Question for you lovely people that came to me ask I’m reading your updates:
How often do you weigh yourself?
I used to be someone to weigh myself 2-3 times a week, but not I always weigh myself Monday morning, right after I wake up. I used to “need to know” what my weight was so much more often and then would be disappointed if I didn’t see much progress. We all know that water, maybe not working out as much the day before, etc can play huge factors in what you see on the scale.
Anyways, asking this because now that I have set a day to weigh in, I feel like I’m somewhat “looking forward” to weigh in day because I will see more progress than if I was constantly checking. Wondering what you ladies are doing to see if you have any other tips/ideas to maintaining a healthy mindset!!
As always, great work ladies!! Love reading these posts!!4 -
I weigh most mornings as a check-in and am working on just seeing it as "where in the fluctuations am I?" and not stressing about it. In a day to day way I'm not stressing, but I've been having a long plateau, and that's Not Fun. Even if I can feel I'm losing weight because the thighs of my new jeans are getting loose, the bra is fitting better, etc.3

I finally hit ONE-derland!!!
Haha! I love it! ONE-derland! That's so awesome. CONGRATS to you, @kali31337! Enjoy your lifetime pass in the magical realm of ONE-derland! I can't wait to visit there one day myself! Haven't been there since my early 20's.4 -
I am so behind, work and school have been so busy, but I've been reading everyone's post! I hope to catch up.
@speyerj, that is amazing! You're amazing. I hope the BP weight works itself out soon. You've made SO much progress, the 6lbs will be a drop in the bucket.
@Bella_Figura, I love that mindset, that is something I am working on as well. I am not going to be perfect all the time and I am going to make mistakes, but that doesn't erase all the hardwork I've put in so far.
@sharpdust, I hope that feeling of shame has lessened, we aren't perfect and this is a journey where we're all still learning what works best for our bodies. I'm proud of you for stepping on the scale even if you didn't want to, that takes courage, especially when we're experiencing those feelings of shame.
@Lasmartchika, have you tried stretching that area specifically? My calf muscles can get really tight, especially if it's cold, and I do not stretch properly before exercise. As well as drinking a lot of water!
@MyBeth1, cravings happens, indulgence happens. It does not stop all the other progress you're making. Have you considered making your own pizzas? That way you can control exactly how much sauce, cheese, toppings, etc. is going onto the pizza. I have started to do that and it really does completely change the nutrition.
@Tarzan37, I'm sending warm thoughts to you. your sister, and your mom. I also turn to food for comfort and then I end up beating myself up when I am already feeling down. You can do this. I hope things turn around soon.
@CupcakeCrusoe, it's easy to get into our own heads when we have one bad day, but I just try to remember that tomorrow is a new day and I can make new choices.
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971, I hope you're feeling better.
@KeriA, I hope you also have had a good week so far.
@aliciap0116, take photos of the fundraising event! You're going to look great. Also sounds like you did great with being outside your food bubble, I hope that I can get to that point. It can be hard to workout when you're tired, especially if you are ready to relax.
@MuttiNM, you are doing great and your son sounds like quite the inspiration. Good luck to him on his trip.
@fitchick37, I struggle with eating veggies, that is something that I am trying to work on, too.
@BrownSugar174, what an interesting concept, it makes a lot of sense.
@lbostic89, losing weight is such an emotional journey and it can be hard to understand until it starts to happen. That is why I love coming here, I know people can relate when I am having a rough day.
@SkylarStrength28, welcome! I find that exercise helps with my depression and anxiety SO much. I can wake up and feel that it is going to be what I call an "anxious day" but as soon as I hit my class and get it done, I feel great. Granted it has not completely eliminated depression/anxiety, but it has made a world of difference.
@kali31337, that's amazing!! Congratulations! We are all so proud of you.
@KristinaPS713, I try to weigh only once a week, but that is because at one point I was very obsessive with the scale and it would just totally dictate my mood, so I knew I had to stop. I weigh-in on Fridays or Saturday. I try to hit at least 6-7 days apart between weigh-ins.
Whew, I hope I got everyone! I am hoping to be more active moving forward, that depressive episode I had honestly just took me for a ride. I really just had to focus on getting the bare minimum done because that is all I felt like I could do. It finally feels like I can breathe again. Did my food slack a little during that time? Yes, but I am not going to beat myself up. Curveballs happen and now I am back on track again. I hope everyone is having a nice week so far!
Also, anyone that is new, please feel free to add me. I love having people on my newsfeed.10 -

I weigh most mornings as well. Probably 6 days a week. I like these daily fluctuations as it often not only shows me when I eat too much with too much salt, it can also surprise me when I eat off plan and then I wake up and the number really hasn't moved. The daily weigh-ins keep me motivated and can keep me making good decisions because I have a weigh in the next morning.5 -

I weigh in every morning. I'm an engineer, I like data. Which is a blessing and a curse, because having lots of data is great. Taking lots of data like right now when I know my calories are on point but my weight's not getting the message (probably cycle related) is not great at all. Still, I continue. Because more data= patterns later. I like patterns.7 -
Late bloomer here. I had kidney surgery 12/19/2019 to remove a cyst. At that time i weighed approximately 305 lbs. I weighed last week with primary care and was down to 285 lbs. It's hard work! My goals are listed in my profile and have been the same for a while now. Since surgery, I have decided i need to get this weight off, ween myself off high blood pressure medicine, reverse my pre-diabetes condition and get off the metformin pill and just get to a healthy me! Start weight 305 lbs, current is 285 lbs and my goal weight is 230 lbs!. Pray for me ladies!12

@kali31337 Congrats!!! That's amazing
@torihudson6 I feel 100 times better than I did Tuesday night. Shame has definitely subsided, I am very emotional so in those moments I did feel intense shame but it went away soon after I posted. Its all self-induced, you all are super supportive and I knew no one would judge deep down.
@KristinaPS713 I officially weigh in once a week on Wednesday so thats the weight I log into MFP. However, I weigh daily in the morning after the bathroom and before my shower. Its more like a progress check but not official. So any gains/losses aren't recorded but just a view of where I am going. When I slack, like I did the last 2 weekends, I tend to not weigh myself out of fear of what I may see. So weighing is an accountability thing for me, but it doesn't "count" unless its Wednesday.
I had a good day yesterday eating. Feeling much better and already seeing the scale go down. 10 days left until the end of the month!

@kali31337 Congratulations!!! Happy Onederland!!
@KristinaPS713 I have my weigh in day on Fridays. But if I'm curious, I'll jump on the scale just to see how's it going. But, I don't really pay too much attention to it. I have not been curious lately since Valentine's and TOM should be coming to visit soon... I know it'll be UP!!5 -
@KristinaPS713 Add me to the "weigh every day" group. It helps me normalize weight fluctuations and prevents the scenario where my high sodium day is the day before the one time per week I hop on the scale and I feel like I've ruined a whole week when it was really just one bad day to weigh.9
-
I’m a weigh every day too but count Wednesday as my official weigh in day.
I went swimming today for the first time in at least two years, my legs ache so much now! What a calorie burn though9 -
I love swimming as exercise!!! It’s my hands down favorite form of exercise!
Sorry for not being around as much lately! School has been so busy and I have been slipping up too much. Even “little” slips add up so I count them all. I try to pay attention to the quality of the nutrients I eat vs the total number of calories I eat, though. Fundamentally, foods that are nutrient dense are usually low in calories with the exception of a small handful of foods like avocados and beans....lean meats probably carry the highest number of calories...
Anyway...Idk if I’ll hit my very generous goal of 4 lbs this month. I’m just not hitting the mark.
🤷♀️9 -
@KristinaPS713 I’m still in my first month of this journey so I’m weighing in daily just to see how my body is responding. More of a curiosity kind of thing. My official weigh in day is Sunday (as that’s the day I started on this journey) and that’s the weight I really count at the end of the week. Hoping to decrease the amount of times I weigh in next month, it gets a little bit addictive checking in on progress.7

@kali31337 Huge CONGRATULATIons!!!
weigh in daily first thing, that's where the high sodium connection of indian food and 4 lbs jump was noticed.3 -
Hi my name is angel 39, 5”4 218lbs and I’m having surgery on my hip in June so I’m prepping to lose before surgery and for thereafter when I shall regain my ability ( fingers crossed) to go on walks and exercise 🙂🙃🙂. I was very active in mfp in 2016 but then I was injured and kinda fell off after that as my hip got to where I couldn’t exercise at all. So far I’m doing diet only. Bc I can’t walk or bend. But I’m going to start trying something suggested that was water therapy and stretches to build up my muscles in the are for a better recovery!10

@svm569, @fitchick37, @Terytha, @Lasmartchika, @sharpdust, @CupcakeCrusoe, @kali31337, @torihudson6, @AlexandraFindsHerself1971 Wow thank you for all the responses!
Seems like a majority weight every day as a check in for how we’ve been doing the day before.
I wish I had the mental fortitude to do that, but checking the scale (especially when it’s not where I want it to be) can be especially hard! It’s inspiring that so many of you view it as a positive way of seeing where you are in your journey. I hope to get a bit more confident one day!!
Thanks y’all for your answers!6 -
@lbostic89 Such a great mindset! I can relate to aching feet and legs at the end of the day, but compression socks (20-30 mmHg) worked wonders! Now my only hard day is Wednesday when I'm on my feet in a tiny area for a full day of surgery cases
@kali31337 Congratulations on ONEderland!!! You're such an inspiration! I'll be focusing on that as a motivator tonight at the gym!
@CupcakeCrusoe I like data and patterns, too. Good stuff!
@KristinaPS713 Every day at home, twice a week at work. I hate the discrepancy between the scales at work and home because by the time I get to work I've already had breakfast and have scrubs on. Sometimes it's an 8-pound difference!2 -
@KristinaPS713 I do just like @sharpdust does. I officially weigh in on Wednesdays and log that weight. I usually step on the scale most days but barely pay attention to it until Wednesday. It's just to make sure things are relatively on track until it's time to record my "official" weight on Wednesday.3
