2nd longer term goal: Get back to my lowest weight during the journey 173.6 during November 2018.
Final goal: 145-155. We’ll see how I look & feel when I get there.

01/28 …..189.9 ….. TMI helped. I think there is some exercise inflammation today. Very very sore from the long school walk. Walked for 2 hours and 7 minutes at a pretty good pace burning 743 calories. Another 28 minute walk burned an additional 125 calories for a total burn of 868. Incomplete logging as I fell asleep early & exhausted. Yay me. I slept 6 hours & 29 minutes. A guesstimate of calories in are about 1800. Calories out 2834. 23,076 total steps & 10.18 Total Miles. 13/13 fitbit step hours. TRAVEL TODAY taking brother for some hospital testing including liver ultrasound. I will be leaving shortly and will be back sometime after dark tonight. I am going to try to stay strong & not upset the balance of my progress in my sugar levels. 01/29 …..191.8 ….. I’ve posted some new goals today. In regards to yesterday: My brother (who chooses the restaurant since he rarely travels & doesn’t drive) chose Pizza Hut yesterday during our travel. The WORST place for low carb. I don’t eat lettuce or salad so I tried to keep my portion small. My belly & thighs are like magnets for carbs. The scale goes up and the clothes feel tighter. I did try to offset by walking 58 minutes at about 3.0 mph in my house last night burning 325 extra calories. Otherwise, a lot of sitting during the driving and then later, more sitting during the movie night with my son. I had a few snacks I probably didn’t need during the movie but I tried not to let the pizza earlier turn my whole day into a carb fest. I hope a lot of what was on the scale this morning is fluid retention and will sort itself out today because it wasn’t a huge over-indulgence, just the wrong foods. Overall fitbit stats: Calories in unsure / Calories Out 2406. 14,315 Total Steps & 6.06 Total Miles. 11/13 fitbit step hours. I slept 4 hours & 27 minutes and am tired and groggy. Even with feeling so foggy and exhausted, I feel a strong resolve today. My glucose numbers were not bad this morning and it makes me feel encouraged. Welcome to all the newbies!

01/30 …..191.8 ….. Holding steady which is actually nice considering the very unexpected “lets go out to lunch” invite I got from DD#2. I couldn’t turn her down because we only get out together for anything a couple of times a year so we stayed local and I was mindful though I was over calorie and carb but not too bad. Fitbit stats: Calories In unsure/Calories Out 2409. 14,465 Total Steps & 6.12 miles. 13/13 Fitbit Step Hours. I slept 5 hours & 29 minutes but it was a toss & turn horrible night. Tired today. I walked for 79 minutes with DGS #2 (age 11) at the school while DGS #1 was in tutoring and hopefully getting back on track (ADHD). It was a shorter walk because tutoring is only 1 hour but we got it all in and a little extra after tutoring to boot. It is worth cutting my walks shorter if my grandsons each benefit in some way. Today will be another walk with grandson #2 during tutoring again. I am hoping to get my son out there with us, we shall see. I have to bribe him, but it’s a start!

01/28 - 190.4 not sure why I'm still going up, I ate very well yesterday. Will keep pushing today and hope to see some progress before I leave on my work trip. Scrambling to get lots of stuff ready before the trip!
01/29 - 188.8! So glad to see the scale move down instead of up. I was starting to get worried that my new prescription was responsible for the increase as I've read that can be a side effect, but trying not to get too paranoid and this helps. Continuing to power through work to prepare for my trip and making myself find time for exercise again. I was exercising daily before the holidays and now I've gotten so overwhelmed with work and my 4 hour commute that I stopped. Need to stop making excuses and get my rear back in gear. I think I have finally picked out my wedding dress and now I feel extra motivated to work to look my best in it.
01/30 - 188! Very happy, hope I can maintain this progress through the end of the challenge. Won't be able to weigh on my work trip so I'll just have to aim to maintain through the weekend and try my best while I'm out of town. Nervously preparing for my work trip now, hoping to get lots done before I'm presenting all next week. Sticking loyally to my diet today and trying to get some exercise in. I wanted to yesterday but I had a migraine for most of the day/night. Will do better today!

69 years old female...5'5" ...I used to be 5'7" but arthritis hit and I lost two inches, so now that two inches is squished around my waist like the billows of a big accordion...

...Oh, well. I'll just keep working on it.

We used to walk 5 miles a day. A pinched nerve and back surgery side-lined me for about a year. Then I had back surgery. Now I'm waiting to get my hip fixed. Hip Doc said surgery in April. Ugh! I can't do any walking or biking...both kill me. I see my personal trainer three times a week. She is taking it very slow and easy with me.

I have March 10th as my hip surgery date...much better than April!

01/28- 188.6 up and down up and down. my trend has leveled out. maybe tomorrow will be the day it points down. Feeling cross probably due to hormones so I decided to skip my yoga class and now I feel cross about that. Aiming for 1500 cals today.

01/29 - 188.8 wound up going WAY over my calories yesterday. I have a plan for today though.. I just need to stick to it and not lose motivation.

Strengthen strategies to reframe the tendency to use unhealthy snack food as a reward/treat.
Make sure I have prepared healthy snacks available

2018:
My goal was to get down below 160, to allow me to enjoy the indulgences of holidays and celebrations.
2019
I exceeded that and have been below 150 for most of the last 2 months.
In 2018, I put on 10 lbs over the last 2 months of the year.
In 2019, I consistently lost weight since the end of July. I put on about 4lbs over the Christmas break, but was still below my original 2019 goal.
That's a WIN in my book!

2020
I need this more than ever now that I am in maintenance! I might even manage to lose a bit more ever so slowly.

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.

Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

Stick with the process. It DOES work! But it does take time, effort, and most of all, patience!

This year I saw numbers I never believed I'd see again. I'm back below the obesity mark and intend to stay. Ten years ago I promised myself no birthday or gastric bypass "surgiversary" would find me obese again. I'm revising this to overweight.
Only 28lbs separate overweight and obese and 33lbs a solid normal 24 BMI and obese. Going forward overweight per the charts is no longer acceptable to me.It's not about the charts. I experience changes with even small shifts in body fat.
This round I want to reduce blood pressure and heart rate. I'll only achieve this in the 160's and below. I'll lose as much as I can this round. Low carb, fasting, & fat burning exercise will get me there.

01/29. 173.2.
As much as I hate seeing the scale go up I'm comforted with the knowledge that I weighed in with a belly full. When I weigh at my heaviest time of day I've got a built in psychological cushion.
Yesterday and today where planned totally free days. Yay me, I fasted over 18hrs yesterday and maintained calorie control both days. This fasting/ restricted eating protocol helps me with appetite control. It's a big plus that I've come to enjoy it. No hunger and it just feels right. My appetite returns when it's time to eat usually after 16-18hrs.

01/30. 171.6
I'm praying I'll be in the 160's before my next medical in a couple of weeks. Today's eating has been nutritional crap giving me three days of high sodium, sugar & flour.
The sodium is no issue when balanced with sufficient potassium. I'm all good once I'm eating my greens again. Sugar and flour are my personal kryptonite. It's going to take the weekend for me to get these out of my system.
Fingers crossed, the weekend recovery period will win me a pound or two of water weight loss. I'm back on low carb and watching my water intake.
Getting enough is easy for me. My problem is getting too much then needing diuretics. I've been warned but the sipping habit is hard to break. Beverages are a great substitute when I want to nibble.

No time to read this thread over the last few days but I'll catch up this weekend. Wishing you all well and thanks for all of your much needed support.

Thanks so much Jackie for sponsoring this awesome challenge!! :flowerforyou: It is totally my best one yet. I have really been struggling over the years. In 2019 even though I gained 25 pounds I learned a lot and this thread has help me slowly but surely get my head back in the game. Just reading these posts from people who focus on eating right every day, who weigh everyday just to stay on track like me, is a truly good for me and inspirational. I already know the benefits of weighing daily. The scale is by far my best friend. She never deceives me when she has batteries! lol She keeps me in check. If I had not been weighing at all in 2019, 25 pounds would have 75 for me as a former binge eater. I still struggle with binging but I have come a long way and it is a rare day I binge these days. And when I binge not as bad because of my surgery because I can't eat a lot of bad foods at one time like I use too.

Secondly, I want to thank ALL of the wonderful MFP's who participate in these wonder 10 day challenges!!! If not every day just posting your weight gain or lose means you are diligent and not giving up. It all helps. So keep on keeping on, together we got this!! Have a great challenge!! :flowerforyou:

I am glad that I am not the only one.

I enjoyed my day off but wow! I am SWAMPED being back at work. It is a double edged sword, unfortunately.

Thank you Donna. That first 10 days was amazing and reminds me how well I could do if I really tried 100%. I need to learn more how to get back on the wagon after falling off. I have missed all of you and very glad that I decided to try and come back.

I have been going non-stop for what feels like too long. I didn’t track a single item. I ate like crap. I sat on my butt all day. I had just had enough and needed a break. Bleh! **Okay, now that I’ve gotten that out of my system…back to the grind. All better now. 😊

01/29 – 204.1 (+0.4); Tuesday info; 7035 steps, 8 of 12, 5hr40m (73): Trying to pick myself up off the floor and get 100% back on track has proven difficult (which is normal). I was swamped at work all day which is probably the only reason I managed to get over 7K in steps. I felt like I was running all over the office like a crazed nutjob. I managed to track 2 meals and then faltered at home. (Missed journaling yesterday as well.)

01/30 – 204.9 (+0.8); Wednesday info: 5286 steps, 8 of 12, 5hr18m (71): No provider at work so we had an all day in-service with our retiring manager and our brand new manager, who is taking over 100% on Monday. Lots of tears as our office has been through A LOT with our retiring manager in the last 3+ years. I only managed to track breakfast. Taco bar potluck during the meeting. *LOVE* Skipped the desserts! #win (TMI: Just realized that I’m getting close to “shark week” so I’m PMS’ing. NomNomNom StressStressStress)

FYI - I am trying to boost my protein intake so I bought MuscleTech's Premium 100% ISO-Whey: GOURMET MILK CHOCOLATE flavor. For 1 scoop it is: 120 calories, 25g of protein, 0.5g total fat, 2g total carbs (>1g of fiber). I mix it in either a 20oz or 24oz shaker bottle with water and it is THE. BEST. CHOCOLATE. FIX. EVER!!!! Won't lie to you. It is expensive but A1Supplement.com has it BOGO so it's $66 for 96 servings.

While everyone is talking about McDonald's I will admit that after a day at the barn in which I've ridden a couple horses over the course of 5 or 6 hours and burned a lot of calories, I will sometimes indulge in a large fry and quarter pounder with cheese on the 2+ hr drive home. ((Although this PAST barn day, I grabbed Wendy's grilled chicken sandwich and apple bites.))

01/28 – 173.4 – Met my goals today, but had a high sodium lunch. Scratchy throat - Hope I’m not coming down with another cold.
01/29 – 173.4 – Holding steady. Gorgeous sunny day, so I was hoping to walk at the beach. Lost my voice after teaching back-to-back classes, so I skipped the walk on the windy boardwalk, did a couple of quick errands, and headed home to make a pot of tea and do some grading. Fortunately, I don’t have any classes tomorrow. Well under my calorie limit and drinking lots of extra fluids. Hoping that and an early night help me get back up to speed quickly.
01/30 – 172.6 – Nice to see another drop bringing me back to where I started the last round. Felt great after my gym session this morning. However, my 2-hr training workshop this afternoon required a lot more speaking than I’d anticipated, so my voice is even more strained. I seriously need to rest it tomorrow. Met my calorie, hydration, and exercise goals. If I do a quick load of laundry tonight, it’ll be a clean sweep
