I think it will be a good idea to find a good pair of road running shoes for overpronation but EVERY SINGLE MANUFACTURER has a lot of great reasons why their shoe is the best. How the heck am I supposed to know for sure?!?
Anyway- new shoes, yay! $76 but if you count back in the $40 i am owed and will receive from a friend then I only spent $36.
I too would recommend getting fitted at a running store. I’ve tried on so many different type and can really tell a difference. The great thing about ruining stores (I go to Fleet Feet) is there return policy..90 days! Has come in handy when I bought a pair that I thought felt great I store but after a couple of runs, they just didn’t work. Back they went and tried another Brooks Glycerin and they so far are great! I overpronate as well, and have kinda high arches.1 -
@PastorVincent @Elise4270 @quilteryoyo I'll pass along your kind remarks.
She is a Weight Watchers woman.
P.S. This earned me a kiss!!!
Woohoo!1 -
One weird thing that happened during the run though, I was getting extremely drowsy, to the point that I would run five or six strides with my eyes closed, wake up for a few seconds, and close them again. It got slightly better during the faster part, but the moment I hit the cooldown I was falling asleep again. Anyone ever experienced anything like that? Any idea why?
Hmm... what happens to me on longer runs is sleepy eyes and uncontrollable yawning... ‘lift the chest up and breathe deeper’ I was told, and that works to stop it somewhat.
Maybe try that too?1 -
Happy New Year! 7.82 miles to start the year!
I was only planning 10k, but I was feeling good, so I decided to just do another loop. I ran at the park today which has 1.97 mile loop around the lake. So I ended up doing 4 laps. But man was it crowded. I run this park a lot, and usually it’s ok, but a lot of weaving today with all the families and dogs, and bikers out for New Years Day.
Still had a great time.
Time to take down the tree and all the other Christmas stuff.. back to normal time..
And going to make lasagna in my new Instant Pot! I’ve already made several things and it’s been great!8 -
Happy New Year everyone!
My goal for January will be to run 40 miles! I know it is a bit low compared to others, but if I know me (and I think I do), if I aim too high, I will get discouraged and probably not follow through. Another goal that I will be completing this year will be to run at LEAST one mile a day.
I am so excited to get started! Good luck everyone!!15 -

@mslien31 welcome! that sounds like a great goal! How it compares to others matters not one iota. Goals are individual and personal and should never be compared to others. Every runner starts at the same place.6 -
Just a short 5K this morning. Trying to get off on the right foot this year 😏 After 10 days of no running, it felt hard, even though I was going at an easy pace, just under 30 minutes. HR was high (134), no where close to my usual 119 easy pace. But the good news was I had no leg pain 😁 I'll take that over speed any day. Happy New Year everyone!19

Run on New Years Eve as well as New Years Day. ( DONE! 12/31 ran 1.52 miles & 1/1 ran 1.71 miles)
Strava: 5K challenge & "Fleet Feet", run or walk a min of 3x/week for 4 weeks.
Run for 15 - 20 miles.
1/1 - Ran 1.71 miles (1.71 run, 13.29 - 18.29 remains)
Crazy, but I really wanted to earn those little "virtual" awards or badges on my Garmin, got the "Finish Strong" for running yesterday, and the "Strong Start" for today's run. When I looked over my data after the run, I was surprised to see I also earned a "Resolution" badge on my Nike app as well! Woo hoo! Silly little things I know, but they do motivate.
Since I did not make the running plan I had in place, I am off to look up another one to plug into place to get me back on track.11 -

I’ve been fitted - i just also love Salomon and am not sure I want another pair of mizunos. The Salomons are a MUCH better shoe than my Mizunos were, though they were also great. They were fine but I’m leaning towards the brooks... *sigh* no need to get in a hurry, I suppose.1 -
Jan 1 - 4.25 mile run (I'm running too fast... need to slow down)
Probably going to walk with hubby later. I should walk the dogs also.
Black eyed peas and ham in the crockpot for New Year's good luck! And hopefully the Christmas trees and decor with all be in the attic by evening. I boxed it up 2 days ago but I need assistance with the attic.
I'm still off work until Monday. Last day of work was Dec 19. I need to get back to a normal routine7 -

Don't forget the sauerkraut.2 -
@Tramboman - tell Mrs Tramboman Congratulations! That is an awesome accomplishment!
@noblsheep - I have never heard of anything like that happening during a run but I think making sure you are breathing deep enough could help.
@Camaramandy648 - I look at the Runners World shoe recommendations then look at actual runner reviews (not just theirs). I also try to find women written reviews - having a man review their version of a shoe doesn't really tell me much. Also, just because you were fitted and a specific shoe recommended doesn't mean that is the only shoe or brand for you. I was fitted and Asics recommended and while I ran in them for a while I have not found a pair I really like. I love Brooks mostly because they have so many cute styles and fun designs (love their holiday themed shoes, @RunsOnEspresso taunts me with them every year now 😁) but they are too narrow for me. I have tried many other brands and the one I like best is one that was never sold in stores and is no longer made. Altras were my go to for a while but like @PastorVincent I have not been impressed by how they have held up. Topo Athletics are now my go to and even within that brand I have tried several models that ended up going back.
@elise4270 - so where is the shoe porn picture?
No run for me today. My back/side is feeling much better and I am certain now it was a result of my fall and the way I twisted at the time to protect my knee. I will do some PT exercises this afternoon and hopefully get dh out for a walk with the pups. I am still working on my 2020 goals but getting there. I was looking through pictures yesterday and really want to get back to where I was a few years ago before injuries and surgeries put me back up a few pounds.3 -
1/1 – 3.17 miles
This morning was the Wake Up and Run 5K held at Warrior’s Path State Park. It was chilly but the sun was out so that made it better plus the race didn’t start until 9:00 am so it had warmed up a few degrees by then. I finished in 31:09 with an average pace of 10:02 and placed 6 out of 10 in my age group. After the 5K I volunteered to help time the 1 mile race. There were a lot of young kids who ran it and I was just amazed by their time and speeds! One particularly cute little 8-year old girl ran it in 7:17!

Anyone else want to join a Run the Year team? @emmamcgarity and I need another person to commit to running 470 miles in 2020. Anyone game? If not, @elise4270 has volunteered her husband!4

I would let a running store for you for shoes. Some of them can even do scans of your feet and watch you run to see exactly what you need.

I ran 3.12 this morning so I could earn the NYRR Resolution Run 5k badge. I also walked the dogs for a mile, and I did some arm work with dumbbells. Two and a half months until my marathon, so I am going to be super focused with my workouts and food!7

LOL @Camaramandy648 sometimes questions get missed in this thread, but not shoe questions appreantly! LOL Do you have enough versions of the same answer yet?1

I imagine someone has already piped up but the only way to get the right pair is to get professionally fitted.
I pronate and have found that literally the only shoe I can get in NZ for my feet is the Asics Gel Kayano. Fortunately for me they seem to be perfect for me. Sadly that means that every pair is about $300 (approx $200usd) so I'm ALWAYS looking for a bargain. I've gone against advice and bought a couple of pairs of the same model online, and fortunately they've been great.
But yeah, my experience is get fitted. A proper place that can do a gait analysis. It will save you money and pain in the long run
ETA bahahaha yep, had to add to the same advice!1 -
@elise4270 - so where is the shoe porn picture?
