Good morning all, today I am 61!! I am 194 lbs, most I've ever weighed. Part of the problem is I work 10 hour days sitting at a computer. I am taking a big step in helping combat that by purchasing a ball computer chair today. I'll be working my core muscles while I work.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I dusted off my Garmin this am too.5 -
Good morning everyone!!! Tracking is important it helps me to see what I am doing. Movement is important also even if you just do laps inside your house you are still moving! You can also get a ball and during commercials throw it up and catch it by the time the commercials are over you have done some cardio. Well everyone have a great day. Rember move it or loose it!! That's a great idea with the laps and catching the ball. My husband and I like to watch movies on DVD in the afternoon. We got two 12" high step stools and we step up and step down until we get tired, then we rest and start all over again. By the time the movie is over, we get about 1 hour of steps in on our fitbits.

I bought a set of stretch bands and use them in the house when I am looking for something to do that is not “housework”. It can be as little as 5 min or as much as 15 min4

Ask your employer to purchase you a height adjustable desk riser, then you can decide to stand when you want, or lower to sit. A stool is good for this setup too, as you can sit and get much better back posture.

It sure is promising to see all the inspiring advice from our group. Welcome to the new joins.
Tracking for the day each morning and planning my exercise along with moving more through the day seems to fall into place more easily with repetition. I will reach and maintain my goal this year. Today I added a little more weight to the gym workout. Slow and steady makes it possible. Keep up the good work y'all and enjoy your evening treat of "If every day were like today…you'd weigh ___ in 5 weeks."

I have a pair of dumbbells and do the same during commercials. If you don’t have to concentrate too much, like watching sport, it’s easy to get yourself into a rhythm and keep on going. Bicep curls is an easy one to start with.

Good morning from Texas! This is my view this morning from my front porch. I came out here to have my coffee and read through my Sunday School lesson before church. I had a few extra minutes so I thought I would explore the Community section of this app. I’ve been using the app for quite some time but have never taken a look. What a delightful surprise to find such an enthusiastic collection of compatriots who share such similar demographics! I am looking forward to reading through the previous posts later this afternoon so I can get to know each of you a bit. I am interested to know if you feel participating in this group is proving helpful in your weight loss journey. Is it a tool you often use?

Good morning, lots of good posts.
To stay active I have been trying to walk and/or ride my bicycle. The bicycle has been very good for me, I rode a lot when I was younger but had not been on a bike in over 30 years. Last year as I began to lose weight I started thinking about exercise and decided to try a bike again. I got a kind of heavy duty mountain bike that I thought could withstand my weight and got started. It was rough at first, I really struggled to even do half a mile. Yesterday I did 6 miles on a rough up and down gravel road, it feels good. And now I have lost enough weight not to really need the heavy duty any more, but I like my bike. Its winter here, when spring comes I am really looking forward to some good riding.
My wife was quite skeptical in the beginning, and I guess I was too. Never thought a fat 67 year old like me could get back into biking, but I have. Part of the reason I went to the bike was that I didn't think I could walk, too much knee and foot damage from all the years of being overweight. Now that I am almost 100 lbs down I find walking isn't so hard, I can do that too.
I still have 50 pounds or so to lose, being able to exercise will help with that. If I can do this, anyone can, I am not smarter or wiser than anyone reading this, maybe uglier though!

I tell people that the mutual support and encouragement is the best feature of this website. I've been overweight most of my life - lost and gained weight numerous times - yada yada yada. This site has helped me lose 50 pounds and keep it off for two years. Had never maintained any loss for that long in the past. Definitely has helped me.

Hey Jim Welcome!I have learned that as I have gotten older it’s easy to expect too much of your body and get discouraged so that is one area I am trying to correct, which is to be patient.

I just wanted to add my thoughts. As I have limited mobility due to knee and foot issues, I have not been able to do any of my usual fun things that I like to do. Having said that, I have been careful at what I eat and stay within the calorie allotment that Mfp has provided. I have been steadily losing weight. It's the old adage, calories in, versus calories out. So if you have limited mobility, losing weight can be done. Also, if your arms are ok, you can do weight resistance, I do that everytime I go to the powder room or kitchen! Have a great day everyone😊4

Hello to everyone in the group! I just turned 60 and I am almost the heaviest I have ever been. About 5 years ago, I weighed 278 lbs, yesterday, I weighed 272. I had been ranging from 245-255, until the past few months. I first joined MyFitness years ago, tracking calories and all was very helpful. Back then, I actually started running again and ran my first (and only) half marathon in 2015. I am going to change that stat! I have my motivation back, better than ever and going to get fit and drop 70 lbs! Can’t remember last time I weighed 200 lbs. Lofty goal I know, but it is going to be fun getting there!
So, anyone interested in sharing...giving and getting motivation when needed...I welcome the friendships! Here is to staying connected and motivated!5 -

Today I did YouTube "Senior Fitness with Meredith - Resistance Bands Full Body Workout," some hand weight reps, floor core and leg work. Also practiced balance and some techniques for getting up and down from the floor more easily (senior falls can be serious.) The sunshine and predicted rain this week got me out to the park for a nice long walk too. Lately I've amazed myself at what I can accomplish in spite of pain from knee and shoulder arthritis and discomfort from the other knee total replacement some time ago. If addressing your knee and foot issues are medically or surgically possible, by means seriously consider it. Getting my hips replaced last year was nothing short of lifechanging!! For years before, I was an immobile mess and for years being a stubborn jack--- in resisting all notions of getting checked/treated didn't help none! Simply being ABLE to move around is nothing but an asset to overall health and weight loss; less than a month after 2nd surgery I weighed 281, today I hover around the 240 area. I applaud what you do and wish you well.2 -

My knee is scheduled for the end of the month and my feet are currently receiving treatment twice a week. Thank you 😊4 -
Hi everyone! I feel for you mobility issues, I had a hip replacement that had to be done again due to the implant being recalled. That second surgery has resulted in a loss of strength due to muscle loss. Anyway, just want to suggest Functional Training to you all. This type of training keeps you strong, balanced and flexible as you age. My husband and I are devoted fans as it has kept us moving and able to be active.4

Hey Julia, first off you don't look 68. Hopefully the surgeries will give you some of your mobility back. Please feel free to add me. I am just getting back to it after surgery to relieve pressure on a nerve core in my neck.

Good morning everyone!! We have sunshine here in Oregon today it sure does lighten the mood. Have all ready got my exercise in this morning I go to Curves and was debating on going today but I did go and am glad I did! Pippo11 I like the weights idea I am going to get some and start doing that thank you! I really enjoy reading about everyone’s journey . Just take one day at a time . Thankful and counting my lucky stars that so far (a year out from first) my hip replacements have taken well and no recall issues I know of have come to pass. The most effective exercise for me has been walking and pool exercise, basically taking my hip PT into water. Kudos for finding what works best for you!0 -
