Ruby, yes, my graph is on paper. I have to work with Excel quite a bit at work, and it's my worst enemy, so I prefer paper when I can do that!
Nice to meet everyone. I'm 64 and live in central Texas. I have one married daughter and 2 amazingly precious granddaughters, ages 4 and almost 7. I have two adult sons. One was my first child, and he is sadly profoundly handicapped. He is 43 and at this point lives in a residential facility. I found out this week he is COVID positive, but thankfully it seems he is pretty much asymptomatic. My other son I adopted when I lived in Scotland and he was 6 years old. He's 38 now and doing really well. He lives in Austin and is still single.
I taught high school English for years, left teaching to start an educational publishing company, sold the company, and after 20 years out of the classroom found myself back in it. This is my third year teaching at a juvenile detention center. There is never a dull moment. We've been back in person since school started in August (The kids are locked up, so they can't bring COVID in . . . it's the rest of us that have to be very careful). I have fantasies of writing a pilot script based on experiences there, but I'm not thinking about it until next summer. Ruby, I totally get your feelings about the job. Ironically, teaching in a prison-like situation has been really freeing. Almost none of the things that really bothered me when I taught in a public high school are problems there (pushy parents, ridiculous paperwork load, things like lunch and bus duty, departmental politics, grading endless stacks of papers), and I know for sure no one is getting in with a weapon. And my students lap up love from adults (when they aren't throwing desks).
Oh, I'm married to a wonderful guy. 2nd husband, but we've been married 28 years.
As far as weight, I was also always very slender. At age 45, BAM! Not slender any more. So it's been 19 years since I've looked like I want to look. I even did a couple of triathlons without losing any weight. Just this summer, I quit drinking alcohol, which was a huge life change for me, and along with it, my eating habits just seemed to get much healthier. I've lost 31 lbs. but have about 40 to go to be "just right" in my eyes. That number may change once I see where my body lands after all these years. I'm really glad Ruby started this forum because it will be another tool in my toolbox on this journey. I'm actually grateful to have gotten sober and lost a good amount of weight during this pandemic because things could easily have gone a very different direction.8 -

I'd like to join this challenge though I only have about 12lbs. to lose by March, 2021. I'm a retired high school teacher, 71 years old and have been on MFP since 2012. I lost about 49lbs and in maintenance for about 5 years holding steady at 130lbs. I was at the gym 3Xs per week when the pandemic hit so there went the gym. And the pounds started slowly adding back on, mostly because I'm eating too much. I'm at the 142lb mark and need to dial it back but want to eat ALL the food. No bueno. I "exercise" the equivalent of about 20-25K steps per day but it's not the same as the gym and I'm having problems with arthritis in my right knee. Gee, getting old is sure fun. Anyhow, those extra 12lbs must go. So, yay to the challenge! I'm in.
PS: Totally get the teacher stress. Been there, done that -- so happy to be free of it. LOL.7 -
I am half way there this app is a big help, I use a juicer to make fresh veg and fruit juice every day. This is a healthy way to be "full" on goodness instead of junk. I quit drinking soda 2 mos ago.8

How is this gonna go is everyone posting progress every SAT I think I will post weight 1st of every month for accountability I was 143lb on Saturday and 🤭oops I am at 145lb this morning went a bit too heavy on the carbs late last night 🙄,anyway it is what it is so I take it as my starting point and please can you guys post some of the meals you are eating need some ideas,can't wait to start this journey with your support😁5

@tazzb75 I agree. Please post meal ideas. I was seeing a dietitian before Covid Hell broke loose, and she gave me some great tips I am happy to share. I'll take a photo of her snack list and post it (when I find it in a pile of papers!). She did not suggest we give up all carbs, but to read the labels. If bread, crackers, etc says "enriched" on the ingredients label, steer clear of it. I personally like Dave's Killer bread, thin sliced. It is full of whole grain yumminess. A typical breakfast for me is 1 slice of this bread, toasted, spread with avocado instead of butter and an over easy egg cooked in a no cal spray and topped with a tomato slice. It is a lovely open faced sandwich. I alternate between this and oatmeal most days.
Today's inspiration: Being healthy and in shape enough to play with my 2 and 4 year old granddaughters without getting worn out!8 -
@annliz23 i am jealous ... only one standard poodle. Question ... how challenging was it to learn how to groom them? So far ,(Abby is 8 mo old) i have taken her to groomer. She gets just a basic trim with clean face and feet and nails done. Would be great tobsave the $85 every 6 weeks!!3

Morning all!!!
I did a Monday weigh in and was up 0.8. I usually have a little weekend creep up so I’m not upset with this. CW = 172.8
I have started planning my week and trying to shift the mindset. I am about to do an upper body workout bc who doesn’t want sexy shoulders and back?!?!
I made a pot of Tuscan White Bean Soup yesterday. It is delicious and low cal. If you want the recipe, DM me. This will be dinner tonight... maybe lunch

I learned from you tube videos not difficult but depends on the cut you want to do, the bit they dont like is when I do their feet.

Interesting thought: I knew a lady who was thin and she was in her 70s. She played tennis each day. She told me that she lost over 100 pounds eating only lean cuisines (3 times a day). I questioned her and said "wow that's a lot of salt intake." She shrugged and said, well it works for her, she feels healthy and has no issue with salt. I couldn't eat Lean Cuisines each day personally, But the takeaway is she knew exactly how many calories she was eating each day.
I need to get better at judging and logging the calories before I eat. Instead of eating and then finding out my chicken dijon rolled was 730 calories.
Keep your ideas coming! All are welcome - we have different goals but all want to be a healthy weight for our body type/height/etc.4 -

Tazzb75, I like the idea of posting each month. I’ll post “amount lost this month” at the beginning of the month. I’m just posting how much lost instead of my weight. That’s my comfort zone.6

Wow! Losing 30 pounds by March seems ambitious (if you mean March 1st), but more power to you if you can do it.
I set a goal to lose 100 lb in one year, which is roughly 2 lb per week. I started at 330 pounds on July 10th, and my current weight is ~286 pounds, so 44 pounds lost in 21.5 weeks.
I think it would be possible for me to lose 30 pounds by end of March, as that's 16 weeks away -- maybe 20 pounds by March 1st.
But it's good to set challenging goals as long as you recognize that getting almost there is not a failure but an enormous success.

I'm 37 years old, married, we have a 2 year old. My goal for this challenge is to lose 15-20 lbs. 2020 starting weight was 225. I'll plan for Saturday weigh ins.

Well, I'd say it has something to do with the fact that I started out with a LOT to lose!
Seriously though, I don't expect to be able to continue at that pace as I get closer to my goal. The less you have to lose, the slower it is to lose.
Most days I am able to stay under my calorie allowance. My best progress was weeks ago when I was able to swim in an outdoor pool. Swimming is my favorite activity, that's not an option now. So I ride a recumbent exercise bike here at home. I try to get in at least 30 minutes a day, but strive for 60 minutes (in 2 rides), going at a good aerobic pace. Diet wise, I avoid high glycemic foods, because in order to burn body fat (both during exercise and after) you need your blood sugar to be a little low in order to trigger your body to metabolize that fat.

Thanks! 5 years of maintenance and it only took me 10 months to gain 12lbs. That's just scary.
@jan110144 Gyms are open here too but as you said too risky. The creep is real and sad.

@RubyRed427 i find that pre-logging my day is a crucial part of successful weight loss for me.. I do it every morning as I drink my first cup of coffee ... logging both food and planned exercise.
Most days that keeps me on track (and I don't reach dinner with only 150 calories left for the day 🙂). Occasionally, I have to make adjustments at the end of the day, but most days not.
@frankwbrown congrats on your weight loss to date! I doubt that I will make 30 pounds by March, but that's ok. I will be MUCH closer to where I want to be.

I would also like to join this forum. For now, I am more or less targeting 5 lbs by 31 Dec, which in my case it always have been difficult. My diet is still OK as I cook and mostly eat healthy. I need some motivation to exercise.I will log my diet from today. hopefully i will stick to this.

Thank you. Losing 2 lb/week is at the upper end of what I've read as recommended: 1-2 pounds per week. I chose it because 1) I'm impatient and 2) some years ago, I was able to lose 2-2.5 lb/week while swimming an hour a day and dieting sensibly.
I do a mix of pre-logging and post-logging my food consumption. Logging really makes one so much more aware of one's calories consumed vs calories burned. Keeps me toeing the line.
P.S. Incidentally, I think viewing weight loss as a percentage of current weight would better convey how much of an accomplishment it is. Losing 2 lb is -0.67% when you're 300 lb, -1.0% when you're 200 lb, -1.33% when you're 150 lb, etc.
Afterthought: And, at any weight, it matters how much of it is fat. i.e. what's one's body fat %?2 -

I start my weight loss journey again ,
i lost around 14 kg in 2018 but gain all my those weight again even 10 extra kg i put on this year no motivation only eting too much food without thinking about it.
Now i start again and my goal is to loos 30 kgs atlest in next 6 months .
