I've made sausage rolls and mini tourtiere turnovers. These can easily be frozen and shared with my mom and friends. Next up are sugar cookies and I have to make a stew at some point.

    So ~is~ your family nuts?
    .
How did the caregiver get his steak cooked? Was it the right "cooked?"

    <long story -- TLDR warning>
I spent about 30 years not eating meat. I eat some now; not a whole lot, but some. Back when I wasn't eating it, there was one time I was visiting my mom's family. She was making filet on the grill. I knew it would make her happy if I ate some even though it usually wasn't on my menu.

When the steaks came off the grill, everybody was served. The steak was cooked perfectly. On the rare side of medium rare. Even though they were filets, my mom marinated them for at least a day. I guess that at least means they had more flavor. Not meat flavor, but flavor. She's told me she doesn't actually like the taste of meat.

Anyway, I was surprised when everyone except me put their steak back on the grill for a while to get more well done. I found it odd that the only person who was enjoying the meatiness of fresh, tasty meat was the person who didn't really eat it.

    </TLDR warning>

I hope it was PERFECT, no matter how well done you like it.

So which steak didja chomp on?

I sadly cooked his well done and they were nice steaks from the nice butcher. It broke my heart but since he was one of the ones who looked after my dad as he was dying he got what he asked for.

I always have the filet. I don't like fatty cuts as they usually upset my stomach. It was perfectly rare with an beautifully sear on the outside. I salt steaks before cooking which supposedly makes them beefier tasting and love cooking them in cast iron

I always put either salt an black pepper or lemon pepper seasoning on both sides and let the steak sit out an hour before lighting the coals. That's all the "extra" flavor it needs. If the weather doesn't support charcoal, I use cast iron. Alas - my old house has no vent hood, so I prefer not to do that. I would love to try a sous vide. I'd also like to try smoking a steak. For THAT I would use a temperature probe or two and smoke it until it was just the right temperature.

I got more mushrooms today before the big freeze we have coming the next day or so.

Morning everyone! Agreed that I'm glad these are up again, I was having withdrawls...haha. Hope everyone has something relaxing planned for today :) I'm enjoying my tea, then I'm going to get my crockpot going and curl up with a book while I wait for the rest of the house to wake up.

    OK...I sound 80 years old rather than 40 something...hmmm.

Haha. I'm always the first up waiting for everyone else while obsessively watching the news.

What's going in the crock pot

One small thing today, nice photo. I gazed at it for a few. The water does look peaceful. Thank you for sharing.
At my age, I feel like I need some hand holding. Reassurance. I hate it. Normally such a proud person. I now find myself. Stuck in the past. Dwelling on the weight I have to lose and the insecurities it has brought about. Ugh....
Hopefully, this group can offer some insight.

    BordeauxBee. Hello Group☺️

Happy Sunday all, hope it's going well for you. I like Sundays and I especially like this one, as we have a Bank Holiday here tomorrow, so it's kinda Saturday still.

Went for a mini hike in the mountains this morning, the 12 year old came along and was particularly whingy, so one hour was the max we could stretch it to. Then we went for a shop for healthy food, as the same whingy one was complaining she wants to be more healthy but I'm not strict enough on her healthy eating :D . Which is true I guess, I never force the childer to eat vegetables, I just don't think that would work, sure I can't shove it in her mouth.
Roast dinner tonight (chicken, roast potatoes and carrots, corn on the cob) so at least she'll eat that.

@forestfreek what are you reading? I always have my kindle at an arm's length, and can't sleep unless I've read a few pages first at least. Currently reading The poison tree by Erin Kelly.

Right now I’m reading Revival by Stephen King. So far, so good.

@OneSmallThingToday what a gorgeous view, i'd blow off chores for that as well. @LunaTheFatCat so jealous that you have a good place to hike. It's only 23 degrees here this morning and everything is icy, so not so much an option here today anyway!!

Our weather is finally catching up to yours, Shan. It’s way colder here than it was a few days ago🥶

And now I'm hiding out inside while the neighbours use our shared driveway for a garage sale. I don't want to have to be exposed to strangers. It's enough hubs invited friends for a socially distanced backyard hang out

I’m so lucky, this is just a few miles from home, it’s a bike/hike trail right along the Hudson River. They’re building a new pedestrian lane on the closest overpass, so as soon as they open that up, I’ll probably do most of my walking On the trail, since I can get there without hopping in the car 😁

@northviewvintage That sounds just like my father. He goes to the mirror and says, The ol'kid is lookin' pretty good today! The ol'kid is in good voice today! Meaning quality of tone. Like it. Mac Davis died 9-29-20 RIP

Ali's food is out of this world.

🤗 You are such a positive, sweet and kind influence on the forums.. we are lucky to have you.
Post anything you wish lovely 🙂

Good morning Middle-agers.. well 2 days of rain here and I gotta say I'm totally enjoying it, it had been so long since we'd had some good rain. I swear my tomatoes, zucchinis and capsicum plants have tripled in size over the weekend.
I think a snuggle in a warm blanket on the lounge, watch a good movie kind of day.
I hope you all have a great day 🙂

@forestfreek so I follow lots of cooking and baking thing on Instagram so I always want to try what I see. One was caramel corn this morning but there's been a trend to tie string around a loaf of bread before it rises so it ends up looking like a pumpkin. Then you shove in a cinnamon stick "stem". I'm kinda happy with how this turned out 84szuj6o1ly4.jpg

    That looks totally amazing!!!!!!!
