Goals this month: keep running, don’t get injured (my good Achilles’ tendon is being weird right now) and put in a good time for the Smiling Santa 5k.
I was wondering why so few people were posting, forgot the month had turned over! I need to catch up!3 -
@noblsheep - I would be terrified too and likely would find a treadmill somewhere instead of venturing out!
@mbaker566 - Your coach sounds great! Congratulations on getting into your Masters program!! You can do it! We all have your back and you can use us to whine to when it gets tough!
@skippygirlsmom - the low humidity is ridiculous. Seriously! We are supposed to be down to 8-9% later this week and that with the winds again puts us back in the red flag fire danger zone again.
Congratulations on your raffle win! That is so awesome!
@Teresa502 - Surf City is so much fun. The atmosphere and people are great and it runs right down PCH with a bit of diversion into the neighborhood that also results in a great view. It is close for me, my husband drops me off in the morning and picks me up afterwards. I am not sure how it will be in September though. It could be really hot but then I have run it in February when it has been really hot too so 🤷🏻♀️
@katharmonic - that workout sounds so intense, especially after a cold wet run! I bet you slept well!
@avidkeo - Hope your niggle is not serious. I have learned from you how important it is to listen to those niggles and take appropriate action or non-action!
The cakes look SO delicious! You are really good to your students!
@polskagirl01 - when my daughter was very small she had a terrible croup like cough when we were visiting the grandparents in December. The doctor there told us to take her outside in the cold to play as it would help to open up her lungs. I had never heard such thing and thought he was crazy but it worked. It also helped my dad's terrible asthma.
@HonuNui - mucking chicken coops - YUCK! They do produce SO much poop it is amazing!
@quilteryoyo - hoping for good news tomorrow!
1st run of the month - We walked to the trail and then ran what I could again. This felt so good and my pace reflects it with the running sections in the 10-11:30/mile pace! Stopped at the bathrooms to blow my nose and Hobbes met some lady cyclists who just loved up on him (happy puppy!). Then coming back we ran into some friends who had treats for him (even happier puppy!). He did get attacked about halfway by a small mop-ish dog whose owner wasn't paying attention and let go of its leash when it charged at Hobbes. We out ran it but I was really angry and yelled at the owner to pay attention to his damn dog. Oh and it is still pretty hot, 72F when we headed out and 80F when we got back home. Can't believe I am running in shorts in December. After reading about everyone's cold temps and snow I will not complain about the heat. It really didn't bother me today. Mostly the low humidity is a problem as it makes my mouth get so dry. Must take my hydration vest for the foreseeable future, even on short runs since I don't like using the drinking fountains.

@Avidkeo That cake look amazing. I think I gained 5 pounds just looking at it.
@HonuNui I'm sure cleaning out the chicken coop was a good workout. Not one I would want to do. I think the smell of chicken poop is the worst! Love fresh eggs though. They are so much better than the ones you buy in the store.
@rheddmobile Funny that you didn't realize it was December.
@shanaber Great run for you and Hobbes. Sorry about the irresponsible dog owner.2 -
@shanaber I was wondering if the humidity would affect fires.1

December Goal: 100 Miles
12/1: 6.08 miles
12/2: 6.21 miles
12.29/100 miles completed for November
1294.17/1000 miles for Run the Year Team Pavement
I am still way behind on the thread. The new job is so busy and longer hours so less time to be online. I did get up and run 6.2 miles this morning. It was still cold, but it was a pretty morning and it is a good way to start the day. Yesterday I was dressed just right. Today was a little less cold than yesterday and I got a little warm. But tomorrow is supposed to be colder. Really the hardest part though is just getting out the door.

@quilteryoyo I don't know, medically, what you are going through but I do send all my good thoughts and prayers your way. I've been through similar and waiting can be nerve racking. Hoping and praying for good news.2
-
@shanaber I do agree that the cold air seems to be good for us. Not when it's full of coal furnace smog of course... but yesterday's air quality seemed really good.2
-
7 km in the woods today. It was nice and quiet, and I saw a deer in the old military base. I've been out at about the same time lately and am also starting to notice the same people every day walking their dogs.3
-
I’m already behind on the thread.
Welcome to all of the newbies!
I’m dealing with a lot of unpleasantness currently, so my goal is to stick to my training plan as best I can. I already missed yesterday’s run.10 -
@leni1us I have an aortic root aneurysm that has grown to the point that surgery is recommended. It was scheduled to happen on 4 Nov, but due to the number of CoVID cases, it was postponed - is considered and elective surgery at this point. I had another scan on Tuesday. Am going to get the results today.
@marisap2010 So sorry to hear about your unpleasantness. I hope things get better for you soon.
Nice running @kgirlhart and @polskagirl01 ! It was 19°F when I took Tippy out this morning, but it didn't feel that cold. It was actually refreshing. Not sure I could have ran, but staying out for 5 minutes was nice. LOL2 -
5 miles on the treadmill this morning.

When my daughter started school she picked up EVERY. SINGLE. BUG. and every spring she would end up with bronchitis. Her paediatrician told me the best way to ease the fits of coughing that wouldn't stop and help her breathe was to stick her head in the freezer. Seriously. And yes, twice we got so desperate we did try it, and twice it worked! Another very random trick she taught me for when she had colds and stuff and would cough a lot at night was to cut an onion in half and put it on her bedside table. Weirdly, that seems to help a lot too, so now every time anybody in our family gets a cold they stick of onion in the mornings lol5 -

i am really happy with the coach. i reported my late run last night that was supposed to be tuesday and he acknowledged that even though i had missed tuesday, getting out last night at 930 after a full day of work and teaching 2 hours of yoga classes, was big.
i am definitely seeing a change in my attitude toward running. the truth is i'm not always going to want to run. and that's ok. what's important is still get outing there.
but we did. and we almost got hit by car. we were going thru the intersection before he even approached it and turned without a blinker. we had our noxgear, i had a reflective hat, pants and gloves on. my shirt was white reflecting the lights. we couldn't have been more visible.
it was slow. in workout mode, garmin also doesn't autopoause which makes me look really really slow. lol.
i love running near christmas. there are always lots of good lights. i don't love that there is required walking for warm ups and cool downs. it's cold. mid20's last night.
actually a couple of min before we had the run in with the car. it's a very well lit boulevard10 -

@mbaker566 Glad the car did NOT hit you, but sorry for the near miss. You guys look so cool, all lit up. Glad the coach acknowledged your dedication.3
-
@mbaker566 damn drivers! I have the noxgeat too and yeah, you can see that thing miles away, and both of you wearing it, no excuse!
Its 630am here, im still in bed, have been up to use the loo. Leg feels good, no niggles. Maybe a little tightness. So I'm going for my run later, and may go for a swim as well. My instinct is telling me this will continue for a while, twinges as I increase my distance that quickly settle. A so the time on my feet was probably the culprit as it really started when I was standing for 4hrs wearing 20lb of led. I am on shift all this week, so no led, it will be a good test to see what happens. So 5k today... When I get up7 -

@marisap2010 I hope your unpleasantness goes away soon.
@quilteryoyo I’m sure it’ll be all good news today, keep us posted
@eleanorhawkins Skip has asthma and one time she was having an mild attack and was coughing, it was the middle of the night, I called the ERs to check on wait time, though asthma they usually take right back. She was coughing and the nurse asked if that was her I said yes, she said since she’s coughing she’s breathing so take her outside (it was winter) for 15 minutes then have her come in and breathe in steam from a boiling pot of water. Do this 3 or 4 times, if she doesn’t start to get better bring her in. By the 2nd time she was already sounding better and by 4 she was falling back to sleep.
@mbaker566 people need to pay attention. There’s a house about 3 miles from me that I hear has a great display and they live the lights lit all night. I want to run over there but it’s on a street with no shoulder so I’ve been putting it off.
Our Fleet Feet set up a challenge for 2021, you have to run one half marathon a month, you get a medal each race and one sweatshirt. The medals are so cute, the February has a heart on it, etc. We are going to sign up. They hope as the year goes on they can have races in person and they would set up a course in the months they can.

December Goal: 100 Miles
12/1: 6.08 miles
12/2: 6.21 miles
12/3: 3.76 miles
16.05/100 miles completed for November
1297.93/1000 miles for Run the Year Team Pavement
I had to cut my run short today. I ran 3.76 miles and had to stop because my hip hurt. It felt slightly tender yesterday when I bumped against my husband's recliner, but not painful. As I started out this morning it was ok. Maybe a little niggly, but not painful. But as the run went on it started to hurt so I stopped running and walked home. It feels ok now when I am sitting, but it hurts when I walk. I am really anxious about it. I hope it is something that will just need rest. I don't really know if I should use ice or heat. I don't think it is swollen and it isn't red or hot. I never felt any pop or snap or anything like that. With my new job I don't have any time to take off to go to the doctor and I have a temporary insurance policy and I don't know if it will be very helpful. I am staying off of it as much as possible today, but I may have to see someone tomorrow if it isn't any better even though I can't afford it and Christmas is coming up. This year has really sucked.
2020 races:
11/7/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon11 -
@leni1us Welcome! C25k is a great start!
@quilteryoyo I hope you get good news. Cases are only climbing so who knows how long elective surgery waits could be.
@Avidkeo Yum!
@mbaker566 I love looking at the lights too. Last year I was still doing my long runs on Friday night after work, which was awesome for looking at the neighborhood light displays. Since I switched to Saturday morning I am really missing all the festive houses.3 -
@kgirlhart Hope your hip feels better with some rest. I would say use whatever feels good on it. Ice is my constant companion!1

Thanks @martaindale.0
