I ordered a dress from Debenhams as a reward for another 5kg lost and got it slightly smaller than I was expecting to fit (a UK size 16). Well it fits! It is stretchy material which I wasn’t expecting so not sure if I am actually a size 16 but it sure does look cute on me!21

I am comfortable wearing (faux) leather pants for the first time in my life. They are a size medium!

Kinda new here. What, may I ask, is an NSV?
I can tell by the posts that they are victories, or new found realizations of the results of our efforts at losing wight and getting health.
I am three months into my new lifestyle, and a couple of mine are being able to walk down steps like a normal person, and not sideways, one step at a time. I can work for longer peiods of time without needing to sit down and rest, and my back doesn't begin to spasm after standing for ten minutes. I love how much better I feel after only 30 lbs!!25 -

NSV = Non-scale victory
Congratulations!! Those are fantastic NSVs.2 -

She's at university and has been sending her dad and I the most horrible messages - think along terms of "you don't know me, you don't take my feelings into consideration, you don't love me".
We must have done something really, really awful for her to be like this, don't you think? But no, it's all over the colour of a room we are getting ready for her - a room that didn't even exist a couple of months ago - up until now she's had to sleep on a mattress on her small sister's bedroom floor. Very upsetting, as DH and I have worked really hard to get this ready for her and have put everything else aside so that she will have her own space.
Clearly, in her 20-year old's eyes, we have failed as parents.
The NSV is that I did NOT respond to these hurtful accusations by hitting the food cupboards.
Good job for not hitting the cupboards! Eating will not make the messages different. I hope your daughter smartens up.
Perhaps she needs someone to let her know that she is welcome to continue sleeping on the floor if she's going to be ungrateful and rude.
Or, you know, not welcome at all.
I am ashamed to say that I told her that she was welcome to sleep elsewhere if the room colour was not to her liking . . . her response was, "WHERE?". Hmm. Not my problem. Not this time.
The really stupid thing is that she hasn't even SEEN the room. It looks really good. My teenage sons are totally perplexed by her extreme reaction to it all. As am I.
Is this her first term at Uni? Not defending rude/ungrateful behaviour by any means but I have had friends whose newly fledging children can be difficult if home changes at all without their input. They kind of feel that home is getting ready to launch them out on their own and that they don't 'count' any more. Odd, as you have created the room especially for her but young adults are not always rational. Perhaps she feels as though you waited for her to leave before finishing the room! Some of them also feel the pressure of 'doing for themselves' more difficult than they anticipated, especially if course work has been demanding and Mum isn't on hand with encouraging words and cups of tea I am sure she will be fine when she gets home and will appreciate all you've done to make her room feel special. Meanwhile - well done for not eatng all the Christmas biscuits and sweets before she gets there8 -
Midwife... I still am catching up with comments from previous years and I think it was you who said that your daughter was very tentative about heading to university. Plus, your talk of the time you spend with your children makes me believe that you homeschool? I can see how the transition might be difficult, especially if your family has moved and she is no longer part of the daily closeness among the rest of you. Still, family stressors make it so hard not to turn to food. My weight loss journey started after a fight during a family vacation helped me realize that I am responsible for my happiness and well-being as family won’t always behave as we would hope. Good for you for continuing to look after your health. I really enjoy the stories of your family. Best wishes on this situation!7

It looks like the bottom half of a SUPER HERO! Congrats!13 -
A little off topic from fitness. My credit score went up 15 points. I've been rebuilding it for a few years now and I'm proud of the hard work. Congrats to others.38

I did a max deadlift in the early summer and it was 135lbs for one rep. Today I did a max 3 rep and I hit 165!32

I went to a bounce house park with my son and climbed up a 15ft slide with no issues or struggle. I would have never been able to do that in the past35

IWillTakeBackMyLife wrote: »It sure doesn't feel like a victory... all of my clothes just don't fit. All of my shirts don't fit. All of my pants don't fit. All of my shorts don't fit. Every time I have to go outside I have to wear a pair of jeans as high up my stomach as possible, wrap a belt around my ribs and wear the exact same medium-size coat that was given to me as a hand me down by a friend and pull it far over the jeans so people can't tell. The coat is the ONLY thing I have that fits even a little. Even then every time I'm carrying groceries home I have to constantly stop, put them down and pull my pants up over and over.
I simply don't have the money to buy clothes so IDK what I'm going to do. Around the house it's fine to wear unfitting clothes but going outside I only have 1 outfit that I have to constantly keep washed and ready to go. In June I got rid of all my old clothes that were too big and bought new ones that were tight so they'd last long as I lost weight. Now they're far too big and have already been for a long time.
When I finally do get new clothes it's probably gonna be the same lol. It's bittersweet. At least it means I'm getting closer and closer to one day being able to buy clothes that will last!
Take in your "too big" clothes to goodwill and get a store credit! Then you can shop your size!!17 -
I was on a business trip in Asia and I managed to keep my fitness regime up. Running outside was not possible part of the trip and though I don't like it I did run on the treadmill. As a result I could go back to my normal schedule immediately upon my return.22

Didn't eat a whole mini loaf of homemade pumpkin bread given as a Christmas gift for lunch but rather ate 2 slices and shared the rest with 3 other people. Before mfp, I wouldn't even think about how much calories Im putting in so it caused me to share more generously with more people.21

Went to Primark and tried on some size 16UK clothes yesterday. I could get into it all! Although some of it was pretty tight. It wasn’t long ago (4 months ago) that I was too big for Primark which I suspect has quite generous sizing. They seem to go up to size 22 in most things too.20

Just realised last night that I can actually cross my legs now. I'd always just crossed at the ankles instead because of huge thighs.

I usually workout in a gym with no mirrors. Last night I tried a class in one of the group fitness classes that is more of a studio with big mirrors. I noticed that I'm getting some guns! Seriously my arms are slimming down and showing some serious muscle that I've built with lifting.30

My pants "settle" once I hang my keys off the belt loop and fill my pockets with screw drivers, flash drives, pens, phone, notebooks and lip balm.
At some point in the last 5 months of being overweight, I got into the habit of hitching my pants up every time I stand and massaging the muffin top back down under the waist band.
I was doing it today and feeling somewhat anxious that something about my body didn't feel right.
...
The muffin top is missing and there is nothing to hang my waist-band on. Time to start drying my pants on high heat...28 -
Bought a shirt yesterday and didn’t even try it on first. Felt good to be able to just grab something off the rack and be confident that it would fit and look good. Sure enough, fits like a glove.18

It has always swelled up huge in the past, a lot, when being on my feet for hours...and I also used to always get hives on my legs due to uticaria.11
