is MFP more important than marriage?

well, not really a debate (I hope! )
Today is my wedding anniversary and coincidentally I recieved this message from MFP on receiving my 7 year MFP poster badge: Wow! Seven years. Your community relationships have outlasted most marriages.
Do most marriages really last less than 7 years these days?? (or was that exagerated hyperbole??)
Mine has so far lasted for 34 .

I'm 17 yrs and counting.... To be fair, not even counting. 😂😂😂5

17 years for me, too! But to be fair, my husband and I work so much that it’s kind of like dog years. I haven’t seen him in 10 days, and we will celebrate Valentines Day this year by each working a 15-hour day.
But I guess that’s why our marriage works...if one of us had a regular 5-day, 40-hour work week, there would be problems.6 -
I got my 9 year at MFP last November; been with SO since ‘84 and still haven’t got around to marriage.
I’m a procrastinator
Way before MFP my marriage didn’t last more than 4yr, so maybe MFP has some relationship staying power magic
Cheers, h.9 -
Unfortunately, most marriages last less than 7 years. We are currently at 13 years married (18 together).5

It will be 54 years for me and my husband in a couple of months . I don't think that MFP was around in mid 60s, and not many of the present members either .37

I count marriage in 'dog years'.8

This piqued my interest so I got to googling it. It was a bit hard to dicipher originally because a lot of places claim this stat as fact. But it's not really true, as there is an important qualifier.
Marriages, that end in divorce , last an average of 7 years. So not all marriages, since only half end in divorce. Most places that quote this stat have dropped the "that end in divorce" part, so it becomes pretty misleading in those cases.

Happy Anniversary!!
Our marriage has survived 42 yrs. but we lived apart for 12 of them. Just chose to never divorce and ended up living together again.10 -
I'll be here 7 years next week and have been married for 34 years this May. Are we twins?2

MFP for five years. 1st marriage (which was doomed from the beginning) dragged on for 3.5 mostly awful years. And now I am married to my soulmate, we have 2 beautiful babies, a 27 mo old and an 8 mo old, and we’ve been married 3 years, 5mo and met each other 4 years ago. Last month we celebrated the anniversary of our first date 🥰 we are revoltingly cute and celebrate lots of little things. I love him. Ok shutting up now.18

Thank you and happy anniversary!
I meet my husband in 1963, so we really have been together for 57 years (although we didn't live together until we got married). I wouldn't change this man for the world.8 -

I met my husband in 1963 too! Mr. McCue's 7th grade spanish class 😊 We reconnected in high school and have been married 49 years 😍10 -

I think it's marriages that end in divorce on average last 7 years or less...so not really most marriages...just those that end in divorce.
Wife and I have been married for 14 years going on 15 in August. Unfortunately, many of our friends are divorced...there's only one couple of all of the people we hang with that are still together.2 -
My first marriage was a couple months short of 10 years.
My second is almost at 7 right now and no signs of declining thankfully Hoping for many many more!
My friends are a mix...in our forties, most have been married for 15+ years or their marriages failed after less than 5 years.4 -
https://de.statista.com/statistik/daten/studie/1346/umfrage/anzahl-der-geschiedenen-ehen-nach-ehedauer/
The chart shows divorces after x years of marriage for Germany.
I'm quite sure that such statistics exist for USA too.
So, for Germany, most marriages last longer than 7 years
What I found interesting is the high rate of divorced "long-term-marriages".
Possibly because their modus-operandi (raise the kids) became obsolete?
Edit:
For me it's 24 years and counting ...5 -

My husband was my boss. Now, I am the boss...7 -
My first marriage ended after 18 years. It was very, very rough. I've been married to the love of my life now for 12+ years and plan on dying as his wife10

She married me 36.some years ago. The only "richer" we've had was in the words that day.7

So far my marriage has outlasted MFP. This month marks 4 years here and last week was our 25th Anniversary. Although I have to say there were serious doubts we would actually make that mark. Raising a rebellious teen is hell on a marriage.9
-
Depends whom you are married to...4
-
My marriage lasted for a whole two years before we separated. (Though technically it lasted a lot longer because it took us both ages to get around to getting divorced).
It would have been helpful to know my husband was gay going in.25 -
will be 8 years at MFP in May...
and will be married 32 years in July3 -
I do love MFP but I definitely love my wife more! 18 years together & 11 years married6
