Don't eat your exercise calories

are you sure you really meant to title your post like you did? are you putting it out there that we don't eat our exercise cals? if so, i honestly don't think you understand the goals of MFP and the way it's set up. not eating them may work for you and others for a while...but low and behold, there will be a plateau..... and then additional posts.
Sorry but not eating back my exercise cals have been working for me for a long time & until now that I'm on a maintenence stage, I'm still losing weight! Please stop making that silly comment & generalizing us who don't believe in eating back all exercise calories thing. If you're a believer of that then its up to you & no one cares for that but never question us because our bodies & metabolism are different! Sorry if I may sound harsh but I find your comment very insulting. But let's face it, we cannot trust 100% of what the database says regarding the amount of calories burned & the amount of calories in every food that we eat. No wonder some people have a hard time losing weight despite logging everything in here.0 -
I usually don't eat mine unless I'm hungry. If I do I try nit to eat over half but usually I don't log my exercise so I don't see those calories0

You know what happens when you don't eat your exercise calories, don't you?

My point was that no plan works for everyone..eat them or not it's up to you and your body..some of us have to eat some of them while others don't..it's not right to generalize either way I am under the direction of both a trainer and a doctor and for my weight loss, i have to eat some of them but it depends how active/what the calorie burns are. 6 days a week, i burn over 1000 calories a day so if i stuck to 1200, it wouldn't work for me (I tried)..I think because i used to have an ED that these posts bother me more..the point of MFP is to find your balance..0

I enjoy every finger lickin calorie I burn. I do
2/3 cardio and 1/3 freeweights. Here are my results. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/330159-todays-bmi-progress-9-weeks. I eat 6X a day and I'm never hungry. Starvation mode sucks. Burning mode rules!!!0 -

Most of the time I do eat them, unless I really kicked butt and burned more than I feel like eating. I would love not to, but I'm so absolutely fatigued with "dieting" to the point where I'm hungry all the time. It never works for me. Can I say it again? I'm so damn tired of it! I'm going to trust the calorie deficit MFP has programed for me and try to stick with it. So far it's working. Slowly, but hopefully slow progress is lasting progress. If you are satisfied and you are losing weight without hitting a plateau, perhaps because we are all different that's what works for your body, and MFP has miscalculated your true BMR. For me, I eat them, because I'm learning a healthy lifestyle, not dieting.0

I use MFP to it's fullest potential -- friends, forums, and tracking food AND exercise. It seems half assed to not log your exercise just to "trick" yourself into eating less calories. Part of this experience is to learn accountability. I personally do not eat my exercise calories back because I burn a good number on my workout days and I just can't possibly eat that much. My choice, it works for me. Do whatever works for you. But I think robbing yourself of all the tools at your disposal here doesn't make much sense.0

You have to start from knowing how many calories you need to maintain your weight - then subtract 500 from that to lose 1 pound a week. My metabolism is through the floor - my maintenance calories is only 1536. I subtracted 500 from that and got my goal of 1036. Of course, that's too few calories to a) get proper nutrition and b) feel satisfied. SO, I have become an exercise animal! Please LOOK AT MY DIARIES. I do at least 500 calories of exercise EVERY DAY and I eat most of them back. I have a daily calorie deficit of at least 500 calories, if not more. Usually more. I'm not losing weight as fast as most people would with this kind of deficit, but I'm still losing.
I truly believe that a 1200 calorie, automatic "goal" is STUPID. Go to a health club or a doctor that can do metabolic testing and find out your resting metabolic rate, your total calorie requirement based upon your lifestyle and subtract 500 calories per day as your "goal" if you want to lose a pound a week. Know how many calories you burn in "fat burning" zone and "cardio zone," and at your anaerobic threshold. Get a cheapie heart rate monitor - with that, you will always know how many calories you burn in a workout. You will always know your calorie deficit. That's the only way you can REALLY KNOW you're on the right path to losing weight.

The real question is... Is she TRULY pretty, or is it just because she's making the sexy face and seductive gestures?0 -

How many of people who vote for eat have been successful, I mean reached their goals? and how many of those who vote for nay? i was just curious...
"It works for me so far" is not quite convincing, just yet.0 -

Find people on MFP who are "success stories" and ask what they do......0 -

I read somewhere that if you don't eat your calories back that fat turns into muscle.
haha fat & muscle cells are two very different body masses & its impossible for the one to become another. Its like saying that an apple can become an orange.
I think you might be able to use this:
It was very thoughtful of you to offer it to her. I think she should have to pay you for it.0 -

1200 calorie sounds a hard number. I was wondering how could one number work for all?
Is there a sweet spot we all could find (someday after trial and error)?0 -
Good idea, will try this one for sure... Lin0

 loving some of the responses. All good humour!
I have to eat my exercise calories or I am starving! I exercise not just to lose weight, but because I love running and I want to get better, improve my times and compete in races. If I don't fuel my body properly then I won't get better. So that's why I eat mine back. I am still losing weight. If if I stop then I will decrease my calories by 50-100 a day and see what happens. By being on 1400 (About 1600-1700 after exercise ) I know I have somewhere to go if I stop losing weight and hit the 'plateau'. I wouldn't want to go below 1200 (so 1400-1500 after exercise) as I don't think my body would be able to funtion well. Exercise and performace are important to me. I can understanding reducing to half exercise cals...but not eating any is not great long term. But again its only my opnion. Wanted to give my insit on why I do eat my exercise cals...secretly I'm just a greedy cow! :laugh:0 -
