Very interesting. It would be awesome if the new owner actually was interested in investing some resources in MFP.9

Here is the email I received today.

To our MyFitnessPal community,
As part of an ongoing strategic transformation, Under Armour announced plans today to sell MyFitnessPal to Francisco Partners, a leading global private equity firm that specializes in investments in technology and technology-enabled businesses.
This transaction, which is expected to close by the end of 2020, will enable MyFitnessPal to realize its full potential as the world’s premier food tracking and nutrition app. Through Francisco Partners’ technology expertise and wide network of resources, MyFitnessPal will be empowered to create more innovative features and tools to help you reach your health and fitness goals, and be better enabled to personalize and customize content just for you.

@middlehaitch Thanks for sharing the email! (I checked but I didn't receive one).

This is how Francisco Partners (a private equity firm that focuses on tech companies) describes their general approach on their website.
"We provide transformational capital to technology companies facing strategic or operational inflection points."
I recognize a few of the companies they've invested in, but don't know enough about them to have an opinion on what Francisco Partners did with them once they acquired them. The ones I recognized actually sell products and services, rather than selling users' eyeballs, but it's possible some or many of the ones I don't recognize are more in the MFP eyeball-selling model.
It will be interesting to see what they do.2 -
Wonder what they'll do with the forum. You think they'll streamline it down to just the bare bones? That would be sad.6
-
YES, when ever a big fish swallows a small fish the development comes to a halt, they just want to maximize profits and R&D is non existent2

Just chit/chat. Yeppers1 -
@L1zardQueen They're getting rid of chitchat or only keeping chitchat? You're kidding me, yes?
Wonder if they'll conduct a survey. I bet you have some ideas. Heckatoot, we all do.1 -
@muszyngr Did you hear that? Your fave stays. Only chitchat and absolutely no adult conversations ever again. I know how much you like them but they're outta here.2
-
Egads, don't take chitchat away. I'd have to go in search of a new home.2
-
OH NO! Don't take fun and games away either! Wherever will I find a forum with nothing but "Does/will/how/would.... the person above?" and "Add a word/drop a word" on page after page after page after page....3
-
Although the article says it's 200 million users, I have trouble believing it's that high. That's probably the number of people who ever signed up, some people would have multiple email addresses over the years. Plus the inevitable sign up after Christmas and stop using it after a few weeks.3

As long as they don't let the people who write MFP's mostly-silly blog posts start iron-hand moderating the forums, we'll be fine.
(Joking. Sort of.)
I'll return us to the general trend of this thread: Speculate => assume => catastrophize => panic => complain about the imagined but believed-true speculations. 🤣7 -

I personally can't wait to complain about our new overlords and how they've destroyed everything.11 -

Interesting:
"Under Armour... bought MyFitnessPal for $475M and five years later is reportedly selling it for $345M"1 -

Well, maybe they just were successful at "weight" loss????
You do realize that WE are the product.3 -

We don't need no stinkin' badges.
Just give us our chitchat!1 -

The only ones who are the product are the ones who pay for premium. I have and always will continue to use the free version. If the new owners charge for everything, then I’m OUT!1 -
You are still the product even if you don't pay a dime. Your data is harvested. If you don't pay for premium, access to your eyes for advertisements is also a product. TANSTAFL.11

Is it too early to blame Francisco for read threads remaining bolded instead of becoming unbolded to let you know they've been read?
(I logged out cleared cache, tried another browser, and still have this issue.)3 -

I noticed this change today, too. Now the read threads remain bolded (like you said) but they have a slightly different shade of blue. So slight it took me a bit to notice it. This change makes it harder to identify read threads, in my opinion, so I'm not sure what the purpose is.0 -

Ok, I can see the differences now, but only with GREAT difficulty. They broke something that was working

Looks like it has already made some changes “premium” has at least 2 new features that free doesn’t.0

Since the article says "The transaction is expected to be completed at the end of the fourth quarter of 2020.", I doubt Francisco had anything to do with recent new feature sets.
Is there something new since Net Carbs Mode (August) and Workout Plans (July)? I haven't been paying attention.2 -
Net carbs and take a picture of your food to log it.1

Oh, man - thanks, hadn't noticed. I gotta try that one. Given what I eat, it could be hilarious.1 -

Given the colossal mismatches from simply importing recipes, the "take a picture of your food to log it" feature should be hilarious.4
