Hello everyone,

Welcome to anyone new that wants to join us and welcome back to those of you who have been posting here.

This forum is for those of us who are shorter in stature. I have found a lot of support here, a lot of good advice and gotten to know some wonderful people through this thread.

August was a hard month for me and it seems that is has been a hard month for many people I know here online, at my work and in my personal life.

How was August for you? September is here and it is a new beginning for all of us.

I was 5'0" but I think im shrinking....lol.... This sounds like a great group... :)
  • 5 ft 3 and a 1/2 here!!!
    I'd love to join!!!

I just started tracking my food and exercise again and wasn't doing much of that in August because every weekend was packed with lots of fun, high calorie things to do lol

I'm hoping now that September is here and the weather is cooling down, I can get outside and work out without feeling like I'm going to pass out :)

Hi new to this thread! But 5'4" on a good day - most of the time more like 5'3"

Anyway, August was very hard for me also - both personal and life and diet.

I'm convinced to control what I can in September. I already have my food, exercise, and financial plans in line just need to follow them.

I would love to join you. I am 5'2". Actually got a 1/4" back by exercsing & losing weight. Guess I improved my posture. I did well in August averaging a weight loss of 1 pound per week. Looking forward to September.

Hi! I'm 5'3" and August was a pretty nice month for me. I'm continuing to lose some weight. My pilates teacher came back off her holiday and immediately commented that she thought my shape had changed a little. My lovable partner finished doing the bathroom ceiling.. it's looked a mess for months! I'm feeling stronger and happier than I have in years... and I hope it will continue for the rest of the year.
  • Hi, I'm 4"9, I'm in a wheelchair. I lost 9 lbs. in August! 28 so far!! My name's Kim. Feel free to add me:)

I'm still 5'2" and have been called "tiny" for the first (and second) time in my life!!!! I'm LOVING my new lifestyle and can't wait to see what the future holds after my first half marathon which is Sept 24. Hoping to get a good time and then improve on it when I do another next spring!!!!

    Short girls ROCK!
  • Hi everyone! I'm 5'2" and August was challenging for me as well. I travel alot and have alot of work stresses. I've always been a stress/boredom/emotional eater and while I've managed to keep losing, it's been a battle this past month. I really want to lose another 40 pounds this year, but with the holidays coming up, that might be a little too steep of a goal.

    Well Hello Jeannie!

I'm Monica and I must say August was a tough month (death in the family) but we got through the obstacles and so.... onto the next CHALLENGE!

Today I'm starting the September Jungle Jewels Challenge and I'm so excited. I'll be going back to work on Wednesday so I have to keep eating healthy and exercising. It seems work has always been my downfall.. You know.. Trying to juggle too many balls at once..

Well I'm off to have breakfast and get to those challenge exercises!

Have a wonderful September and a great day! :flowerforyou:

    Sincerely 5'4'',
    Monica

i'm 5'2", never considered myself short until I got to college and these women were towering over me! I was raised by a short Italian woman. loll

August was fantastic. My boyfriend moved to LA mid August (I'll be joining him in December, just have 1 more semester of school) and I made a promise that I was going to focus on myself and get in shape before my LA move. I've been running a bunch, and logging the good, bad, and the ugly!

I would be very interested to know, what are your goal weights, since we are shorties?

Hi everyone, this looks like a good crowd to join! I'm about 5ft give or take 1/2 inch!

August was quite hard going, but enlightening to me, as I joined MFP and began to understand where my weight gain has really come from (alcohol and large portions) and although I've only lost 1lb so far, I'm very encouraged that once we get into normal routines again I'll be cutting down on the picnics and parties!

Hello Ladies (so far no guys)!

I am 5' 3.5" and wear a size 14... I will probably never wear single digit clothes, and I am okay with that since I have CURVES!!!!!!!!

I had a "maintain" month in August, not that I wasn't trying to lose, but I just had a rough time. I had vacation, got busy with a new relationship, and working (family and paying job). I am hoping that September will allow me to lose some pounds so that I am closer to my goal weight

That means the 13 is getting closer. Not sure how my first run back will go but I know it will feel great!! I may not be super fast but I will do it. I am so looking forward to it!:love:

Someone asked about our goal weights and I've been wondering about where I should be as well. I started this thinking I'd like to be 140 (started around 180ish) and once I got there, I moved my goal down five pounds, and then another five. So right now my goal is 130, but I don't know if that's where I'll stop or not! I love how I look and feel right now, but I do still have some tummy chub (thanks to 2 c-sections and a heredity that carries all our weight there) and would love it to be gone!!!

So I'm open about my final goal weight. Right now I'm at 133.6 (as of this morning) and that's amazing, but I wonder what I'll look like if I lost another 10 pounds? I don't remember ever being that weight since I was in high school... and that was a milliion years ago!!! One thing's for sure, I'm more fit than I've ever been and that feels great!

I'm 5'2.5 with CW 148 and GW 130 - and yes the extra 1/2" matters!

Aug was an incredibly tough month - end of a 5+ yr relationship has left me emotionally spinning but trying to get a little more grounded every day. I am determined to use Sept to reclaim my life and re-discover happiness on my own terms.

Every pound is a struggle when you are a shorty! I guess the benefit is that people tend to notice every ~ 5 lbs lost because it looks like much more on our tiny bodies :)

    Mini-goals
by end of Sept - 144.5 (lose 3.5 lbs), reward = go for bra fitting & get the "girls" looking good again!
    by Halloween - 142 (lose 2.5 lbs)
by Christmas - 139 (lose 3 lbs), reward = body fat dunk test, hope my % is in the "healthy" range & can give me better guidance for final GW
    by Valentines - 135 (lose 4 lbs)
  • Oooo can i join please? I am 5'1 - 5'2, hoping the last one is more accurate lol. I had a bad month in August tried to do a fad diet which obviously didn't work and i really hope to get stuck into it this month and finally lose some weight.

I am unsure of my goal weight i would like to lose 10lbs then see where i go from there. I am currently doing 30DS and hating it but seeing as i have made it half way through level 2 i will keep at it, i am hoping that will help me drop a couple of lbs.

I have a pub lunch planned tomorrow, then a birthday party. The 17th i have a wedding to go to. 23rd my cousin is home from a 4 month placement in the falklands (RAF) so drinkies with her, so this month is going to be pretty tough i just hope i can make some changes within my weight somehow.

Good luck to us all =)

    Welcome to all the newcomers!

I hope to be able to post a longer reply tomorrow. Just loved all the shrinking comments. I use to be 5'3" and 7/8ths. Now, I am 5'2". yes, those halves are important.

Thanks everyone for all the good humor here today. It really helps.

    i'm in :o)

I'm 5'1.5" SW174 CW158 GW 140? I've always been unsure about my goal weight. I've also always been curvier than the average short girl thanks to my genes (along with gaining weight evenly all over my body- a curse in my eyes)! I fully accept my curviness and like that but once I got up to 174.... wow! too high. I started being uncomfortable in my skin and I hate that. I've worked hard since March of this year and have had a really slow journey. Slow and steady wins the race I guess, right? I've been in a rut for the last month stuck at 158ish. GAH! I hate getting in a rut. I have a really active job where I typically work long hours so exercising is hard sometimes. Get home at 7, exercise? no way. So I've been exercising with Tracy Anderson's metamorphosis 3-4 times a week (three days a week I get off earlier and have plenty of exercise time) and watching calories, eating back exercise calories. MAN am I stuck though. I feel like I'm doing everything right but have gotten stuck. Although I did have a couple of odd weeks this month with some family drama, wasn't exercising much but still eating well. I'm confident it'll get better though. I had tried zigzagging calories a couple of months ago and that helped me get out of the 160's so maybe I'll try it again since my body and metabolism seemed to respond to it. I really liked it acutally. While the low calorie days are tough and boring food-wise, the higher calorie days are nice to look forward to. Anyways, I'd love checking in here and chatting :o) I'm a HUGE tracy anderson fan. I LOVE her workouts! They can be tough but so unique- i love that it's different from what I'm used to. Anyways, I need to get to work!.... since i'm at work... hahaha.... Maybe I can post longer later! Have a great afternoon/evening ladies! (i'm in washington state so it's afternoon here!)

 Hello, fit and fun sized friends. I am 5'3" (used to be 5'4") and have been on MFP since February 2009. I started at 183 thinking I probably had about 20 pounds to lose        As I lost weight, I knew that I had more than 20 pounds to lose and each pound lost made me happier. I kept losing until it felt right. I ignored the friends who said I was wasting away and kept going until I knew the number was right. I reached 113 in February 2010 and by August was down to 110. My weight has stayed between 110 and 113 with fluctuations from sodium, vacation, and holidays. I don't work full time so I have a lot of time for exercise. i have two lively standard poodles who loved to be walked so they provide me with a lot of exercise. They are not bothered by weather so we walk rain, snow, wind, whatever. I go to line dance classes three days a week.

 it doesn't matter what road blocks we had in August, this a new month full of great opportunity to reach our goals. Get off the couch, get away from the refrigerator, shut down the computer, and get moving.

i'm 1400-1600 a day, more around 1900+ when I exercise. My daily cals vary because my activity level greatly varies. I've got my food diary set at sedentary, and then I wear a pedometer all day and add my calories earned depending on how many miles i've walked. Some days it only 2, some days i's almost 6. Setting one calorie level doesn't work for me! I'm a medical assistant so some days i'm at my desk most of the day, others i'm up most of the day moving around.

I'm 5'2.5" and have my profile set to sedentary, so to maintain is about 1680 cal but my weight loss setting is 1/2 lb per week so I get 1430 cal per day. Seems to work well for me, I have been losing > 1/2 lb per week so don't see any reason to try to cut calories further.

Age 30, if that makes a difference, and I'm an avid runner ~ 25-30 miles/week and really trying to focus on more strength training. I usually eat back my exercise calories & also eat maintenance calories on Fri & Sat (10+ mile runs on Sat, eat more calories on these days to prepare for the stress on my body).

So for me, more calories is better :) Much less hunger and better loss than when I've tried 1200 cal in the past.

It's great to see so many new "pals". A short intro: I am 5 feet 1/2 inch. I've been on MFP since April 2010. I had reconstructive foot surgery June 1 of this year and am STILL recovering. I weighed myself this morning and I have GAINED 6 pounds. Not much, but I'm still discouraged. I start physical therapy tomorrow so hopefully will be able to exercise with my feet soon. Tomorrow I am going to start doing some sitting exercises. I have gotten lazy since surgery - I admit it!!

    Good luck everyone!!
