My current NSV is that my resting heart rate has dropped under 80 for the first time in years. My NP is very pleased with this, as well.20

I've logged 60days today, never got to that number before. Also, joined a gym today and started C25K 😊23

I am finally comfortably in the size 16 jeans! and they are not 16W, either. These are straight 16s. No lying down to zip them or anything like that.
What's really exciting is that my goal size, size 12, is definitely now within sight. I may not get there by Christmas, but I will get there.
Today I bought a second pair of size 14 jeans so I have them in the drawer when I get to them, and as soon as I've run the laundry I'll box up the 16W's for when my girlfriend gets small enough to wear them.18 -
I twisted my knee on Sunday and instead of either pushing through with my regular schedule and doing more damage or just saying screw it and become sedentary for who-knows-how-long I created a plan B:
- get up at the same time and do a (very) reduced yoga practice to stay with the habit
- Schedule a morning walk with a friend, who as it happens needs a push to get his sleeping schedule under control and appreciates getting up and out before work.
- Bought the annual membership at the pool by my house and been swimming twice already. I need to go 37 times to break even and the annual membership means I won’t hesitate to do shorter workouts more often instead of “getting my moneys worth” at each visit.
I’m quite proud.26 -
I'm starting to see stretch marks on the bottom half of my stomach that I could never see before because the rest of my stomach was too big!19

This is a measuring victory, so sort of scale I suppose, but my waist is now less than half my height (88cm waist: 180cm height). I've been reading that this is a good measure of health and fitness, so this is really pleasing.
I didn't know that but you can bet I am adding it to my goals. Until now I avoided the tape measure so I wouldn't get depressed but I suspect I'm about 40 inches around the middle (can't call that a waist). Although I dread it, I am headed to my closet right now to measure so I have a baseline to work from. I'm 5'7" so I need to achieve a 33.5 inch waist. OMG I WILL BE A MOVIE STAR OR MODEL OR SOMETHING.19 -

I was looking at jeans today and a 33.5 waist puts you into a size 12 in that brand, which is my goal size at 5'7". That was the size my mom was for most of my childhood and young adulthood, so it's probably a sensible size for me to aim for. Does thinking, "To get my waist half my height I need to wear a 12," help any? It helps me because I have just fit into a straight 16 comfortably.5 -
My perception of myself has changed.
On account of my personality as a visionary/dreamer I have often felt like a big giant quitter. I am a chronic starter of creative endeavors and because I start and dream about way more than is realistic to accomplish I have a long list of unrealized ideas and a rather short list of truly accomplished imaginings.
Really, it’s more about the sheer volume of creative ideas I have compared to what’s humanly possible to achieve. If the difference between the two were less I don’t think I would have fallen into the faulty belief that I quit things when it gets hard.
Guess what’s hard? Rewriting your default behavior. Taking the time to change your hardwired habits and not giving up and quitting even when it seems like you’re going nowhere. I hit a very small (but huge to me) lbs lost goal this week. It’s working. I’ve been after habit change since before my 1st pregnancy. 8 years. 6 of which I was pregnant or nursing so instead of focusing on weight loss I focused on habit change so that when I was finally done with that stage of life (presently) my everyday habits would be ones that supported realistic and achievable weight loss for a 30 something female, mother of 3, who homeschools and likes working out at home.
I was sharing my lbs lost achievement with some friends this week and suddenly it hit me. I am absolutely not a quitter. Not one stinkin’ bit. I fought hard for this. Even and especially this last year after weaning my 3rd baby. I assumed that the weight would come off easier but it took so long for things to balance out. I spent a lot of time hemming and hawing over the reality that I was in recomp, but that I was still 30lbs over goal on the scale. I didn’t want to be a part of diet cultures unrealistic calorie recommendations but I also knew I wasn’t seeing scale results in a way that meant I was hitting the right calorie goals. I know that lasting weight loss is slow and steady but I didn’t think that 5lbs every 6months was even considered progress let alone “successful”. But then again, measurements were changing. It was hard. But I kept at it. The time was gonna pass anyway, so I kept at it and now, here I am! And the coolest thing is, I don’t see myself as a quitter anymore. I’m not a quitter. I fought for this tooth and nail and I wanted to quit so badly when it seemed like my efforts weren’t producing results but I kept going and tweaking things and figuring out the right numbers for me.
I don’t really have the words to express how profound it is to have altered the way I perceive myself. It’s like a piece of my identity has changed and that seems incredibly significant.34 -

Way to go! Staying MENTALLY flexible is definitely worth celebrating big time 🥳🥳🥳

I got up at my usual time to hit the gym before a long weekend away. Previous me would just say well the weekends stuffed so never mind. 😊13

This could potentially be a huge victory. Due to keeping my calories very low I've only been able to afford dairy a few occasions. I've suffered IBS symptoms on each of those occasions but felt really well in myself the rest of the time. Best of all I've been eating the foods I normally think are the trigger (but that I normally eat at the same time as dairy) . So I know they are safe! That's the other bonus of anally logging all my food. Going to completely eliminate dairy and see how I get on with. It would be amazing if it was simply a matter of eliminating dairy.16

✊...putting on a pair of training pants that usually put up a fight by the time I get them up to my thighs..and which keep pulling down due to the excess weight.....this morning they went straight up without the hint of resistance....and are now coming down due to being loose.....good job there's a tie belt in the waist......this is my FIRST noticeable difference in how something fits me from when I tried them on a few weeks ago......I can easily see these going into the charity box by the time I've reached my goal weight...as I'm still a long way off that .....chuffed to say the least 😁..19

I’ve lost my mojo the last few months, phoning in “workouts” and eating all the things. Rarely seeing others doesn’t help my usual desire to look good. Also, wearing workout leggings 24/7 helps nothing.
I can’t say mojo is back, but I’m remembering the deeper why of why I (usually) work out and eat well—to offer an active, interesting childhood to my kids, which I didn’t get to fully experience as a chubby, inactive child of obese parents.
So this week I took the kids zip lining (even managed the upside down no-hands move!), horseback riding, alpine sliding, ice skating, hiking, through a high ropes course, and on a hilly run. Even dragged myself out for a few early morning walks. Working out now in the empty hotel gym before I take my oldest through another ropes course this morning, then getting ready to cheer him on for state cross country championships.
So NSV: having a pretty active family vacation, and starting over myself.28 -

I actually have never heard this!!! It helps me immensely. It looks like based on that I should end up around a size 16 ish for my 5'10 height. Well, based on LL Bean's size charts.3 -
My most recent NSV is walking over 10K steps a day. I used to barely get 2K in!!!!!15

Just got a "memory" notification this morning about my trip to NY last year. These face gains!
Oct 2019 - 290lbs
Oct 2020 - 237lbs

I logged my food for my first meal of the day, took my time eating it and ended up not finishing all of it because I was satisfied. In the past I would have kept eating no matter how uncomfortable it made me.21

Ive lost 35 pounds so far. My underwear is looser. I'm happier.30

I now routinely only eat half the homemade pizza without even thinking about it. Any more is just too much food.
I remember maybe 6 months ago I posted a NSV the first time I ate half. it feels like huge progress in mindset/eating habits/portion awareness to have it be a natural behaviour now 🍕27 -
I started my first ever purposeful recomp yesterday afternoon. Today is my first full day of eating an inordinate amount of protein...and hitting target!
Why an NSV? This is essentially a month ahead of my orginal "schedule" (which was calculated based on body fat percentage). But, really, how big of a difference is another 1.5% body fat reduction gonna make?
Get 'er done NOW.
That's from the NEW MaltedTea, who - as of earlier this week - doesn't procrastinate 😉25 -
Last night, after already surpassing my calories for the day, I poured a GIANT bowl of stress cereal. 1200 calories, at least. As I was walking to the fridge for milk, I accidentally dropped the bowl and broke it.
The time I spent cleaning up gave me pause to reconsider my impending binge. And by dropping that bowl, I also rid myself of the last of the stress cereal AND my last large cereal bowl (Don’t worry, I still have plenty of smaller bowls).39 -
I've just realised that I don't really snack outside of meals and I don't crave chocolate so much anymore.
I'm now eating three meals a day, and I get my chocolate fix from the occasional protein bar. When I first started, I was always snacking and eating lots of chocolate bars and cake. I'm not denying myself anything (I do CICO, so if it fits into my calories, whatever it is, I'll eat it) but my cravings have gone down.20 -
We have a second refrigerator in the garage, and that's useful as the freezer compartment is mostly empty and therefore gets used for doing things like freezing trays of things. The door also has the stash of mini candy bars, partly because they're frozen and tasty that way, and partly because they're inconvenient if kept there.
Yesterday I made pizzas for us to have at some point when I don't want to cook because I hurt too much. (I have chronic pain issues; this day WILL come.) They need to freeze flat before I transfer them to the main freezer, because the thin crust just doesn't support itself well. And yes, both times I put the pizzas in I looked at those frozen candy bars. And both times I shut the door and walked away.30 -
I went horseback riding for 2 hours yesterday. The first NSV is that I did it! A friend gave me a gift certificate for my birthday 4.5 years ago and because of some health reasons and some procrastination, I never went.
The second NSV...although I was stiff getting off the horse yesterday, as I walked around, I loosened up. And I am not sore this morning, I am walking normally. Well, except for the part of a woman’s body that gets sore after too much time on a bicycle seat. 😝😂
I am confident that these NSV’s are due to my 45 lb weight loss and daily exercise. My muscles aren’t sore because I use them. Yeah me!24 -
I'm drinking a lot more water than I used to, and I gravitate more to water than to snacking
18 -
My NSV... I fell off the logging wagon in July when I quit my job... I got back to logging this October... and discovered that other than a little bit of water weight, I had naturally maintained my weight, I wasn't redoing any weight loss.28
-
I got into crow pose and managed to hold!29
-
I listened to my body. Was feeling quite sluggish and tired after a grueling leg workout this morning. Had a snack and feel so much better!16
-
Hitting a bench PR of 150
23 -
Shorts that I couldn't wear last year because they were too tight are a little loose now.14
