What is your "Petty" Reason to Lose Weight?

No worries, I'm not offended just smirking at the humor. I like the "eye" and up and down twice over look just not the obscene gestures that involve exposing tongue and hand particularly between the fingers. No, I will not demonstrate. Today I got a delightful compliment from a colleague, she greeted me, "Hey Skinny!" With a friendly look of admiration and a bit of jealousy.
So we don't have the right buttons - need a 'grossed out' by the first bit (amazed that people really do that and don't realise the only thing that gets them is a bop on the nose) and loving the last part3 -
I just want to feel comfortable in my own body. I don't think I've ever felt that way. I've practically lived in jeans and tees/sweatshirts my whole life and felt like a frump. I want to feel pretty and stylish. I want to actually enjoy going clothes shopping!! So many times I went shopping for clothes and had to buy ugly stuff because there was just nothing cute or stylish in my current size or I just felt like 'why bother'.
I want my PCP to look at my charts and go 'wow what have you been doing?' I want my blood pressure and numbers to be normal. I want to walk upstairs without getting winded.
I went to the ER a year ago due to some strange virus that had made me terribly ill. The dr. called me skinny(I was 135). As sick as I felt, that part made me feel good. But then during 2019 somehow I gained 30#.
Yeh, I've got a mile long list of reasons I want to see my goal weight, many are petty, some are not.8 -
I want to wear children's clothes so I can save money lol
That and I want to eat whatever I want on occasions like Christmas without people judging me6 -
TheMrWobbly,
You are so cheeky... I like it!!! LOL2 -
Not sure if it counts as “petty” but it’s definitely not a typical reason. I don’t want to be on AFV (America’s Funniest Videos). My family loves watching them, but it dawned on me one day that a large percentage of them were people who were overweight trying to do somewhat everyday things. Even at the point of just grazing the “obese” line on the BMI scale I was uncomfortable, heavy on my feet, and incredibly self conscious. I want to move! I want to run and jump with my kids!
Watching another round of AFV last night and my husband sighed, then chuckled... he said when people ask me why, my response will be “because of AFV.” Yep!12 -
Bump
Let's get Petty! Lol 😅 I need some more entertainment.3 -
I watched someone get super skinny and act like she was better than everyone else because of it. She didn't do it in a healthy way and she even had liposuction and a tummy tuck. Well needless to say I am losing weight the right way and keeping it off and she is putting all of hers back on because she went right back to her bad habits. I am secretly enjoying watching her $30,000 going to waste because she is now close to being larger than I am. I have spent nothing, just hard work and determination.14

I have an acquaintance who is VERY similar, except she lied to most people about how she lost weight (the only people who know are those to whom she slipped up & blurted the truth to right after gastric bypass surgery).
I don't have an issue with people using weight loss surgery if it's what helps them. And, it's her choice what she tells people with regards to her health - that's her own private business. What I do have a problem with is that she is using her lies as a way to put people down. Example, said in a very self-righteous, condescending voice: "How did I lose weight? Well, I just watched what I ate. I guess if you ever want to stop being overweight you'll just have to learn to do the same."
It was her tone of voice that bothered me most - she meant to be cruel. My petty reason for losing weight is so I can look these same people in the eye, tell them how I lost weight just using MFP, then offer them kindness & encouragement on their own journey. The petty part is that I hope she overhears me.20 -
I just want to look hot for my age and be able to wear most things.14

Dating as a bigger guy suuuuuuuucks11

Feel beautiful and confident in my wedding dress. One year away to get there12

My aunt always jokes that once women get to a certain age, they all end up shaped like potatoes. This is a pretty spot-on observation in my family. I will stop the cycle of obesity and inactivity- I refuse to ever end up looking like a potato.
I have a close friend who has always been in great shape and looks good in everything she wears, even when she was pregnant at age 36. I want to be able to just throw on whatever is in my closet and look as good as she does.
Also... Dresses and shorts. I have always struggled with wearing them because showing my legs was a no-go, aaaaaand chaffing. I live in Florida. I really need to be able to get some air and sun on these legs!14 -
💪Better sex
💪To not be the fat sister
💪To show my MIL that you don't have to have surgery to do it 🙊
Other than that my reasons are basic. Health, looks, energy and being an active mom.12 -
So I posted on here a while ago that one of my petty reasons was to be light enough for my guy friends to pick me up off the ground.
Well, just recently, I was playing beer pong and I sunk a ton of shots in a row and my partner (6'2" guy, lol) got so excited he picked me up and swung me around.
I'm just gonna say that the petty reason was totally worth it, and if that's what motivates you than keep at it31 -
I have so many petty reasons to lose weight that it's unbearable.
From being cheated on multiple times
To being verbally abused by family members
I'm just telling you one thing: I promise that when I strut in to the annual 4th of July party this year, I'm going to be the best looking me there ever was, and the people I want to stick it to will be eating their words.23 -
I know that many of us choose to lose weight because we want to have a healthy lifestyle and feel better about ourselves, but c'mon, we also have "I'm going to stick it to X" reasons.
For me, it's because I don't want to be the fat gay cousin. I want to be the hot gay cousin. I also want people's minds to be blown when I can lift heavy boxes by myself.
What's yours?
Other than getting into my 30s and wanting to get/stay in shape for health reasons....I got dumped by my live-in boyfriend of two years back in June. I know I’ll run into him some day, hoping to be at my goal weight when I do.5 -
I go to an event every summer where I run into the same a**holes I've known since high school. I've already won the game of life with my amazing career and partner, I'd like to also look smoking hot as the icing on the cake.
Petty? Absolutely. But seriously, these guys were (and still are) THE WORST18 -

Not looking like a potato was also my motivation...My family is staying relatively thin and I was the potato. No more.10 -
Need to be strong, flexible, fit and healthy ...and really want to look good with my husband who gets sexier as he gets older. lol I have fallen off the wagon over the past 6 months but starting today -I'm back!15
