What nobody tells you about losing weight

I read this on this thread before, but it never applied to me, before recently that is. I get sooooooo much colder these days, cold like I've never felt before ("bone-chilling" cold I think they call it. I have taken to wearing socks at night to bed, because I'm so COLD. Going out in the cold weather these days are like icicle YIKES--even when it's not "that" cold outside. Hat, scarf, sweater under coat and gloves are a must now.
I LOVE been slim&trim, so much--you will too!

It’s the old body dysmorphia again. Can’t believe how a few weeks of travel have me convinced I’m heavy, clunky, bulgy, clodden, and like my muscles disappeared the first week- even though I’ve been running and have even picked up a few yoga classes on our travels. I caught myself automatically reaching for things two sizes larger when shopping and only then realizing it’s just not as bad as I think.
I feel wonderful knowing I know how to get back on track and fully expect most of this travel weight to be gone within a month. Can’t WAIT to hit the gym again!!!!!!
I never thought I’d say this, but I am fricking tired of European bakeries and ready for a smoothie.20 -

I find that getting off my routine when it comes to eating can really mess with my head as far as body image. I feel at my heaviest when I’m not eating the best no matter what weight I am. I have definitely felt skinnier at higher weights than I do now (post Christmas dinner lol). Fortunately, getting back on track is an immediate fix.18 -
That right before a woosh your fat gets all squishy and soft. It is like a giant stress ball right on your abdomen! You look weird when you squish it and your 13 year old laughs at you. Lol. No? Only me?25

@rhwiblin - You're not crazy!! I happened upon this thread a while ago and it was enlightening: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/534697/firm-fat-vs-jiggly-fat/p1. I think some of the links and explanations sound a bit like broscience, but it could also be that the professionals who gave the poster the information were trying to make it easy to understand.
So it's not only you!5 -
Oh my goodness @mmdeveau , thank you for that link. I've lost 70 pounds now, but the spare tire around my middle is maddening! When I was 285, I had a flat but wide midsection; now it's ridiculous - a literal pinch a few inches, ring of squishy fat right at my waist. Thank goodness for Spanx!10

My bras and underwear are too big by a few sizes!5

How absolutely, positively WONDERFUL water is to drink. I love drinking water so much now. When I was obese, for some reason I HATED drinking water, with a passion. I just didn't like it or want it. Once I started getting down to size I started drinking lot more water. Then I started substituting caloried drinks for water (ice water especially--but even room temp). Now, I CRAVE water and again, especially ice water and it tastes so GOOD to me now--I LOVE drinking water so much. I'm NOT saying that helped me get down to size necessarily, but maybe it did--not sure--but drinking water to me now is just as good if not BETTER than caloried drinks.15

How easy it is to regain....With the holidays upon me I have not been eating as well, and I already see it...25

I feel like I'm addicted to water lol. I've craved water - no ice and it has to be COLD out of the refrigerator and in a glass glass - ever since I breastfed my first child.4 -
How my boyfriend's hands would get bigger. This sounds weird and probably TMI but I realized the other day, in an intimate moment, that he can now cover two cheeks with one hand whereas before he'd grope one at a time. I told him of this miracle but he didn't really get how weird it was to me. My booty that shrunk enough that his hands seem bigger.23

I was thinking of the other cheeks at first and thought "why is he groping your face" lol. That's what I get for skimming.18 -

That's funny you use the word CRAVE, because that fits to a tee. I used to feel like water was all bland and drinking it was a chore, no more--it's DELICIOUS to me now. I love the idea of keeping a bottle of water in the fridge. My parents and grandparents used to do that too. I'm going start doing that too. Thank you so much for your reply!5 -
Another thing nobody tells you - how incredibly easy it is to put the weight back on. It's like it misses you so it flies back on your body and gives you a big squishy hug!!!33

That you are NOT alone. No matter how much you tell yourself it's impossible to get down to size and stay there--it is possible. It may take a long time--but always remember that slow and steady wins the race and most times, haste makes waste. Always tell yourself if/since others can and are doing it--you will too, it's just a matter of time and determination. Hard does NOT equal impossible. Lastly ALWAYS remember and tell yourself:21

That I would routinely think I might have cancer or another ailment because of the way I can feel new lumps and bumps I couldn’t before (bones, milk ducts, shrinking fats cells, etc.)
That clothes wouldn’t all of a sudden be more comfortable. Bigger stuff is uncomfortable because it falls off and the new sizes still feel the same as the old used to. I feel the same level of comfort in my clothes at a size 6 as I did at a size 16. Surprised me that it’s about fit not size. I just assumed that a smaller stomach meant a more comfortable stomach.
That sleeping and sitting is less comfortable because of the lack of padding. Even my cheek bones and knees cause me discomfort.
That I would feel the same inside.

I've lost 47kg since 4 January 2019; I'm still a UK size 16 and would like to be a 12/14 (I'm too tall to be any slimmer than that without looking ill!).
The negatives:- That you can't target where it goes from, however much you might want it to go from the abundance that's still round your midriff rather than more from your face or breasts!
- That people who started as supportive can feel that it's acceptable to say that you need to stop because your face is looking gaunt and haggard (I'm still 80kg!).
- That although you can be much happier with the way you look when dressed, the excess and wrinkly skin can make you even more self-conscious than the fat did.
- That whilst you do need to be conscientious and honest about what you're eating and drinking, writing down every single thing you have can make you obsessive and boring.
- That you can feel really guilty about eating something high calorie even if you make allowance for it in your daily calorie allowance!

That even when you’ve lost the weight you’ll still feel fat/squishy.
I’ve had a goal of 140 for years. I’m just a few pounds away from that, but my stomach is still carrying a lot of extra weight. I guess it should be expected. I had 3 kids (2 c-sections) and a gallbladder surgery all in the span of 5 years.
I know I’ll have to move my goal, but I want to hit it first and celebrate it before the next leg of the journey.
Well done on getting close to your goal. When you get down to your preferred weight I suggest sitting there for a good few months before deciding to drop any more - keep up with (or take up) some activity and do some strength training while you eat at maintenance. My shape has improved since a period of maintenance and some of the squishy bits have sort of 'gone back' to where they were a good few years ago. After that period of consolidation you can drop down a bit if necessary - which is what I am now going to do ( Xmas also added on a few extra for me to shift .16 -

All this! Although I am blessed with the people around me - they never pass any negative comments - or even comment specifically on my weight loss. I noticed the gauntness in my face when I first lost weight but I didn't let it deter me from losing until I reached a healthy BMI and it has improved - my body seems to be redistributing itself. I do wish the girls would do one though - the boobage feels extreme at the moment - perhaps it's where my Xmas pounds settled. They shall be gone!7 -

Oh my goodness, this! This!!!! I needed to loose 50 pounds and it took me a year but I finally reached that goal, now that I've done it and have set new goals unrelated to the scale, the comments are becoming more and more resentful. My honest thoughts are that if I can do this, anyone can do it. You just have to want it badly enough to make the changes and commit yourself to it.17 -

That as you get down to size, your endurance (in exercising and everyday stuff like cleaning, walking, dancing, etc) will increase so much, even up to 100 fold or more! It is so wonderful to go from huffing and puffing when merely walking to the mailbox, walking up stairs or shopping (walking/lifting bags, etc.) like I did when I was overweight and obese. When/as you become more slim and trim, you will be so filled with such WONDERFUL vim and vigor--it's nothing less than TREMENDOUS and super encouraging too.24

How you look younger and fresher. I always thought the shape of my face is naturally round. After I lost a significant amount of weight I discovered I actually have a lovely oval face. Right now I'm trying to lose a few just so it comes back. The holidays were a challenge.😏19

That when you've taken off the weight, and especially if you've been also working on fitness, how EVERYONE ELSE WALKS SO SLOW.
35 -
That when you put an 8-pound soft lead SCUBA belt on before you take a walk "just to see how it feels," you are AMAZED that you used to walk around ALL THE DAMN TIME with several of these things glued inside your body.24

It's so ABSOTUTELY (yes I spelled it that way on purpose ) true. Another one I'm hiding in my heart and know is true as well is being strong/being STRONG in mind, body and soul/spirit (having a strength vs. weakness mind-set), being STRONG is not an option to/for me, it's a DAILY CHOICE, a mandate/a way of thinking/living/being...AND being weak is not an option for me either, it too is a way of thinking/living/being--it's a DAILY choice! It's like the old saying goes:
"if you believe you can or if you believe you can't...YOU'RE RIGHT"!HufflepuffGrl9 wrote: »NewLIFEstyle4ME wrote: »How absolutely, positively WONDERFUL water is to drink. This!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🙌🙌🙌🙌 I hated drinking water when I was obese too! I would drink two 2 liters of soda and pour half a cup of sugar along with coffee creamer in my coffee. Now, I can’t get enough of water. My goal is to drink at least five 16 oz bottles of water a day, along with black coffee. I prefer my coffee black now. Coffee creamer & other sweet drinks like soda make me sick now! 😂😂😂 But like you said, @NewLIFEstyle4ME I *crave* water now. It makes me feel sooo wonderful!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 I prefer it over any other kind of drink!
Girllll...I so know and 100% agree with you! I had some ice water (2 maybe 3 glasses) with my dinner last night and it was just sooooo delicious and refreshing. Who'd thunk I'd EVAH feel that way about water?!? I also drink lots of water all thru the day, because it's oh so GOOD to me!7
