The official nightshift thread....

We don't have any locally but with a valley that is several hours long, the smoke from other fires can funnel up the valley. The wind shifted with a cold front and now we have the nice clean air coming out of Canada.0

I hope everyone is doing OK on the Western side of the continent. I have had to wear a particulates mask at work the past several nights so I can breathe properly. Ugh....getting kinda tired of masks.....0

Finally downloaded some of the eagle release pictures from my phone. I have to edit the video clip yet as it is quite shaky (she moves so fast) and too long with her as a spot in the distance once she flew off. That will come later, when I have nothing better to do (lol.)
The couple who brought her back home from the O.W.L. Raptor Rehab Facility 600 km away.
Fellow on the left in khaki is the regular volunteer who was able to net and cage her at rescue.
I looked a little wrecked in this photo...had been dealing with sciatica for several days, but I couldn't miss this.
You can see her in the cage just before release.
A quick jump out... (local newspaper photographer in background)
Off she flies toward one of the tall cottonwoods on the foreshore.

I always love when these birds can be released back into the wild. The rehab group we have here got in trouble for keeping too many that should have been euthanized or released. The purpose of a rehab group shouldn't be to have pets but to get them back in the wild. If they can't, living in a cage for the rest of their life doesn't seem fair to the bird.0

It’s cold and flu season now. It’s hard to tell when someone shows up with just a cold or if it’s Covid.0
-
Freezing temps again here. Had to wait for my defrosters to clear my windshield this morning. Didn't think about the ice scraper in my door until after the truck was warmed up.0
-
Either way....they shouldn't be showing up at all.0
-
Yeah! It's cold and flu season!0

Nothing freezing happening here yet. Lowest it's been is 5C but we've been having unseasonably warm and dry temps these days 23-25C. Ground fog early in the AM when I get off work. I have to squeegee off my vehicle windows so I see on my way home. Takes too long to defog on the outside electronically.0

Finally back on my bike. It was nice riding in to work tonight. Short ride at a very easy pace but it was nice to get the legs spinning again.1
-
First 20 mile day since I got back on the bike. I feels good and bad at the same time.0

"As he limps in the door after work."0

It's just getting loosened up again. Too many days doing nothing. Good for recovery but not so good for keeping muscles loose. Just finished another 17 miles and it felt much better.1
-
I went to acupuncture yesterday afternoon to help release my really tight muscles that refuse to loosen when stretched. Also my TMJoint in jaw is killing me so we worked on that. Tonight I felt like I'd run a marathon and swam the Channel.0

Sometimes the help, hurts. Sometimes when I use a roller on my IT bands, it really hurts. I don't know how people use tennis balls to loosen IT bands.0
-
Ugh! IT bands and R piriformis have always been tough for me even though I've been an exercise specialist and a physio rehab assistant for decades. I can't even use a roller for my IT bands -too painful.0
-
The weather is at the funny point where I'm dressed for 75 degrees going to work but I'm packing all kinds of clothes for 35 degrees when I come home at 8 AM.0
-
28 degrees riding this morning. The cold wasn't the problem but the wind went right through my thermal pants.0
-
Do you have windproof pants, @sufferlandrian? It's been pretty chilly here too now. Snow on the tops of the hills around us, friends in the higher elevations around town had some fall while we had cold rain down in the valley. Good thing my local tire shop sends me a reminder text to make my tire changeover appointment. They text in mid Sept, since legally we need to have proper winter tires on by Oct 1 - we can get a big fine if we are driving on the major highways in 'all seasons' after that. The RCMP don't bother you if you are just tootling around town locally though....until we get actual snow in the valley bottoms.0
