Anyone avoiding the gym because of the you-know-what virus?

I don’t live in an area with a high rate of infection. So far. As far as I know. But I have begun to wonder if I should work out from home for a while.

I am debating about going tomorrow... I just got back to a good routine. This blows.2

Not yet. No reported cases in my state, and I don't have a home gym.
Wiping things down and washing hands a lot.6 -
Very thankful for my home gym. Cases are started to crop up in the area, states of emergency declared, schools closing, etc. I've not been told to work from home yet but will likely be doing so soon. Everyone be safe out there.3

I use the gym in my apartment complex, so it gets less traffic than the average gym. They've put out extra wipes to clean the equipment and I still feel okay using it for now. I'm usually a stickler for wiping down my equipment pre- and post-use anyway.0

I'm not avoiding the gym but I've decided to stop licking the barbells....
Although more seriously there's been a welcome uptick in people cleaning the equipment with the sanitaizer wipes that are provided.18 -
I have a home gym and I workout outdoors, but I have put my aerial yoga and pole fitness classes on hold for now.5

I'm still going to my gym and Pilates studio... I got pink eye a couple years ago, so since then I've been very good at washing my hands/wiping down equipment/not rubbing eyes/etc.
I was a bit surprised with how packed it was the other day (I was expecting it to slow down)... no slow down around here yet!1 -
No I will not be avoiding at this time.
Having a compromised and taxed immune system...I'm one that could experience great complications if infected, but training is more important to me than not.
I will continue to practice basic personal hygiene and go about my training.6 -

Same here. There was a virus-related death at a hospital in my county in Georgia today. Older person with underlying health conditions but still. I guess my social anxiety is serving me well for once. (I have a treadmill, recumbent bike, pull up tower, Smith/cable machine, bench, tons of dumbbells and kettlebells, cardio DVDs, yoga mat, and various other stuff that I've been collecting over the years. I can also work from home if needed. Other than picking up my new puppy on Saturday I don't need to leave the house ever again...)1 -
No. I’m definitely not. Funny thing is....the boot camp style class I do to is crazy into “high fiving”. I’ve never been super into it but I do it if someone puts a hand up. Corporate said “no more high fiving”. But yet we all rotate through the same weights, med balls, resistance bands, stability balls, etc etc. I always have scrubbed my hands and use hand sanitizer after class....and I don’t see hardly ANYONE washing their hands, even still. 🤷🏻♀️3

Yes. I'm not going to the gym indefinitely. I'm not worried that the virus will kill me or even give me much trouble, but I don't want to kill my parents by passing it on to them. Mom is goingto be 70 this year.
I'm still skiing through.8 -
No, i went to the gym last night and I'll go again tonight. I am trying to use the hand sanitizer more between machines, which I'm pretty good about doing anyway.0

My gym was a ghost town this morning. I've been doing a lot of wiping down b4 and after equipment use. I'm still going to go the gym. This totally sucks!0

I'm still going to pilates, but being more careful. I did notice the classes are smaller, but it could be because of the time of the year (Spring break). I also work one to one with a trainer. It is one room, one person. So I'm only around the trainer. Again...being careful of the surfaces I touch.0

I stopped going to the gym a couple of weeks ago. Even though I'm at a low risk for infection personally, I'm taking public health warnings about congregating in large groups seriously--I know that it statistically increases the odds of ANYONE getting infected, including older or immunocompromised folks who can't fight the virus as well as I can. You don't necessarily show symptoms when you're infected, and I'd rather not drive up the odds of making someone else sick. It's up to all of us to protect each other!
I've used this as an opportunity to start teaching myself to run outside, something I've always been very bad at. At home, I'm doing youtube video workouts and lots of bodyweight exercises like pushups.8 -
I stopped going to martial arts where we, and the classes before us, crawl all over the floor and each other. Still going to the gym but using lysol wipes on every piece of equipment before and after use. I would also stop my run or lift if someone nearby was coughing, but usually there are few enough people in my gym that we get the 3-6 feet of safe space.2

I've stopped swimming and have been using my apartment's gym. Been definitely more religious about disinfecting equipment.0

My gym... doesn't have any soap in the bathrooms.
But I have a contract.
So I guess I'll go but only with a bag of sanitary supplies.2 -
The gym is going to be empty and CLEAN! I'm def still going.4
-
I'll be at the gym in the morning.0

Purely by coincidence after I posted this we get an email at work from someone who has been out sick with what is presumably the flu that his son had last week but he was going for a test this evening (for the flu) just to be sure. As it happens I had to be in his office for a conference call the day before he came down with whatever it is so I thought I’d do the responsible thing and skip the gym tonight. Just in case.7

You cannot avoid it.
You are going to get it eventually, and that is going to mean two weeks in quarantine, imprisoned at home.
You gotta get your work in while you can!1 -
Been going to the pool. I figure 90 minutes of chlorine (usually alone) should kill anything. 😆
All joking aside though, my sister was telling me that everybody (staff AND members) at her gym have been very vigilant about wipe downs, washing before and after workouts in the bathroom, etc. Tbh it sounds like gyms in my area are safer than any medical building.2 -
My gym is technically a community center that is owned by the city.
The governor of my state declared no gatherings of over 100 people (some exclusions) but its likely my gym will be closed as of tomorrow.
Super bummed.
Highly considering setting up a home gym with bumper plates, rack etc.
I honestly think I’ll feel pretty lost without my training1 -
My gym has closed for the time being, so I can't go even if I wanted to.
I figure there are lots of things I can do at home, as a workout. Better safe than sorry!0 -
Yes. My country (and city), had zero cases 96 hours ago. Now we have 27. It's been here a lot longer than that and who knows how many have it. A place with hundreds of people, all sweating over each other, is the exact last place to be right now.6

I was going to take a break from the gym before everything got crazy for a few weeks due to not having the extra $60 for the month. So guess it's my YouTube videos at least till April.0

I'm fortunate to have a reasonably well equipped home gym so it's not an issue for me (no more shaking hands with clients at work & encouraging them to submit documents electronically) but I had a conversation with my son about upping the hygiene at his gym (shipping him spare 1200 ml container of hand sanitizer - should probably send it by Brinks...)

My gym (Youfit) was open last night when I went. It was just as busy at 10PM as it normally is. (In other words, pretty empty.)2

My gym has been gloriously dead this week.2
