we are typing away and the message disappears. I am now using Word to reply and then copy and paste it in. Yes, two steps, but I am able to read through multiple pages and type up responses.
I made it through to page 44. If I have missed anyone it is not intentional. I am trying to catch up.
Hugs and positive thoughts to all.

Good morning beautiful ladies 💐💐💐.My Hubby is a great guy, most of the time.He usually thinks of others.
I went to Busch gardens after work with my daughter last night. We had a blast. Its hallow scream so the freaks are out at night.Thank y’all for your input about ocular migraine.Thinking about when it happens, probably stress.I used to get premenstrual migraines and those were almost debilitating. But like we say,Some good comes from menopause, not much.I’m hoping to get some pictures of my fall decorations and will show y’all.

I think I'll be glad when October is over ... way, way too busy!! Every day has been full on and it continues right into the beginning of November.
Anyway, tonight, my husband and I went to the symphony ... it's something we do every so often. I especially wanted to go to this one because of the first piece:
Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain
Machka in Oz
So far, in the past 3 weeks ...- I completed and submitted a large submission at work.
- I made some good progress on a 70+ page instruction manual for those submissions.
- And of course ... I do work full-time.
- I finished the last classes of my current unit in my MITS program.
- I did a presentation as part of my last assignment.
- I completed and handed in a 120 page assignment.
- I finished my taxes.
- I started my husband's taxes.
- My husband and I attended a Wordpress meeting to get moving again on our websites.
- My husband and I attended a meeting at the local Brain Injury Association to discuss some future projects which we may become involved with. Some may remember that we were involved with a video resource for people going through brain injury.
- I took my husband to an open house at the helicopter place to meet and thank the people who saved his life, and then to the ICU to meet and thank the nurses who took such good care of him when he was in a coma for 3 weeks.
- We have attended physio pilates on Mondays.
- We prepared our house for a 6-monthly house inspection.
- I did a lot of work on the advertising for the upcoming events for our cycling club.
- I have started some route checking for the upcoming events I organise.
- We attended the symphony.
I think that's it ... In some ways it feels like there was more.
And it still continues ...

Did a belly Butt and Thigh DVD. I thought it would be longer. Well, this is the first time I used it. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Walk On DVD
Made some soup last night to have in the freezer when I need it. Will make chocolate chip cookies for Vince and need to marinate the pork chops, salmon and pork tenderloin. Pretty soon we won’t be able to use the grill so I’m stocking up on what we can use.
Kim – I’d definitely get your mother to a doctor. I don’t like the sound of the grease in her stool. Is she maybe taking something like glycerine to keep her stools soft? I remember after I had a hemmerhoidectomy I was told to take glycerine (or was it something else, but I think it was glycerine). I forget how much I was to take each day. I had to take it to keep my stools soft until I healed. I remember going to the bathroom and I could see oil on the top of the water. When I went back to regular eating and no longer taking the glycerine, the oil cleared up. I also remember seeing oil spots on my underwear. If you can’t get your mother to a doctor, I remember reading about how doctors have virtual office visits, Denise used it once. She might feel more comfortable not going to an office but doing this from your home.

I told her to come on back up – so I have 5 days with mom – we have not spent 5 days together since I was in college.

Kimthat sounds like digested blood. Your mom needs to go to the ED. I think she is bleeding from somewhere higher in her GI system (stomach, duodenum, small intestine, or R side of colon. Digested blood is black, sticky, tarry and smells horrible. If left to sit in the toilet it will develop a maroon halo around it.3 -

Agreed.https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/blood-in-stool
https://www.medicinenet.com/stool_color_changes/article.htm
"Black tarry stools
Black stools are a worrisome symptom because it may be due to a large amount of bleeding into the digestive system, most often from the upper GI tract including the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. Red blood cells are broken down by digestive enzymes in the intestine and turn the stool black. These stools tend to be tar-like (sticky) and foul smelling. This can be a medical emergency; black tarry stools should not be ignored."3 -

Terri ~ Enjoyed looking at your colorful photos.
Margaret ~ The Fall photos are lovely. Trees have not begun to turn in GA yet. Just got into cooler (45 *) over the last few days.
Just did the at home colon test which I guess I needed to do since I've never had a colonoscopy. Very easy but can't figure out how to fold the return envelope for the life of me. Mechanically dense!

Iron supplements can cause tarry stools too; however, I would be more concerned about a possible GI bleed from diverticulosis.

I have spent since last Monday trying to get cuaght up on the October thread as I had missed a week. It was hard but I was able to finally do it today.
Allie - I’m so sorry for the loss of your dear Father in Law. He will be missed I’m sure.
Kelly - congratulations on the new addition. He is a handsome addition to the family.
There was much more I wanted to comment on and thought I would remember but I forgot.
I have been busy at work learning yet another role. I am taking over payroll for the staff and it has been a tremendous learning curve. I have to learn three collective agreements for the different unions that we employ. I have never worked in a Union Environment so this has really been an eye opener. The system we use for payroll is DOS based. I learned DOS back in 1995, but have not used it since 2000. I feel that I’ve been teleported back in time. Last week was my first payroll on my own and there were several errors. We have made some changes to processes to try to alleviate them in the future.
My health journey is in a terrible place. I have gained 15 of the 25 pounds I lost back and I am struggling terribly to find the determination to get back on the right path. The only food I am wanting is junk and even on days that i do make a healthy option for my lunch if someone offers something else I buy it. This not only costs me money but also is costing me my waistline. Maybe I’ll just leave money at home this week. That will make me have to say no. The other struggle I am having is getting my water in. I just keep forgetting to drink it at work. I fill my bottle and it sits there. Maybe I need to set an alarm for this.
Hugs to those that need them and high fives to those with successes.
