Been waking up here early too! I do fall asleep easily. Sometimes it is leg cramps that wake me up. Fortunately not the last couple of nights. I did get back to sleep after waking at 4.
We are getting colder now. We more than likely will have our first freeze in a day or two. Picked all the cherry tomatoes that have a chance to ripen and several flowers. There are plants I bring in to winter inside. It was a busy day yesterday because of this. I was so glad had friend over to Son's yesterday. He has a great deck we could eat at and social distance. It was a sunny beautiful fall day. The fall colors were/are spectacular this year. Strong winds yesterday and next couple so will not last long.3 -

Hello! I am just joining this group/thread. You gals sound like a fun group. I turn 60 in a few weeks, am a teacher of 30 years, originally from Hollywood, CA (17 yrs), Santa Barbara, CA (40 yrs) and now Southern Utah these past 3 years. I still find it hard to say I am a Utahan since I still think of myself as a Santa Barbara gal. I dearly miss my morning beach walks! I miss the colors green and blue! (of course, with the fires, it's more gray and taupe--sad!) I just started (July 1) to take serious control of my health (again...but committed to a forever lifestyle change now!!) using my Fitness Pal and FitBit. I am down 28 lbs since July 1 and have 50 more to go to reach a good weight for me. (Ideal weight numbers always made my ribs stick out. I just want to wear pants with a button and zipper without a big muffintop!..I was raised with the hold your stomach in mantra, before it was okay to let it all hang out...still can't do it!!) I got a kick out of your jeans talk!! I am trying to work to fine-tune the macros, but all the responses out there are from 20-something people, whose answers seem a little unrealistic for me. I am to stay under 40% carbs, am 5ft2in and have been doing 1200 cal./day and walking 10,000+ steps/day just at work (okay, that includes 6-7 times running to the bathroom on the other side of school between classes at my age!) plus another 3,000+ step walk after dinner. Does anyone have some idea of what to put my macros at? I am currently losing about 1 lb/wk at <40% net carbs, 30% protein and 30% fats. Does this sound about right or do I need to adjust the protein and fat?

Margaret . This year I decided I didn’t want so many plants inside for the winter.
We have had a 5’x5’ mini-greenhouse in a box in the garage for a couple of years that we have never used, so I put it together yesterday on our deck. I’m so excited. I’m going to look for insulation for the floor that is mildew resistant and can be walked on. Looking into the best way to heat it if needed. I want to do everything on the cheap if possible. I think I remember that others here have greenhouses, maybe Lanette? . Open to suggestions.

Got cast removed this morning very stiff and strange, lots of disgusting dry skin. Physio showed me exercises and will refer me for more sessions. Need to exercise every hour (boy it hurts) am determined to do them as I don’t want to be permanently disabled. Haven’t tried knitting yet, maybe in a couple of days. Nice to hear from Mary

Welcome Linnie! I don’t worry about macros, micros, or anything much, just CICO. I do eat a lot of vegetables. Plenty of protein. Fruit with muesli for breakfast. Stewed fruit for dessert. Not many simple carbs. Lots of fish. Olive oil. Glass of wine.
My CO is very good, so I don't have to starve myself. Your walking about sounds excellent.
1 lb a week is sustainable and healthy. Good job.

Linnie Welcome. This is a great place for support and encouragement. I started with the macros that MFP used automatically but have adjusted a bit to raise protein and fiber after some things I read. I can't explain why I made the changes. For me, consistency is important as well as making sure my foods are calorie dense so I get the most nutrition for the fewest calories. I love to walk and either walk with a friend or with headphones so I can listen to podcasts or music or an audio book. I have lived near the coast almost all my life so I understand how you feel about Utah.

Linnie Yes, the young gals are great and encouraging, but age has us dealing with issues they cannot relate with .... yet! It sounds like you are on the right track. I can identify with you missing the Pacific beach walks. In the past, I spent a lot of time in southeast Utah. There is a lot of beauty there but certainly doesn't replace the Pacific. If you are losing weight and/or size and that is your goal, then you are on the right track. Trimming that muffin top is an ongoing battle even for ones like me that are trying to gain a few lbs but don't want it on my belly. I focus the majority of my workout on ab exercises and do lots of walking with abs tight and exaggerated hip swings. A hula hoop workout can really help as does twisting to Chubby Checkers. Is there any way to do it for just this site? Other senior places I participate in have default larger print. The main problem I have is if it is a long post without paragraphs, spacing, or names in bold. Maybe I should enable my zoom on my finger pad again and learn to control my hands better.
Missing posters I too wonder why some just disappear without a trace. Are they sick, deceased, blind, got bored, had better things to do, banned, old man holding them hostage, account hijacked, feeling unappreciated, or just got their panties in an excruciating twist? One of my friends wrote instructions with over 100 sites she frequents with login name and password so her husband could notify others if she became unable to post. Great idea but I doubt he will do it. He will probably give it to me.

Tracey: We have a Trhift Store in town, and they are awesome. Our Thirft Store is part of the workings of our local senior center. The Senior Center provides meals on wheels to housebound seniors in our community. Those who can afford to pay, do so and those who can’t afford to pay get their meal at a reduced fee or free. The Thrift Store is not in the Senior Center building. It is a storefront on the road to the old city center. I think it is a great asset to the community. :flowerforyou:

Hello everyone.
Work continues to be busy, busy, busy, which is a good thing. I hope things continue on this trend as employment is front and center for many of us. I certainly do not want to find myself where I was during the housing crisis. Laid off and unemployed for a little over a year!
While eating dinner on Sunday my lower right rear molar decided it was going to break. It was one with a very old silver filling in it. I hoped it could be repaired, but felt it might need a cap. I visited my periodontist yesterday and even though the break was a little below the gum line he felt there was enough healthy tooth and was able to repair it. Thank goodness – total savings $1k. They did tell me they normally see about 10 broken teeth a year. This year they have had over 40!
Barbara – I can eat chocolate hummus all by itself. It’s delicious on fruit too.
Heather – I love the color of your living room. Great news the loo was repaired!
KJ – I am so happy you had a nice weekend with the grands and your daughter. It sounds like you had a nice time and were able to soak up hugs. I still want to be one of your kids when I grow up!

Thanksgiving – My friends and I are rethinking having a Thanksgiving holiday. This is due primarily to the latest news showing even the smallest of gatherings with those outside of your immediate household are causing the second wave. Since two of those who would be coming have pre-existing conditions, we are putting things on hold for right now. A decision will be made the first week of November.
I am very much like Barbie and Flea – Creature comforts should never be taken for granted. I am so grateful for the hot shower I take every morning. So very grateful I could go to a dentist and have my tooth repaired. There are so many who live without just because of the place they were born.
I am really surprised people have to pay for a covid-test anywhere in the US. The states were provided with money for free testing. We have pop up sites all over the state if one needs or wants a test.

Bananas – So sorry to hear about your frustrations at work. I feel many institutions/employers/etc. are using this period in time to reduce their salary pay outs. They are doing it in underhanded ways so people leave versus being laid off because laying off someone would require them to pay out money.
Katla – Musical instruments – especially band with all that brass – are expensive. I would check out some local music stores and buy a used one. Probably a heck of a lot cheaper than $50/month. If she doesn’t enjoy it you can sell back to the store.
Beth – Sorry to hear about husband’s tooth. Not fun at all!

Michele--I am the only one that uses the phone while I am here. But when I first get to work I wipe everything down with sani-clean wipes. Now we all are wearing masks in here also.
KJ--I love the egg carton spaceship. Thanks for sharing the pictures of the boys. They are so cute and seem to be so happy.
Katla--That rent does seem pretty high. I know when our DGD wanted to play the violin, it was like $90 for the whole school year.

We have planted our tulips! They are in a large pot directly outside our windows in the dining room. I've balanced it on top of another pot so that we will be able to enjoy the flowers through the window. We worried about the squirrels digging them up, as they ate all the crocus bulbs in our last house, so I've put the bbq grill over it for now. They are only ordinary tulips,but will be colourful and, most importantly, require no looking after. I have retired from gardening.
Then I murdered my basil plant that has been sitting on my kitchen windowsill for around a year. I felt terrible about it, as it had become a friend, but it was past its best. Before it went in the bin I chopped it up and made 3 pots of pesto. One for tonight and 2 to freeze.
Now to buy a new one.

Allergies still acting up. Meds work so I know that’s what it is. I take Claritin-D for them. Only thing that works for me. Otherwise, doing good overall. Still working on stopping drinking which will solve my stubborn plateau.
Wicket bounced back from tooth extraction better than o thought! Vet said she wouldn’t eat last night, but.... first thing she did when she got home is clean the food bowl of what Brownie left! Lol. She’s still drowsy from meds today but no more tooth pain so getting back to normal.

Okie Wow! 90 in the Hill Country! That seems high for the middle of Oct. As a child, I was there one fall staying with relatives, and remember it being cool and picking up pecans which was fun, but the shelling wasn't.
Michele The sign shape and color test related to their meaning in our area is mainly for the benefit of non-English speakers. We even have a stop sign without any words, just flashing red lights around its perimeter.
M in Oz Congrats on having a graduation ceremony, that is a big deal with all the time and work it took to get that Masters.
Terri Great you are getting a dishwasher. It is a wonderful appliance especially in these times when making sure our eating utensils and dishes are virus and bacteria-free. Even if I rinse dishes, I like to put them in the dishwasher for a final scalding. I use little soap and never that drying stuff that leaves a chemical film on them.
Michele Sorry you cannot sleep. If I don't get at least 7 hours, I get offers to be employed as a junkyard dog. Social distancing is a given and many requests I am gagged under my mask. Are you a beginning bowler?
Katla Glad the DH is taking over the GD instrument search. Best she finds a good local source as learning an instrument that is hard to play or has issues is really discouraging. I love stories of kids taking up musical instruments. Yes, music stores have all but disappeared as they cannot compete with online prices because of overhead especially this year. I have been playing an instrument since I was 5 and can't imagine being without one.
