Thanksgiving: What are you bringing to the table?

I made baked macaroni and cheese.

I over-volunteer lol. It's just me (plus my husband and 3 kids) and my parents and sister this year for Thanksgiving. I volunteered me and my husband for: Turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, jello pretzel dessert thing, apple pie (my husband's favorite) and I'll probably bring stuff to make whipped cream because homemade is so much better than coolwhip! I LOVE THANKSGIVING! Best holiday ever.2
-
Cranberry Sauce (I make it with cinnamon, nutmeg, and Grand Marnier)
Bread or dinner rolls (not sure what recipe yet)
A veggie side dish or dessert if my SIL asks for something else
I will also be providing part of the entertainment. My last pumpkins will be going for the annual pumpkin bowling tournament. Should be interesting this year because they have frozen and thawed a couple of times and are really mushy. We bowl until all pumpkins are smashed which won't take long, unlike other years.
My brother and SIL host the dinner every year (I do Christmas and my niece does Easter). They make the turkey, dressing, and corn pudding. The rest of us fill in with whatever other dishes are needed. My nephew usually makes a pie and the potatoes. My niece and her husband usually do a veggie side and appetizers (she is a marketing director for the cheese division of the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board so she always has great cheese to bring).

I won my ex's old friends in the break-up, and they're ordering for the second year in a row (we went waaaaay overboard when we would cook). I'll be making avalanche bark (like rice krispie treats with white chocolate and peanutbutter) and schmancy rice krispie treats for their son with celiac. And because I'm not a big fan of pie. Might do a pumpkin pudding, too, since it's stupidly easy.
avalanche bark sounds amazing and i just downloaded the recipe!!!1 -
Not much since I have to work the Dark Thursday holiday sale.
I went to Aldis & bought a huge container of delicious looking stuffing to eat & some pulled pork (I'm not much of a turkey fan) on my lunch. Maybe squeeze in a pint of Talenti's Pumpkin Pie Gelato if I can find it this year.

Um, is there a recipe for that, or if not, general approximate proportions? (Sounds yum!)0 -
I usually bring mashed potatoes but thought I would make scalloped potatoes this year. Also, will bring canned black olives. I know the grandchildren really like macaroni and cheese, so maybe will do that also. I definitely will bring a low calorie vegetable dish, too.
Thanksgiving will be at my daughter's house. My son-in-law is a chef. He always brines a turkey and does his magic with other dishes. We sure have a feast at their house.3 -

Ask and ye shall receive:
Tipsy Cranberry Sauce
1 bag of cranberries (12 ounces)
3 Tbl sugar (more or less to taste, Honey can be used too)
2 to 3 tablespoons Cointreau or Grand Marnier
2 Tbl water
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon grated fresh orange rind. Optional. (I omit the rind and use the upper amount of Grand Marnier)
On the stove in a non aluminum pan mix cranberries, sugar, and water. Cook it down for about 20 minutes on medium heat until most of the berries have popped and it's the consistency of thick jam. Adjust sugar to taste. Add spices and liqueur and cool. This can be done in the microwave instead. Cook on high for 5 minutes, then in 1-2 minute increments until the right consistency. Add remaining ingredients and cool.
Can be refrigerated for a couple of weeks in an airtight container, frozen, or canned in a water bath for 10 minutes.
Each bag makes about 2 cups. I canned 9 half pints using 4 bags of cranberries (Aldi has them for 99¢ a bag right now).

I use pretty much the same recipe except I use the juice from the orange I zested in place of water, and a smidge of ground cloves.1 -
My nephew is taking over the turkey/stuffing this year, so I volunteered to make my sweet potato casserole. I also voluntold my kid he is handling the yeast rolls and green beans. I'll probably also make apple cider syrup to go over vanilla ice cream for dessert.3
-
My family has all the main savory dishes covered. I'll probably just bring a dessert of some sort. Peanut Butter Fudge or Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies probably.2
-
I might make sweet potato casserole, the last one I made was a huge hit... Also, these pumpkin cookies with cream cheese frosting that are awesome. Not necessarily the healthiest things but they are super yummy!1

Thanksgiving will be at my house! I’m making a Turkey and sausage gumbo. Traditions here in the south 🥰🦃4

Looks so good. I volunteer to taste test!
In fact, I volunteer to taste test everything.1 -
I volunteered for pumpkin pie, because I like making it, and I can't eat dairy - so it makes sense to just make it myself.
I also volunteered for mashed potatoes, for the same reasons as the pie... with the added bonus that everybody who likes mashed potatoes at all like mine. Apparently I make them well, so I've been the mashed potato queen in our family since high school.4 -
Tofu turkey for my vegan wife, pork rind stuffing for her keto sister, a book on overcoming hypochondria for my ibs/crohns mother in law, and some pizza for dad who works for Butterball.10

Why have I never thought of this. Super idea! Do you roast the mini pumpkins, too? Oh, I have to try this. So much more fun than using a pumpkin shell as a tureen. I can totally see roasting mini pumpkins and filling them with roasted squash soup. Mmmmmmmm.....

I'm not sure if I'll be part of a Thanksgiving celebration this year or not. Life changes and all....
I used to typically bring a few things:- Vegetarian shepherds' pie with lots of mushrooms -- as many wild mushrooms as I can afford to take from my stash, plus some button mushrooms from the store. Mashed potato crust. It always gets requested. It's based on a recipe from Mollie Katzen, but I've made it my own over the years. Used to be a real pain and time consuming, but over the years, I've got it down.
- Buttermilk cornbread sticks and triangles. I make a double batch, and there's never any left over. I have some cast iron stick pans. Lots of crust. One triangle pan. Mostly corn meal, polenta, and masa with just a little whole wheat flour. The secret is butter in the preheated cast iron and then a rub of butter on top about five minutes before it's done. One year we were at a very small gathering, and I didn't have enough stick pans, so I made a round. Our hosts used it to make their stuffing. Mmmmmm.
- I'm more of a savory person than sweet. We had a group of friends who always did a potluck on Thanksgiving; we'd move to a different house each year. I would always bring a savory pumpkin pie. It had millet, onions, lots of garlic, and some other yummy things. I would bring it in, put it on the table with the main course, go put my coat away, and then go move it BACK to the main course table because some helpful person would ALWAYS move it to the dessert table. Someone would get a big surprise.
- My ex taught me to make a stuffed mushroom mushroom stuffing. I may make some this year whether I go to a celebration or not. Remove the stems from some button mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus). Save them to add to the stuffing mix. Lightly saute the caps, then place them open-side up in a baking dish. Cook up the stuffing with LOTS of mushrooms (usually we have plenty of chanterelles still around Thanksgiving). Fill the baking dish and bake. Each serving has delicious roased mushrooms in the bottom. Mmmmmm....
I actually just cooked a batch of chanterelles I picked a couple weeks ago today. I freeze them in vacuum bags, and I will bring some out for whatever dish or dishes I make for Thanksgiving.

A few years ago, we were doing Thanksgiving with just a couple friends. Really low key. Nice night. My partner made a pumpkin pie among other things. She always went to the extra trouble of cutting leaf shapes out of extra crust and floating them on top. Nice touch, and really pretty. She also brought some heavy cream and a bowl and whisk. We took turns whisking the cream. My friend's wife asked at some point when it was her turn, "Why are we doing this?" We all had to laugh. She had never made whipped cream from cream before!2
-
NOW I'm hungry.
Been invited to my sister's and have no idea what to bring. She'll be doing the traditional stuffed turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, but I'll have to ask her what else she'd like. Any ideas for healthy add-ons?
And the mac n cheese picture reminded me I'm hosting a potluck and offered to make that. I've made it before and it comes out good but does anyone have a great recipe they'd share? That picture looks perfect.0 -
My parents are hosting. I will bring the entertainment (toddler and pooch). My mom is thinking of making bread pudding in which case I will offer to bake some bread for her to use. Otherwise I will just help with certain things like the sauce for the green beans and spinach artichoke dip once we get to her house.1
