Thank you2 -
@Zondeare
Nothing lame about making progress! I'm happy to hear that you're able to do ANYTHING upper-body! And congrats on fighting through not wanting to run... I have a similar experience just about every time I push myself to exercise.
The best thing about encouraging you is it REALLY helps me with my own motivation (regarding exercise in particular).
I'm glad to hear that I've come across in a positive way; there's a lot of "paying it forward" in this group, and I would be devastated to be anything less than a positive influence for all my friends here (when I'm able to post, that is).3 -

Age: 39
Height: 5’ 3”
SW: 163
CW: 139.6
GW: 125
GW for this round: 138
Round 126 (1): 156 to 153.2 (-2.8 lbs)
Round 127 (2): 153.2 to 150.4 (-2.8 lbs)
Round 128 (3): 150.4 to 148.0 (-2.4 lbs)
Round 129 (4): 148.0 to 146.0 (-2.0 lbs)
Round 130 (5): 146.0 to 144.4 (-1.6 lbs)
Round 131 (6): 144.4 to 139.6 (-4.8 lbs)
Goals for this round:
- Lose 1.5 lbs
- Run/walk my evening walk with the dog to work up to a 5K by Thanksgiving
- Start a body weight strength training program 3x a week
11/13 - 140.2 - Slight increase from the end of last round, but not surprising given my recent drops. Feeling very tired today too, so I cut my morning workout down.
Turkey Trot 5K - I tried to run the 1.6 mile route last night, but the doggie didn’t want to come with me! She was more interested in sniffing and I had to cajole her the whole way. This might require a new plan. 😂
11/14 - 140.4 - One of the things I love about this group (on top of the awesome support and accountability) is having all these notes for reference. I had a super hungry day yesterday - ate all my planned calories, within my usual macros and was still so hungry. So I looked back at my notes from previous rounds - and the same thing happened almost exactly a month ago right before my TOM. That let me relax about it, and warned me that my weight probably was going to hold today and go up for the next few days. But it’s just hormones/water retention and it will be back down again soon.
Turkey Trot 5K - 1.5 mile walk last night. Will try to do a 1.5 mile walk with the dog tonight, then drop her off and run the route a second time.
11/15 - 140.8 - The scale is what it is this morning. Was high on calories yesterday (1,800 instead of 1,600) - just kept snacking - but I did get two good workouts in so I feel less guilty about it. Thought I’d take it easy today, but then DH proposed taking the kids on a hike - so I got in a 3 mile hike (which involved either pushing a 30 lb toddler in a stroller, controlling a 50+ lb dog who did NOT want to heel, or carrying said 30 lb toddler when he refused to go back in the stroller after he got the taste of freedom.) So much for a rest day!
Turkey Trot 5K - Did 2.57 miles last night - walked the first 1.57 with the dog, then ran another mile. Just wasn’t quite feeling up to doing the full 1.57 running, but I’ll get there.
11/16 - 141.4 - Ok, the scale can go back down any time now. 😣 Even knowing the “why” doesn’t make it easy to see that number in the morning. Not feeling great today so I only did about 45 minutes of cardio this morning. Will have to try and do the strength exercises throughout the day.
Turkey Trot 5K - Walked 1.57 miles yesterday.
11/17 - 140.6 - Ok, right direction! Let’s just keep that up. Focusing now on my daughter’s birthday on Friday - she’s been so excited about turning 5 and I want to do everything I can to make it special even without her friends coming over for a party.
11/18 - 140.2 - Back to where I started this round, at least. I’m still sticking to my calories and workouts, so I’m optimistic that the number will continue to go down from here. I may not make my goal this round, but I’m not giving up.
Turkey Trot 5K - Walked/jogged 2 miles last night.
11/19 - 139.4 - Yay, progress! Happy to be down from last round.
11/20 - DNW - Today’s my daughter’s 5th birthday - stayed up late making a balloon garland, didn’t exercise since I had a cake to bake this morning and simply haven’t had time to step on the scale. Honestly, my weight doesn’t matter to me today - what matters is the joy on her face when she sees what we’ve done to make the day special for her and that she knows we love her. One of the reasons I want to lose weight and get in shape is to be the best mom I can for her and her little brother - but days like this remind me to keep the scale in perspective.
Turkey Trot 5K - Sorry, forgot this yesterday! Have been running/walking a 1.8 mile loop with the doggie at night.

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS: One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

@deepwoodslady
I had the same epiphany when my sister got terminal cancer. She was 6 years younger than me. I wasn’t enjoying teaching any more, and lots of my friends had taken the opportunity to take a deal and retire early, as my school was amalgamating with another local school. I investigated and was offered a such a great deal that it was a no brainier. I still worked part time as a subject moderator for a while, but eventually I no longer had time for that.
I have never looked back. My sister missed out on so much, so I’m living for both of us.6 -

I'm in! Thank you, @GrandmaJackie!
70 year old female...5'5" ...I used to be 5'7" but arthritis hit and I lost two inches, so now that two inches is squished around my waist like the billows of a big accordion... ...Oh, well. I'll just keep working on it.
We used to walk 5 miles a day. Recovered from back surgery then hip surgery!! Got back to walking then I sprained my ankle. UGH! I was down for 6 weeks with the ankle. Getting back to it slowly.

Day/Weight/Comment
11/13 - 132.8 - 9.87 miles walked yesterday, I incorporated the second run of C 2 5K, it was a repeat of Tuesdays, today should be a rest day, but I'd rather rest at the weekend so I'll do third training today – I feel OK, I can cope with two days on the trot ! (No pun intended!) 695 calories in credit.
11/14 – 132.8 - 9.82 miles walked yesterday including day 3 of C 2 5K so that's week 1 completed. Hips and knees are a little sore, but rest day today so I hope to manage my usual walk – weather permitting!! I did get out and do 5.5 miles first thing before the rain arrived, hope to be able to do another 3 or 4 later on if there is a dry window. 585 calories in credit.
11/15 – 133.4 – 10.46 miles walked yesterday, found my 5K route, yesterday afternoon walked it in 48 mins, so got a benchmark for it now. 525 calories in credit.
11/16 – 132.4 – 9.03 miles walked yesterday, incorporating day 1 of week 2 CP 2 5K, my 5K route took me 37 mins alternating running & walking. Supposed to be a rest day today, but as I feel fine I will continue with the next running day. 1192 calories in credit.
11/17 - 133 , 10.56 miles walked yesterday incorporating second run of week 2 of CP 2 5K completed, found the runs harder so will take the rest day today and just walk. Was also disappointed as seems I'm not as fast as first appeared!! Yesterday I downloaded a GPS APP to my phone to check the distance of the route I'd planned; turns out my fitbit lied to me; I'm 1K short, so I'll “find” that other 1K today on my walk by elongating the route a little!!

11/21 – 134,4 – I've been MIA !! MIL who suffers from Alzheimer's, had a wobbly on Tuesday caused initially by what was discovered as a urine infection, that is being treated, but the set back has made her increasingly unsteady on her feet, & lose the ability to get meals or drinks, 24/7 care is now required. We have arranged admission to a care home from next week, but in the mean time we, her family are giving her that care, however as 3 of the 4 of us still work it makes sense for me to provide as much as possible. That means my exercise has been practically nil, I will have a reprise over the weekend & my eating has not been anywhere near my norm. However, I will be back to normal Tuesday. Life happens!

Trend is downward which makes me believe my calorie allotment is accurate for now.
However, my anticipated sodium intake will be higher today due to my meal plan. Tomorrow will probably be an inflated number as a result.
SW: 144 (maintenance is 135-145)
CW: 144
GW: 135
My exercise overall is isolated to walking as I recover from a minor back injury. Frustrating, but a short term setback. Hopefully back in full swing in a few weeks.

11/13 181.0 I was afraid the Prednisone might have negated the good I did yesterday. So far it hasn't. Ate well on plan yesterday. I'm finding the more of just natural "whole foods" are a part of my day, the better off I am.
11/14 180.0 The extra movement from training for the Turkey Trot is really helping move me in the right direction and also to change my mindset. Thank you to those of you who are participating with me. I needed some camaraderie in this. Food choices were on point yesterday. Now to hold that trend for the weekend.
11/15 180.4 This must be sore muscles from yesterday’s push to 5K because I ate well within range. Probably didn’t drink enough water after though, so that could play in too. I was really hoping it would be into the 170s, but maybe tomorrow. Need to meal plan today and get to the grocery store and also get in another walk. I can’t tell you how much better I’m feeling now that I am active every day again. I think I’m working through (and past) some of the 2020 depression that made me into a couch potato.
11/16 180.8 I really think this must be the Prednisone I’m on. Food and exercise has been great. Might try to really push the water today and see if that has any effect (or will it just make the Prednisone make me hold even more water?) Who knows? Only 2 more days on this steroid pack, so hopefully the effects will get on out of here soon.
11/17 179.4 Yay! Finally back in the right direction. I’m pretty proud that I didn’t give up when the trend was going the right direction. I knew it was just my body being weird, either on its own or with the Prednisone. I kept doing what I know works, and it finally did! Now, can I stay here and end the round in the 170s? Time will tell.
11/18 178.8 Feels good to be making progress again. I’m still on the Prednisone for one more day, so I’ll call this a win! Holiday cooking is beginning though. I really want to limit my intake and control the damage. Feels so good to be making positive progress again after the craziness of 2020. I do NOT want to go back to old habits!
11/19 179.2 That’s ok. I think this is a normal blip. They happen for me pretty regularly. Yesterday was a pretty good day. I ate a little extra ham and swiss cheese when pulling Skinnytaste Chicken Cordon Bleu together for dinner, but I did extra exercise last night in hopes of working off that extra few calories. Ended up still in a decent deficit.
11/20 178.8 Better. And that’s after eating dinner at hubby’s favorite restaurant last night. I have figured out a meal there that doesn’t mess with my weight loss plans. Even their salads are high in calorie, so salmon tacos with a plain baked potato seems to do the trick for me. I just have them hold the creamy chipotle sauce and it seems to be just fine.
11/21 180.2 Well, this is disappointing. I did it to myself though, so gotta do better today. I hate these little ups and downs. I know all too well they are part of the process, but they still tick me off. I really should be ticked off at myself though, for giving into a craving late last night. Double whammy because of the calories and the time of day. Maybe I can work it off today and end up in the 170s for the round as I had hoped.
11/22
11/13 Got in two walks at just normal pace. I had one knee which was really bothering me, so I didn't push the pace.
11/14 Did 1.74 mi in 30:28 but I had the dog with me. She slows me down. Then got on my exercise bike last night before bed for 7.56 miles in 32:24.Hoping to look for a 5K path at a park this morning. Will be pushing the stroller, but I can still measure. I know how I can do it in my neighborhood, but it would be fun to go elsewhere for the real deal.
11/15 Did my first 5K in a while yesterday. (Sorry the pic I posted last night was so HUGE. Won't be doing that again.)
Figured out a nice route by the lake and really pushed it. My time was 51:22 with an average pace of 16:33, so I’m really pretty pleased with that. I was alone, so I was able to really get into it and it felt fantastic!
11/16 Got in 3.2 miles yesterday but wasn't worried about pace. Had Hubby and the Pup with me for most of if. Another beautiful fall morning here in Tennessee.
11/17 Did a fast-ish (but with a stroller) walk yesterday of 2.75 miles. It’s amazing how heavy a baby in a stroller can feel going up hills!
11/18 Only did a 1.2 mile walk at work yesterday. Probably needed a mild day though, as my knee was a bit sore.
11/19 Did a 1.52 mile walk at work, this time in high heel boots. Do I get double credit for that? Forgot my comfy shoes to change into. No time after work for walking, but got on the exercise bike late for 36 minutes. Sure can work up a sweat on that thing! I think I’m going to ask for a rowing machine for Christmas. I used to LOVE to row at the gym.
11/20 Did a 1.21 mile walk yesterday but then never got in another one. Meant to—it just didn’t happen. Can’t believe Thanksgiving is less than a week away now!
11/21 3.07 walked at the park (really didn’t realize how close to 3.1 I was or I’d have looped around the parking lot or something. But I was not working on speed as I had the baby with me. Weather forecast is looking rainy for Wednesday through next Sunday, so if I can break away, I may try to do a 5K today (alone) and then if I get a break in the weather, do one closer to Thanksgiving as well.
Total toward 100 mile goal walked by 12/31 (since 11/14)= 17.79

@deepwoodslady and @TerriRichardson112 I wish I had the nerve to do what you've done. Good for you both!!!
@musicsax Alzheimers really is a horrible thing. I'm so sorry your MIL is suffering from it. Glad she has the family support she needs though, even though I know it must be terribly hard on you. Hang in there. You are doing a wonderful thing.
@astroamy Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. Hope it's not Covid-related. Folks are getting it at record pace around here. Take care of yourself! Hope you feel better soon. On a positive note, look how close you are to Onederland!
@ZizzyBumble Congratulations on losing your 2020 weight gain! I'm still working on mine and will be for a while. Great job!
@antiderivative What amazing progress you've made! Look at your trends from your round history. That is awesome work!4 -
