Hi and happy New Year! I have been on this journey way too long. I lost my focus last year but I am determined to get it back. I am trying to reduce my stress level which is very difficult in my current job. My first goal is to make appointments to exercise and not cancel those appointments.

@torihudson6 hope you feel better! You inspired me to take my own “before” picture even tho I too am slightly uncomfortable. Seeing the progress will prove to be a treat. As far as going over your calories, the important thing is you held yourself accountable by logging that.
@speyerj you got this! You’ll be rocking those boots in no time. Glad the scale is finally matching up with the work you’ve put in. I’ve been wanting to add strength training to my routine as well, I have a gum membership so I have access to what I need.

I went on a 2 mile hike today. I wore the wrong shoes and thus fell down twice, slipping on sand. I scraped my knee, but otherwise am ok. Will probably be sore tomorrow. I went over my calories yesterday, but I held myself accountable and logged everything I ate. I feel as long as I do that I will more times than not make the better choice. Dinner plans with friends tonight, so I looked at the menu ahead of time and know what I am eating and have it already logged into MFP. Planning ahead is so important for me until these things become habit.

@finngirl61 I don’t think I weighed in on intermittent fasting but I have been doing it and think it really has helped. I started at 10/14 and worked up to 8/16. I usually eat “breakfast” at 11:30, lunch at around 2:30 and dinner at around 6:30. I find that I don’t need a snack because the meals are compressed and I love that it closes the kitchen in the morning for sweet treats and at night for mindless snacking. It also makes me pay attention to whether I am really hungry and also feel hunger again. Plus I feel really good when I am in the fasting mode and have even exercised then. That said, I eat as soon as I start to feel funny or really hungry and always have my first meal ready to go. I highly recommend trying it - I think it helps my metabolism and helps me eat less/more smart.4

@sharpdust I always log the overages and snacks! I actually usually make myself log them before I even go to the kitchen to get them, so I can really look at the totals and see if the extra snack is worth it to me. I mean, it usually is tbh, but it's made me think twice plenty of times as well!7

Ok so I started "dieting" New year's day. And started tracking calories this past Tuesday. I am going through all the detox stages...moody, headaches, craving sweets, craving fried foods, craving potato chips. I am focusing on nourishing my body, but the detox phase is so hard. Aaagghhh8

I’m so excited about tomorrow! My hubby and I are going hiking! It’s more like a six mile walking trail but it’s gonna be so awesome to do this with him! We are gonna have a hearty breakfast (egg, avocado, cheddar cheese on brioche..with scrapple for me and bacon for him) and pack some water/healthy snacks in our backpacks and off we go!!

It's just really a constant process of learning what you need. I learned today that I need to plan to eat 150-200 calories before I go to the grocery store. Otherwise I come home and I am hangry and that is not fair to my partners, even if they know what's going on and I apologize after lunch. So I'm going to do better with that next week.
@BrownSugar174: That sounds like a lovely romantic time! I really miss being able to hike like that.
@stefsc1: I often sit down the night before and log tomorrow's meals. I plan in advance, and that way I know in advance if I'm going to be filling in with a snack here and there to hit my calorie amount. (I don't like to go more than 50 either way with that.) In a way, I do better if I know, "Hey, tomorrow the meals are all you get, but what meals they are!" And I can plan to get things cleaned up and off to bed before the late-evening snacking rears its head.

@theleadmare I've been working on regulating my snacks/meals before I know I have to go out for a longer period and it's helped me a lot. I used to think that I'd just save up my calories and eat after I came home, but I'd just be starving and grumpy and then I'd come home and eat ALL the things. Sometimes, this still happens and then I kick myself because I know better!!!5

@BrownSugar174 Your hike sounds wonderful! Enjoy! I'm very jealous. We're supposed to have 8-12 inches of snow with winds gusting up to 50 mph. Not my ideal walking weather.3

Ah ladies i really struggled yesterday. I didn’t manage to get to the gym and whilst I was within my calories I ate nothing of nutritional value. Saturdays are normally our take away day, but I’m deciding if I want to have one and make better choices (boiled rice instead of fried etc) or just cook at home.
Anyone else struggled this week? How have you pulled it back?8 -
@MsDollyDimple yes! The Cookie Monster got to me earlier this week! And I had to practice eating one serving of Lays chip😬at a time! Now cooking at home and packing lunch has become the fuel that’s really helped me run this marathon. When I started this journey we ate out 3-5 times a week (mostly lunch after working out). I was loosing a pound a month. Once I started eating out 1-2 times a month I’ve shed almost double that amount each month. If it takes me a month to loose a few pounds that’s okay. I didn’t put it on overnight and I’m not gonna loose it overnight.8

@theleadmare I’m so proud of you for recognizing this. My pitfall was fast food either just before or after grocery shopping. When we decided to cut our eating out to 1-2 times a month we started packing a small cooler with lunch and healthy snacks. I also tuck some trail/nut mix packs and fig bars in my purse/back pack. I add it all to my diary before I go...if I end up not eating it I’m ahead of the game for the day👍🏽.5

I bought some “healthy” biscuits yesterday while I was racing round doing 100 things. I ate one. Previously it would have been the whole packet. I had a little word with myself and said I didn’t need another and dinner wouldn’t be too long and that was it10

@BrownSugar174: I'm in Indiana now, and I don't plan to let anything keep me from working out! Well, if we get snowed in, I guess that means yoga at home. But so far that has not happened,3

The main struggle I have is that I do like to stay up at night because People Said Things Online. (wry grin) I really need to go to bed on time. Getting enough sleep is so important for bodily health in general, but I also am not going to get out of bed when something is singing in the kitchen. I can't hear it from there. So it's important to control evening snacking. I'm trying to do my browsing of the net in the mornings before my loves get up, when I'm drinking my tea after my workout.6

@BrownSugar174 That's a great idea!! Having healthy snacks available is what I definitely need. Good thing today's shopping day and I'll have to add some to the list. And I'll have to find a way to eat out less on the weekends...4 -
It's been a yay-boo week for me. Boo, weights have been all over the place, slight trend down, maybe, but bouncing everywhere. Have been tired/unmotivated this week, not sleeping well at all - welcome back insomnia, haven't seen you in a while. On the yay side of things I had a couple of days I actually got out of work on time or even a little early, so managed to hit the gym 4 times this week (including today's workout scheduled this am) and added a trail run, so that's a 5 days of workouts week (I've been getting 3/week as my goal). That feels good, though my body is a little beat up for it.
I feel like my booty shelf looks smaller (that fat pack over my behind that I'd love to see gone some day) and my clothes are definitely hanging on me more. That's cool. Want to see that weight trend dip down again, though. Fingers crossed it's added muscle/muscle recovery weight from be crushing my activity goal this week.
Better get to the gym before the winter stupid sets in. They're forecasting *anyone's guess* inches of snow, freezing rain, winds/drifting starting today.

Late add-on here. Started (or should say I restarted) the journey 1/1. I lived my life comfortably in the 140-150 lb range until I hit my 30s and it became harder to stay there. From then on I've gained, I've lost... until it got to be all gains. I got myself a sedentary job and an arthritic hip that made me stop running and things snowballed from there. Well, the past is done and nothing to do but try to improve.
The stories here are very encouraging, thanks for sharing your lives!

Kickboxing orientation went well! Luckily we didn’t have to do the mile because the track they used was covered in snow, which is great because since I’m still sick it probably wouldn’t have been my best performance. I’m really excited to start on Monday and I’m hoping it continues to help me tone up, but also lose weight. I’m already telling myself the first few weeks with how sore I’m going to be I’ll probably be retaining a fair amount of water so I can’t get too discouraged with the number on the scale.
I hope everyone else is having a nice weekend! I hope @bluffgirl67 you get to feeling better soon as well as anyone suffering with a cold/migraine/whatever it may be.

@Tarzan37 I try to have a couple of proteins ready then just fill in with a few quick side items. Otherwise I hear all high calories things in the house calling my name. I'm sure you will create some delicious meals. Taking your measurements is a great idea for when the scales aren't moving. Enjoy your weekend and planning for your new goal.

@gonna_reach_the_goal33 You can make that goal! Making small fitness like you mentioned of hitting steps more often will definitely help. Now that I've gotten used to moving more I really miss it and can tell my body does also.

@mmccloy12 Way to start chipping at those goals and making changes. Adding in an extra drink for the weekend is great if you are feeling too restricted. The goal is to make changes we can live with now as well as later. Glad you are enjoying your soda stream.
@stefsc1 Amazing!!! You are such an inspiration for helping me stick with this journey even went I want to stray off the path. I play with my snack logging too. I will put in what I really want and what I could live with. Whichever fits for the day is what I eat. I think pre-logging is becoming one of my favorite found tips. Keep moving toward that goal post.
@speyerj Whoosh, there it is!! I knew it would happen. You are so consistent with meeting your weekly goals that it was just a matter of time. I've read so much on here about how important it is to add in strength training when losing to keep from losing . You are doing a great job keeping muscle. My program is a small one but I can already see more of a definition in my arms and legs. Ohhh your boots are gorgeous! You will be showing those off in no time.

@sharpdust Glad you're ok. Logging everything even the bad days is very important. It not only keeps us accountable but also can show patterns and ways to improve. Love that you looked up the menu ahead of time. I've been trying to do that myself and it is an eyeopener.
@momx4hill The beginning is really hard. Stick with it though because the reward on the other side is worth it. You've got this!
@BrownSugar174 Have a great time hiking with hubby at such a beautiful place. My hubby loves eating out so I need work on incorporating your strategies in my life when he is off work.
@theleadmare Recognizing your need to have a small snack before shopping is very good. I can get crabby when I'm hangry too. Nighttime snacking is one of my struggles. I try to plan to eat something around 7p. Then I take my meds at 8p and hope to be asleep by 10p before the munchies settle in. I will stream a show and read on the comp while in bed for a double distraction from my food thoughts.
@MsDollyDimple The struggle is real. Maybe you could make home versions of the take away you would normally have. That way you can get down on things like sugar, salt, and fat, but still have the flavors.
@fitchick37 Great job on curbing the biscuit beast. That's so hard to do when the package is right in front of you.
@HurleyHurley Excellent work on getting all that exercise in. I bet the scale changes is some water weight from all that extra movement. Once your body is used to it there should be a whoosh. I have a boob shelf instead of a booty shelf. My booty is a pancake and am hoping squats etc will help with that. It would be really nice if we could just move stuff around ourselves.
@torihudson6 Hoping you are better today. You will probably have water gain from all the new muscle moves but once that is gone it will be all downhill. Kickboxing is supposed to a great workout and I bet you will do great. All kinds of muscle will be popping out.
Feeling a bit better today (points to book above) Storms are still moving in and super high winds expected but the worst tornado threats are to the south. I live in Bama's tornado alley so always have to be alert. My cousin has tickets for the bull rides and her hubby forgot to see about taking off work. I'm taking his place. It's been awhile since doing anything like that and I've been looking forward to it. Skipping exercise today in hopes of staying in halfway decent shape so I can enjoy tonight. @torihudson6 I’m so so proud of your success in your weight loss journey! I have received your friend requests and I’ve sent you messages each time. One of the things I changed just before the new year was making sure everyone on my friends list have open diaries. While I completely appreciate others who have decided to have private diaries, I really want to be more engaged with and learn from my friends about what they eat, how they eat (I’ve seen some really good foods and recipes) on their journey. Like I said, it’s completely up to you. Regardless I’m rooting for you and very proud of you🥰5

My hubby made pancakes for breakfast this morning. I couldn’t help it. I stuffed a dry, plain pancake in my mouth whole like a piggy 🐷 I literally almost choked on it! I’m not even 2 months in and I’m missing junk food so bad. It’s around me all the time. The temptation is so hard. I could have eaten a piece of fruit and gotten a better source of nutrients for the carbohydrates than pancakes gives, but no...I shoved that whole pancake in my mouth like it was my last meal on earth.
In 2 days I weigh in for the week. My hope is that I’m in One-derland. I was 200 on the nose last weight in 😬 ...
One day at a time. It’s not possible to lose all this weight overnight.7
