@fdgrazie I love your positivity! And how you are really great at counting your successes! I could learn a lot from you!!
@mamabearangie 9 pounds???!! 9 pounds???!!! That is AMAZING!! If Intermittent fasting works for you, then by all means. Sometimes it really helps people stay within their calorie goals even if it is seen by some as a gimmick. I wind up doing IF quite inadvertently. I find I'm not hungry in the mornings so I typically don't eat until after lunch and I'm typically finished eating by 8pm. Sooo while not attempting IF, my eating habits coincide with it! All about what works for you
@Riddikulus89 I've been bouncing around the same few pounds this month too. It is frustrating. But when you say that you feel "calm and centered", that helps me to realize I should be feeling calm and centered too. Feeling that way is worth its weight in gold. Thanks for the reminder!
@KeriA That is so impressive that you are catching yourself before it becomes problematic. That is half the battle right there. Now that you are settling in to your new job, it will be so much easier to fit in good habits around it. The stress should subside and you'll be dropping weight left right and centre!
@pamiede Can I just say that you are amazing?!! First of all, congratulations on reaching your goal. Second of all, the fact that you are recovering from such an accident, currently in rehab and still focusing on your goals? That's downright inspiring.
@uyister Love that you can see your progress through measurements even when the scale doesn't budge!! Good luck on your exams!!
@Tarzan37 Working 2 jobs, 7 days a week is stressful, period. Being able to maintain during that? That's a pretty great accomplishment!!
@RYcare Looks like you're doing great with some consistent loss week after week! Great work!
@goal06082021 You've made a wonderful start!! Good for you!!
As for me:
45 year old female, 5' 4"
Highest Weight: 250 pounds
Starting Weight June 1, 2020: 242 pounds
Starting Weight November 1, 2020: 192 pounds
Lowest Weight Noted: 188 pounds
Current Weight: 190 pounds. ARGH!!
Goal Weight: 145 pounds
So incredibly frustrating to see 190. BUT I know I'm doing things right. I know it's not an accurate reflection of my week. I know I didn't eat at maintenance plus 7000 calories. I know I exercised. But it's still a mind *kitten*. So this is just little ole me sitting around waiting on my whoosh!! I realized this week that I only have 40 some pounds to lose, which is startling to me since I started off with almost 100 pounds to lose! So I have to keep reminding myself that weight loss is going to be slower now; that I have to continue to be kind to myself; and continue to meet my goals week after week even if I'm not getting positive reinforcement from the scale!
Happy Thanksgiving to all the American folks for tomorrow and I hope everyone has a wonderful week!!9 -
@IsETHome Thanksgiving is only 1 day. You don't have to restart on Dec 1, just make mindful choices the other days and enjoy your Thanksgiving meal with your family.5
-
I get a lot more enjoyment out of feeding people than I do of eating, I've found. As long as my food is good (which it is if I cook it) I'm fine. But I love to watch conversation stop and eyes close involuntarily when people are eating my cooking. So Thanksgiving is very satisfying for me in that way.
My Thanksgiving plans are largely on track, though when I got the turkey out of the fridge it was still frozen inside, so we are doing a rapider thaw in the sink in water. But I allow plenty of time in my schedule for this sort of thing, and as long as I get it done today I don't fall off schedule.
Otherwise, it's all good; Girlfriend's doing midterms, Boyfriend is up doing therapy, and I'll start lunch (hamburgers) soon.

@mamabearangie That's funny to hear IF is a villain, I've been doing it daily since 16th March 2020, I eat 2 meals a day between 12pm and 8 pm, The fasting is really just a way of controlling when you eat, it helped me restrict the number of calories I was eating, I did a lot of research and it has so many health benefits. I also run 40 minutes during fasting often and it doesn't affect my energy. In the beginning, it was hard to adjust, but after about 3 weeks it became routine. With the restricted calories, I'm eating I've lost 75.9 lbs in 8.5 months and still going. I also exercise, walking and started running about 3 months ago thanks to iloveeggnog on this thread! But I honestly think each lady must find what works for her something that's not too restrictive with the kind of food you can eat because you need to do this long term.6
-
@changeforeverlj On a day when the scale has gone in the wrong direction and I'm feeling gloomy, you have just given me the best damn NSV anyone on this journey could give. You are running because of you and your strength and your determination and, I hope, your joy! If I have played some small role in the inspiration for that? Well, that's just priceless. Thank you.6
-
@mamabearangie I have tried the intermittent fasting both ways, the 5:2 and the 16:8, I found I lost weight on both but the 16:8 was much easier to fit into my life. I felt with the 5:2 that my life was on hold on the fasting days. I'm back with the 16:8 at the moment. I find with that and if I don't snack I can pretty much eat what I like for those two meals. Some people go further and just eat one meal a day and have exact what they like.
Good luck!2 -
I just have to say I would be hurting way way more than I am now if I weighed what I weighed last year at this time. I'm not there yet, but I'm definitely on the way, and that is the biggest encouragement I can have; if I feel this much better with fifty pounds off me, how will I feel when I lose the eighty remaining pounds? That's really exciting.7

woo hoo! to all of us for being here. Gotta hang on to the good.
Today started out good - got to meet with my former quilt group, small numbers though they are at this time. It was a fairly nice day, for the Great White North!
Didn't end great - just found out they are coming down with the covid hammer again - pretty much lockdown. No more "gatherings" of any size, except 10 people out doors but in this weather pretty much all you can do is play a pick up game of hockey, or maybe gather around a fire pit if you have one. No going in and out of the house/building either, so I guess if you have to go the bathroom, you have to go home. You can go to a restaurant, but only with family members. There's a couple of other slight differences, but if you live alone, and don't have a family, like me, then it's very isolating - they say "People who live alone can have up to the same 2 non-household contacts for the duration of the restriction." Great, that does actually mean only 2 people, so I am not even allowed to visit my friend(s) if their spouse/family are there... but I can go shopping with all the people as long as the store is only at 25% capacity.
It will be very challenging not to stress/emotion eat these next three weeks (minimum... then we'll see, they say.)3 -
I have had a pretty good week so far. We will see what tomorrow's weigh in brings but have been keeping my calories low and exercise high this week to get ready for Thanksgiving. I guess you could call it a NSV to know how healthy I have eaten the last 2 day and have felt really good. Just proves that I can eat healthy, without any junk and excess, and feel good. These are the times I need to remember when I just want to eat everything, it isn't that I need to eat it, just that my brain is struggling with something else and it isn't about food.6
-
Happy Thanks Giving in the USA! Hope you get to spend time with your loved ones and to the ladies alone sending you extra love and hugs xoxo4
-
Hanging in there, not sure but I think I have probably gained a bit this week but that's okay. I'm one of those who will be spending Thanksgiving alone, but not really since I'm working 8 hours at the part time job for double pay. I'll be home by 2pm and have arranged to pick up a Thanksgiving meal from a local restaurant today to heat up and eat tomorrow when I get home. The traditional turkey with stuffing and mashed potatoes and a slice of pumpkin pie so that will be nice to look forward to after a long day on my feet at work! I'll take my pup for a long walk after that... and then play with my new kitten, Gus! Attaching a pic... he loves his little owl cat cave and sleeps in it every night.
Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! We will get through this and next year we will be able to gather with loved ones for the holidays again!

Week 4 Check-In
Age: 39 Height: 5'6"
Highest: 272.2 (August 2019)
10/1: 239.4
11/1: 238.0
11/4: 234.5 (-1.3lbs from last check in)
11/11: 234.1 (-0.4lb / 38.1lbs total)
11/18: 234.5 (+0.4 / 37.7 lbs total)
11/25: 232.3 (-2.2 / 39.9lbs total)
November Goal: 230lbs
(It is going to be close especially with Thanksgiving but I am THRILLED with the progress I have made this month).
Goals / Plans:
- Track all food honestly and stay within my calories 6 days (I am going to give myself a mindful, untracked day for the Holiday)
- Exercise at least 3 times a week
- Manage stress with cleaning or exercise.
After last week and with Thanksgiving I really put the effort in the last 2 days to ensure I stay on track coming to the end of the month. I need to keep that up the rest of the week to be able to go into December strong and move toward my goal quicker than I had been.6 -

I don't have really have much to share this week. I've been having a hard time with loneliness as everyone is preparing for Thanksgiving, and am strapping in for a rough holiday season (I live alone and am not visiting family this year). I'm still steadily losing weight, so there's that at least.
Hope you all have a great rest of your week and a happy Thanksgiving!8 -
@Tarzan37 - your kitten is so cute!
I’ve been really struggling keeping in my calories, and therefore not losing weight.
I have dabbled with Paul McKenna’s I Can Make You Thin system a few times before, and decided to go back to it to help curb my overeating and constant ‘hunger’. Have been doing it two days and feel so much better. I’ve casually tracked what I’ve eaten and am under my calorie target and the scales have finally moved. I’m 200.1lbs this morning - my lowest in over 10 years. Hoping to see the onederland soon!
Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating it!3 -
Weigh in Wednesday
Highest weight: 435 (11/1/18)--lost 50 lbs. by the end of 2018 but got off track and gained back almost 31 lbs.
SW: 415.8 (4/17/19)
10/31: 190.0
11/4: 190.6
11/11: 187.2
11/18: 186.4
11/25: 184.2
11/30:
Nov. GW: 184.8
GW: 160 (then reevaluate)
Weekly exercise goals:
- bike ride or exercise bike 5 times per week - 5/5
- strength training 2 times per week - 2/2
- chair yoga 4 times per week - 4/4
- steps onto aerobic step platform twice a day at least 3 times per week - 3/3
- bonus: 2 hikes
Well, I was able to meet my usual exercise goals this week so that felt good. Plus I got 2 hikes in. The 2nd one was my longest yet and at a state park I was afraid to try before because the trails there were rated as more difficult. A few sections were a little challenging, especially one hill that seemed to go on for-ev-er, but overall they were well within my abilities. I hit 250 pounds lost from my highest weight. I also finally moved from obese BMI to overweight BMI. It's probably been 35 years since I was just "overweight". I never thought I could make it this far. I still can't believe all the things I can do now that I couldn't before. I'm so thankful for my improved fitness.
My mom's biopsy has been scheduled. It's not until Dec. 7. She needs to have a Covid test a few days before the biopsy plus she has a couple other doctor appointments in the meantime. It looks like I'll be traveling a lot in the next few weeks since she hasn't felt good enough to drive herself to appointments for a while now. She also needs someone to stay overnight after the biopsy. Since my dad has macular degeneration and can't drive anymore and has severe hearing loss and can't hear enough to use the phone, I'll be staying at their place that night. My mom has hinted that she wants to cancel the biopsy because she hasn't been feeling well and doesn't think she can make it through it. The doctor was adamant that she needs the biopsy. I keep telling her it's best to have it just to know if it's cancer or not. (I'd rather know what I'm dealing with but I know not everyone feels that way. I just hate the uncertainty.) Hopefully she'll keep the appointment and hopefully it will be good news.
I probably won't meet my usual exercise goals over the next few weeks with all the traveling I'll be doing to my parents. I'll just do what I can and hopefully get back to my normal routine if/when things settle down with my parents.
Hope you all are doing well. Happy Thanksgiving to those that are celebrating it! And thank you for all the kind words and thoughts regarding my mom's health!7 -
@MuttiNM I'm so excited for you and cheering you on, going down to Overweight on the BMI scale is massive!! You are doing brilliantly under difficult circumstances. Those hikes must have been amazing! Good for your mom's Dr for being firm, your poor mom probably doesn't want to even know!! Keep strong over the next few weeks, I'm sure you will be pushed. Being in control of your food and exercise will help you cope xoxo

Good morning everyone, I decided to take a break from everything this month but wanted to pop in and say how grateful I am for this thread (thank you @RavenStCloud for posting each month) and each of you sharing your stories, struggles, heartaches, and triumphs. I am on pause in my journey but still connected - because of all of you. I wish you health and safety and look forward to rejoining you soon!8

Age: 61
Height: 5'2"
Highest: 350 (approx. 2013)
SW: 274 (Sept. 30/20)
GW: 180 (Mar. 31/22)
This month:
Oct. 29: 265.8, Daily Avg. Calories: 1860
Nov. 05: 263.0, : DAC:1737
Nov. 12: 259.0, DAC: 1939
Nov. 19: 257.0 DAC: 1685
Nov. 26: 256.1 DAC: 1761
November goals: Weight: 260. Other: To get daily avg. calorie total consistent to 1800 or less
Well, I am happy about both those goals, beating my weight loss goal by about 4 lbs, and my daily average calories only over 1800 once, for a monthly average of 1780. Now with new covid restrictions in place and the holidays coming up, I will have to ponder what I can realistically do for next month!

I hope all the Americans had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration yesterday! And I hope no one is beating themselves up for a little indulgence yesterday! Not my holiday so I likely shouldn't comment..but I know what it is like to beat myself up for one day's celebrations! In 2020, we have to take the celebrations where we can get them...one day doesn't break you. Today's a fresh, new day and we all can finish strong ahead of Christmas!!3

Weigh-in time!
Weigh Ins (lbs):

11/27: 250.6! I'm actually okay with this.

I hope everyone had a pleasant Thanksgiving, or a pleasant Thursday at the very least. My eating has been just way out of bounds this week, so I was not super looking forward to the weigh-in this morning, but hey! 0.2 lbs up from last week isn't disastrous, and it's not going to derail me. I'm speaking it into existence.
Two weeks of working out first thing in the morning and I can already feel a difference. It's getting easier every day to do the moves, and I think I'll be able to sustain this habit, I feel confident about that. My husband is going back to school starting in January, so maybe when he has to start getting up at the same time I do, he'll join me for my next six weeks of workouts. He doesn't need to lose any weight, really - he just wants to be a little more fit and active.2 -
@iloveeggnog I am used to this when I am losing. I go down a few pounds and then up a pound, then either go down again or jump around then go down. That is why I have an app on my phone for daily weight and I can see a graph of the overall trend. Keep doing the right thing and the trend will be with you. Thanks for your note on celebrations!
@fdgrazie a lot going on for you. It feels good once you are healed after not being yourself. I like you goal of healthy and steady.
@AlexandraFindsHerself I had a similar glitch with our new stove. I had preheated the oven at 350 then wanted to set it to 325 once I put the turkey in but forgot one button and the oven turned itself off. I checked on it and didn’t like how it was progressing so I turned it up again. We have a new oven with an option for convection so luckily that cooks the Turkey faster so we had the meal in good time.
@MaxCat1000 I am following all the State and local guidelines and a few of my own. Hang in there for yourself and others. I struggled when they closed the Y and I couldn’t go to Aquafit 3 days a week and I wish I could do that now that I am working again but I found a way to lose and get exercise after a while. You don’t have to lose as much as November just keep losing and getting fitter.
@Tarzan I think your Thanksgiving sounds just fine. A cat we had when in college had 3 kittens and I named my favorite Gus. This Gus is very cute and I love his owl house. Our twin almost grown twin kittens look a lot like our former Gus.
@KMC55 nice progress.
@JAC581 I hope your Thanksgiving was good. You are making great progress. We had a family zoom meeting because I was worried about my 93 year-old Mom who lives by herself in a retirement community.
@laurajewalker Nice that you are so close to Onderland.
@MuttiNM I love reading your exercise each check-in. Nice you got in your bonus hikes! What a milestone with weight loss. Congrats! I pray for good news for your Mom. Take care of yourself while you are with your parents.
@aliciap0116 Thanks for staying connected!
@goal06082021 Nice loss and there is still a few more days this month. Getting exercise each day is really great for you.

Monday & Tuesday I kept my calories low, tracked water intake, flights, steps and fit in short stints on the Gazelle and we cooked healthy meals at home. The scale started down.
Wednesday I tracked but got no stints on the Gazelle. I did cook ahead for Thanksgiving but we had take out which sabotaged my calorie deficit. The scale went up on Thursday morning as take out usually does the morning after take out (we don’t eat out anymore).
Thanksgiving my calories were higher although we only had 2 meals but I was very active cooking. This morning the scale started back down.
Today I logged any food I missed this week and breakfast today. I filled in my spreadsheet and then I did something I didn’t last time I started working full time. I recalculated my TDEE and adjusted it on my spreadsheet. The calculator also gave me my BMR so I adjusted that. It gave me a much lower number than the last time but I put in sedentary for my activity level. So if I use my old TDEE (maintenance calories) I stayed below this on Wednesday and Thursday but not with my new ones. It is the future that is important and I need to keep a deficit going forward.
1st Stage Goals:- Keep getting enough sleep (this is harder now but I am managing).
- Track water intake, steps and stairs to up activity level.
- Log calories in and continue to meal plan to make healthy meals at home. Keep calories at a deficit.
- Add in small stints on the Gazelle at lunch and breaks unless I take a walk or do strength training instead.
- Get calories down to my last low. 245.4
- Start a schedule that incorporates strength training and walks while continuing to cook dinners at home.
- Maintain a net loss in calories.
- Start to make progress with weight loss again.
My husband just said let’s go for a walk. There are even some blue skies! Have a great weekend all!

I've really struggled for the past two months and have been scared to weigh in. I know I've undone the progress I made over the summer and Fall. But tomorrow I'll weigh in and I'm committing to checking in here more and logging my food, as that was what worked for me a few months ago. I've got to find a better way to deal with the stress of this season (I'm a small business owner and make 2/3 of my revenue for the year in the six weeks between November and mid December. It's so exhausting!10

Unfortunately I was one of those US travelers.....although I masked up everywhere. I was away from home for 7 days (about 13 hour car ride each way - ugh, but I'm home) I was able to get in exercise on 5 of 7 days, but its only walking and not swimming as there was no pool, and the travel days which didn't allow for the exercise time. Returned home to have gained about 6 lbs (even with trying to watch it). I had fast food one time only. I'm hoping it was mostly stress related (not where I wanted to be, but more obligation) and salt retention.... So my DEC first weigh in will be next weekend. I did make it to the pool this am, and have another appointment tomorrow am. I will try to stay on task this week.5
