Mild NSFW: Conflicted about prominent ribcage

I thought that by getting more fit, my torso would become more flat. I commonly get comments about me “sucking in to look thinner” but I am not, my ribs just stick out on their own. After some research, I have found out that I have Pectus Excavatum result in flares ribs. I have ordered a brace to correct this and all of the weightlifting/belly dance/ aerial I am doing serves as the physical therapy needed to address PE. I used to think it was sort of sexy or feminine, but in researching PE, it has come to light that it is considered unattractive. It results in a sort of “pot belly” appearance up high when standing, and the ribs are extremely visible while lying down. I haven’t made up my mind to “fix” or keep my ribs. I already know I am prone to body dismorphia, which is why I turn to you, lovely community, for some realistic vision. Please please please give me your honest answers about these ribs of mine. I want the truth of a third party. I have a solutions to suit me no matter what the general consensus is.
I am hoping to get answers from men and women alike.
My question is this:
Do you find the extra curve sexy or deforming?

I don't see it at all. You look completely normal to me.

You look fine to me5

I think you look fantastic! All that truly matters is what YOU think and feel about how you look. If someone says anything negative, what I usually do is smile and politely thank them for their opinion. In the end, it is just that, their opinion.
Hang in there, and keep doing what makes you happy! 😎2 -
You look normal to me. I don't see what you are describing.3
-
I'm really not seeing anything out of the ordinary here.2
-
You look great to me!
Also, I thought PE was a caved-in upper chest. My friend had that when we kids. I do not see that with you.4 -
Your ribs look normal to me. Even overweight, my ribs are more prominent when I lie down.. pretty sure that's how bodies just work?6
-
You found research that said something was unattractive? That seems like a faulty starting position. Everything I see in the pic is perfectly normal... this is how people look when their job isn't to be on magazine covers and they don't have a team of photoshoppers behind them.
The most attractive thing is those pictures is actually blocked by the phone (hint: your face). IMO, a happy smiling face is more attractive than any set of abs or ribs or whatever else.7 -
It looks a lot like ribs on other women to me.
And why go with the consensus of people on the Internet? What do YOU want? Do that.2 -
Looks normal to me. I also have very prominent ribs, sometimes people think I am too lean because of it but that's just the way my body is. It never really bothered me otherwise!
Were you diagnosed with this condition and do they deem it serious enough for intervention?2 -
Looks good/normal to me!0

Or was it Dr. Google?
Because my lower ribs are pretty prominent, too. Never occurred to me that it was even weird.6 -

Now you won't be able to NOT see it...0 -

I've always noticed they are prominent. Other people have noticed and even commented. It's never bothered me.
What do you think, @cmriverside? Noticeable lower ribs?

All, keep in mind OP says she has body dysmorphia.
OP, I'm not a doctor but you don't look to me like you have PE. You look like a healthy, attractive young woman.3 -
I had to go Google it. Nope, I think one would know for certain if they had this, and probably would be diagnosed at birth.

OP herself admits to being prone to dysmorphia, and has self-diagnosed the condition shown here:quiksylver296 wrote: »I had to go Google it. Nope, I think one would know for certain if they had this, and probably would be diagnosed at birth.
And you think we're hasty to suggest that the dysmorphia is the issue?

I agree with the others, I don't see what you see, you look very normal.0

My mistake... I missed the self-admitted diagnosis in OP's post. Guess I should read more closely...3 -
In the OP, she says:I already know I am prone to body dismorphia, which is why I turn to you, lovely community, for some realistic vision.0 -
I am truly surprised you all think I appear normal! Thank you so much! This really helps me with my perspective.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻7

My ribs are a little bit more prominent, but I wouldn't consider it out of the ordinary. I like my prominent ribs, they hold my boobs up.4

Mine, too. Oh, wait....

Still going through all the messages and trying to figure out how to reply to people individually. Can someone tell me how? Ha ha!
I cannot figure out how to add this to the original post but here’s another photo that hopefully shows what I mean a little better. It is hard to show the indent in my chest due to my breast, and also, I blocked my face in the photos on purpose. I feel really vulnerable showing myself to people, especially the internet.
I am self diagnosed right now based on appearance and physical issues I have had lifelong, which are associated with PE. (Asthma, decreased endurance, heart palpitations, chest pain, etc.) PE has a spectrum, and I know I am somewhere on it. I am waiting for my appointment for official diagnosis. Many people have commented about my ribs from coworkers, to strangers, to lovers.

Like the others, I'm still not seeing any pronounced lower ribs that seem outside quite a common range of normal.
I know you're not asking about belly shape, but I'm still going to suggest that you look at this thread:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10689837/does-this-uterus-make-my-stomach-look-fat/p1
There are many photos there of normal women's midsections, and many of them include ribcage. I think your lower ribcage is absolutely within the range of normal, as seen there. I have no idea whether you have a diagnosable condition, but I think you look normal.
I think it's very bizarre for people (coworkers, strangers) to comment on someone's ribcage, completely unprovoked: Rude and ridiculous. Any lover who criticizes over something like that should be promptly thrown out of bed, home, and life, IMO (but I'm old now, and seriously lack patience with nonsense ).5 -
Just to add: we got the same big rib thing going on. Be proud of your hard work.1

After loosing weight I noticed my left bottom rib appears to be more pronounced than my right but strangely enough I am loosing more fat on the left than the right of my belly1
-
You look great and also normal!1

I think I figured out how to reply.... so this is partly a test and partly a MASSIVE thank you for the link. It has brought me much joy and some relaxation. 🖤6
