Didn't do that great yesterday - skipped lunch and just had some trail mix at work, which meant I was starving when I got home. Need to do some meal planning this weekend! At least the water weight from that time of the month is starting to come off!7 -
@bluffgirl67 that is wonderful new about your momma. So happy for you. I know still a long road but this is great.4

@bluffgirl67 great news about momma!!4

@BlueDream226 - I hope you learn to love yourself at every size. If you haven't read it, I recommend reading Lindy West's book Shrill, mostly because she's hysterically funny. But also because it talks about how she overcame shyness and shame as a fat person in this world and learned to be bold and proud. You are gorgeous and strong right now. And you will stay gorgeous and strong through your weight loss. Be proud of yourself for taking this step. I look forward to hearing about your success.
@Aerohead21 , I'm not sure I'm ever going to view food as fuel, nor do I really want to. Food is amazing and should be enjoyed. But I totally get what you mean. I recently bought some "no sugar jerky" and thought this is great! 13 grams of protein, no carbs, no fat! I was so excited. Except it tastes like punishment. I figured out that if I dip it in maple syrup it tastes much better. Yes, it adds carbs, but not that many and life is too short to eat food that feels like punishment. Next time, go ahead and give away the toast - toast is boring. But tell them hands off your bacon!

I love all the inspiration on this post today! @HurleyHurley great job on running! Running is not easy! I use running for my main form of cardio. I love it because it's so hard I always feel like I get a great workout, plus I can do it anywhere as long as I have shoes. I also have a treadmill. I like that because I can hop on it at home when I'm hanging with my kids without my workout causing too many ripples in the flow of our household. I'm sure you can get up to a 5k and that is a fabulous goal for 2020.
@bluffgirl67 such great news about your Mom! What a great way to start off the New Year. Cancer is such a roller coaster, and good news is the best.
MFP has not been working well for me today, I think it's the increased traffic due to all the new year's resolutions. It keeps telling me the site is down for maintenance. And now its slow. I feel like I am really depending on it right now for motivation so it's a little frustrating. Has this been happening to anyone else?11 -
So I went to the doctor for my month weight check! Per his scale I lost 15 lbs in the first month! Woohoo! That’s quite a bit more than my 4 lb goal 😂. This morning was one of those tests of wills because my toddler knocked over my protein drink and I didn’t have anything for back up, so I basically had to go without breakfast. It sucked. That’s where the sleeve comes in handy. I don’t particularly starve. I get hungry. I get lethargic. I get fuzzy brained. But I don’t starve. Man...to not just eat something else (which would have consisted of “their” food)...you know...the food that belongs to my kids and my athlete hubby who has never known an ounce of fat in his life...crackers and cakes and cookies and cereals and lots of tasty carbohydrates 🤤...anyway, idk of month 2 will be nearly as successful as month 1 but I’ll sure try.12

@bluffgirl67 great news! ❤️
@shorepine MFP working on me end, maybe an earlier glitch
Jan Mile Goal: 30mi
Progress: 2.86mi
Had my walk this morning, great way to start my day. Waited until 11:30 to eat, logged my foods for the day, already have dinner & snacks planned. Have a great day everyone!8 -
Hi! I am new to this group.
SW: 250lbs
CW: 219
Height: 5'7
My goal for January is to walk my dog 5x a week, and complete another workout with that 5x a week.9 -
Hi All!
I'm working on returning from bit of a lapse in good food choices/healthier eating, and have small goals but I don't want to see all the work I've put in just go away!
SW 1/1: 223
CW: 221.3
Jan. loss so far: 1.7
Goal weight end of 2020: 199 (or lower, of course!)
I'm trying to keep my weight loss slow and attainable at 2-4 lbs per month. I've had a really busy year and don't want to beat myself up if I'm not losing but don't want to let go of my healthier lifestyle changes! My lowest weight was around 189 but my highest has been 271 so I'm still on the lower end and I want to keep it that way
Good luck to everyone out there and here's to a healthier 2020!10 -
@bluffgirl67 Glad to hear you got good news!
@BrownSugar174 That quote really touched a nerve with me. I realized I'd probably never even think to include myself on such a list. Thanks for sharing.7 -
@bluffgirl67, that’s great. I’m so happy to hear that! I wish continuous positive news go you and mama
@shorepine, MFP was down for me most of the day, too!
@buryingwater, welcome! We’re happy you’re here.
@becca_rup23, lapses happen to the best of us, but it’s great you’re realizing you don’t want to lose the progress you’ve made. I’m also taking my weight loss slow because I know if I did something more intense and had to limit more foods than I already am, I’d probably fail.
I’m so, so happy because my mom told me she has been watching my weight loss and it’s inspired her to start losing weight too. I’m going to get her signed up for MFP and she’s already started eating better AND has found a buddy for the gym. It just feels great to see some outside positive results from me losing weight.
I also started to binge eat today, and I caught myself and was just like “why am I doing this?” And then logging the foods after was kind of a reality check. I’ve never really been able to stop myself mid-binge, so it was almost a powerful feeling to be able to take that back for myself. And tonight I’m heading to the gym and I’m actually looking forward to it, which is definitely a new feeling.

@torihudson6 yay for being an inspiration! Have you ever heard of mindfulness? It’s a mental health concept but it has been expanded to include eating habits and mindful eating. There’s even a book called Mindless Eating that talks about the ways we and society set ourselves up to eat mindlessly and fail at healthy eating habits. I know for me personally it’s not too hard to just go blank and eat whatever but to make good decisions it requires a real conscious effort.5

@shorepine I've been having the same issues with this site for the past two days. Hope they get it worked out soon! I've been feeling the same way about needing extra support (winters are tough for me) and having the site down has been frustrating.
Went to Costco today and bought a couple of magazines - Hungry Girl with lots of healthy and easy recipes, and People's Half Their Size annual issue. I haven't seen either of these in stores yet and it's nice that they're about 30% off at Costco. I also resisted getting a slice of pizza before I left and took my pup for an hour walk when I got home!8 -

Hi ladies! My name is Amber. I have been away for quite some time but this site is what got me to my goal and healthy for quite sometime. Then life fell apart, I had every excuse in the book and the weight came back on and brought it's friends.
I have a few goals for the year to get me started on hopes that I will be feeling great come August!
The goals for this year are:
1. Stop binge eating
2. Yoga as often as possible
3. Journaling more
4. Attend a yoga retreat (already have this planned)
I'm excited for the year, excited to feel good again and excited to watch everyone else achieve their goals this year too!

Both husband and I have been having some rough mental health, so when we went out for dinner today... we ordered dessert. -_-
The problem is that dessert doesn't change the world, so it makes a lousy support system when something external is the problem. But the sugar DOES affect my brain chemistry which makes it actually effective when the problem is just that I'm sad and depressed because my brain is bad at serotonin. It's self medication that works.
It's not the end of the world that today was bad but I'm really, really struggling to get back into things now that the holidays are over. -_-14 -
@Terytha I'm right there with you. January and February are always a struggle for me but I think January is the worst, especially right after the holidays. I also used sugar today to cope. I think it's tough because there is so much going on over the holidays and then all of a sudden, boom, back to reality. I hope things will start easing up for both of us!8

My goals in January are:
1: to stay with the program. Log the food every day, make good food choices, avoid the situations that lead to overeating and emotional eating or eating the things that make you physically miserable. (Spinach is tasty. Writhing in pain from gas is no fun. Occasionally I apparently have to remind myself why I can't eat spinach like that.)
2: To do the right things with regard to my health. This is stuff like going to the neurologist to see if they have anything for my migraines that I can take, figuring out with my doctor what to do about the lump in my thyroid, and taking whatever medications I get prescribed to manage the hypothyroidism, and getting a pap smear done.
3: To stay with the system of household organization I use. I use a card file, which I have adapted from the Sidetracked Home Executive book system. I have one of dates that organizes upcoming appointments for my family and my daily things that need doing, and one that organizes recipe cards (I tuck the card in on the date I'm cooking it) and one that holds phone numbers and business cards, and we as a household have a fourth that indexes the library. It's important to me that if I fall down the stairs and break an ankle that the work gets done on time and in order, and this way either of my partners can pick up the file and carry on.
4: I bought a gym membership, the immediate crisis is over, go to the damn gym and begin to lift. I feel better when I lift, and I can't plan to walk for an hour; I've got too much arthritis in my feet for that. One of my chronic conditions gives me exercise intolerance, and I need to make sure that I go on a daily basis and do a little and thereby sneak up on it. Once it's a daily habit, it's...a habit, and I'll do it. I just have to make it a habit.8 -
First of all, I have to say, I have such mixed emotions ABOUT losing weight lol. I just got to the point where I love and accept my body at this size. I am not ashamed of my body, I see the beauty in this booty. That being said, I am not feeling strong, as young as I am, and my hips are hurting! I have so much bound fascia and muscle weakness it’s just too much. I need movement to feel good, I need healthy food habits to feel great. And I like feeling great.
I am doing the noom trial and it did really illuminate something about me. I want to lose weight so I feel more comfortable, like literally I just don’t want the discomfort of achy joints and feeling like I can barely move. I also want to feel more powerful in my body. I currently feel vulnerable like I am all soft and easily injured.
SW 1/31: 208
CW: 203
GW: 145
GW 1/31: 190
My daily goals for January are:
self care: self compassion, tea, reading, yoga, enjoying tv from 8-10 pm unless I fall asleep, Percussion massager.
Finding ways to feel beautiful NOW.
Dancing to start the day.
6k steps or hour of physical activity
Approx 80 oz water daily
3 servings each of fruits and veg.
Logging all meals
Completing challenges through my fitness pal app.
Focus on low calorie density foods. I’m a volume eater, so the more of something I can eat the more satisfied I am.11 -
Hi ya.....
My goal of this week is to actually step on the scales and assess the post Christmas, post I’ve had a baby damage. My baby has just turned 12 months. Time to stop using that as my justification of sitting on my rump. Although I confess I have enjoyed every single snuggle.10 -
Think I'm caught up. It was great reading everyone's goals and plans to achieve them. For the new posters I want to say this group has been wonderful for support, motivation, and learning for me. I hope you find the same and keep coming back even if it's just to read. We are all on the same journey and can make it together.
@mmdeveau Best of luck on getting into the run. What you pushed through last year to be where you are now is a great accomplishment. I also want to say how so many of your posts inspire me to think about how I'm doing/looking at things. Thank you for those insights. Between your and @speyerj recommendations I need to start a reading list.
@mmccloy12 Great ideas for hitting your goals. I'm 42H so feel ya sister on the reduction. The constant neck and shoulder pain/burning is awful. I hope you qualify to get yours done with 50lb loss. That would be wonderful. I've thought about getting a reduction off and on for years but haven't checked with drs and insurance. I'm hoping losing weight will help some and may still look into. Like you I just want to go into a store and buy a bra again. Even when I weighed 120 I was a d cup bc women in our family are all busty.
@Aerohead21 Congrats on the 15lb loss!! Awesome job and you did well choosing "healthy" but you don't have to do that if you don't want. I think being able to still have food we enjoy just in smaller quantities is going to be a key to our success. Since you can only eat small amounts at a time order what you want. Enjoy your portion then give the rest to the kids (maybe not the bacon lol). It's ok to eat our likes just be aware and reduce that stress over it.
@torihudson6 Way to be an inspiration for you mom. When she signs up have a drop me a friend request. Great work on stopping mid-binge and taking back your power.
@egrow1 I'm happy you've came to love and accept yourself where you are. That's the most important thing in life. Wanting to lose weight to be healthier, stronger, and in less pain is an extension of that love and acceptance. Your body's pain and strength struggles sound like mine. I have fibromyalgia so movement is both painful and needed to try and reduce the pain...catch 22. I'm finding doing gentle yoga (no fancy moves here lol) really helps loosen things up. Then I feel like I can make it through my elliptical or low weight dumbbell exercise better. We can do this with a little movement every day and keep building on it.
I love what @theleadmare said, "Food will not make them call you back. Food will not make you less lonely. Food will not pull your romantic partner's head out of his behind."
So many of us look at food to do something. When in reality food doesn't fix problems. Yes, it give us nourishment and pleases our taste buds but it can't fix our emotions or problems. Our mentality and choices are our fixers. I have the power just need to get better at choosing the right tools.
Hope y'all are having an awesome weekend.8 -
Greetings All! 🤗
Faced the scale and it wasn't pretty. No surprise there. Had my whole internal emotional rant, then pulled myself together. What's done is done. Hit the reset button and am moving forward.
January Goals:
*Stay on track
*Meal prep
*Incorporate some type of exercise/physical activity
*No Self Sabotaging
*Be kinder to self, focus on positivity in lieu of negativity
* Take this WLJ day by day.11 -
@Smile72 Welcome and You Got This!3
-
So ended up going to a foreigner meetup at a bar that ended up at another bar, so I had some fries and a couple screwdrivers. Not exactly healthy, but I feel like it could have gone a lot worse, and I budgeted some calories for it, even though I ended up going over. Overall, not fantastic but I did the best I could and I met some awesome new people, so I'm okay with it. Tomorrow, I'll be extra healthy!!!!12
-
Welcome @Smile72 Here's to moving forward.
@RavenStCloud Glad you are making some new friends. You did great thinking ahead and budgeting in for the night out. I know you'll back to normal today.
I went ahead and upped my elliptical resistance by one. This was my initial goal for the month and I survived. Now my goal is to up it again by month's end. I wasn't sure how to change my calorie expenditure since I already log a little less than mfp gives for the 20min. I went with adding in an extra calorie per minute burn. Not much but some days I may need those few. Today is one of those days since hubby is wanting to go out again. I love him but if he was off work all the time I would only be eating one meal every day.7 -
Hi guys
SW: 457lbs
CW: 308lbs
GW: 152lbs
Height: 5'9
2019 was quite the year. Big changes and a whole lot of emotions but I'm working hard and trying to set small achievable goals to hit along the way.
So my first scale goal is to lose another 1.6lbs to make it 150 lost. Then to make it under 300.
Life goals are somewhat bigger. *grins* I want to get back to writing, start my degree and carry on with my health journey in a sustainable way.
So, with that in mind, January goals:
1. Weigh everything. I was getting lazy with this.
2. Plan my menus properly.
3. Keep on top of my hydration. I definitely let this slip over Christmas.
4. Start exercising at home not just at the gym and pool.
I'm looking forward to walking/running/swimming this journey with you all

@bluffgirl67 😂 that’s exactly my problem!!! I don’t have the self control!!! I pick one thing wrong and then I pick another wrong and then the next and then it snowballs into all things wrong, and instead of sharing a plate I eat the whole thing 😳 I used to be able to share with my husband but that snowballing happened and before I knew it, I gained 50 lbs of the 100 I had lost and went back to pre-sleeve habits. And here I am 🥰5

Omg I am back again! Back in onderland that is. December was a whole month of maintenance and water retention. Started the month at 197 and the next day was at 203 (damn hormones) ended it at 203.
I hit 199.6 this morning!13 -
@danipatt1216 I AM SO SO VERY PROUD OF YOU!! THAT IS AWESOME AND SO SO INSPIRATIONAL FOR ALL OF US!!!

Thank you so much! I was starting to feel down but I remembered that I really need to just continue the process and the weight will come off. I am definitely a instant gratification person and have a hard time sticking to a goal. A honeymoon in june with a crap ton of walking is my inspiration ( been waiting 14 years for a honeymoon and want to have pictures I can look back and be proud of) the goal is to get to half my weight lost by then and next Christmas is the goal for the rest.6 -

Girl I am with you! I don't look in the mirror and hate myself. However, my knee has been acting up, my lower back is causing me trouble and I want to be able to keep up with my kids, this getting winded business has to go!5
