Stocking up on what??

I'm just curious, those of you who are stock-piling in prep for this virus, what items are you focusing on? I know t.p. is #1 to not forget.
But as far as eating.....fill the freezer, canned goods, boxes or rice, pasta. I eat lots of fresh. Just trying to think forward to my shopping this weekend. Would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
And what about fever reducers and cough suppressants? We tend to only buy that stuff as we need it but in the event of having to self quarantine, there'd be no way to go get meds.?

I'm not stocking up on anything. I'm following the advice of the WHO and CDC.43

I made sure we still had some ibuprofen and cough suppressant (we usually keep some on hand).
For food, we have about two weeks worth of food here -- staples like canned beans and vegetables, pasta, some potatoes, cooking oil. If we do have to stay in, it won't be a luxury menu, but we'll have enough to eat. I also made sure that we have enough dog food for the next couple of weeks. I am not going to be stocking up two weeks worth of fresh food because I don't want to rush through eating everything.8 -
We stocked up on toiletries and medication. Things are getting scarce around here and I want to have stuff on hand. We also stocked up on frozen food and pantry items. I also stocked up on tequila. Cause that's important 🤣😂 :drinker:14

I really wish people would quit hoarding toilet paper. Do they really think they need 50 rolls of toilet paper if they get stuck in their house for 2 weeks? Coronavirus does not cause diarrhea. For those of us who are just out of it and just need one package, we are SOL. Thanks to everyone hoarding toilet paper.45

I'm targeting a 2-3 week supply, so I need to take inventory of what I already have.
I'm focusing on foods that we eat regularly or use in a lot of different dishes which are shelf-stable or are/can be frozen. Things like frozen blueberries, corn, and peas, chicken, crackers, pumpkin (for my dog), crushed tomatoes, canned peaches and pears, pasta, couscous, baking items, pouches for my toddler, and beer or wine. We just bought dog food and the dry cat food, but I buy canned cat food weekly.
For household essentials I will look at things like toothpaste, kleenex, body wash/soap, shampoo, conditioner, feminine products, laundry detergent, and paper towels. We already have enough toilet paper, hand soap, lysol, bleach, etc.

People aren't hoarding toilet paper here. They're clearing the shelves and trying to resell on Craigslist. Like they are doing with masks and hand sanitizer. I wish I was joking.18 -
I got an email at work this week asking employees to stop stealing the hand sanitizer gel and toilet paper.12

Mostly I'm keeping bigger reserves. Like the milk we use has a long unopened life, so I'm keeping 2 unopened ones in the fridge rather than waiting until one runs out. Also planning to get some frozen veggies to sub for our usual fresh if required, so I hope there wasn't a run on those.
Normally I buy a lot of things in bulk when on sale or at a warehouse store, so I have good supplies of most things on hand all the time. It helps to have a giant pantry.2 -
I have a colleague from Wuhan and she reports that her parents didn't notice stockpiling related shortages. However, when the city went into lock down, people were not allowed to go out to shops. All shopping had to be done online with cashless transactions and deliveries. She says her mom spent a lot of time on the phone helping older people who didn't know how to order and pay online.16

The only thing I’ve actually bought is one bottle of laundry detergent. I still have some, but maybe not enough?
I always keep 2 or 3 TV dinners, some frozen veggies and frozen meat. Just bought water and toilet paper not too long ago when they were on sale. I have cough drops left over from last cold. Bought hard candy on sale after Xmas that I also use for coughs. I think I’m good.3 -
I’d say that at any given point I have enough store cupboard stuff around that I could feed my family with some ingenuity and invention for a good three months - yes, we’d lack fresh goods but unless you have no fridge or freezer and usually shop on a day to day basis I think that stockpiling is unnecessary.
Ok, so you may have to eat a few odd combinations towards the end of such a period but most people are highly unlikely to starve to death during any reasonable length of self isolation.
Panic is what creates shortages and empty shelves. The world will not end if you don’t have your ‘favourite’ to hand. Necessity is the mother of invention! 😂14 -
just incase things do get crazy here and stores close down/deliveries are limited, i bought 3 mths worth of pet foods, litter and extra paper towels to care for 10 cats and our dog.. just don’t want to feel guilty if it turns out i was wrong not to stockpile...although i did buy fake shelf milk and extra coffee beans for me cause well i am not going to be maybe locked up in my home without at least my coffee!! other than meats or veggies, i buy in bulk already so we still have miscellaneous stuff we could eat for a couple weeks even if don’t like them much..4

Batteries for sure, wouldn't want to be bored if I am in isolation...... For the TV remote and my pc mouse you dirty minded people.....ok ok maybe for other stuff as well.
Seriously though, not stockpiling. We have stuff in the freezer and tins and dried food in the cupboards. Just going about my business as usual.

@manderson27 AAA batteries, you say? Check! lol Like @BarbaraHelen2013, I'm at a loss to figure out what else we'd need to get in our place since I was already a hoarder, apparently. My Amazon Subscribe & Save has (among other pantry and toiletry items) 2 packs of toilet paper so that we're never less than 50 rolls of 3-ply rolls at any given time. This whole crisis has made me rethink how much I buy.3

I actually saw toilet paper at target today and bought some even though I didn't technically need it, it was like a defense mechanism, since I live in a household of 5, my husband works from home and the 3 kids still at home are likely to be home constantly in the near future. It was the first toilet paper I'd seen in stores (Kroger, Publix, Costco) of late. Also, it was 20% off.8

CDC and WHO ARE saying to stock for a couple of weeks! I usually have a couple of months worth of shelf stable foods for me and the cat and backups of all my soap, paper goods, kitty litter. I just rotate so nothing is wasted. Last time I moved, I donated the extra to a food pantry.
I stocked up on some easy frozen dinners, meat, fruits and vegetables. For the produce I mostly chose the ones that last a while in the fridge like spaghetti squash, carrots, cauliflower, potatoes, onions, apples, cuties...
Pretty glad, because they reported an suspected case yesterday at my office and today I have a fever. Might not be corona, but even if it's flu I'd be staying home.17 -
No stockpiling anything because I live alone and already have enough food (canned, boxed and frozen and TP to last me for months because I always buy the stuff in advance in bulk.
However, I did buy an extra 2 qts of 70% isopropyl alcohol to use as a hand sanitizer and surface disinfectant (that I am carrying w/me in a small spray bottle along w/disposable gloves that I slready had on hand).
I was at Costco the other day to buy a few things that I needed (not hoard) and wanted to buy a pkg of paper towels because I was running low but they were entirely sold out of paoer towels (& TP).
No problem because I still have 5 rolls on hand that will last me at least 3-4 months and because I also use cotton bar rags (have a stack of st least 36 (3 dzn) under the sink which I can use if I run out of paper towels.
So, I'm already well prepared.7 -

Those people are real jerks, being so selfish and trying to make money in a time like this.

According to Dr. Sanjay Gupta, on the Steven Colbert show right now, some people do get diarrhea with COVID-19.2 -
I’m not hoarding anything. I remember the LA Riots back when I was a kid, where people were acting similar to how they are now by fighting over toilet paper and things. It is ridiculous. I hope we never have a major earthquake or anything but in case we do, i like to be prepared.
I always have tons of dried foods in my house, rice, beans, pasta, canned ones too. I also keep at least 10 gallons of water at any given time. I didn’t have to buy much recently other than my usual fresh stuff.
