I am finally home from work. Just as I was wrapping up someone came to tell me I had a flat tire. It has really been a 2020 kind of day.12
-
@kgirlhart biggest biggest hugs! Hope the hip is nothing but bruising!0
-
After yesterdays worry about my calf, I woke this morning feeling great. No niggles at all. So went for my planned 5k, and it was great! At 4k I felt like I could have kept going for hours! It's been about 6hrs now and still nothing. So that suggests it is the standing around for hours that caused the issue. Will keep a close eye on it. Tomorrow calls for 6.5k run (omg i cant wait!) so will take it careful and stop at any signs of problems.

@kgirlhart So sorry you are having those hip issues. I hope rest is the key. AND sorry about the flat tire. Today just hasn't been your day. Hugs to you.
@Avidkeo Glad your calf is doing good and you got your 5K in. You are doing great with your rehab.
News: The aneurysm did grow since September, so the surgeon recommended we do the surgery sooner, rather than later. He still has to send an "appeal" to the hospital to be approved, but the surgery is currently scheduled for Wednesday, as in 9 December! For some reason it's scarier this time than it was when it was scheduled in November. Mom said the same thing. I guess because there's less than a week to "prepare" and maybe because we know it is likely to happen in less than a week. We didn't quit get this close the last time.
It's a little scary getting it done with all of the CoVID cases, but I'm hoping they are taking extra precautions themselves and getting it fixed needs to happen. It's just not ideal timing. But, is it ever?12 -
@mbaker566 I've had that exact thing happen, being almost hit by someone turning into an intersection, not seeing me despite the lights and reflective gear. It's astonishing how little attention people pay, or i guess how limited to just looking for other traffic and not anything else. Oh and I thought of you tonight too when someone yelled at me out their van window "I love your vest" while I was walking with my Noxgear and Stella with her LightHound. So funny.
My friends and I have also been talking about a run to tour christmas lights. They usually do one downtown but I don't think it will happen this year, so we may just run it on our own. @martaindale a Friday night long run looking at lights sounds so nice. And then it's over with! I may suggest that too.
@quilteryoyo wishing you the best for tomorrow's meeting with the doctor. We'll be thinking of you!
@kgirlhart so sorry about the hip! Hope it feels better. It probably is just bruised. I hear conflicting things but I like ice alternating with heat and that has been recommended by my PT in the past. And so sorry about the flat tire, it all seems to come at once sometimes.
@avidkeo good news that your calf felt better today and you had a good run! Hope tomorrow's goes well too!
@Kimbeers agreed - you are a beast for running with the stroller and then it having flat tires too.

This morning's run was on the treadmill at the gym before strength training. It was too early and I didn't want to deal with running outside in the dark so I just went with the treadmill. Despite the almost 30 min drive to the gym across town I made it in time to do 28 minutes before training started at 7. I wasn't quite at 3 miles yet so I finished up with a few more minutes afterward and ended up with 3.5 total.5 -
Hugs @quilteryoyo I get that it's scary with the suddenness of it. Good luck. I will be thinking of you!2
-
Thanks @Avidkeo, @quilteryoyo and @katharmonic. I am trying to be positive. I have been alternating heat and ice so I guess that's what I will continue to do.
@quilteryoyo Sending hugs and prayers. There is never a good time for surgery, but at least you can get it out of the way.3 -
@quilteryoyo will be thinking about you and praying for a good outcome!2
-
@quilteryoyo good luck on your procedure
Fingers cross for a speedy recovery2 -
@mbaker566 Sorry about the car that nearly hit you. Some drivers are just hazards. Nearly got hit a couple of days ago too crossing the road. Dude was left turning and probably had no idea how to drive a van. I had to do a side step jump thing to get out of the way of his rear end.
@quilteryoyo Will be chucking some positive mental energy in your general direction.
@kgirlhart Hugs! Hope your hip feels better soon. Some days are just... days.4 -
December Goal Do something every day....
12/1 2.50
12/2 3.05 and deep mucked the chicken coop
12/3 1.35
Today was supposed to be snorkel day, but seas were way too rough, so I came home and did a short treadmill to keep streak going. Here is a pic from Monday's outing-Parrotfish:
...sorry, spoiler doesn't seem to be working....
Total 6.90
Hugs to @kgirlhart @marisap2010 and @quilteryoyo
@Kimbeers imagine how easy the next stroller run is going to be with air in the tires!

@quilteryoyo I always find it scary when I'm mentally prepared for something and then something out of my control changes my plans, so yes, totally get it. However, you're in the best of hands, you can get it sorted as soon as possible rather than being stuck in 'limbo' so to speak waiting to know what's going to happen, and they are bound to be taking very extreme precautions. In some ways, I think in those situations we're safer now than in a 'normal¡ year. Hugs and prayers for a speedy recovery!
2 -
@quilteryoyo that sounds like good news, and I'm glad you'll hopefully be able to get this taken care of and begin your recovery.2
-
@quilteryoyo You’ll be in my thoughts as you go for your procedure next week.
@mbaker566 I’m glad the car didn’t hit you! So many drivers just don’t pay attention.2 -
04/12 2.68 miles
2.68 of 30 miles
Its turned cold here too. Snow showers yesterday and strong winds today.
@Avidkeo - The cakes look delicious, I don't have a sweet too but bought some french fancies to have last night.
@quilteryoyo - Getting a date makes it real and daunting but you will come through fine!2 -
@quilteryoyo I was off a day and posted right when you did so I missed your news that you had seen the doctor. Sending all the good vibes to you as you prepare for the surgery and recovery. I'm sure after the delay the suddenness of it is unsettling but you've done a great job of preparing yourself physically and it will be a relief to have it done. You've got this!2
-
Nice picture @HonuNui . Sorry you had to do a treadmill run instead of snorkeling.
Thanks everyone! You're support means a lot! The nurse yesterday said I probably should just walk, no running, until the surgery. So, my total running mileage for December is 2.5 miles! I do hope to get in 10,000 steps until Wednesday. Then, we'll see. I'm sure I won't be doing much for the first couple of weeks.

I'll be back later to catch up, but I wanted to post this. Our local Fleet Feet is having a Monthly Half Marathon Challenge. You will get 1 sweatshirt and 12 medals (one for each month), they are virtual at least for now, everything can be shipped in the United States. It's $150.00 for registration, the medals are pretty cool.

@quilteryoyo just think a week from today it'll be done and you'll be on the way to recovery. It is scary when it's like okay we are doing this NOW, with the holidays and all coming up it's good to get it done.

Morning!
Millions of posts behind!
Update: My brother's wife got covid! So indy is OFF!
Not over, just postponed. So @polskagirl01 when you said something like, "maybe consider this a sign of xyz," Yeah. I can overcome a lot of things. I even enjoy "wrassling," a lot of things just to see ( @Tramboman ) because I usually do come out on top (this is the result of time and effort and prayer and belief). However, Covid, I will not step up to. Hell. No.
So where does that leave us?
Well. It leaves me with the gift of time to keep going and getting stronger. There are a lot of races and options where I can still see my brother later and I can do a 50 miler at home self-supported if I choose to, for NYE.
I already had the shirts made for Indy, but if i do the Gnaw Bone in May, or if I do the Indiana Trail 100 in October, the shirts will still be good. Right?
As for the fuel I bought - I was going to use it either way - I run A LOT of miles.
As for the shoes - same. I was going to use them anyway/ already have been.
It's not a loss. It's just a delay.
My brother actually messaged yesterday while I was with my daughter at the neurologist and asked, "So what do you want to do?" And I said, "Ummmmmm I want you to take care of you and your wife. Health is priority 1."
So that's the update. I plan to keep training the same. There are still lots of opportunities to run, even if it doesn't turn out like we thought.12 -

Honestly while I’m concerned for your bro and his wife, and sorry you had to be disappointed right now, I’m relieved you won’t be running unfamiliar terrain in Indiana at the end of December. It can get bitter up there! Maybe you will be able to do it a little later when the weather is at its best.4 -

@skippygirlsmom this sounds cool and would be a great motivator to keep up the long runs. I am considering doing it but where is the info about shipping? I only saw something about medals can be picked up the following month.
@Camaramandy648 "It's not a loss. It's just a delay" is totally right and the part about time to get stronger. Keep training and you know you'll conquer some awesome challenges ahead!

Unexpected Friday long run! My run coach does a Friday long run at 9 am and I usually can't make that, but work is a little more flexible right now with the semester ending. I am struggling to motivate myself to get out there on weekdays so when I heard a couple of friends were planning to go I decided I would get it done with them. My friends were only planning 4-5 miles and I didn't think I had it in me to do more than that today either, but in the back of my head I kept thinking just do your long run today because I have a class to get to tomorrow and won't have time (without starting very early).
I made no promises about what distance I would do as we started. We went out 2 miles and my friend was turning back so I went with her. We were doing a good pace - finishing a 10:07 fourth mile, which was excellent for us especially considering we were talking the whole time. I was still thinking I should just continue on because now I'm already halfway to a long run, I don't want to not do one this weekend. But I didn't say anything. When we got back to the parking lot and were talking at the cars, she just looked at me and said "you're going back out there, aren't you." Ha, she could see the wheels turning in my head. I said ugh, yes, I don't really want to but I do want it done. And so I headed back out the canal trail. I ended up meeting back up with the coach and another runner and joined them so that I was able to get a little over 90 minutes, which is the minimum of what coach considers a long run. I feel very satisfied to have that done. It felt good (brand new shoes, so cushiony) and I was very happy with the average pace of 10:25 for the whole 9 miles. But now I'm exhausted and trying to gather energy to go into work for a while. At least I can just do a short run tomorrow!

18.7/100 Miles
12/1: 5.1 Miles
12/3: 3.6 miles
12/4: 10 miles
Did a little switcheroo on my runs this week to keep me from having to do my long run the day after a 7+ miles workout run. So, 10 miles today. It was about 40F and sunny and I feel like I'm finally really getting a handle on what to wear in cold temps. It usually takes a couple of weeks to remember what that's like since 90% of the year is short and sports bra/tank. Pretty predictable.
The run felt good. Training up the distance has been way easier this year than last. It's like my body remembers doing it before and is fighting it less this time.

@rheddmobile @katharmonic YESSS it will be all right! Now I can just focus on time and preparation and training. It's allllll gonna be just fine. And. I can still run! That's not gone! And hopefully my brother and his wife will get through this just fine!5

OMG - is it December already?!
Give me notice of your revised 100 @Camaramandy648 and I may decide on a trip state-side if I can. Don't count me in as part of the crew however I've never been in Indiana.
Finally I got to European Pastor Vincent medals after a delay for the customs charges. @Camaramandy648 do you have the addresses of my European friends to forward them on? @polskagirl01 @eleanorhawkins all the EU medals were sent to me to save the cost of multiple trans-atlantic shipments and I will forward these on to you.
You will always be part of us @PastorVincent ❤️10 -
@quilteryoyo . Sending good thoughts and prayers your way. Although it may be a bit scary, the hospital will be overly cautious and protective of your health BECAUSE of COVID. The surgery will be in your rearview mirror next Thursday (12/10). Then it will be all about healing.4
-
@Camaramandy648 Good call, although I'm sure you're disappointed. I'm looking forward to following your journey and hearing all about how you get this done, when the time comes! And I hope your sister in law has a mild case and recovers quickly.
I went for a short run in the forest and kept the pace easy, also hiked a little bit when I felt like it. I had forgotten I am signed up for a "race" on Sunday. They will mark the [5k trail] course and provide toilets, bag deposit and emergency medical services, and we have a 3 hour window to go time ourselves running it. It's a course I've done 20-something times, so it is a great opportunity to see where I'm at fitness-wise. I guess doing it this way doesn't count as a "gathering". But of course I still keep thinking something's going to happen to cancel it at the last minute, which might be why I had forgotten all about it.
December Goal - 100 Miles
"40 weeks of 40" - 5 Weeks DONE! /47 weeks left to complete the challenge6 -

This is great news! Thank you for sending them our way.2 -
@Tramboman Hahaha at the "angry robin" comment. It must be related to me and hates the cold.
@Camaramandy648 I hope your sister in law is okay. Sounds like you have a good plan until you can do it. I agree, with all of these things happening, I think it's a sign that the time wasn't right, but it will be one day.
Awesome run @katharmonic !
@polskagirl01 Good luck on your 5K Sunday!
Got the official word a little after 5pm today that the hospital did accept the appeal and I can have the surgery on Wednesday. I have pre-op stuff on Monday. Today, I am not meeting my 10,000 step goal. I had to do some shopping and had an eye doctor appointment. You would think I would have walked more, but I don't think Garmin counts my steps when I'm pushing a shopping cart.8
