My name is Cate (Caitlin, not Catherine if you’re interested 😊) she/her pronouns, I’m 34, married and I’m a first time mom to a beautiful 7 month old girl named Logan. Her dad and I met at Logan airport in Boston when we were 19, So to say I’m obsessed with her name would be an understatement 🥰 I’m a special education teacher in CA, originally from MA.
Years ago I tried MFP when I was living with my parents after college and I lost 30 lbs, getting me to about 155 (my lowest adult weight - go me!!) My weight has fluctuated over the years, but I’ve stayed around 185-220 for the last 6. The day I learned I was pregnant I weighed 208. I was super healthy during my pregnancy, and a week after I gave birth I was down to 185 (a VERY pleasant surprise!) This didn’t last very long, and then COVID hit, and I got up to 223. Not fun.
Hi!
Almost the same situation but my little guy is 15 months old. It completely sucks to know that I had essentially lost the weight gained during pregnancy only to have gained it back plus some in his first year of life. We're hoping to try for another one at some point, so I'm trying to shed some pounds before we go back down that path. If we're blessed enough to have another kid, I'm not gonna let history repeat itself! We got this!
I'm in the same situation as you guys too! I lost weight after my 8 month old was born and then put it back on in the months following her birth. I did the same with my 4 year old and never really lost it so feel doubly big at the moment!4 -
It sucks! But we can do it @suzr843

Good morning and happy Tuesday, everyone!
@charsuzy sorry to hear about your other account! Off to send you a friend request now.
@wanderinglight I love hearing about your swimming adventures. I'm not in a spot where I feel comfortable going to the beach to go swimming, because people are being silly, so I'm living vicariously through you!
@speyerj ahhh beach vacation. Sounds lovely. So does that coconut cream pie. congrats on logging through it!
@jm216 Doing well! It's got to be weird having kids move out, even just for school, I'm not looking forward to that part of my life at all. I love the kitty fist bump.
@ChrysalisCove You're crushing it!
@BrownSugar174 always believe the lows. You were hungry because you did. work. You worked it!
@jackiefrost1013 you can do it!
@DoNotTheHuman I get the feeling of wanting to eat everything when stressed. There's excellent support here in this group. Welcome!
@orangequilt believe the lows, you're crushing it!
@motivatedsister +1 over here. I always dipped low just after childbirth to gain it all back in the year following. You and @catehunter13 and @suzr84, and all of us- we can all do it. As for your reaching Onederland this month, it's okay if you don't. Weight loss can be slow and steady (and is actually better for your skin that way), but I'm rooting for you reaching your goal. It could happen, stay on track!
@changeforeverlj you're still doing well. Loss is loss.
@KeriA as someone with cat allergies living with a fuzzy overlord, I get it. I'm fine with mine now, but when I go to other people's houses, it gets hard to breathe after a while. Allergies are the worst.
AlRIGHT I always feel so motivated after I've done lots of tags.
I came here to say I saw 180.4 on the scale this morning! Very exciting! Looks like I'm modifying my goal this month to get into a new "decade"- the 70's! My weights around TOM AND ovulation being wonky is doing a number on my brain. I keep seeing what feels like around the same numbers, a lot of the time.
But when I look at my weight progress,
I know I'm doing okay. Even on months like June, where it felt like I stalled completely, I didn't, when you look at the overall trend.
Anyway. Have a good day and week, everyone!12 -
@CupcakeCrusoe That's awesome! Well done. It really does make a difference when you look at the whole picture. I really need to remind myself to do this.
For the last two mornings I've been waiting until 10am to have breakfast (although I do have coffee first thing - which has been 5am the last two mornings with the baby) and it has actually made me feel less hungry! I'm so far finding that my 10am craving for something sweet hasn't happened because I'm having breakfast and a bit of fruit instead. Hoping it continues!6 -

I do something similar. I'm up at 4 for work, and I drink coffee, then wait until 8 to eat breakfast, starting my IF period from 8am-4pm. It does really help with things, for me.4 -
I’ve decided to spread joy with happy memes this week. ❤️Jill

This steady downward trend is so inspiring! Well done!3 -
@CupcakeCrusoe - you are doing so well! And I just want to say that you are awesome. I love your energy and positivity. You have a knack for putting things in persepective.6
-
@CupcakeCrusoe Good job! Can't argue with that downward trend. And yea I won't be too sad if I don't hit ONEderland by the end of the month. But it's a good goal to push for! I know last time once I hit about 20lbs lost the weight loss slowed down, so hoping I still might be in that initial push where more comes off quicker before slowing down. And for me after those first 20lbs that was when I started seeing visible changes, or when stuff started fitting better! At that point that's enough motivation for me to push forward no matter what the number on the scale says.5

Did a lovely walk through a beach village close to where I live, I am loving our hikes and nature. So not everything has been bad in 2020!11 -
Today was our library day, and that's just as well because I am having some foot pain today. I've clearly got to dial it back a bit, because losing some weight doesn't magically cure all the foot issues. (sigh) On the other hand, I have a good dinner planned (Hunan chicken, not breaded) and if my feet settle down I'll make pizzas tonight. (If not, I will make them tomorrow.) Also, I have new books, the whole afternoon ahead of me, and a couch. I might even get a cat.
Or not. There are squirrels in the back yard, and those take a lot of watching.6 -
@CupcakeCrusoe Yay, on to the next decade. I just got into a new decade and now I am trying to get through it solidly so no variations back in the last one. A friend on mfp suggested a weight recording app on my phone to me when I was complaining about my weight variations and for once I took good advice. It helps me a lot even though I record on a spreadsheet. I am not as good at getting automatic charts and graphs in excel like my app does.
@changeforeverlj thanks for the lovely picture. I usually just walk around my neighborhood streets. A few intersections have views of Puget Sound and the Olympics but I would love to walk to a beach every day.
Well one Dr visit down this morning by phone since the video didn’t work. I was sleepy afterwards so I went back to bed but when I got up I did my 1st strength training for the week. I realized that I have already finished 2 books this week and it is only Tuesday. It is this pandemic. I guess it is like how others are knitting although I crocheted 2 mask cords this weekend. I have begun thinking about how to safely celebrate my daughter graduating from college in 2 weeks. When this pandemic is no longer a factor we will have a Chinese banquet for family in town.

Goal weight: 165

I hit goal at the end of July. Right now I’m focused on getting down or as close to 150lbs as I can. My baby turns 1 on 8/15 and I can’t believe I lost all of this weight this year. She’s baby #2 and I spent all of my time between babies and pregnancy well over 200lbs. I never thought I would be this small again. Below I will attach a photo that has my prepregnancy body(LEFT-early 2016) side by side to my current body(RIGHT). It’s crazy!! I’m so extremely proud of myself.

Here is a side by side with my before and after. I don’t even think this one truly does it justice because I gained at least another 15 or more lbs after that. I was in a size 18 and now I’m in a size 8💃🏽

Hi everyone. I was looking through the forums on MFP and saw your group. I'm looking for accountability and motivation and after reading some of your posts decided this is exactly what I need. I'm 62, 5'2" and was at 205.2lbs in June when I came back to MFP. In July I got down to 203.4. I weigh-in on Sunday's, last Sunday 8/9 I weighed in at 202.0lbs.
My first goal is to be under 200 which I hope to achieve by the end of August.
My weekly goals for this month:
Walk 2 miles a day at least 5 days a week
Lose 1-1.5 pounds a week
Be faithful logging all my meals in MFP
I'm having a hard time right now with cutting back on sweets! My sweet tooth is something I really need to work on!! I'm not following any certain kind of diet, just trying to be careful not to go over the 1200 calories a day that MFP has set for me. I'd like to eventually start a eating plan but in the past whenever I would try to follow a certain way of eating It always seemed to back fire on me and I'd always crave the foods I wasn't allowed to have. So...here I am, kind of in a limbo on what to do.

Thanks everyone! Weight's back up a little this morning, but I didn't do anything for that to happen, and ovulation's coming, so. Libra, as always, saving my sanity. I'm still coming in under that trendline.
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 a library day sounds lovely.
@changeforeverlj your walk looks amazing!
@KeriA it's definitely the pandemic. There's little excitement in staying at home, so we're all going back to the Jane Austen-esque pursuits: reading, crafting, looking forward to taking walks.
@rpbarkernc you've slayed it. You look phenomenal. Well done you!
@grandrory welcome! Everyone's different. Some people plan (small!) treats into their day to soothe a sweet tooth, some don't keep problem foods in the house. I've done both, depending on what I needed at any given time. When I find myself standing in the pantry eating another cookie after I'd said no more, it's time to stop bringing cookies in the house for a while, know what I mean? So if you find yourself sabotaging your progress, you could try just not bringing the things into your house. It's hard if you live with other people, but there are workarounds. I'm lucky that my husband and kid like sour gummy things, and I hate those, and prefer chocolate. So they'd never care if I didn't bring chocolate in the house anymore.6 -
Height: 5'7”
Starting weight: 296 (1/1/20)
Goal weight 160
8/5:255
8/12: 256
I've spent the last week bouncing between 255 and 257. I do this, so I'm not worried. At some point I'll get on the scale later in the month and suddenly see 252, I'll probably slide down around 248, and hold there another month.

Oof, I have some catching up to do on everyone's updates!
I'm still stuck around 201 lbs, which is fine, but annoying. My best friend/former roommate came over on Sunday who I haven't seen for at least a month. It was so much fun, but I ate waaay more than I had planned to. Brunch, cake, pizza, more cake... Definitely ate over maintenance. As a one-off thing it doesn't worry me, but after doing something similar a week or two ago, I'm just aware of how frequent this feels. Monday, I ended up eating leftovers. They were delicious, but I was left feeling ravenous. Carbs make me so hungry! I ended up blowing most of my daily calories before noon (mmm cake and pizza breakfast), so decided to just stick to maintenance so I could eat a decent and protein-focused dinner.
I'm going to really focus this week on pre-logging my calories as much as possible every day, and limiting snacking. I did okay with that yesterday - small breakfast, leftover smoked pork for lunch, carne asada for dinner, and enough room for a solid portion of ice cream for dessert. Today will also be a small breakfast, probably the last of the leftover pork for lunch, and maybe leftover carne asada quesadillas for dinner. That still leaves room for a snack or dessert, too. I'll figure out this hunger one way or another!4 -

Back to weigh-in Wednesdays, even though this makes it a short week:
49 years old; 5'6"
SW: 236.4 (9/8/19)
7/31: 191.6
8/7: 189.5
8/12: 188.3
My focus this month has been on stress management rather than a weight goal:- Mediation - I took my TM meditation class two weeks ago. I like the practice (although I have not hit transcendence) and they recommend 20 minutes, twice a day. Right now I am mediating about once a day. I need to make sure I prioritize these.
- Walking - I will start walking in the mornings, for at least 30 minutes. I need to start this. Hard one for some reason. I am also considering 10 minute walks three times a day to break up sitting at my desk.
- Bedtime - I will be in bed by 10 pm, so I can settle down and get decent sleep (and eliminate excuses for the morning walking). About 50/50. Sleep is better since they announced that school will begin virtually. But I need to get to bed earlier so that if I wake up and can't get back to sleep I will get enough rest.
- Journal - I will journal in some form to let go of the day and identify what I can and cannot control. I have been working on this one. I have a page where I listed all of my worries and then a new page for each one, the facts around it, what I can do to address it and facts I can take comfort in. We also started working on a COVID plan if my son, my husband or myself are exposed or test positive given my risk factors and that has been helpful.
- Intermittent fasting - I am doing better in the mornings, but I need to end my evening eating window and the treats that come during that time.
The past few weeks have been a roller coaster for me, with decisions about in-person school, blood test results (high lipoprotein (a)), and doctor recommendations that I be very careful about COVID exposure because of that.
I had an appointment with my doctor and she advised against in-person school. We had considered a plan where he would go in-person for a few weeks so he could be oriented and meet the teacher and then go virtual; we would either wear masks at home or I would move to my parents temporarily. Then, Monday evening, we were told the school will be virtual through the end of September. Since he will be oriented by then, our current plan is to have him attend virtually through the first quarter. I am not aware of other families taking this option and really hope he will not be the only one participating remotely and watching all of his classmates and teachers in the classroom. I have to remind myself that things are changing daily, starting in-person at the end of September is not guaranteed, and this is temporary. Missing a few months of in-person/weird school is not a big deal if he has healthy parents at the end of this.
I have also done some follow up on the lipoprotein(a) issue. I was supposed to have a heart scan this morning but the referral was not in the system and they sent me home. So hopefully I can get that test soon.
Our board approved our pay reductions were approved, so my compensation was cut 20 percent. I am happy to still have a job but I am questioning our original plan to hire a sitter to help my son with school so I could focus on work under these circumstances.
I am no longer on the free-for-all I was on for a few weeks, and that is helping. It is so nice to have the scale turn downward even though my calories are close to maintenance and I haven't done a great job with exercise/activity.4
