Once I did that, I could start saying, "Food will not make them call you back. Food will not make you less lonely. Food will not pull your romantic partner's head out of his behind." And gradually I got to where food is food. I still like food. I love to cook and create good meals for people I love, including me. But I can now tease out whether hunger is actual hunger or just "I always have a snack about now". And I would have been too swamped by emotion to do that before.
Thank you for sharing! I made it an entire day with no emotional eating or binging. One day at a time.9 -
Hello all!
I am determined to get back at my weight loss journey after a very difficult year. I'm looking forward to 2020 and excited to get healthy again. In 2017 I lost 70lbs on WW but after my sister got cancer last January, I have since put on 50 lbs. I know I know better but the stress got the best of me. I'm ready to get back to where I was before all hell broke loose in my life. I am happy to report that my sister beat colon cancer and is well on the road to full recovery. 2020 is me time. I look forward to supporting each other.

I can’t wait until I can look at food like fuel instead of like the enemy. Right now I see healthy food options like a chore or work instead of like something I should be proud of for choosing. We went out for dinner to IHOP tonight and I chose the simple and fit 2 egg dinner. Because of my sleeve surgery I can’t eat it all anyway, so that’s a bonus and I don’t like pineapple so that eliminated the fruit. My kids stole my toast and turkey bacon which left me with my egg whites 😂 now should I have been proud I picked the ONE AND ONLY healthy meal on their menu? Yes. I should have. It tasted just fine. But I still had to food grieve over all my favorites and all the other choices that are not an option on this journey. Ugh. To those of you who don’t miss the junk...I wish I had your taste buds.9

Happy New Year Everyone!
Welcome to the new comers to the thread, let's all smash our January goals!
Goals for January:
Continue my daily logging streak - hit day 60, woot! - All food logged, no matter what...own that twix bar, don't beat myself up and if I am going to have a mini twix, enjoy the bajeezus out of it and factor it in to an overall healthier diet. That being said, twix taste better when you haven't had one in a while... reminder to self that abstinence makes the taste buds sing louder. LOL
Avoid fast food - it's been 2 months and am not missing it. At some point it'll be a thing, road trip, CE trip, whatever, but for it's not worth the calories.
Gym - at least 3 good workouts weekly at the gym or gym equivalent workouts. Continue working on my jogging. Jogged a continuous 1.5 miles this past week, a first for me in my life. Jogged a mile on the treadmill with elevation adjustment to keep steady HR in the cardio level following a group gym workout and it wasn't as hard as it should have been, so I really think my cardio is improving. My knees didn't even hurt the next day. There's an inkling in the back of my mind that maybe I could actually run a 5K some day. Let's put that up to a 2020 goal - jog a 5K continuous.
Explore more lower calorie, but filling meals. Egg drop soup with smoked chicken sans thickening agent made a nice meal at 200 calories a bowl. This week's effort was a thinned down chili. (Have been increasing water content on meals as I'm just not a big water drinker otherwise.)
Continue to maximize fresh cooking with lean meats, fresh veggies and fruits, minimizing breads/pastas/processed foods.
MEAL PREP / PREPLAN MEALS - this goes so far for me to making healthy choices at work where stress and lack of time otherwise would drive choices of vending machine food or fast food or partaking in the donuts/cookies/cake/snacks that show up, particularly this time of year.
Above all, my goal is to continue to focus on keeping a positive attitude. Our journey is so much more enjoyable when we love ourselves, our real selves - not how we look, but who we are. Yes, I want to be leaner, stronger, healthier. I want to be here longer for my kids as they grow. I want it to be easier to be active and participate in activities, to shop in the regular clothes sections, to not squeeze into an airplane seat, but you know what? I think I'm pretty awesome and I deserve to reach my goal. Let's kill it in January, everyone!
A little music while we're taking a moment to think about how truly awesome we really are:
"I Love Me."
("I love me" by Meghan Trainor, performed by Emoni and Voiceplay - great version.)7 -
Happy new year everyone!
SW: 210
CW: 189
GW: 120
I’ve been trying to lose weight on and off over the last few years. Finally motivated enough to stick with it this time around (I hope...fingers crossed).
My goals for the next 6 months are:- Go to the gym at least 5 times a week and if I can’t go, do a home workout on those days
- Prepare all of my meals
- Cut out added sugar, processed foods
- Reduce dairy and carbs
- Do a 3 or 5 day juice cleanse once every month
- By month 2 or 3, sign up for some classes at Barry’s boot camp. I’m hoping to do 3 a week for a month
- Start logging my measurements too rather than just weight
- Lastly, enjoy the process, keep learning and improving, love myself each step of the way and appreciate the challenge.

Happy Friday
Love seeing so many new faces and old friends for the new year. I've been in Nashville with Momma for surgery again but got great news. The dr was able to get all the remaining tumors!! Now we wait for pathology and see what type of treatments she can tolerate with only one not so great kidney. Still an awesome way to start the year off.
Yesterday was no exercise and a butterburger/custard day. Today I've gotten my yoga and strength done. I'm thinking of making up a pot of veggie soup and I need to roast some sweet potato chunks. For those who read my diary y'all know I love those lol.
Got a lot to read back and catch up with. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Stay committed and get active. We got this!11 -
@bluffgirl67 What great news about mom! Prayers for successful treatment plan and healing!! Hugs!!5

Didn't do that great yesterday - skipped lunch and just had some trail mix at work, which meant I was starving when I got home. Need to do some meal planning this weekend! At least the water weight from that time of the month is starting to come off!7 -
@bluffgirl67 that is wonderful new about your momma. So happy for you. I know still a long road but this is great.4

@BlueDream226 - I hope you learn to love yourself at every size. If you haven't read it, I recommend reading Lindy West's book Shrill, mostly because she's hysterically funny. But also because it talks about how she overcame shyness and shame as a fat person in this world and learned to be bold and proud. You are gorgeous and strong right now. And you will stay gorgeous and strong through your weight loss. Be proud of yourself for taking this step. I look forward to hearing about your success.
@Aerohead21 , I'm not sure I'm ever going to view food as fuel, nor do I really want to. Food is amazing and should be enjoyed. But I totally get what you mean. I recently bought some "no sugar jerky" and thought this is great! 13 grams of protein, no carbs, no fat! I was so excited. Except it tastes like punishment. I figured out that if I dip it in maple syrup it tastes much better. Yes, it adds carbs, but not that many and life is too short to eat food that feels like punishment. Next time, go ahead and give away the toast - toast is boring. But tell them hands off your bacon!

I love all the inspiration on this post today! @HurleyHurley great job on running! Running is not easy! I use running for my main form of cardio. I love it because it's so hard I always feel like I get a great workout, plus I can do it anywhere as long as I have shoes. I also have a treadmill. I like that because I can hop on it at home when I'm hanging with my kids without my workout causing too many ripples in the flow of our household. I'm sure you can get up to a 5k and that is a fabulous goal for 2020.
@bluffgirl67 such great news about your Mom! What a great way to start off the New Year. Cancer is such a roller coaster, and good news is the best.
MFP has not been working well for me today, I think it's the increased traffic due to all the new year's resolutions. It keeps telling me the site is down for maintenance. And now its slow. I feel like I am really depending on it right now for motivation so it's a little frustrating. Has this been happening to anyone else?11 -
So I went to the doctor for my month weight check! Per his scale I lost 15 lbs in the first month! Woohoo! That’s quite a bit more than my 4 lb goal 😂. This morning was one of those tests of wills because my toddler knocked over my protein drink and I didn’t have anything for back up, so I basically had to go without breakfast. It sucked. That’s where the sleeve comes in handy. I don’t particularly starve. I get hungry. I get lethargic. I get fuzzy brained. But I don’t starve. Man...to not just eat something else (which would have consisted of “their” food)...you know...the food that belongs to my kids and my athlete hubby who has never known an ounce of fat in his life...crackers and cakes and cookies and cereals and lots of tasty carbohydrates 🤤...anyway, idk of month 2 will be nearly as successful as month 1 but I’ll sure try.12

@bluffgirl67 great news! ❤️
@shorepine MFP working on me end, maybe an earlier glitch
Jan Mile Goal: 30mi

Had my walk this morning, great way to start my day. Waited until 11:30 to eat, logged my foods for the day, already have dinner & snacks planned. Have a great day everyone!8 -
Hi! I am new to this group.
SW: 250lbs
CW: 219
Height: 5'7
My goal for January is to walk my dog 5x a week, and complete another workout with that 5x a week.9 -
Hi All!
I'm working on returning from bit of a lapse in good food choices/healthier eating, and have small goals but I don't want to see all the work I've put in just go away!
SW 1/1: 223
CW: 221.3
Jan. loss so far: 1.7
Goal weight end of 2020: 199 (or lower, of course!)
I'm trying to keep my weight loss slow and attainable at 2-4 lbs per month. I've had a really busy year and don't want to beat myself up if I'm not losing but don't want to let go of my healthier lifestyle changes! My lowest weight was around 189 but my highest has been 271 so I'm still on the lower end and I want to keep it that way
Good luck to everyone out there and here's to a healthier 2020!10 -
@bluffgirl67 Glad to hear you got good news!
@BrownSugar174 That quote really touched a nerve with me. I realized I'd probably never even think to include myself on such a list. Thanks for sharing.7
